- publishcron, on 12/13/2008, -6/+304Very cool trip down memory lane.
- BrettFromTibet, on 12/13/2008, -11/+244I'm not even a gaming geek and this story rocked for the visual / evolutionary timeline!
- louiebaur, on 12/13/2008, -9/+185Dugg for Sim City 2000
- AnonymousD, on 12/13/2008, -2/+170Nintendo Game Boy Advance. First handheld device that integrates Wi-Fi
I missed that one.... - inactive, on 12/13/2008, -6/+158No oregon trail?
What the *****. - uldaman, on 12/13/2008, -1/+112Finally, the reasons why I had carpal tunnel at age 12 all on one page.
- khaosx2030, on 12/13/2008, -2/+94"Nintendo Game Boy Advance. First handheld device that integrates Wi-Fi"
What? If they're counting the wireless connector device then that was long after the N-Gage. - goldenhearted, on 12/13/2008, -0/+80I feel happy to know I played a lot of those kickass games in that list. Video gaming has been a great source of escapism and fun factor throughout my life. I can't really imagine my life without 'em.
- spepin, on 12/13/2008, -6/+83Dugg for evolution.
- bearzly, on 12/13/2008, -1/+75It would have been funnier if they stuck a Wii game in there down between Crysis and UT3 :p
- philojustin, on 12/13/2008, -3/+771999: NVIDIA introduces the GPU (Graphics Processor Unit)
Yeah, the first GPU as defined by NVIDIA. GPUs have been around since the 70s. - deeboe, on 12/13/2008, -2/+70Commander Keen! Oh, that takes me back.
- PrismoFillusion, on 12/13/2008, -0/+67Some of the jumps in graphics in just a one or two year period of time are astounding.
- doshindude, on 12/13/2008, -0/+66"The 1990s became the golden age of computer video games and gave birth to a large number of game developers and publishers such as Activision, Electronic Arts, Blizzard and id Software"
Activision wasn't born in the '90s. Activision has been around since the Atari 2600. - dav2691, on 12/13/2008, -0/+48It's amazing what 10 years in technological advances will do..
I wonder what another 10 years will bring.. - Koush, on 12/13/2008, -2/+49Look at Unreal...Now look at Unreal Tournament 3.
In 10 years I'll post another comment with the extension of - Now look at Unreal Tournament X.
Look forward to it :). - timothycrash01, on 12/13/2008, -0/+45Skynet.
- penguin13, on 12/13/2008, -1/+45Mmmmm......1998 that was a good year
- inactive, on 12/13/2008, -0/+35EA has been around since the '80s as well.
- bbobson12, on 12/13/2008, -3/+30dugg for intelligent design
- Crozz, on 12/13/2008, -0/+26What's your point? A console from 2000 wouldn't run newer games either.
- Crozz, on 12/13/2008, -0/+26Somehow I don't think the changes will be as noticeable as the last 10 years have been. It will probably be a huge difference but not something as rapid as the change from doom - half-life.
...or, in 10 years I'll be denying ever making this statement. - worseforwine, on 12/13/2008, -2/+27Yes but the DS came multiple times, which was more fulfilling for the DS
- Ugotownedo, on 12/13/2008, -1/+26Cool article, but why is "ATX motherboards are born" in both the 1995 and 1996 sections. And I'm pretty sure the PSP was INTRODUCED in 2003, not released. And "Nintendo Game Boy Advance. First handheld device that integrates Wi-Fi?" The DS was.
Overall good article; cool how it shows how much graphics have evolved. - Chalks777, on 12/13/2008, -0/+24Q*bert Reloaded - Now with 20 player deathmatch!
Sims Sim
Duke Nukem Forever? ... nope. - smrekar, on 12/13/2008, -0/+24That was 1985 on the Apple IIe
- t4m5t3r, on 12/13/2008, -8/+31it looks like who ever wrote this article didnt actualy know much about PC's.
The playstation 2 had better graphics capability's than a PC?, what PC was that, i think he thinking of a very specific PC, because 2000 was the year i got my first PC, because i saw my friends and realised how much better the graphics where than the PS2!!! i had consoles all the way up until the PSX which was my last console then i went to PC, also 2000-2001 was around about the time PC hardware just went nuts, that was they year of the 1GHZ CPU which started the whole GHZ explosion that we see today, its nice to see the gaming side and how much its changed, but they realy should have just stuck to games and left the hardware out of it, especialy when they clearly dont realy know much! (they either didnt know anything about PC hardware after 2000 or the didnt want to point out how much it leapeed foward in a short period of time , making the PS2 literaly obsolete over night, but thats only in terms of hadrware, the PS2 did its job well for its time, but the same is happening now, consoles are obsolete, not because their poorly made or cheaply made, but because of how fast technology changes, AMD expect to have 6 core CPU's on the shelves by next year, 6 CORES!!)
But what it is quite incredible how far games and graphics have come in just 8 years never mind 18, and just think where it will be in another 8!! - SpeedSteamBoat, on 12/13/2008, -0/+23This article successfully made me feel old. :(
Still interesting though. - Ockniel, on 12/13/2008, -1/+24They had to use a crappy shot from Crysis where the player was looking mostly at the sky, because there are no computers that can actually run Crysis normally.
- smrekar, on 12/13/2008, -0/+23Wolfenstein, doom, doom II were pretty big on my street.

Anyway, the article gets it wrong, GBA did not have integrated Wi-Fi. - bob_the_alien, on 12/13/2008, -1/+23it was now, but i still miss voodoo, they just lasted so long, a few minor software upgrades and they were good to go for every new game that came out.
- ArkRaider1936, on 12/13/2008, -2/+24Hopefully video games will soon evolve out of the muddy, brown and gray color scheme that seems to have taken over
- warrenterr, on 12/13/2008, -0/+19it's on the list...
- dudeguy1234, on 12/13/2008, -0/+19Wow. That brought back a LOT of memories... good times, good times. Just a couple problems: What are "the good all days", Whose Gameboy Advance had Wi-Fi, and how were ATX motherboards invented two years in a row? Other than that, pretty good article.
- tidu, on 12/13/2008, -0/+18Yeah there's a ton of inaccuracies, like how the GBA was the first handheld to use Wi-Fi...?
- madk, on 12/13/2008, -0/+18Man...what a walk down memory lane! We are truly lucky for living through this.
- gamelord12, on 12/13/2008, -3/+21No one else noticed that the screenshot for Splinter Cell was from Chaos Theory and not the first one? How about the guy dating PSP at 2003, when it was actually 2005. Playstation 2 released with better graphics than a PC? Why is that the special console that gets that mention? Everyone knows the cycle goes like this:
console is released with better graphics than PCs--->3 months later, PCs get better looking games--->repeat - ChileanGoD, on 12/13/2008, -0/+183Dfx
- freehunter, on 12/13/2008, -0/+17Not to dog your post, but Godfather 2 looks (graphically) like *****, and hasn't Alan Wake been "coming out next year" for like, 3 years?
- cmf2071, on 12/13/2008, -0/+16Finally a list of games that in my opinion includes 95% of the most kickass titles of the last decade. If I spent half the time I spent playing them studying I would probably be finishing my PhD by now. Thank god I didn't...

- Aurabolt, on 12/13/2008, -0/+15Yes it was. Ocarina of Time and Goldeneye for us console-bound kids =D
- EvilFerret, on 12/13/2008, -0/+15Voodoo 5 5500 FTW!!! Seriously though, I couldn't afford that...I only had a Voodoo 4 :( They always had cool ads in the magazines though.
- lowdose, on 12/13/2008, -0/+14It really needed to be a slideshow that we would have to click a million times to get through. I like clicking, don't you? What would we do on the internet without things t click?
- inactive, on 12/13/2008, -1/+15Damn, I miss my voodoo, too. That was a sad day when they went belly-up.
