- whiteknives, on 05/30/2008, -7/+279Dugg for the cloud goatse thumbnail.
- artofwot, on 05/30/2008, -2/+164Thank God for Valve... a developer that actually cares about PC gaming and doesn't treat us all like cirminals or something a console gamer found on the bottom of their shoe.
- Justin125, on 05/29/2008, -2/+147Great, another addition to Steam and how you can play your games anywhere.
- double051, on 05/30/2008, -4/+131OMG VALVE DOES IT AGAIN!
- Yeknom, on 05/30/2008, -3/+105It's official. Valve is the best developer/publisher ever to exist
- Shogi, on 05/30/2008, -5/+100This was a triumph.
- m4sterofmurd3r, on 05/30/2008, -14/+77Microsoft 0 - Valve 10,000,000
bet Microsoft wishes they took valves offer when they were shopping around for som1 else to make steam. - Futurejunior, on 05/30/2008, -2/+63You make that sound like a bad thing
- inactive, on 05/30/2008, -1/+44When Left 4 Dead comes out, Steam and Valve are going to get more praise
GO ZOMBIES - repick3, on 05/30/2008, -0/+40Hopefully it will let you keep your favorite servers when you log on a different computer. I hate not being able to find my favorite servers when I am at a friend's house.
- ambion, on 05/30/2008, -0/+39Maybe it's double sarcasm. You know, he's being sarcastic about being sarcastic because people on digg are a sarcastic bunch.
My brain hurts. - bfrank72, on 05/30/2008, -3/+42It's hard to overstate my satisfaction.
- inactive, on 05/30/2008, -3/+42NEED A DISPENSER HERE!!
- skeptic42, on 05/30/2008, -4/+41I think we're done here
- Shabow, on 05/30/2008, -4/+41I'm making a note here, huge success.
- MrM1yagi, on 05/30/2008, -0/+36It's great that Valve has not lost its hope in the PC market while other developers are jumping ship. With this, SteamWorks, and Left 4 Dead, it makes me excited to see what else Valve can do as a PC gamer.
- lacronicus, on 05/30/2008, -6/+39You do realize MS already working on this, and actually intends to release it on a much larger scale than just video games, right? Live mesh, which is already in beta, lets you do exactly this, with practically everything on a computer. In fact, just because I wanted to see if it would work, I'm currently sharing my CoD4 settings and saves across 2 computers, and could easily do more if I had another computer. Even before this, I used it to share my bookmarks, documents, and music over those two computers. By the time it's done, I'll be able to do the same with the 360 and Zune for music and movies.
Trust me, MS does a whole lot more than sit around delaying their operating system. - terminalpariah, on 05/30/2008, -2/+31Microsoft should do this on the 360 to add value to the Gold subscription.
- lacronicus, on 05/29/2008, -1/+26Just because it seems relevant to this particular subject, and cloud computing as a whole: For anyone in the Live Mesh beta, and all those who come after, the system could easily provide the ability to transfer saved games and configs, simply adding that folder to their mesh. Better yet, you could likely apply it to all of your games. Certainly, it's currently not nearly as integrated a platform, but it would definitely do the job if you wanted such functionality now. I mention this because in the comments section of the linked article, someone mentioned how Microsoft/Sony/Nintendo should implement something similar, but it seems MS at least is already planning to do so.
With all that, I think this is an excellent idea, and I hope to see it support more games in the future. - pablo0713, on 05/30/2008, -2/+26i hump valve
- dvsbastard, on 05/30/2008, -3/+21Godtse?
- Velnich, on 05/30/2008, -0/+17I get a MASSIVE HARD ON, every time I think of Left 4 Dead.
- D4rkDrago0n, on 05/30/2008, -1/+16Or they could actually give you guys a free online like everyone else seems to
- bluemist, on 05/30/2008, -3/+17It's been a while since I saw this meme.
- lamiaconfitor, on 05/30/2008, -0/+14you are such a tool.
- counterplex, on 05/30/2008, -0/+14Today we salute YOU, Steam maker and maintainer guy! Day in and day out you keep Steam going for millions of people around the world who don't know how much blood, sweat and tears go into this work. Late nights, early mornings (or, let's face it, mornings in general) and even lunch hours spent tweaking, adding features and generally kicking XBox Live's butt with a free service!
So sit back, Steam maker and maintainer guy, and pop open a can of diet coke, on us! - feanix, on 05/30/2008, -3/+16HUGE SUCCESS
- BuckFush, on 05/30/2008, -0/+13I love steam, it's one of a select few programs I let run at startup.
- SkiBoosh, on 05/30/2008, -1/+13Spy's sapping my saved games
- BugMeNot2, on 05/30/2008, -0/+11To me, DRM is fine as long as it doesn't affect my experience and as long as it isn't super restrictive (e.g., SecuRom, StarForce, etc.). With Steam, I think being able to play your games on any computer is a good trade-off for not being able to sell your games.
- DarkAlchemist, on 05/30/2008, -1/+12I wouldn't say the best, but they're definitely one of them.
- Locrian, on 05/30/2008, -1/+11LOL, I'm glad I read over the comments because I was about to mention the same thing: Godlike Goatse... ouch.
- mark076h, on 05/30/2008, -2/+12great idea
- Velnich, on 05/30/2008, -0/+9A different man EVERY TIME!
- ligyron, on 05/30/2008, -1/+10From God!
- zdiddy85, on 05/30/2008, -1/+10It's people like xmod3 that make me smile when there is a "block" button :)
- sirber, on 05/30/2008, -2/+11Goatse in the sky?
- vdog, on 05/30/2008, -1/+10The calender idea strikes me as odd, I really hope Steam doesn't doesn't become a bloated mess, suffocated by feature creep.
That being said, it would be nice if it supported other chat protocols via plugins. - bluemist, on 05/30/2008, -0/+9But it's still worth the wait.
Unlike Duke Nukem. - WernerCD, on 05/30/2008, -1/+10Buried for using "epic".
- joegibes, on 05/30/2008, -1/+9Yes, I scrolled up to check.
- Orion682, on 05/30/2008, -0/+8Yes, CLEARLY he's a MS shill. I mean, it's not like his own company is utterly destroying Microsoft's attempts at shoring up their position in the PC market. It's not like a free Steam service has made the notion of a subscription based Live account with MS on the PC sound laughable. They're not direct competitors in the PC arena at all! Right? Right?
Grow the ***** up you idiot. Congratulations on learning to use Google, but not liking the PS3 does not mean you work for MS. Sometimes a spade is just a ***** spade.
And good job at posting this garbage like 10 times. Obviously that makes you correct and everyone will listen to you now, instead of blocking and burying your retarded ass! - doshindude, on 05/30/2008, -0/+8RTFA, it's for portability. You don't need to use it if you dont want to worry about your precious CPU time with your 128MB of RAM.
- lacronicus, on 05/30/2008, -0/+8Seriously, wtf is Microsoft thinking? /sarcasm
https://www.mesh.com/Welcome/LearnMore.aspx
MS has quite a few tricks up its sleeve this time around, I wouldn't underestimate them. - bitterbug, on 05/30/2008, -0/+8Really? Whose?
- reknaps, on 05/30/2008, -0/+8Was posting at the bottom of this thread not good enough for you?
You had to reply to the first comment (which isn't related to your post at all) to try to derail the thread?
Blocked... - bluntphallus, on 05/30/2008, -0/+8With diamonds.
- feanix, on 05/30/2008, -2/+10I'm sure your savegames will be stored locally as well and only synced to the cloud when you're online. No need to panic.
- zdiddy85, on 05/30/2008, -0/+8you dont have any friends, do you? :(
i kid, i kid - WernerCD, on 05/30/2008, -1/+9I'm sure valve does what every other sync program does... syncs when you go BACK online?
