- EricJD, on 10/12/2007, -5/+36Does it have to be 100% real to be cool?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+27@StarManta
Go do it then.. Your half hour starts now... - tidu, on 10/12/2007, -3/+24Yeah, those extra 1,000 blocks of blue sky would have really made it better.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22You say that the title says it all, but does it really?
- 8177, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Cool. Too bad mario avoided most of the targets. Would have liked to see one of those angry mushroom squashed. Greatl video nonetheless.
Dugg - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Well, it doesn't exactly say how much CGI was used, but if they used stop motion animation, I going to say a small portion of the clip actually needed CGI, to recreate the level almost exactly like the original, like the bricks shining. Everything else would be easily recreated with stop motion animation. And were you not going to digg it?
- DigeratiPrime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Done. not original quality anymore but oh well.

No, indeed, have you ever seen the products of a plastic surgeon?
BTW, very cool video, I wonder how many FPS it is. - titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -6/+17Indeed I do say it all. *flies away*
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11I dugg your comment just because you said "angry mushroom squashed."
- freqout, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11just my opinion, but i don't think a single actual lego was involved in the making of this video.
- TheVetos, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10DONT MARK AS INNACURATE!!! it ruins all crediblitly of a story, what was he supposed to title it?
"Made of mostly lego bricks, but they cheated" ?!? - brstilson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I thought this was going to be actual lego figures jumping around, not just a flat mosaic.
- consoneo, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12http://duggmirror.com/videos_gaming/Video_First_level_of_Super_Mario_Bros_3_done_with_Lego_s/
- titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Link yourself.
- actionscripted, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Great, they learned how to distort and overlay video on a lego board.
- kendawg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7To me it just looks like a pixelated video on a Lego texture....which is not impressive. It would be cool if there was some 'realness' to it.
- Burton1098, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5what an amateur. He didn't even duck behind the white block ;)
- marioluigi123, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Here's a still picture:

LEGO? You decide. - DavidLightman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6THE PLURAL OF 'LEGO' IS 'LEGO' NOT 'LEGO'S' !!!!!!!!!!!!!
- teddyrux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Thank you so much for the link. Does that make anyone else want to pull out their NES and play really badly?
- Spazkake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3youtube anyone?
- ChileanGoD, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4yup, it got dugg allready. It's dead.
- moonhead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Ergh. Need a video mirror. YouTube / Google Vid anyone?
- millerbrad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Stop the video at any frame you'd like, and look at a few individual pixels. Each pixel corresponds to a Lego "nub". If it isn't stop motion, it's at least halfway decent CGI.
- r2builder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Genius idea, the only thing that ruined it for me was that the wood grain was out of scale of the lego bricks, so you could tell that something was off - great concept though! Reminds me of that Michel Gondry video for the White Stripes - Fell in love with a girl:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=J6TcX_TKLcg - rspeed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3It's CG. There's simply no way a human could do that. It would take years.
Ockham's razor says he wrote a script that converts the pixels of a movie into Lego blocks. - demonmonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Actually the video DOES play (on the Mirror)... be patient?
- arkmtech, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Maybe I'm alone here, but... I'm guessing this is a Fraps + NES Emulator screen-capture of Mario 3, cropped in video-editing software, and screened onto a 3D-model of Lego bricks.
Not that it isn't cool - It just doesn't seem all it's cracked up to be. - dacheetah, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I agree with Dr.No, regardless of weather it's wrong to call the LEGO bricks "Lego's" (which I'll admit it is, even if it's common practice) it's still a cool video, and still worthy of being dugg.
At the same time as saying this is totally diggworthy, I would like so say that it would be nice if people did either use LEGO as a collective noun (like sheep are not sheeps) if they are too lazy to say LEGO bricks, and learn to use apostrophe properly. English is messed up enough without more rules being broken... - Sike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Totally awesome. Like TOE-TAIL-EE. Althought it doesn't really resemble Legos, it's cool nonetheless.
- titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I know, I like my new one better.
- stilldavid, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3duggmirror doesn't show the video...
- gaijintendo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I hate to point this out, but there is a bit of a cottage industry in making lego pieces look real. Look up LegoDraw BrickCad and so on and see just how many people are playing around with Maya and coming up with photorealistic pieces.
If you use software like this, it makes watching this harder to believe. - anonatron, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I am calling this legit, not to mention, much like a pair of breasts... they are real if I can enjoy them!
- 1town, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Theres no way in hell that was stop motion.
Lke arkmtech said, most likely a low res projection onto the lego surface - alej744, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2you changed your icon!
- dacheetah, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I say it's real... There are shadows on the lego pieces that would make it either a VERY good fake, or real...
(You can see the height of the pieces above the blue backdrop, particularly in the holes in the tree where there is no black border)
I say it's at least mostly real. (Besides, it would be SO much more fun to make it stop motion. Faking it would be boring by comparison.)
You can also see the pieces being changed in the black backdrop near the end) - theonlydrayk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1http://www.bitflicks.com/videos/SMW3_5Mbps_640x480.flv
(20.1 Meg) - gaijintendo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1There is no shortage of tools for rendering Lego, and it is easier to render it than "Project a video onto Lego".
http://telepresence.dmem.strath.ac.uk/jen/lego/hooklift_render.htm - bmson, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2amazing
- ptaylor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Video is OK, but this cannot be a real Lego vid. Let's be honest. StarManta is right, this is a layered animation, I don't know about 1/2 creation though, but an actual photo by photo creation of a Lego board can't be this fluid, but layered animation can.
- DoctorNo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Get a life,
Lego or "lego's", the video was cool. - RaGa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1*****
- alej744, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This sucks... I was expecting a 3-D movie of tall legos, not just flat legos put across a board... :(
- pfunked, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The LEGO company has an official way of pluralizing their product. LEGO bricks, LEGO toys, etc. Never Lego or legos. Lego's is right out.
- Bara, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Wow, really impressive. I liked that more than I should. Although, why was it kind of "zoomed in" ... It would have looked a lot better had it been at the same "resolution" as the game.
- Quakes, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Why even link to a blogpost with such a horrible, repeating background? It ruins our eyes.
- NSMike, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Because you saying "I do say it all" means - titlesaysitall says it all.
- OnePunchMickey, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I'll second that.
"LEGO" is the plural! And before anyone tells me to get a life, spelling and punctuation are important you illiterate muppets. -
