Exactly. as many have already pointed out: the eyes in this picture make the girl look as though she's dead.
It's kinda like the "Uncanny Valley" theory in social robotics, when an artificial object is very similar in appearance to a human we will fixate on the parts that make it look "not human" and this will generate a negative response in us.
stick with only a few anthropomorphic elements and people are sure to fixate on those few visual elements that remind us of ourselves and respond positively. - rohcky, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Those eyes are so unnatural and creepy. Needs more blood vessels.
- calebawilson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Damn, it even has slight imperfections in the skin. That is killer!
- davidkain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I thought exactly the same thing, g0nk.
Does something seem off with the chin, though?
Still, CGI is drastically better every time I see something new. - mrjeffery, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1She needs spectacles by the looks of things
- dggeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1hehe. I love when people are unimpressed by CGI when you can tell it's not a real person. I mean, c'mon. Lets see better from you then, mister critic.
- Xopl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I wouldn't call this unbelievable or cutting edge.
Maybe the guy isn't a professional or has old tools... then I'd say he did a heck of a job.
Kinda looks like Natalie Portman is what I thought, too. - rimco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Everyone says the eyes are slightly crooked, but when was the last time you saw someone with perfectly symmetrical features? I think he did a great job emulating the inherent imperfections in every face, though if you look closely, the eyelashes are identical for both eyes... meh.
- br0ken1128, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Probably one of the best I've seen, but still has the creepy dead look ..
And no it's not Natalie Portman's head. - carlvjack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't know why everyone says the eyes give it away, what makes something look CGI is sometimes it is TOO perfect. Ever look at your average person in real life? one eye is usually slightly higher or their lip is crooked, etc. Nobody is perfectly geometrically perfect.
- jpeckinp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0bad eyes but other than that looks good.
- JimmyDushku, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0lol natalie portman? nice job though.
- apache2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0she looks too sweaty and has too many ugly looking dots on her face, make a woman that is hot and then it'll be good
- Elxx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Apache2, you idiot, they were going for something REALISTIC. Not the stuff you see in your daddy's magazines.
- br0ken1128, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0JacobMarley .. you can make the argument that it is Natalie, but you'd be wrong.. it's a good rendering, no question about it.. but it's still obvious enough to be a rendering, I mean Natalie looks alive, this thing still looks dead.. it's impressive just the same.
- fleetskeet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Besides the blurry eyeballs and glossy skin, it looks awesome.
- kablam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i'd do her
- etruscan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's nicely done but yeah, I'm experiencing the same kind of uncanny valley effect here... dead eyes.
- odysseus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Looks *kind of* like a cross between Natalie Portman & Liv Tyler.
Dead eyes though. - surfing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wow, better than the pictures I can take with my camera phone.
- mikeazorin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Eh. The face is okay, but the shadows and lighting are pretty screwed up.
- Truegod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0very well done.
- Tonyisbad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0her eys gave it awa to me, no one has that perfect shade of white in their eyes, with no vains at all, not even a small cappillary. Plus reminds me of Natalie Portman
- rc_collins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0fake.
- iskatebad914, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0that sucks, i ***** better textures. DIGG
- rjmoon25, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Here eyes, they haunt my very soul......no wait that just gas from Taco Bell.
But darn good job, though I am concerned I may have nightmares. Save me Pepto Bismal, your my only hope. - a99tandem, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Flawed lighting.
- ybnormalman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0shasam, excellent work!
- Odweaver, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The eyes on that thing suck, they are too glassy.
- Zanza, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Holy *****! that's CGI?!? It looked like a real photo
- BlueStarr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Everything looks great except the eyes. I wonder if they did this on purpose.
- jla1987, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Amidala must be their favorite Star Wars character.
- Mushroonaut, on 07/11/2008, -0/+0skin texture and lips are frickin real.
Eyes are not.
great work though - p014k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@everyone: Indeed she does look like Natalie Portman, lol.
- sephiroth965, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wow very realistic subtle skin textures and rosy cheeks. But, the eyes are very unrealistic with no blood vessels and the left cheek is kind of awkward. It's good nothing about the image is too perfect looking. It'll be nice when they can render CGI animation this good.
- darque420, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'd throw it in there
- jbwillia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"PEOPLE PLEASE ACTUALLY READ COMMENTS BEFORE POSTING"
What, you expected them to read yours in order to interpret and follow through? lol - brian_hundt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I bet she can shag like a minx.
- GreenSlabOfClay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0When games start to take on this level of realism:
1. There will be a lot computers in the dumpster.
2. Bush will have to start a new war on computer game addiction.
3. Perversion will be taken to a whole new level.
4. add your own
I left the gaming world long ago, waiting for graphics to mature.
Kind of like the way Lord of the Rings was able to rival my own imagination.
Looks like it won't be long before I'll be following the white rabbit. - Combathangar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Its Un-beleivable all right...crappy sub surface diffusion (as in there aint any wortha darn), the eyes are very poor, and its 90% out of focus to try and FAKE being good.
Total crap for a still image. - beervolcano, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0her forehead looks like an orange peel... the eyes are wayyy off.. and what's with the head dress? Can't figure out how to do hair?
- Neme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The people who are criticising this make me laugh. It may have tiny little flaws, but it does not cease to be absolutely brilliant and amazing.
- apache2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Apache2, you idiot, they were going for something REALISTIC. Not the stuff you see in your daddy's magazines."
Oh sure sure. are you implying that women in playboy, maxim or FHM are 'fake' ? :P
...*****.. I will not tolerate your hinderance - kronzdigg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Lips are perfect.
