- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18This is purely for educational use but it is from the GameInformer article:
"at their best , video games are about immersion . players shouldnt feel like they are observing the action onscreen, they should be figuratively transported into a different world.
your avitar's life should become your life , and its adventures should be your adventure. the controller in a player's hands should transcend its role as a mere interface device; it should become the weapon that you see onscreen .most games try to push immersion with better graphics, more intense action , or overwhelming sound. but one upcoming console is doing something different , trying a new way to make that controller in your hand become something more. that console is the nintendo revolution.
with the unveiling of the revolution's motion based controller, most gamers envisioned the kaleidoscope of unique ideas that nintendo would use it for. but while the gaming public was preoccupied with demos of cooking and fishing games, one developer asked itself the question of how the revolution could be used to take a familiar genre to the next level.this company wanted to figure out how to use its unique controller not to develop an entirely new type of game, but to elevate an already-popular style. that company is ubisoft, and the answer to its self-imposed challenge is the revolution launch title known as red steel.
thats the first part of it..i type slow..
it is highly unusual for a company like nintendo to allow the axclusive first look at one of its consoles through a 3rd party game like red steel.but as it turns out , nintendo has been closely involved in the development of this game, and has great confidence that it is a perfect way to introduce the world to revolution . developed by ubisoft paris , one of the publishers oldest and most experienced teams , red steel is a mixture of old and new: a fps that that uses the revolutions controller for aiming - and much more. while nintendo obviously has several games in development for the revolution launch , the company simply doesnt make games like red steel , so letting a respected publisher like ubisoft introduce the revolution through an easy -to - understand game type allows both companies to demonstrate what they do best .." - doctornkul, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17How can it have starforce if it's for the revolution?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Screens:
http://www.joystiq.com/2006/04/07/red-steel-first-revolution-screens-revealed/ - HAKdragon, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14Except there is no Starforce for console games...
- bigangryguy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13@foolfromhell: How would Starforce be an issue here? It's a Windows application (basically a device driver, really) that installs itself to access ring 0 of the kernel. Starforce as we know it has nothing to with consoles. Second, I doubt the Revolution or any other console would allow a third-party application to install itself to whatever writeable, non-volatile media the console may have. Meaning, Starforce wouldn't install, and neither would any CD emulators that it would be looking for.
Now, if you're suggesting that people not buy that game because some Ubisoft PC titles used Starforce, then I'm OK with that. Starforce is evil, and needs to go very far away. - dudinatrix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Say it with me now, in unison....
"Hello, Nintendo. Welcome back. We missed you. We've saved your throne... please, right this way." - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14Dear Nintendo,
If I ever doubt you again, I give you permission to just shoot me.
Sincerely,
Tom Chipz - peregrine, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13Who ever said the Revolution would have bad graphics?
~ - patientx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11It does SPLIT-SCREEN , it has FREE MULTIPLAYER OVER INTERNET , it has SWORD FIGHTING , and BLOCKING WITH THE SWORD....
...nintendowned... - celebi23, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8MARIO, MARIO, MARIO, MARIO!!!! (SMB 3 commercial) Dude, nintendo is gonna own this new generation. Inexspensive system, unique controls, sign me up :)
- Dabellah, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11People are being retarded. IT'S FOR THE REVOLUTION! There is no Starforce behind it. O.o
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8If these are actual in-game screens, which by all accounts it appears they are, I completly take back every negative thing I've ever said about the Revolution and the possibility that it's graphics would not be even close to the Gamecube. This looks ***** awesome
- Cerberus047, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Wow... where to start... first i hope they dont screw it up......second the screens werent that bad... when they said it would be weak i was thinking like super smash brothers graphics (i dont know why) and i think im soo impressed with them is because i was expecting less....and thats not that the console is offering i know.. all i hope is that this game takes full advantage of everything!! and its one uberkickass game!!
- enforcerpsu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Every time I read articles like this it gets me more and more pumped for the revolution. I can't wait to try it.
- jpcoombs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Except when sony took the throne.....but ya, i think its a safe bet to say "Welcome back Nintendo. We missed you"
- daspot, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7when i first saw the screen shots i was like, take that Ps3 Xbox 360 and Nintendo bashers. now thinking about it makes me feel good inside that Nintendo can provide good graphics without making an expensive machine. they could also prove there point that tech specs really don't matter if each next gen console pushes the same graphics. whats going to matter, the games right. so if Nintendo gets lucky and a third party exclusive title especially designed for revolution. sells like 1 million in its first month i think more game companies will start developing some more exclusive content for the revolution. which is good gives Nintendo outsiders more of option to buy the system.
- jpcoombs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4what?
- VeganG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Nintendo never left in the first place.
- silverSurfer84, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Hello Mr. Sonicspeed08
Please go back to school. You may know English words but its obvious you dont know how to put a sentence together. - buss, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Wow, seriously! I've been so excited about the revolution despite thinking it wouldn't have good graphics, but this is just fantastic.
- mc1123, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5hmm.
maybe we can use that tv remote thing to swing the katana in the picture.
that would be pretty badass. - navster15, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5This is looking awesome. Perhaps we are finally going to see more details on the Rev in the coming months?
- daspot, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6copy and paste from Gonintendo.com -
Apparently you can also jump over and take cover behind objects by moving the rev’s remote towards a upturned table or a wall, and reload by pulling the remote back. Split-screen and online multiplayer planned!
thats pretty cool, hearing that makes me want to do that in my living room diving over the couch hiding behind a flipped up coffee table. that sounds hott, hope theres more games like this with intricate ways to use the controller. the revo is gonna be hott spaghetti, hope more people buy it, the other consoles are just like the sequels to GTA and Halo, they are just a bunch of rehashes and remakes of the same old games. - VSKBadCRC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Dude, you could have just said "Sony and/or Microsoft will probably steal the Revolution's controller concept and apply it to their consoles at some point because it's going to prove wildly successful.", instead you rambled, and ultimately made no sense whatsoever.
- thewise1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5beat me to it, chief
edit: even if it won't actually be on this title, I'm still not going to support the company because they use them for PC titles. - doit3d, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6So, you are saying that you will support a company who strives to distribute poorly coded DRM which is malicious in nature & compromises security on a PC? Granted, this is not a PC game, but by purchasing it you are supporting Ubisoft who is a staunch supporter of Starforce.
I will not support them. I do have morals. - SpacePirate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Here's the original source for the scans.
http://www.endangeredgamer.blogspot.com/ - jpcoombs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Revmote is standard, PS3mote and 360mote wont be.....no support....too little too late.....nuff said
- Zukunft, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yeah, it's called E3.
31 days/ 13 hours/ 13 minutes/ 5 seconds - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Reminds me of the graphics for Chronicles of Riddick on the Xbox. I would like to know about Co-op play for this system. The latest Xbox games could not include it because of too high of graphics. I wonder if the revolution could do split screen matches?
- JohnP, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If you think this is a light gun then you urgently need to go and read what the nintendo revo controller is.
Jesus, why comment if you dont even understand? - Psykus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Allknowledge, you can tell all of that from a photograph of a magazine that has printed screenshots of a game?
- Psykus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Wait, you're claiming your own story is a dupe, and you submitted both of them? I'm confused.
- w0rd, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9I love how multiple people on here saw the name ubisoft and automatically went to comment, "No way, Starforce blows!" Digg whoring. Maybe you should read the title. Or the Summary. Or maybe even the link. Its for the Revolution. The game console by Nintendo. I don't think a windows program called Starforce will be installed in the background on your Nintendo game console.
- thewise1, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7For those of you saying it's ok because it won't have starforce, I guess we need to ask ourselves... do we just boycott when it's inconvenient? Or do we really boycott for real?
If we want to make a statement, then we just don't buy their games. An attack on our fair use rights in one area is an attack on them all. - sporkwitch, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Exactly. Just because the console version doesn't have StarForce doesn't mean buy that instead. They could care less whether you buy it for PC or for console, as long as you buy it at all.
- Psykus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I read somewhere else that it's supposed to include split-screen and online (Nintendo WiFi Connection) mode, and it's entirely possible that there's a LAN mode as well, since the Revolution does have WiFi built in...ad-hoc WLAN party, w00t!
- Dgen_X, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3but a light gun that can also be used, by making a tossing or throwing motion, to throw a grenade
or wield a sword - awa64, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Translated from "Stupid git" to "Legible:
While Nintendo's new controller design is cool, and will get them some cool exclusive games, it is only a matter of time until Sony and Microsoft copy the design and use it for their own systems.
(Edit: Ah. Apparantly, this has already been done. My response, however, still stands.)
----------------------------
My response: They'd like to, but I'm not sure how well they'll be able to. Nintendo's been covering their asses with patents on this one to prevent something like that from happening. Could it still? Definitely. Will it? We'll see. Even if it does, the colossal price disparity between the systems could still give Nintendo the edge--after all, if this is enough of a "killer app" for Sony and Microsoft to copy it, it would still be a $30 add-on for already $400 systems competing with a $200 system that doesn't need the add-on. - Kujila, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Whenever I see the word Ubisoft I cringe and grit my teeth, although I hope for the sake of the players that it will be a nice title.
- debian_, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Just as a little note regarding Durrok's statement about resolution capabilities; the higher definition output of the PS3 and 360 will result in more system power being put toward the pixel pushing (for games thatn take advantage of it). In comparison, the 480p output of the Revo, while only a negative to those with HD TVs, will allow Nintendo (and third party developers) to put more of the system power towards things that really help detail (polygons visually, physics calculations immersivly, etc). Obviously not to say the PS3 and 360 arent packing enough under the hood to still beat Nintendo in this area, but it will afford Nintendo a great position as far as graphics capability on the hardware provided for the price sold. Go Ninny!
- analdisco, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Uh oh, Starforce for my Revolution? That's gonna be terrible! Now the malicious PHP scripts Nintendo will put in Virtual Console are sure to do me in!
- DragonQuester, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2looks like a cool game. (from what little we could see)
i totally agreee enforcerpsu - mbleigh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Does anyone else think it's funny that for the first time in (to my knowledge) video game history (excepting DDR and kin) there will probably be as many videos etc. of people _playing_ the game as there are of just the game graphics?
"Woah, did you see the way he moved the controller? Cool!" - eliomar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3*changing pants
thats is what we all were waiting to see all ******* year. - torrentado, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2* head aspl0des *
- CornStarch, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Amen.
Also I meant to say they're in a position to produce games much faster than M$ and $ony up there. - fantasticFlan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Sony!? You've mixed up your DRM fiascoes.
- pippintook, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I don't know about that, since we already know that Twilight Princess will have something extra involving the new controller I think sword weilding would be a good bet. Twilight Princess will (hopefully) be out by the time the Revolution is, so it may not really be the first...
- Durrok, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4It is not on par with them at all. However many developers are not using these systems to their full potential yet. As the years go on PS3 and 360 will be leaps and bounds ahead of the revolution graphically. Revolution is also supposed to do 480p while 360 and PS3 will at least be able to put out 780 and 1080i so they are pretty much beaten from the gates. THAT IS NOT THE POINT THOUGH. The point of the revolution is to provide a cheap, fun alternative to the other two competitors. Instead of trying to have a pissing contest with Sony an m$, they went a completely different route to accomplish what gaming is all about: Fun and innovation.
