- robbh66, on 10/12/2007, -18/+90What an absolute joke. The olympics are about athleticism. At least in archery you have to have tremendous aim and some strength. Videogames require a twitch reflex. If i had to choose between competitive video games and curling, i'd honestly pick curling.
Never_gonna_happen. - MatttK, on 10/12/2007, -4/+53[obligatory]How about Wii Tennis?[/obligatory]
- soogy, on 10/12/2007, -10/+54Wow, I agree, this is sad. You want an Olympic medal for sitting in front of a computer screen, playing Counter-Strike? It's a video game. If you want to win a competition for that, there's already CPL, WCG, and MANY others.
The Olympic Games are for physical sports. - MatttK, on 10/12/2007, -2/+29dol3n, nobody is saying video games can't be extremely challenging but they just don't belong in the olympics. Heck, you've got to be pretty talented to be a master chef but I don't believe there is an olympic cooking contest either.
- twinklyJesus, on 10/12/2007, -8/+34Next: Olympic speed-reading!!!
- FuzzyCat, on 10/12/2007, -4/+28
This is ***** lame. To compete in the Olympics you need to be an athelete. Even wanking should be an Olympic sport before this sort of lame ass *****. - jerrygofixit, on 10/12/2007, -4/+28Stupidest thing ever. They don't even have olympic chess let alone something that completely doesn't require any tangible effort.
- twinklyJesus, on 10/12/2007, -5/+29You truly have to have exteme eye-hand coordination to put 3 L's in baseball. o_0
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22Hacks would be the new steroids.
- NeonDemon, on 10/12/2007, -4/+23World cyber games, CPL, Quakecon. we dont need the olympics
- bloodylip, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21You'll get pwned like a nub by the Koreans.
- twinklyJesus, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21Endurance wanking??? Marathon? First to the finish? hmmmm.
Testicles of Fire... - tutivlahos, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17They didnt have bobsled in Jamaica.
- Virak, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19Agreed. While video games aren't just twitch games and can require a lot of skill, that doesn't change the fact that video games don't require much physical effort, and thus aren't really suited to the olympics.
And don't diss curling. - ahhell, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17The "100 Metre Wank".
I'm suprised the porn industry hasn't thought that up yet. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12I've already purchased tickets for the Dorito-Eating Floor Event and Climb-the-Stairs-Out-Of-Parents-Basement 100m.
- cyrix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Government launches Counter Strike wall hack investigation. Player fatal1ty was asked to appear before the panel and had this to say: I never knowingly used wall hacks. I just got some "files" from Canseco, I didn't know that there was wall hacks in those files, if there were any at all.
- soogy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Can you imagine this at the Olympics? http://pwned.nl/
- kaidovak, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15If they don't have paintball, they shouldn't have games (especially FPS). Paintball takes reflexes as well as physical training, while all gaming takes is knowing the tricks to give you an edge.
- retral, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13I agree. Even though I love gaming; this is just ridiculous.
- furto, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13well the origin of the olympics in athens wouldnt have had 'video games'! athens was about blood sweat and tears, travelling for weeks on end just to get to the games to compete for your land, how demeaning it would be to put video games in the olympics!!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11I'm a hardcore lazy ass, and even I don't think this is a good idea.
- XenophobicAlien, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12What an absolute joke. I love video and computer games but to have it as an Olympic sport? I think I would be too embarrassed to even wear the medal if I won it.. This is sad beyoond belief.
- cleverhanz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Good point, if we are going to let games (as opposed to sports) in, we should start with the ones that everyone in the world plays, the ones that have been around for hundreds of years. Not that we should, but if we did.
- gbresnahan2, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Er, this is exactly the goal of the ESWC (Electronic Sports World Cup) and I find it a more fitting venue than the Olympics. Gamers can play games like Quake, CounterStrike, and Trackmania Nations
http://www.esworldcup.com/2006/ - Mesach, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Why Yes Jim, I have been practicing since i was about 13, Its really strenuous, I get up at 6:00 AM and start training. Sometimes I dont stop doing reps until I have to leave for school, other times I get to take off in study hall and practice...
Hey why won't you shake my hand? - Lobster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I am in training for 2012 - here is a list of events for the Spiritual Olympics
http://pages.britishlibrary.net/lobster/so/events.htm - TreyMen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7How did they come up with the summer games instead of winter?
- Philodox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I love video games as much as the next guy, but there is no way that video games should be allowed in the olympics. Every olympic event requires some degree of physical training whereas video games most definitely do not. Can you imagine trying to watch a round of UT2003 or CS: S on TV?
- rompom7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7WCG, CPL, WEG, ESWC, GGL, CEVO, CAL, NGL, CSA, w2z, PNY CSA, EverLAN, DigitalLife, NewEgg LANfest, ACON5, AmeriCup, ESL, Clanbase... The list goes on.
Although, if you classify poker or billiards as a sport, you should classify gaming.
I support the decision to make competitive gaming bigger, but I don't think we are ready for the Olympic games. - catoutfit, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8They're trying to put Snooker and Darts in the olympics, Darts really isn't that athletic.
and also there's shooting events, they're probably about as skillful as gaming.
that all said..i think all the above mentioned sports should never be in the olympics - mr.hostility, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Can you imagine those "athletes"?
It makes me think of the part in Kingpin when Ishmael says it's awesome to be in the presence of such great athletes, and it's a bunch of fat, grubby losers. - Sukino, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Paintball is not a bad idea, but it's too military for Olympics that (are supposed to) promote world cooperation and peace.
- toxicredm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Do you keep your games in your freezer?
- jer2eydevil88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Are those events before or after the hot dog eating contest?
- sych0, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6What an insult to actual olympians
- 2gunnZ, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Whats next Olympic lawn darts? If they let video games into the Olympics then I think that most of the world will lose a lot of respect for the Olympics.
- wilf_brim, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8You CANNOT be serious!!
This has got to be one of the dumbest ideas I have heard in a long time. If they put this crap up on the CNN site they clearly have too many reporters with too much time on their hands. - jamesey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Cyberathlete is an oxymoron
- walugi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Because there is such hatred against this idea let's coin a new saying.
"I hate this idea more than the French hate Lance Armstrong"
tada! - leprasmurf, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I've been training for this moment for my whole life. This just means my hard work will really pay off. Every day waking up early to practice for a competition like the Olympics....really brings a tear to my eye
Ok I'm done now:-) - Kimi3013, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5The Olympics need 20/20 Cricket in before anything else. Get Base/Softball back too.
- SilentPurity, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5And I thought it was stupid to have Frisbee in the Olympics....
- Murdats, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4yes the land of the free and the good education
did the spell check explode when you clicked it? - VigilanteP, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4You figure skate and play DDR... someones a little fruity.
- dmoney06, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4never.
- andrewhamann, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I'm digging this so as many people as possible can see just how stupid an idea this is...
- BigBlack, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I think it would be great to actually get a gold medal in BF2...
get it? - mr.hostility, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5They aren't curbing internet addiction, they are keeping the people down, and the real information away from them.
- B0jangles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Games should not be in the Olympic Games, right.
The last thing you want is to give nerds the recognition they fantasise about. Computer games are great but you shouldn't allow those who constantly play them to be recognised as athletes. -
