- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20I pay 4 bucks for coffee, so why not 3 for a TV show?
F'n Starbucks! :) - Stryker412, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Star Trek in HD FTW!
- culbeda, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Time for some big-ass hard drives for the 360...
- Ashkc88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Next step is game rentals. (hopefully)
- ForlornHope, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11What are the alternatives? Buy the entire DVD set when I only want one episode? Save a buck and buy it off iTunes? Spend 30 hours waiting for bittorrent to maybe get it?
- pEEpiNgtoM, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7yea and im also sure the quality on the xbl marketplace is probably better than the iTunes videos, which il believe all are 640x480
- byronm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Awesome news!

so you have a HD plasma tv but are still watching SD on it. Don't be crazy. I have had HD TV and reception from Comcast for the past 2 years and I must say its amazing. There are a lot of channels in HD today - ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox, PBS, ESPN, TNT, Disc, inHD, inHD2, UHD, TBS to just name a few and its only going to go up. You are missing out on a lot of good programming ( especially Disc, inHD and inHD2 ). You have even movies on demand in HD.
You're wasting your money ( at least TV watching ) by buying a plasma HD and watching SD. - aldebaran, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Anybody knows if it's available in Canada? Or when it will be?
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6You actually don't need a larger HDD, really. It's been confirmed that if you buy something but want to make room for something else you can delete your content and re-download it whenever you want. The Marketplace will always remember your purchases.
- Denver80203, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6No, have you before ruling it out for cost? I have an HD plasma but I have not ordered HD service yet... if they put something up really cool from discovery channel that I would like to check out and it's in HD I just may like to check it out.
I bet some people out there are willing to pay 3 bucks for a missed lost episode. - Gus1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4'Fraid so, due to some legal reasons, Europe wont be getting it until early next year.
- TrainwreckX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4And Playstation 3 owners weep. All two of them.
- Slybri, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4A good selection of Movies and TV shows for frat boys. Almost none of it in HD.
No Lost. No Heroes. No Battlestar Galactica.
I'll stick to Bit Torrent for now.. - jessestay, on 01/21/2009, -1/+4Uh, Tivo for free? Or, if you have Windows Media Center Edition, you can record for free and no monthly charges and stream over to your Xbox.
- sidebuster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I saw some episodes of supernatural and South Park (saw as in looked at price). The single episodes were 150 each. I think that is around $1.80 (please correct me if i am wrong)
I can't wait til they post episodes of Buffy, Heroes, Smallville, Ghost Hunters... MMMmmm so many movies.
And it is awesome because I wanted to see Nacho Libre and Mission Impossible 3 but it isn't worth it to go out and get them (and not Ondemand). Now I have the choice from my 360. Of course MI:3 and Nacho are not on there yet... - marosnax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3the only problem is downing a 2 gig TV show in HD seems to take forever (its been going for 40 mins and at 10%
- mainframe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Dude Blockbuster doesn't even do late fees anymore, they give you a week after its due to return the movie, if you don't bring it back within the extra week they charge the price of the DVD to you and then you own it.
- merdiesel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Batman Forever in HD.
Oh... No. - RoscoeP, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4You Brits just don't get it, do you?
- Cannfodd3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Clash of the Titans in HD.
Oh. Yeah. - Twist05, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3UMMMM
Is this America only? Cause I'm in Eng-ger-land and I'm not getting it. - DBiz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That makes too much sense for Microsoft.
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Man I gave up on Blockbuster a loooong time ago and haven't been there since they implemented that. The late-fee horror stories still haunt me every time I drive by one. But yeah, you're right that they don't do the late fees anymore. I even had to cancel the original credit card that I used to sign up at one and start visiting another Blockbuster 10 miles away because the late fees mysteriously got worse and worse.
Sorry, there's a lot of pent-up hate for that place. $8 for a video game rental...WTF?? - bnl771, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Damn it! I missed my chance to tivo this off HDnet so I bought the standard def DVD. Thank you Microsoft! Thank you! This is the first thing I'm downloading!
- angelp, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I don't know about you guys, but my local video rental store charges about $4.50 for a rental....$1.50 more for HD quality is fine with me and the convenience of not having to drive to the store only to find that they don't have it.
- piper999, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Yeah but for $6 to rent one HD movie they can kiss my ass.
Its a good idea ruined by high pricing. Its like the movie studios think "our customers want downloads but we don't - how can we ruin this? ". - yellowmello, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2So do you think MS is going to make it where you can send video that you got from xbox live to the Zune?
- foxhoundadmin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1well, i just downloaded 2 eps of robot chicken, just to see what it's all about, and i got a ***** 30 second, pixelated version of south park (s10e?--my super sweet 16) and chappelle's show. WTF!? now, i want my GODDAMN MONEY BACK! ***** THIS *****!
- DBiz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2No, that's what torrents are for.
I'm saying these offerings are terrible, sorry if CSI and it's 7 offsprings don't float my boat, but the least they could do is offer some shows that are popular NOW.
Lost? Heroes? BSG?
Oh, right... all content I could go without seeing. Why put shows up there that are on G4TV and network cable already that aren't popular or exciting?
And let's not forget the astronomical price and small hard drives we are stuck with for the time being. Nothing like paying that $3 to see an episode of a TV show that's 8 years old and then have it turn into dead space on the HD. - piper999, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Sorry I kind of lost it there after seeing the name 'Blockbuster' ;)
- middl3name, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Pootie Tang FTW!!!!
- Slybri, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yup, it's dead slow on the videos. I tried downloading a few of the free clips and it was so painfully slow that I cancelled them. Probably take all day to download an HD movie.
I downloaded Small Arms almost instantly though. - jonnyeh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I have an LCD HDTV but I don't think it's worth $50 a month for cable. It's cheaper to buy the odd TV episode online than pay for cable and watch ads.
- foxhoundadmin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1oh yeah, before, i tried download a ~300mb ep of beavis and butthead, and it took OVER 2 ***** HOURS! bittorrent is, like, 10x faster! WHAT A WASTE OF GODDAMN MONEY!!!
- winnopeg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Not working up here in Canada... :'(
- saether, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1as a test I'm "renting" the HD version of Unforgiven (5.74gb): started at 10 am, it is now 4pm, I am at 11%. Think I might just stick with Tv shows at the most.
- Gerz1219, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@piper999 -- One of the great things about online distribution is that there's practically no overhead. It will basically be impossible for this to "fail"; as long as MS keeps selling X-Boxes, their sales will go up, even if users are just renting on an occassional Sunday afternoon. They don't need a certain amount of downloads to remain profitable because it's all profit; most of the infrastructure is already being funded by Live subscriptions.
To answer your other questions -- I have digital cable, with HBO-HD and a handful of other channels I rarely watch. Didn't want to spring the money for the extra HD channels, including HD On Demand, which cost $6 a pop anyway if I recall correctly. X-Box Live + HD rentals is cheaper for me, in both the long and short run, than subscribing to extra digital channels or buying an HD-DVD player.
As to your other comment -- you mention three hours waiting for a download to finish on a rainy afternoon, but you don't mention that Netflix takes two business days to deliver a movie. You can't even receive a Netflix disc on a Sunday afternoon! - angelp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2A number of these shows are popular. Sorry Microsoft didn't customize their content so that "DBiz" would like it.
- jonnyeh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Not in Canada either (I assume), I'll check for it when I get home.
- jonnyeh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wouldn't that movie look worse in HD? I don't remember it having great cinematography, and even the res of the DVD make the special effects look dated.
- jonnyeh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It would depend on your download speed. If you download fast, you can start earlier. It's just like youtube or quicktime.
- angelp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I wonder at what percentage can you start watching the content? I know they said they would allow you to start watching it before it finished downloading.
- byronm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yes
- piper999, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Breath deeply. Its over now. No more Blockbuster.
I'm another one of their customers/victims by the way. I actually got sent a collection letter for a video that I returned two days before it was due back but the useless thieving ***** 'accidentally' put it back on the shelf without scanning it. Which they even said to me they knew about and acknowledged it happened to almost all of the customers at that store but then went ahead and tried to charge me anyway.
I feel like putting a brick through their window everytime I drive past a Blockbuster now.
And their stockholders wonder why the company went down the toilet - that's what happens when you try to steal money from people while simultaneously calling your customers liars. - angelp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Just correcting your incorrect statements. Wow....maybe you shouldn't post on Digg since you obviously can't handle being wrong...lmao!
- pretentious, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'd be willing to pay $4s for Battlestar in HD, now where is it?
Is Galactica even broadcasting anywhere in HD? - winnopeg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No idea. :/
