- Crass22, on 10/12/2007, -0/+26Its a feature.
- strikerK, on 10/12/2007, -4/+23thank you!!!
i really hate wireless... - Crass22, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18I agree with ROFLance, this is the worst thing ever. I hate having more options for doing things, make me think to hard.
*End Sarcasm* - saggygrandma, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Good news, I I just like to know that its running at the fastest and most reliable way, but wireless was the best choice for Nintendo to use on every console.
- GuyHitByTruck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9"..an extension chord.. to, you know, extend.. and stuff."
Truer words have never been spoken! - contradictator, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12That's really great, but some of us just don't WANT a wireless connection right now, especially those of us who don't have computers with WiFi cards, or who don't wanna buy a wireless router just to plug it into our wired router.
- HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7It's too bad that adapter is butt. I'm looking for a smaller one. Good find though.
He clearly has a Mitsubishi TV. Some of their HDTVs put up that message for no apparent reason at times. We have one at work that does that. It's saying that no video signal is present and if you don't switch inputs it's going to turn off in 1 minute. But then it doesn't. - HAKdragon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6And once you buy extra accessories and controllers for the 360, it'll cost more again. Don't get me wrong, I have a 360, but you can't say the Wii is more expensive than the 360 after you've added in extras.
- Polymira, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I live in a situation where my cable modem is in a different building then my bedroom/office (where my game consoles are located). SO, I have two WRT54G's setup with the dd-wrt firmware, running in WDS mode (bridged repeater). SO, i can connect wirelessly just fine via either access point, and if you plug any ethernet into either access point it works perfectly...
There is a microwave and 5 walls in between access points, never hiccups. - SonicPower, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3When ordering the adapter, remember to use PAYPALFREE in your Newegg cart for free shipping paying via Paypal. (up to $20, expires 12/15)
- saggygrandma, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9What if you dont want wireless, or have a microwave oven between your wii and the access point?
- student69, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Yes the Wii supports WPA 256bit
- virtualball, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It was a bad move for Nintendo to only include Wireless, a lot of people don't have wireless router and at the moment, are left out in the dark. Hell, I still have friends who use 56k and they will never be able to use it :P
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"it would make the Wii hackable from day one with the Phantasy Star exploit."
Yes! Finally I can stream gamecube ISOs to my Wii! Now all I have to do is rip them from my modded gamecube and buy a Wii. - OpCzar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah, Nintendo should have added that Ethernet port, just like the DVD player...
- theven7, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I'm glad it can be "founded" at newegg. My God, the internet is killing the English language.
- tavisjohn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I wonder how many other USB Ethernet adapters will work? I am sure that there are many that do not need special drivers.
- seinman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The "tube" part is the Wii's menu design. When you click on a channel, it makes it look like you're watching it on an older TV. When you click to start the channel, it goes back to the normal full screen display. It certainly isn't fake because of this.
- khellendros1984, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm not sure how useful the Wii's online capability would be over a 56k anyhow...they could still get a wireless router and use their PC to share its internet connection, and connect the Wii that way =)
- SuperCUBE, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Maybe we all don't have Wifi access because it's, I don't know, slower?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3"Not being able to perform as well does not make hardware inferior."
WTF do you think "inferior" means?!? - drjekelmrhyde, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You can use this wirelessly plus it cost less than the offical one
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16868996003 - khellendros1984, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Some of us transcend the wirelessness to find the inner beauty and freedom of wires....ooooooh, deeeep....(Either that or we like the lower latencies and greater reliability...but that doesn't sound as fun!)
- mdoom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I just picked up a WifiMax. Plugs into my desktop USB and creates an access point. Works great for getting the Wii online in the dorm room. Since we don't have any wireless access points near by. Works well for my DS as well, and when my friends come by with their laptops. I recommend it. It was a little shaky to get set up, but that was only because of poor instructions. But in the end, it ended up working!
- JeremyBanks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Everytime I've done that, it's broken within a few months.
- calebhawk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1cant wait for somebody to find a keyboard thats compatible... either that or nintendo releases a patch for usb keyboards to work...
- Jarasmen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yeah, because a nerd needs to have installed every piece of technology available?
- Simon80, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Not being able to perform as well does not make hardware inferior. Note that the Wii is much smaller, uses less power, generates less heat and noise, and is cheaper... clearly you just want to have your cake and eat it too.
- tavisjohn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That will work if you do not have a wireless router. However that will require you to leave a computer online as well.
If you have a wireless router, then that is the best way to go. I have a DS and I use it with my wireless router. I do not have to leave any computers running or anything! Everyone I know has a wireless router, so I can play at their houses online if I want to. - EtherGnat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"You call yourselves nerds and you don't even have a wifi access point set up?!"
I have four wi-fi access points in my house. I also have three ReplayTVs streaming video, torrents, print jobs, file transfers, and multiple computers all using my wireless. My Wii sits right next to my cable modem and primary router. I'd just assume use a wired connection to prevent congestion on the wireless.
Is that a nerdy enough reason for you? /asshat - dodgyd55, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ace, i hate wireless stuff. but what does he say when it wants to update his console?
- scotus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1bah, rather have the wireless built in and have them offer some sort of wired adapter than have to pay a $100 ransom to get the wii working wirelessly. you can get a wireless router for like $20 if you wait for a deal. it takes a second to hook up to your cable modem or dsl modem. so including wifi is a lot cheaper for the consumer than having no wifi.
no wifi is still the xbox 360's greatest fault. i wish the wii had ethernet built in however, and could bridge a wired connection like my squeezebox. - Voltorb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Technically you can probably get it for cheaper, however the only chipset that is confirmed working is the AX88772 chipset. At least I believe it's that chipset as I checked in the computer (Didn't install drivers yet) when I plugged it in. Theoretically if you can find any adapter with a AX88772 chipset in it it should work. Again I have yet to try any other USB Ethernet Adapters and some Nsiders have tried other USB Ethernet Adapters with no success.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2So what you're saying is that all we have to do is buy two wireless routers and all our problems are solved?
- NinjaBoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Now to buy them and resell them as Wii internet adapters for $40-$50 on ebay!
- trunkster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Doubt it. Either it would be too much trouble to get it to work or it would make the Wii hackable from day one with the Phantasy Star exploit.
- Voltorb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If you have any doubts of the video, you can check out the original thread which can be found here:
http://forums.nintendo.com/nintendo/board/message?board.id=internet&message.id=9095&view=by_date_ascending&page=1 - knyphe, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3"Just give them both to me for $20 total."
Great! I can do that, just add shipping for $60 and you can get it! - SporkRocker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Now with this usb adapter, once plugged into the wii could you plug it into your pc and use the internet that way?a
- TLAKABM, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1You could just install the right drivers to turn a USB port on your PC into network port and connect them with just a USB cable.
- LowenSoDium, on 10/12/2007, -7/+7Or, you can follow the instructions in this video and have a nice reliable wire connection that doesn't contend with your neighbors cordless phone or your microwave or any other device.
- myshoeshurt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"founded"? Jesus Christ.
- GoldYoshi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Why would they go ahead and build an Ethernet port into it, when they can just make yet another product that will probably be overpriced and EVERYONE who wants to play online will HAVE to buy it? (Obviously SSBB would need a little more than Wireless.) And we all know Nintendo good enough by now that they would just patch it in the firmware so that it doesn't use the adaptor, because that would make Nintendo loose money if they let people use their hardware the way they want to.
Basically I won't get this because Nintendo will go ahead and patch it in the next firmware update most likely. Or, if hacks come out, that hacked firmware will be installed too, and Nintendo won't be able to do anything about it. - walkingcrow, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2But will it work with Mario Kart in Lan mode? doesn't seem to work with the wireless
- xvertigox, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Loving how "doing drugs" is labeled as stupid...
- viewtiful4ever, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0maybe i'm just an idiot... but it looked a little fake to me, the screen went from wide to tube-like and vice versa, but idk...
- shockertwin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2wireless tends to be nice when you dont want to drill holes in all your walls.
this is a muh cheaper solution tan having ot buy a wireless router though. A simple hub and this could be a little less for some people. I guess if you get a brand new connection you will likely get a router/modem combination with wireless built in.
In terms of looks, how is this little thing when its popping out of your Wii though? - kiantech, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3okay seriously how much would it have cost nintendo to have one built in, $3 more a console?
And quick question my ds doesn't support WPA, does the wii? - shibz, on 10/12/2007, -9/+7for as much as it cost, Wii should have included a wired connection already... after you buy all the accessories and extra controllers wii costs more than xbox and still has inferior hardware even though it came out a full year later >.
