Nah, who am I kidding? Gang violence and corrupt street youth didn't exist before video games. - OptykUnreal, on 10/05/2009, -0/+24The Following Items have been rated EC-10 condemned for Emotional Content....
- joshuawest, on 10/05/2009, -1/+25Tickle-Me Elmo is goin DOWN!
- ManHammer, on 10/06/2009, -0/+22Just ban violence....problem solved!
- MatzahMan, on 10/06/2009, -3/+20can I get a "***** CHAVEZ"?
- rascilon, on 10/06/2009, -3/+20Extreme governments, whether left or right, always end up as some sort of Nanny State. The Radical Middle is where the real freedom lies.
- doctechnical, on 10/05/2009, -1/+16This does not bode well for my new RTS game, "Happy Hugo vs. the Nattering Nabobs of Negativism".
- santiago1, on 10/05/2009, -0/+14 I'm curious as to how they define the "Violence" to determine what gets banned. I mean Super Mario Cart is violent if you want to get technical.
- lolerskate, on 10/05/2009, -6/+19I always said chavez was a douche, guess you got the proof now.
- Khast, on 10/06/2009, -0/+11Way to go, ban violent video games...and only criminals will play violent video games.
- ZhiZaki, on 10/05/2009, -0/+10I think I could handle having emotions taken away long enough to learn some ninja gun judo fighting style....
- Cannonballkid, on 10/06/2009, -2/+11No its a beautiful country run by a Tyrant. I suggest you give it a visit before damning it.
- zemkacz, on 10/06/2009, -0/+9****** chavez*
- arapro, on 10/06/2009, -3/+11Oh whoa, that will really help get the guns out of the street and reduce crime.
For example, Chavez went to a hospital far away from the Capital ( Caracas ) and from there he stated that Venezuela has got one of the most advanced medical services providers in the world. What he did not say, is that in order to get to a hospital in an emergency most probably an ambulance would have to take you. And since this time he flew on a helicopter ( he, himself said it that morning ) he probably did not notice that the road to this hospital with primo facilities has been completely neglected, from 4 lanes, only one is usable. I guess it is not his fault, from the air it all looks so pretty.
Chavez SUCKS ! And he talks a lot ! - heliumflash, on 10/05/2009, -4/+11Screw Chavez and his power hungry cronies.
- LocoMan, on 10/06/2009, -0/+5What I want to know is how are they planning to enforce it.
There's no market for legit video games here except for a few nintendo DS games. If I wanted to buy a legitimate PC game, I'd have to drive to the capital 9 hours away (and I live on the 4th largest city on the country and one of the biggest industrial centers)... but just walking to work I pass in front of 3 big stores (with big neon signs and all) that sell pirated games for PC and all consoles (and movies and music), and a lot more within walking distance.
Violent toys, maybe, but a law that bans violent video games wouldn't be more than a symbolic gesture. - cmf2071, on 10/06/2009, -2/+7You've already had plenty of proof.
- jugglingjon, on 10/06/2009, -0/+4The article keeps saying that the parents applaud the ban, but couldn't they have kept violent games from their kids on their own, any time they wanted?
- Azsen, on 10/06/2009, -0/+4Yes it is very beautiful I visited it last year. Lush jungle and rainforest, beautiful white sandy beaches, Caribbean paradise. I'd totally go and live there but I don't speak much Spanish and there are too many other political, stability and safety problems.
- jaaames, on 10/06/2009, -0/+4Way to take one for the team
- inactive, on 10/06/2009, -0/+4hahahah timmyftw your such a moron. i hear glen beck calling you, his ballz are getting dry.. you teabaggin moron.
- ImYourRealDad, on 10/06/2009, -0/+3No, no they were not.
- chromerium, on 10/06/2009, -0/+3"When the legislation first went to the floor in the predominantly pro-Chavez legislature, lawmakers watched images from the popular "Grand Theft Auto" game showing a man pulling people out of their cars and severely beating them before stealing the vehicles."
Because people weren't doing that before GTA came along.
Right.
But hey, at least when they do this, and it fails to reduce the violence on the streets, we'll have some actual data to point at and say, hey look, it didn't ***** workin Venezuela, so it won't work here!
But then people will just say, "ah, but we're different" - Pixelante, on 10/06/2009, -0/+3Seeing how many countries are banning violent games, I'm almost tempted to try a new career in software smuggling. Seriously: it's going to be the new yoyo.
- irvin666, on 10/06/2009, -1/+4Next time week on el presidente: "I"m banning all Maxis games, an earthquake destroyed my city and I can't seem to satisfy my utility advisor. I can't find that damn waterless building spot! ***** Simcity!"
- inactive, on 10/06/2009, -2/+5If you ban violent video games all violence will end and all the peoples of this Earth will stand under a rainbow, link hands and sing Kumbaya.
Also, ban Pacman because it causes compulsive eating. - eyeWired, on 10/06/2009, -0/+2Such as posting on Digg?
- BooLag, on 10/06/2009, -0/+2Cleric?
- BlackJacket, on 10/06/2009, -1/+3Yes, but we have all these guns and tanks.
- jaaames, on 10/06/2009, -1/+3Gun kata*
- thizzlebot, on 10/06/2009, -0/+2Some people live such shielded lives.
- Pixelante, on 10/06/2009, -0/+2Dupont, is that you?
- BlackJacket, on 10/06/2009, -0/+2Probably people with money. More money than you or I. You and I will be afforded the ability to play video games. I doubt its likely that the average "Third World Walter" will.
- BearinG, on 10/06/2009, -0/+2Nah.. they play that IRL
- neocreo, on 10/06/2009, -0/+2Because it is not possible to buy games outside of the country where they are banned, and then make a mint selling them to your peers.
You are not allowed to buy porn before you are 18, so sure no one ever sees porn before that age. Hard-core porn was 'illegal' in Britain up until 2001 - which meant only licensed shops in SoHo in London had them - at a ridiculous price. Sure, that stopped people from being immoral.
You can not legislate free will. - dhjackburton, on 10/06/2009, -0/+2I disagree. I was working on remodeling my house today and a piece of wood fell on my head. Had it been a blue shell that hit me I probably would have been rolling around on the ground laughing as opposed to rolling around swearing.
- BlackJacket, on 10/06/2009, -0/+2Brilliant!
- chromerium, on 10/06/2009, -0/+2http://weblog.leidenuniv.nl/media/blogs/76039/invi ...
- aquapete, on 10/06/2009, -1/+3well i wonder if venezuelas gonna be having more babbies next year.
- neocreo, on 10/06/2009, -0/+1Actually what I meant was, did prohibition really stop anyone from drinking? No, it laid the grounds for a black market in spirits.
In the UK the black market in porn was quite bad and also opened up for the mafia. Same thing with prositution.
Is there a reason why web cafés in muslim countries all seem to have gay porn in the history? Because it is illegal with gay sex, that is why.
Same thing happens with drugs these days - and no I don't need any Viagra ;)
Legislation can only do so much, but it can not stop anything. Ever. Only way to tackle it is to remove the people who would buy the product. And I don't think anyone really want to go down that route. - the8thbit, on 10/06/2009, -0/+1http://img39.imageshack.us/img39/2454/politicalcom ...
Considering we're talking about the left and the right, yes, Nazi Germany was moderate. Fascist and reactionary, but economically, moderate. This makes sense, considering corporatism is an incredibly moderate stance, and is a stance that is integral to fascism.
I'm tired of this concept that being in the dead center of both extremes somehow elevates you above anyone who takes enough interest and puts enough time into researching economics to figure out their economic stance. And besides, most people I've encountered who do call themselves moderate are really conservatives, because they tend to be from the US and the US political spectrum is so shifted to the right that the president looks leftist. - InactiveUser, on 10/06/2009, -0/+1Well I guess bored to ***** teens can go out root themselves silly and make billions of babies for an economy that cannot hope to cope or, they will more than likely just go around and smash ***** up, terrorize neighborhoods and make shop owners nervous.
Smart move ---remember the butterfly flapping its wings? - BooLag, on 10/06/2009, -0/+1How is babby formed?
- InactiveUser, on 10/06/2009, -0/+1Watching the news is violent..
- opticwind, on 10/06/2009, -2/+3I think we should digg up this spammer to like 100 diggs just to ***** with them.
- jpschlosser, on 10/07/2009, -0/+1Right. Ban violent video games, and yet spend $2.2 BILLION on weapons. http://www.defensenews.com/story.php?i=4275533
It's simplistic, but spend that money buying an X360 or PS3 for every household in Venezuela and I guarantee you that the crime rate will go down. (Roughly: 2 billion / $300 = 6.7 million. Venezuela's population: 26.8 million / 4 per family = 6.7 million) - BlackJacket, on 10/06/2009, -0/+1Now we're talking...
Even better... We now have a commodity that the people of Venezuela are going to be literally killing each other for. Video games! We got the market cornered. Bill Gates can use his foundation to send every kid in Venezuela an Xbox 360 with GTA 4. With fancy protocols like "Token Ring Wifi" so he can play "online" with his friends when the power gets switched on. - inactive, on 10/06/2009, -0/+1If there's some overlap in what I said, it's coincidence. I don't actually know what the Colbert Report is.
- Atario, on 10/06/2009, -0/+1...guaranteeing that the banned games will be the most coveted.
- VinceIP, on 10/06/2009, -0/+1***** THE RIAA!!
