- hollywoodphony, on 11/17/2008, -2/+109I don't want to get sick. I'll just stick to Hello Kitty Island Adventure.
- Doomsan, on 11/17/2008, -3/+75Every FPS should show the rest of the body, it always seems like you are a pair of arms floating around.
- GregIsLegend, on 11/17/2008, -3/+64God dammit butters... go out and buy World of Warcraft, install it on your computer and join the online sensation before we all murder you...
- rockrapdude, on 11/17/2008, -0/+51Am I the only one who didn't get sick while playing it?
- karan1003, on 11/17/2008, -1/+35This could really set a new standard for character - world interaction. Very few games are able to make gamers feel like they're really in it.
- 83457, on 11/17/2008, -0/+29Can't possibly be more nauseating than playing Descent for the first time.
- iSeven, on 11/17/2008, -9/+30I'm still waiting for the PC version. =( Why does it have to come out NEXT YEAR?!?!?
- sexybobo, on 11/17/2008, -0/+20L4D gives you a body. If you look down you see your feet running.
- LaGStAr, on 11/17/2008, -0/+19So they can make money off of the console versions of the game before it gets pirated to hell.
@mclewell (below me) - People are far more likely to pirate a PC game in which all you have to do is download it, whereas pirating a console game requires modding your console which, I believe, most people won't do because it's a pain in the ass. - Solkre, on 11/17/2008, -2/+19Yah but who can actually run that?
- dle5, on 11/17/2008, -1/+14Never thought I'd have so much fun just running and jumping. It's like Mario Bros on steroids.
- LessThanDan, on 11/17/2008, -0/+13Crysis lets you see your own body as well.
- chaosblade77, on 11/17/2008, -0/+13I just wish it wasn't so short. That's what pushed this game to "rent" status rather than "buy." Maybe when the price drops I'll actually pick it up to support a sequel or development of a similar type of game.
- richashby, on 11/17/2008, -0/+12No. I held my lunch down too.
It's all down to the inner ear. - jerrycan, on 11/17/2008, -1/+126 months? I'm still using my 8800. That's gotta be coming up on 2 years.
- Jsmuli2, on 11/17/2008, -2/+13Everyone knows it's Butters!
...That's ME! - Fishn2, on 11/17/2008, -2/+12yes, because in this default view I have in the real world, all I see are my arms and guns.
Damn you world, let me have my third person view. - sexybobo, on 11/17/2008, -0/+9try playing FPS your self see if you get nauseated. For most people it is like car sickness if you are in the card watching some one drive you might get motion sick but you probably wont when you are the one driving.
- TiMMY8765, on 11/17/2008, -0/+9yeah it's nice in FPS's to be able to see your feet when you have to do a platforming section
- BeatPunchbeef, on 11/17/2008, -1/+9Wow, you sound like a real catch.
- TiMMY8765, on 11/17/2008, -2/+10any game that has you balancing with the sixaxis pisses me off to no end.
I'M HOLDING THE DAMN THING PERFECTLY FLAT WHY DO YOU LEAN TO ONE SIDE!
Uncharted has some of this too, but there are only a few sections with it - foolishwolf, on 11/17/2008, -2/+9Dugg for "Victory in Vomit". Rolls off the tongue quite nicely.
- nyx210, on 11/17/2008, -2/+9What kind of third person games do YOU play?
- Bahamut240, on 11/17/2008, -0/+7No kidding, I used to play that two player, one person doing the flying and shooting and another for navigation. Nothing like forgetting which way is up when running from a reactor explosion.
- mclewell, on 11/17/2008, -1/+7you can still pirate console games (not that I would know or anything....)
- olafcore, on 11/17/2008, -0/+6I own this game for the 360, it's one of the best games I've played in the past couple of years. You really get into it, and everything starts to feel second nature.
- DreKor, on 11/17/2008, -0/+6Tribes let you see the rest of your body. But then, Tribes was pretty much perfect.
- negrox, on 11/17/2008, -0/+6Am I the only one to remember Breakdown for the original XBOX?
It worked around the same principle of P.O.V. gaming, no acrobatics, but you had superpowers and hallucinations. - chubbybubba, on 11/17/2008, -1/+6The best parts of Assassin's Creed was the jumping and climbing. Can't wait to play Mirror's Edge.
- MWeather, on 11/17/2008, -1/+6Just turn the graphics options down. That's what they do with games they port from the PC to consoles.
- ericrous, on 11/17/2008, -2/+7No
- Muffinhunter, on 11/17/2008, -0/+5protip: use the stick instead of the sixaxis.
- 1807, on 11/17/2008, -3/+8I feel this writer's pain. I too have been nauseated from too much movement in a FPS before. I think for me, it was one of the most under-rated FPS of all time, The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay. If you have yet to play this diamond in the rough, You've really gotta try it. It's probably my favorite FPS of all time. I played it on PC, so I dunno if my amazing experience would translate well to X-box, but for all you console gamers, it's worth a shot.
- XeRoX2k2, on 11/17/2008, -0/+5so in other words you want to see boobs bouncing in and out of the bottom of the screen as female characters run in first person view
- inactive, on 11/17/2008, -2/+7what, you thought it was gonna be like god of war?
- soupdawg30, on 11/17/2008, -0/+5I didn't think it would be like anything. I just wanted to walk across the pipe. I tried multiple times. I even disabled six axis and just used the left joystick. The game looks great but I apparently do not have a very steady thumb.
- SkippyDoorknob, on 11/17/2008, -1/+5I think it should be the next Call of Duty game:
Call of Duty: World at War
Call of Duty: Victory in Vomit - GarrettGrimsley, on 11/17/2008, -1/+5Didn't even get queasy, even with the reticle off.
- vizeroth, on 11/17/2008, -1/+5I haven't played this game yet, but I have a feeling the cause of the sickness is not what's described in the article. There are one or two FPS games in the past that have made me sick, and it usually has to do with the motion of the viewpoint, not the things you might see on the screen.
Similarly, I can't watch a recorded demo from an FPS game or use the various observer modes coded into some games. Watching the game after a death in counterstrike is a sure way to make sure I don't stick around for another round, as I get sick within a few minutes.
Some people are more susceptible to it than others, and given that some of the games that give me this problem are fairly popular, I'd have to say it's more likely that they've done something that exaggerates the effect (and maybe seeing more of your body does that). To me the problem seems to be more of one where my mind finds subtle problems with the way things are moving (ie when watching a demo the player obviously doesn't do exactly what I would be doing). It may be that having more of the body in the picture leads to more problems with the way things move. I'll have to check out the demo and see how it goes, but obviously if it does make me sick I'm not going to bother buying it. - NeoCortex, on 11/17/2008, -0/+3Portal had the same effect on me.
- inactive, on 11/17/2008, -0/+3CoD: That Pile of Goo is Your Friends Face
- television, on 11/18/2008, -0/+3I hate MrBabyMan.
That is all. - reyoo30309, on 11/17/2008, -0/+3Vomit never rolls off the tounge nicley...
- vizeroth, on 11/17/2008, -0/+3You should note that it's quite possible that you wouldn't get nauseous if you were playing yourself. I can't watch other people play FPS games, either, but have no problem whatsoever playing most games myself.
- petebot, on 11/17/2008, -0/+3So I think we need to come up with another abbreviation for this game, since I keep thinking people are talking about Mass
Effect. It’s only get more confusing when they both have sequels out. - leif777, on 11/17/2008, -0/+3I had no problems at all... i think the rest of you are pussies
- Slackdragon, on 11/17/2008, -0/+3DLC content?
Gonna pay for it with cash you deposited at the ATM machine? I hope you don't forget your PIN number.
I hope the 1st person POV view didn't make you sick. - Kyrgizion, on 11/17/2008, -0/+3They used to actually do that in older 3d-games. If you had a cheat code to see yourself in 3rd person, you could see that the avatar was nothing more than a floating weapon with two arms attached.
- cl2yp71c, on 11/17/2008, -2/+4That applies to A LOT of games.
We, PC gamers need to wait till the game is already old news.
