- AshsToAshs, on 10/11/2007, -4/+120Valve confirmed something???
where am i...
who is this... - walkingdogs, on 10/11/2007, -0/+49You waited this long why not wait till October and see what hardware is out then.
- EvolvedAnt, on 10/11/2007, -2/+40Looks like I can no longer wait to upgrade my PC. Sorry ATI 9600 XT... you served me well when you came with Half-Life 2 for free, but now I must part with you, for HDR and Half-Life 2's expansions are calling my name with sweet irresistable whispers of beauty I can not fathom...
- xerus, on 10/11/2007, -6/+24I cant wait to play this with my Wii mote hooked up to my PC. :I
- meistaiwan, on 10/11/2007, -4/+21I can't wait for this game, I've been wanting to play 2fort2 again for ages. I really mean ages.
From wikipedia:
The new design was revealed to the public at the 1999 E3, where it earned several awards including Best Online Game and Best Action Game.
Not a bad product cycle right? 8 years, only around 35% of my entire lifetime waiting for a game - general13, on 10/11/2007, -1/+17Man, I'm sorry to do this to you guys, but...
[TripDownMemoryLane]
There I was, me and my buddies. All geeks....I remember every Friday-->Saturday we'd go over to my buddy Wesley's house, because he had an 8-port HUB (not switch), and we'd hook up all our clunky desktops and play CS 1.5, Quake 2, and TF all night long.
*sigh* those were better days. Did anyone ever play any map besides 2fort? Nope. Because it freaking rocked out, with it's appendage out.
Except Wesley was wicked good at the sniper...and it pissed me off. And since there were only about 6 of us, no one was fooled by the Spy trick.
Life just isn't as fun any more, as it was back then...I could blow DAYS on a game, not caring at all. Now I'm nervous if I waste 1 hour on a game. What happened? Responsibility is lame. *longing stare over the horizon*
[/TripDownMemoryLane] - FDL1, on 10/11/2007, -2/+17I'm hoping that it is indeed October 9, 2007, and not October 9, 2008 (Half-Life 2, anyone?)...
- Ahnteis, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14Yes, it's TF2, not TFC:S.
Not an update, a new version.
(Those who just wanted a source-ified TFC should look into fortress forever. http://www.fortress-forever.com/ ) - bobcrotch, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12Awesome episode 2 and Portal also, lets hope they meet the october 9th date =)
- walkingdogs, on 10/11/2007, -4/+16You may not be able to wait for it on the Wii but you will have to because it's not coming out on it.
- fraul, on 10/11/2007, -3/+15I just can't wait to play TF2
Team fortress is the best game - EVER. - Sp4nk, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12500 release dates, one box.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10I'm embarrassed to say that I have never played Half Life 2 before (loved the original Half Life). Looks like that was a good thing, as now I will get that, and the expansions, and TFC2, all in one box. And I don't even need to upgrade my pathetic little PC to play them!
I just hope it won't be too terrible an experience on my Xbox 360 without mouse-look. But, hey, it's Half Life 2. I doubt they can screw it up too much for it's console port. - SteelChicken, on 10/11/2007, -3/+10unless they get "hacked" again and have to delay.
- aubrey, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8It's about time. If anything has convinced me that episodic gaming is a dismal failure, it is this. HL2E2 was supposed to be out what seems like years ago.
And what about Sin: Emergence? How lame is it to release the first part of a game and disappear? We didn't even get to play with the good weapons yet.
What I am hoping is that with all this extra development time on HL2E2, that the game feels more like a full fledged game than an episode. If it is still pretty short like Episode 1, I'm going to be bummed. Who wants to wait another couple of years for a few hours of entertainment? - nonymous666, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7> Your 9600XT came with HL2, so it was good enough to run HL2, correct?
> And HL2:Episodes 1 & 2 run on the same engine.
> So your old card should be sufficient.
That would be 'sufficient', but not optimal.
The current Source engine has had significant improvements over what it was first capable of with HL2. HDR, bloom lighting, anti-aliasing of transparent textures (such smoothing out a chain-link fence), etc. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6No one posted a link to convert "valve time" into real time?
http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Valve_Time - Downtime, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6finally! cannot wait for ep2!
- rasputinaxp, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7Jesus H. Blogspam.
Original article at Shacknews: http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/47435 - BLyn, on 10/11/2007, -4/+8Good timing. Should be tired of 12 year olds playing halo 3 on live by then.
- oMeSSiaHo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Episodic content is a good idea but Valve isnt the company to do it. They are ALWAYS late because they always work to perfect everything, which is why they have good games. If the company grew or they were more lax it would work and I personally dont really favor the latter option.
- gotamd, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Have they confirmed when they're moving ads to Source-based games yet? Counter-Strike 1.6 is so much better now that we have ads plastered all over the maps and our scoreboards...
/sarcasm - StormTrooperVII, on 10/11/2007, -6/+9its about damn time. Lets just hope they don't pull another hl2 on us. Oh wait...
- Volkov137, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I'm upset no one is talking about Portal in this thread. Angry!
- Drumr32, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3It's about time. If I'd had known that it was going to take this long between episodes then I rather would have waited the extra time for a full game. Still though, it's an excellent package.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Yeah, what happened? The whole point was that it wouldn't take as long to develop as a full-fledged game. And I'm really pissed off about SiN Episodes - the first one was really good, and I was really looking forward to... Oh God, I can't even think about it, it depresses me too much. Rat bastards! I think the Sam & Max episodic content is going well, though. I haven't had a chance to play it 'cause my computer sucks at the moment, but they at least seem to be churning out new episodes regularly.
- xerus, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4I'm assuming the worst for TF2... Half Life 2 Deathmatch is complete garbage when compared to HLDM, so I don't exactly trust in Valve to make a solid multiplayer experience anymore. But, I'll still hope for the best.
- Phyltre, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Valve lost a customer when they announced the episodic nature of the HL series. Why? Because I KNEW that, this being Valve, we would STILL be waiting forever between episodes. All this does is slightly reduce the wait time while reducing play time. Not worth the wait. In a few years I'm probably going to get some anniversary edition and just play the thing through, to get the story, but I'm sure as heck not playing one piece, waiting for a delayed second tiny piece that takes years, then doing it again for however long Valve decides to string me along. At least sequels are games in their own rights.
- starvo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Yup, about three months before I need to worry about upgrading. Sounds good. Unless Quake Wars end up thrashing my poor old Athlon system. :(
- manmademark, on 10/11/2007, -3/+5"The studio's upcoming trio of Source-powered games will ship for all announced platforms on October 9, 2007."
In other words: December 15, 2007 - f4nt0m4s, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4October!...that gives me just enough time to get back into my TFC groove. It has been many days since last I played as a Spy or Sniper in Well or 2fort.
- hobophobe, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I'm looking forward to Portal in a big way. If you haven't already, check out its prequel: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narbacular_Drop
It's worth killing a little time to play around with, but not nearly as intense as the demos for Portal look.
I may finally have to set up cedega (or boot into Windows) in October. - bemenaker, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3PYRO PYRO PYRO :D
- fuzzmeister, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Good times, good times.
- Asianwaste, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I remember all of the things that made Team Fortress 2 exciting were eventually taken by CS and Battlefield 2. Like VOIP and a commander mode.
- hybridcreation, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Are you serious?
The episodic format sounded like a good idea, but if it is always going to be this long between games then I'm kind of against it now. Seems like I played through Ep1 forever ago...not to mention the 2000 rounds of BF2142 and Company of Heroes since then. I'll have to replay it just to remember what happened. - Janus67, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3www.fortress-forever.com
just remember to look forward to that. - EvolvedAnt, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Then you should appreciate this.
http://mrwhitethc.waits.for.tf2.com/ - fuzed, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Love the redesign (graphically) of TF2. The idea of adding a comedic/cartoony element to a multiplayer shooter should make for some great fun at LANs.
Way to go Valve. Really looking forward to this!!! - Cl1mh4224rd, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Third confirmation is a charm!
- melat0nin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1woops
- Asianwaste, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1@ Sp4nk
The only release date that is missing would be Duke Nukem 4ever's - melat0nin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1As funny as that is, I find it kinda grating that Valve should lampoon their own dismal failures at getting games out on time, when they could be working on them and reaching deadlines.
tbh, with the wait between developments in the half life universe, I've lost much of my fascination and interest in it. As mentioned above, I think I'll wait a while and get a boxset of some kind to really experience the story properly. This drip-feeding by Valve is ruining their own fantastic franchise and its backbone, the brilliant storyline. - Saust, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I wonder if the PS3 version really is launching on the same day? What with the slew of multi-platform games slipping for the PS3, I will be very annoyed if it doesn't.
Most likely I'll be buying this pack (Orange box) on the PC anyway, unless the console features match up or exceed the PC's. - hotsake, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1@general, badlands, cz2, and gasworks are some of my favorites, though I loved conc jumping out of the water on 2fort as a medic and infecting the other team. I was big into HL multi before all the mods degraded it.
- cambob76, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1WTF is steam?
- hotsake, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1"I don't see your logic.
Your 9600XT came with HL2, so it was good enough to run HL2, correct?
And HL2:Episodes 1 & 2 run on the same engine.
So your old card should be sufficient."
Sufficient, but nothing more. I have a Sapphire Radeon 9600 that's tweaked a bit out of the box, and it cannot handle HL2 at its highest graphics settings. It was a mid-range card used as a marketing promo. Don't get me wrong, it's still a decent card, but it choked on the Lost Coast HDR demonstration. I still play CS 1.6 because CS:Source is dreadful with this card. - hotsake, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Buy them from Steam, then. You only get the games you want, and it'll be cheaper than retail.
- BalooUrsidae, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Great. Now if they'd only announce Linux compatibility for Steam or at the very least, Wine compatibility, so people can actually play the damn thing.
- quamb, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1"8 years, only around 35% of my entire lifetime waiting for a game"
Hahah so true. Been a massive wait. Alot longer then TF Classic.
People forget that it began with QuakeWorld TF and Quakespy (not gamespy!). A massive leap in online gaming mind you - if not the first fps team-based online game? Good on Valve to snap up those (now reknown) mod makers up. -
