- ZippyV, on 09/01/2008, -0/+56So why can't we buy Ubisoft's games from Steam in Europe?
- glaz, on 09/01/2008, -4/+59Are Americans on this website seriously upset that the head of a computer games company has suggested that their biggest market may now be Europe ? This actually makes you angry ? Forget the image of your country with Guantanmo Bay and George Bush, the gaming market has decreased by almost 5%!
It's amazing how critical of themselves Americans can be until someone OUTSIDE of their country actually makes the slighest suggestion that they may not be "Number 1" at something. - Thepack1138, on 09/01/2008, -4/+47$1= €.68 or €1=$1.463.
Thank you Bush. ='( - m3mn0n, on 09/01/2008, -1/+34Typical blogspam.

- synthaxx, on 09/01/2008, -0/+27Or could it have something to do with the fact that the prices here are way higher, without even taking the exchange rate into consideration?
Example: Metal Gear Solid 4 in Europe = 69 Euro (100,91$)
Same game in america: $49
It's just that with the current dollar prices the difference is way more noticable, but it's been this way since forever. - bmson, on 09/01/2008, -2/+29That is trying to make money.
- poet, on 09/01/2008, -0/+26More like thank you xe.com for those up-to-date exchange rates.
- mickhead, on 09/01/2008, -2/+24Hardly.
Europe has long suffered gaming wise. We're always last to get games, and everything always costs much more. This is just one company finally realising we'd like to be treated better. Theres nothing anti america about it. - kenplaysviola, on 09/01/2008, -0/+17Not completely, but dragging your country into war and wasting millions a day isn't helping. Oh yeah, and thank congress for approving budgets to continue funding the war and wasteful spending. So no, it's not completely Bush's fault.
- baldgye, on 09/01/2008, -3/+18I wish Sony would take this view... as Sony Europe seem to love screwing us over
- inactive, on 09/01/2008, -1/+14How true, Glaz.
- jacekpoplawski, on 09/01/2008, -2/+12hint: price of the dollar
- Darkaged, on 09/01/2008, -0/+10To be honest, we are still not as bad as Australia.

- inactive, on 09/01/2008, -4/+13we will not tolerate you guys dragging us down with you
- seavers, on 09/01/2008, -0/+9This isn't about treating europe better. It's about making more money per game. 64,99€ for a new game is 95$ US
- HolyChimp, on 09/01/2008, -0/+9@tacochampion: You're right... who's heard of devs like Rockstar North, Crytek, Traveller's Tales, Criterion, Ubisoft, Lionhead, Bizarre Creations, DICE, Rare or Codemasters putting out a decent game...
- Ionis, on 09/01/2008, -0/+8If he really believes this then I hope we can see some Ubisoft titles becoming available to Europeans on Steam, in the not too distant future. All of the friends I've spoken to have said there has been something on Steam that they just can't buy because Ubi doesn't branch off to other countries apart from the US.
- staticneuron, on 09/01/2008, -2/+10Blogphobia? How retarded can this get?
There are blogs that get exclusive stories. More power to them..... awesome. I love to read those. Then there are blogs that simply copy and paste from other sources (some don't even have the common grace to link to the originals. Those stories are called blogspam. They are unnecessary and steal hits from the original producers of the content.
There is no defense for blogspam. - Kelmon, on 09/01/2008, -0/+8Do some damned research next time. All of Europe uses the Euro with the exception of:
The United Kingdom
Sweden
Denmark
Norway
Czech Republic
Poland
Slovakia
Hungary
Romania
Bulgaria
Estonia
Latvia
Lithuania
Frankly, the list of countries that don't use it is only marginally smaller than the list of those that do. Slovakia, however, will join the Eurozone on 1st January 2009. - goblindegook, on 09/01/2008, -0/+7@tacochampion:
Criterion Games? Codemasters? Rare? Rockstar? Bizarre Creations? All British.
Factor 5? Crytek? Piranha Bytes? All German.
Ubisoft? Quantic Dream? Both French.
Guerrilla? Dutch.
GSC Game World? Ukrainian.
Funcom? Norwegian.
You? Moron. - inactive, on 09/01/2008, -0/+7Grand Theft Auto (GTA) is a sandbox style video game series created by Dave Jones and primarily developed by Scottish company Rockstar North (formerly DMA Design)

Xbox 360 in U.S. = $300
Xbox 360 in Europe = €300
80GB PS3 in U.S. = $400
80GB PS3 in Europe = €400
You do the math. - EndouOuto, on 09/01/2008, -3/+9Don't worry obama will fix everything
- xienze, on 09/01/2008, -0/+6You sure about that? I think gaming companies would take a much bigger hit than 15% if they stopped selling to North America.
- DavidGX, on 09/01/2008, -0/+6Damn I guess we'll have to bomb Ubisoft now.
You know... for freedom. - bmson, on 09/01/2008, -1/+7No...
Norway uses Norwegian Krona
Iceland uses Icelandic Krona
Denmark uses Danish Krona
Swiss uses swiss Franc
etc.
http://www.visiteurope.com/ccm/vacation/currency/? ... - gothicform, on 09/01/2008, -2/+8It's not just gaming either. Look at the gross of say Casino Royale. 10 years ago a third of a gross of a James Bond movie or more would come from the USA, these days it is little over a quarter. If you want to see that trend of a long period then look from Thunderball onwards. You'll see the relative American grosses have eroded over time.
It's not all bad news for the USA though. It makes it more and more likely Ubisoft will hire programmers in America than elsewhere as it becomes cheaper and most of you guys have English as your first language. I say most because obviously your president doesn't. - Turbojugend27, on 09/01/2008, -5/+10Who hasn't known this for ages? North America (yes including Canada) is only like 15% of the worldwide gaming market. So yes the US does not matter.
- tHeSiD, on 09/01/2008, -2/+7They are just worried that people are discovering more countries outside the US of A..
- Bozmanbeyond, on 09/01/2008, -5/+10***** the US dollar! Lets all convert to the Euros, that will show them.
- kingpowrie, on 09/01/2008, -0/+5goldeneye?
- Bowd99, on 09/01/2008, -0/+5Grand Theft Auto?
- tacochampion, on 09/01/2008, -0/+4Remember when SNES games were nearly that expensive?
I remember paying about $80 for Street Fighter 2 Turbo back in the mid 90s. - Tigergrape, on 09/01/2008, -6/+10Ubisoft are based in France.. which is ummm... EUROPE. Whats the big deal?
Please, don't give the whining Americans something else to be jealous at. They are still coming to terms with the fact that they are not the centre of the universe.
In terms of games - US gamers can never ever whine again, we Europeans will never forget the 6 month Rock Band wait, and it will be brough up in most "game release date" threads, all over the internet. - RetepNamenots, on 09/01/2008, -1/+5Exactly what I was going to say!
- sodoh, on 09/01/2008, -2/+6All of europe uses the Euro. Only the UK doesn't. I think it would be fairly representative of Europe.
- netgem21, on 09/01/2008, -0/+4Frankly, in my opinion, British games are much better quality than US ones. Burnout is way better than Need For Speed. GTA is way better than Saint's Row. The only decent games I can think of to come out of the USA is something like Call of Duty or Halo - and of course, Gears of War. Ubisoft's games are also brilliant - Assassin's Creed, the Tom Clancy games - they're great. Ubisoft is a top quality publisher and doesn't suffer from the arrogance and low quality of most EA titles.
- inactive, on 09/02/2008, -0/+3Typical response of someone upset.
Do you really think that the CEO of Ubisoft CAN'T COUNT where his money is coming from ? Why does anything that says that US is not number #1 ANYMORE at something has to generate angry reactions ? You have no reason to be upset. - Kelmon, on 09/01/2008, -0/+3YAY!!!!!!
Seriously, if it's not Pro Evolution Soccer, we've never heard of it. - RetepNamenots, on 09/01/2008, -1/+4You say "good"...
- Elranzer, on 09/02/2008, -0/+3There are some good blogs with original content, and there's spam which just copies and pastes text from other sites that adds NOTHING to the content, just to get some AdSense buxx.
Paraphrasing adds nothing of value. Adding your unwanted opinion to someone ELSE'S opinion adds nothing of value. Do some ***** journalism. - doshindude, on 09/01/2008, -3/+6provided he gets elected.(which is highly likely)
if McBush is elected, we're totally screwed. - inactive, on 09/01/2008, -1/+4No, it's spamphobia. GTFO
- Murdats, on 09/01/2008, -1/+4talking about another country in a fashion not related to bombing it, controlling it or dismissing it? sounds anti-american to me.
- Mier, on 09/01/2008, -1/+4Does the government control major businesses?
British Airways? British Rail? Nationalized Healthcare? BBC?
That's called Socialism. - cpsutcliffe, on 09/01/2008, -2/+5Assassin's Creed was their last good title I think.
- HolyChimp, on 09/01/2008, -0/+3That annoyed me, because Steam went to the effort of telling me it was selling for a reduced price, but then I couldn't actually buy it :'(
- executorzz, on 09/03/2008, -0/+2Actually the dollar has been rallying over the last 6 weeks now that europe is in danger of recession and economically weaker than the US.
