- chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -3/+771) you can change the speed (he does say that)
2) he gives you the url
3) you're a muppet
4) 2 and 3. - Napalm05, on 11/09/2007, -0/+36Drivers for windows can be found here
http://www.wiili.org/forum/download-windows-driver-here-t294.html - ThrasherC, on 10/12/2007, -2/+38Yes, I'm sure that purely because Wii Processor < PC Processor an emulator will be out in the next week or so.
You're retarded. - vhold, on 10/12/2007, -0/+32#4: The pitch/roll mechanisms don't require the sensor bar. They haven't figured out how to use the positional capabilities yet.
- drlha, on 10/12/2007, -1/+30macpro: You know the "sensor bar" doesn't have any sensors in it right? Just some IR LEDs.
- incognit0, on 10/12/2007, -6/+34Nevermind, you changed your original comment to sound like less of a dumbass. Digg me down.
- h2d2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23Hmmm... the camcorder is running out of battery juice. That's something else.
- whiteguysamurai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21It's like a gyromouse, only not the same quality.
- potterboy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17Gamecube emulation is barely possible, think again. EDIT: ThrasherC beat me to it.
- loginname, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15I believe it's real because I tried it last night and it worked.
I couldn't get the mouse script to work for some reason, but the wiimote test definitely connected and interacted with the script. It registered all of the XYZ values when I tilted or moved the remote. You should see the values when you shake the remote, they go nuts!
The neat part is that when you hold down the "shift" key, it triggers the rumble. But the cool thing is that it triggers it at full power! That little remote has a heck of a rumble motor in there.
You should try it before you say it's fake! - Klarth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Bluetooth. IR functions aren't working yet.
- usbserial, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10I believe it's real for the following reasons:
1) the lights on the wiimote are blinking rapidly, denoting a link.
2) when he tilts the wiimote up/down left/right you notice the cursor moving across the screen quite linearly. This is difficult to do with a mouse.
3) at the beginning he used the touch pad on the laptop. it doesn't necessarily mean there is no other mouse, but it means there isn't necessarily a mouse off-screen.
4) there are drivers online you can download - usbserial, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14....what are you talking about?
- sdblad, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9why is it so hard to believe it is real?
i worked on a similar project for my senior design class (search "ece477 powerglove mouse" on youtube). Its difficult for accelerometers to detect horizontal and vertical movement because most of the time you arent creating any significant acceleration in the direction you are moving. The sensivitiy of accelerometers is rated in the number of g's it measures in the 3D plane. How much is a g? 9.8 m/s^2. The accelerometer we used was a freescale 3-axis accelerometer with an 800 mv/g sensivity on its most sensitive axis (the z-axis in our case). Now, when moving a mouse... how quickly are you moving your hand? Hardly at all, and that is why its hard to detect movements without tilt. The reason accelerometers are so great with tilt is because of our old friend gravity. The accelerometer is always detecting gravity so any tilt in any of its axes results in a pretty accurate measurement.
We had the same problem in our project and had to resort to tilt to move the mouse on the screen. We werent smart enough to think of the sensor bar + accelerometer combo. - tadda, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7...and your rationale for that is... what?
Since a PC driver for the Wii mote has been hacked full emulation is due anytime?
No. Try again. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Of course it works, it's bluetooth.
- 98acura, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7If Nintendo wants to attract gamers, they will EMBRACE this... Don't block the functionality in new wiimotes..
- NSMike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Why does anyone do anything? Some people just like to figure ***** out. Get off their case. It's called a "challenge," and for a lot of people it's a damn good motivator. You should try it sometime.
- stolenpass, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Someone posted in a previous reply a thread on Wiili.org. If you're that interested in disecting why it's fake maybe you should read it.
http://www.wiili.org/forum/download-windows-driver-here-t294.html - NSMike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5That's a fallacious argument. You can logically reason out a lot of absurdities. For example, (note: this is not mine originally. Ionesco was a genius) my cat is dead. Socrates is dead. Therefore, my cat is Socrates. How's that for logic?
You could also reason out that if you have a gun, and guns kill people, you should go out and kill someone. He was indicating that because you may not have a Wiimote and/or a bluetooth adapter and you cannot test this yourself or understand the value in it, you're going sour grapes on us. He wasn't saying that because you have a bluetooth adapter and a Wiimote that you SHOULD do this. He was pointing out that because you can't, you fail to see a use for it. - lava, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I don't think it would be a bad idea for Nintendo to release software to make the wiimote work with a PC. If they did that I would love them forever.
- loginname, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7"Even if that is real, the Wiimote is very unresponsive and doesn't add any functionality to anything."
Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't realize that you tried this out and saw for yourself just how responsive it is.
What is the point, the point is that it's something cool to try out. I'm pretty sure that there have been MANY things in history that people have said "whats the point" that have turned out to be pretty cool.
It's probably just the fact that:
A) you have no wiimote in which to tinker with
B) you have no bluetooth adapter
C) Both A and B
Man, what a cynical attitude you have. - zeratul1320, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The video is legit. I downloaded the drivers myself and have been playing around with them for a while. The blinking lights do indicate connection, the random drifting when he is not moving it shows that it is slightly off center so there is a bit of drift. You can also control the rumble feature and the LEDs with the driver software.
- chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5what? the driver is for Windows XP it has nothing to do with a Macs. It would work the same if you ran it on a macbook or a sony laptop. It's got nothing to do with the hardware.
- N1XUK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Man... i want a driver update for my mac, this would kick ass with FrontRow etc
- usbserial, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4That wasn't sarcasm... it was a strange fantasy story... with some sarcasm on the side.
- UrlorJkron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Gotta love the hair.
- phaed, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6....jealous rantings of a mac fanboy
- Massif, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I want Linux drivers so I can use it with my MythTV box!
- lordkenthegreat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2So do I. Imagine Nintendo selling these as the new mouse replacement (*wink* *wink*)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hardware must have Bluetooth, but that's it.
- redskin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Did it occur to anybody that it is more realistic because it is so unresponsive?
The guy that wrote these drivers didn't have a Wiimote to work with. These are the first attempt at drivers for the Wiimote, so its likely to be imperfect. I would only see this as fake if it were too good. - protogenxl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Works on my PC
Make sure your bluetooth adapter is installed properly and youe the script on the 6th page of the thread
http://www.wiili.org/forum/download-windows-driver-here-t294-s75.html - wingnut21, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That doesn't offer the possibility of aiming precision in the future, but I guess it'd be cool to use for PC games in general if you already have it.
- KJSatz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11) Mostly, not solely.
2) Wii is 2-3x more powerful than the Gamecube.
3) On PS3? And I haven't seen a video of it working in OSX either?
4) Except being able to play Wii games...?
5) Wii plays Gamecube games. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Is it just me, or at the end of that video does he say:
".. and thanks to Carl Kenner for his.. uh... love pipe." - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Who the hell has the camcorder data on the tape in which they are tapeing and not simply on the screen?
Whenever I record something I never see that crap on my final video. - h3ndrix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah but what about sixaxis
- raid517, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"first.... too much delay and inaccuracy to be real"
What IS it with all of these reality denying nuts out there? I mean all this seems to have started with 9/11 conspiracy types - but now we have people going round denying that pretty much anything is real.
It's totally freakin' weird... - Wolfbeta, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Reminds me of the ending of my friends vacation video.
"Uh oh Batt--" - Wingnut233, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This would work even better if they manage to emulate some kind of homebrew sensor bar, say, a couple IR LEDs in the corner of the screen. That way, perhaps larger movements can be done by moving the controller left and right, while the tilt can be used for smaller, accurate movements.
All in all, a very interesting project! - comradeTJH, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1wow. Just what the world was waiting for. What's next? BT Mousedriver for Wii?
- marktastic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1he's talking about http://www.qj.net/Wiimote-Strap-TV-Something-awful/pg/49/aid/73586
- retral, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1It's real of course, but using the motion sensitivity as a mouse replacement is just not very ideal for the time being. I doubt that the wii remote will ever have much of a foothold on the PC - unless nintendo makes drivers for it & whatnot.
- subxero37, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've thought about trying something like this, but I have no Bluetooth on any of my machines -- then I thought about using my webcam and a special program to essentially do the same thing that the WiiMote does, which is detect an arbitrary number of points of light, and relay positional information back to the console. It's a genius system really.
On the flip side, the video looks to be 100% real. Macs have Bluetooth, the mouse cursor is moving in very straight lines, and always in the proper direction at the proper time, and the WiiMote is reacting correctly. Ask yourself, if you're still skeptical, why *wouldn't* it work, given that there are drivers for it out there? - subxero37, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I agree: I love Macs. I also love PCs. To me, it doesn't matter what OS you use -- it's like what kind of headache medicine you take: they all work, so who cares from whom you buy the medicine? On another note, whoever wrote the driver probably uses Windows, and so the guy recording this video, logically, had to use Windows to use the driver. It's not a bad thing, nor is it blasphemous "because it's Windows on a Mac." A PC is a computer that utilizes an x86 processor. A Mac is a computer that ... utilizes an x86 processor. So who cares?
- method3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This is pretty neat, now I can use my WiiMote with my laptop and 24" widescreen monitor in my room without having to buy a remote specifically for my pc. Bluetooth, lightweight, has some cool features but really simple overall. Really, who wants to buy a remote anyway? (MCE is crap!)
Anyhow, what's with people arguing about apple vs windows (vs linux)? We all get it, we all have preferences, they're useful for different things. There's no f'n reasing to be so evangelical about any of them. Enough already kids... - stevekeller, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@phaed "....jealous rantings of a mac fanboy"
...you do realize that the laptop in the video is a macbook pro, right? - Biscuit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I would love for this thing to work well. A number of reports saying that the WiiMole works very well on the Wii, going on about how intuitive the controls are and how easy people are able to pick it up. It could be that we are on our way towards a new way of interaction with our "media centres" or PC's.
- KismetSky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0So not only do I have a two controllers for my Wii.. I have two full power vibrators when I hold down the shift key.
