- duggtodeath, on 03/25/2008, -24/+1Don't forget the apostrophe and the 's' after Tom Clancy :(
- piper999, on 03/25/2008, -0/+23Its not his MMO. If you read the article you would know he just sold the rights to it. So....how's THAT for being pedantic?
- scrag10, on 03/25/2008, -1/+9I put on my Night Vision goggles and Swat Gear...
- penguinhunter, on 03/25/2008, -5/+37Honestly, I don't think I ever really disliked any Tom Clancy game in a long time. Makes me WANT this game even more!
- 3HackBug77, on 03/25/2008, -1/+7As much as i agree with liking Tom Clancy games... I can't see how a Tom Clancy MMO could work. I'm not counting it out, but Ubisoft needs to be creative here to make it work.
- MadOgre, on 03/25/2008, -1/+2Everyone is an Operator.
- bluesatin, on 03/25/2008, -1/+11Splinter Cell: Double Agent for the PC was one of THE worst games I've ever played, it was next to unplayable for me and all my friends...
It had next to no hardware compatibility, it didn't work with like the nVidia 6 series, or 8 series, let alone dual core processors, you were supposed to set the affinity to just one core, but the game would crash or hang as you tried to alt+tab back in. And don't even get me started on the broken core aspects of the game. You were supposed to be able to unlock new gear if you did well on a mission, they didn't fix that until after a month+ and 3 patches, as well as the fact that if you entered the pick locking mini-game on anything but the fastest movement speed, the mini game didn't respond to controls.
And why the hell do they still port x-box 360 games on to the PC and leave all the menus and everything with x-box 360 controls, like 'Press Start to close this screen' or whatever... I would say x-box 360 ports are by far the worst thing that's happened to PC gaming recently, I've had at least 3-4 games that were really bad and blatant ports of x-box 360 games ):
/rant over- bluesatin, on 03/25/2008, -0/+4On the bright side, I have loved every other game I've played with Tom Clancy's 'signature' as such on it, damn edit times ):
Can't wait for Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 co-op, all the more games with co-op the better! (And yes, I know it's not the good old rainbow six, it's something new and different under the same label to advantage of brand loyalty or whatever you call it, lame indeed)
- bluesatin, on 03/25/2008, -0/+4On the bright side, I have loved every other game I've played with Tom Clancy's 'signature' as such on it, damn edit times ):
- MindTrigger, on 03/25/2008, -2/+10How the hell can this be made into an MMO? What will lowbies do? Run out into the woods with an MP5 and shoot at rats?
- passedoutghost, on 03/25/2008, -0/+1So you actually like Rainbow Six Lockdown?
I'm really looking forward to End War. I saw a few trailers for it and you can control the units via voice command.
- 3HackBug77, on 03/25/2008, -1/+7As much as i agree with liking Tom Clancy games... I can't see how a Tom Clancy MMO could work. I'm not counting it out, but Ubisoft needs to be creative here to make it work.
- Topher06, on 03/25/2008, -16/+7Development costs could reach $50, with $49 million going to Tom Clancy. Sorry, you can't create an original MMO without that hack?
- newdigger, on 03/25/2008, -2/+12Have you ever even read any of his books? Not that new ***** thats just got his name on it....
idiots...- bigdoof, on 03/25/2008, -9/+0His books generally read like a first-person Jane's Guide, plus some Grisham-esque running around. Not exactly fine literature...
- faralen, on 03/25/2008, -1/+9Where does the other $999,950 go?
- ThreeDee912, on 03/25/2008, -2/+1I see what you did there...
- Murrabbit, on 03/25/2008, -0/+3Sadly the MMO market is very competitive - if your MMO isn't bringing a big-name license to the table then you can basically count yourself out of the race these days. Big franchises guarantee a certain user base and make the proposition of launching such a large investment as an MMO much less risky.
- MasterPlayer, on 03/25/2008, -0/+4Ubisoft just recently bought the rights to his name, so from now on they can name games after his books without having to pay royalties every time.
- snugglebear, on 03/25/2008, -1/+2I was about to say the same thing.
I just dread the time we will get "Tom Clancy's Adventures of Naruto" or "Tom Clancy's Crysis".- Planets, on 03/25/2008, -1/+2You mean like Clive Barker's Jericho?
Yeah.

- Christbait, on 03/25/2008, -3/+48Seriously, get a decent game engine that can actually animate models and let the player move properly before you do anything silly.
- etx313, on 03/25/2008, -2/+2Spot on, sir.

- Murrabbit, on 03/25/2008, -1/+31Wouldn't a Tom Clancy MMO be just a bit like a real-world war only with more CIA guys in the shadows strangling key civilians with piano wire?
- jeo77, on 03/25/2008, -1/+11Haha, that'd be pretty crazy. A giant battlefield but you never see anyone, they're always lurking in the shadows. Seems like its all quiet and deserted but its dangerous as hell
- merper, on 03/25/2008, -1/+3Like a Ninja MMO.
- MrFisty, on 03/25/2008, -0/+1I thought a Tom Clancy MMO would have you wandering around employing ghost writers.

- Fr00sh, on 03/25/2008, -1/+2Well, it said in the trailer that it would be released in 2007..
- bluesatin, on 03/25/2008, -1/+0If I'm not mistaken, the closest thing in development would probably be APB:

- d0onut, on 03/25/2008, -5/+5The raid on the White House will be great.
- nationalist, on 03/25/2008, -2/+2but what if the game is released after barack obama becomes president?
- d0onut, on 03/25/2008, -1/+1Seems I haven't thought it through. Wait, I got it. Obama is in a hostage sitaution and we have to save him.
- jerrycan, on 03/25/2008, -0/+0Getting Bush out of the white house will look like the final scene in the Movie Scar Face (The Pacino one).
- nationalist, on 03/25/2008, -2/+2but what if the game is released after barack obama becomes president?
- Jenovaside, on 03/25/2008, -1/+2Tom Clancy and Sid Meiers are the Donald Trumps of videogames. Why do they need to brand there name on everything they make?
- triskele, on 03/25/2008, -0/+2Well in Tom Clancy's case, it's to sell more books. I don't think Sid Meiers is an author, so I'm not too sure about the motivation there.
- Aharoni, on 03/25/2008, -1/+3Sid Meier began branding his name on games when games used to be created by one guy. He used to be known for quality flight simulator games and had quite a few fans. When he wanted to develop games of other genres they decided to brand the games with his name in order to make them appeal to his already existing fan base.
Much like other developers such as Will Wright and Peter Molyneux, he's quite an icon (probably the biggest icon of the game industry) so it makes a lot of sense to use his name when he's involved in a project. Its like Nintendo's seal of quality. Its just smart marketing.]
Tom Clancy is a whore, though. All the new books under his name weren't even written by him. - MT85, on 03/25/2008, -0/+1If I had to take a stab at a guess, I'd say because they make a ***** of money by doing it...
- Dumbledorito, on 03/25/2008, -1/+7http://www.crispygamer.com/comics/backward/2008-03 ...
It does make me wonder, would it be all-military or would they try to make a cloak-n-dagger aspect as well? - uziko, on 03/25/2008, -5/+1bad idea, gta mmo is needed
- ace429k, on 03/25/2008, -1/+1being a hooker would be a bad profession

- Murrabbit, on 03/25/2008, -0/+9Tango. The term is "Tango Down" as in, Whiskey Foxtrot Tango.
- CTK14A, on 03/25/2008, -1/+3Did you mean Whiskey Tango Foxtrot? Tango is 'T' in military alphabet code. Used in aviation as well.

- Peko, on 03/25/2008, -2/+3Yo La
- RSS14, on 03/25/2008, -0/+7This game would have a LOT of potential. Remember how is Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, you could be a Spy or Mercenary in MP? Now imagine playing MP, as a spy, a soldier, or a counter-terrorist. That could be just the tip of the iceberg.
- joegibes, on 03/25/2008, -0/+10I can see the Rainbows surgically infiltrating a building full of terrorists/bad guys, while Sam Fisher sneaks in through the vents and the Ghosts storm through the front doors, all intent on securing/capturing/completing the same objective. Oh yeah, and there's freaking World War III going on outside.
- damndj, on 03/25/2008, -0/+2They have the opportunity to do something really creative and innovative, or they can do something average that gets lost in the shuffle.
I wonder what it'll be.- colin8651, on 03/25/2008, -0/+250 Million dollars; They are putting the money on the line.
I also hope they do something creative and innovative, I would like the play an MMO without dragons and wizards.
No offense to WOW players.- merper, on 03/25/2008, -1/+3"I would like the play an MMO without dragons and wizards."
I think you're making too many presumptions about this game.
- merper, on 03/25/2008, -1/+3"I would like the play an MMO without dragons and wizards."
- colin8651, on 03/25/2008, -0/+250 Million dollars; They are putting the money on the line.
- newdigger, on 03/25/2008, -2/+14I love how most of you either have good or ignorantly bad things to say about TC's splinter cell... Do you people even know who Jack Ryan is? THATS real Clancy. An MMO based on the universe of Jack Ryan whould be amazing. The Cardinal In The Kremlin and The Hunt For Red October FTMFW!
- Dumbledorito, on 03/25/2008, -0/+1Steer clear of the Superbowl.
Which does bring up a "problem" with MMOs like this; what happens when you "fail?" Technically, "The Sum of All Fears" was a failure to halt the plot, but the climax came in Jack convincing the President not to go nuclear. It would be interesting if player achievements or lack thereof affected the actual game world.
For example, a spy mission failure in, say, Latveria opens up Latverian combat missions for those playing soldiers and what-not. - supertom2, on 03/25/2008, -1/+5Let's not forget John Clark
Without Remorse was the *****- insertAliasHere, on 03/25/2008, -0/+3Easily one of my personal favorites. Also Rainbow 6 (the book).
- colin8651, on 03/25/2008, -0/+2Without Remorse is coming to the big screen you know.
I don't see a listing of who is going to the play John on IMDB, but I hope they pick someone good and not a Ben Affleck type to just put butts in the seats.
http://imdb.com/title/tt0499097/
Who do you think should play John? - techobo, on 03/25/2008, -0/+1John Kelly/Clark is teh pwn.
- guyinjapan, on 03/25/2008, -2/+10Yeah, it shocks me that people these days know Clancy from his games, and not his books. I've played a few Clancy games, and they're good, don't get me wrong, but Clancy's real genius is in his books, and nothing else. The Hunt for Red October, Rainbow Six, Clear and Present Danger, Patriot Games - they're all classics. I remember staying up all night glued to the pages during middle school, pouring over these things. Say what you want, but I personally think it's sad how they've turned him into a video game franchise, even if it was his own doing. Some people don't even know he's an author these days... "Do you like Tom Clancy?" "***** yeah, GRAW rocks!" Please please please, pick up one of his books, people.

- Murrabbit, on 03/25/2008, -1/+2Cho Sung Hui made all his videos and photos on a Mac, did you know that? LIFE IS CRAZY ON A MAC!
- Kilometers, on 03/25/2008, -0/+1Source? Not that anyone cares. Also, looking at your post history, you've been trolling around the comment boards in every Pro-Mac, Anti-Window or OS related topic. Please go back to TUAW, or any Mac related site. Also, I've used Mac's and I've yet to see one successfully play TF2, Half Life 2, or any other worthwhile computer game, I can find a word processor, media player and web browser on my PC, thank you very much.

- Rileyper, on 03/25/2008, -0/+1did you know that Tom Clancy can't play his own games on a mac
- kevptim, on 03/25/2008, -0/+4The whole game is going to play like the original Ghost Recon and Rainbow 6: Raven Shield right? RIGHT?
Ah, what's the point. This is going another arcade shooter like Vegas on a massive scale. - stupidverizon, on 03/25/2008, -1/+1Everybody wants to be like Carlos...

- jakatan, on 03/25/2008, -0/+3If it's in Tom Clancy's universe this will be awesome.
However, it's going to be in Ubisoft's universe, since they just bought his name out... The Tom Clancy games have really gone downhill since Ubisoft picked them up. R6 was best when it was made by Red Storm. - nationalist, on 03/25/2008, -2/+1world of clancy

- CTK14A, on 03/25/2008, -0/+3I want civilian NPC's populating the game; while I enjoy them, combat-glorification games purposefully lack 'collateral damage' (save for the occasional hostage).
Ever notice there are no children in Grand Theft Auto?- JoeRW, on 03/25/2008, -0/+3I want civilian PC's - specifically I want large shopping complex terrorist attack which plays out over an hour, full physics, two main teams and random spawn inserts outside vs inside, but also a couple of civilian players as challenge in the mix with NPCs.
- JoeRW, on 03/25/2008, -1/+2Further to this, just in case anyone at Ubi reads english andalso reads this - yeah right. I want the terrorist team to take control of the shopping center with the goal of cracking the safe in the top of the tower building and escaping with the loot. The npcs could become hostages when the other team arrives (rushes) to the scene in helicopters and road vehicles to breach and save as many npcs as possible while removing the enemy. Civilian players can disguise by acting NPC and then act out heroically at the right time to become a John McClane type. All sweet graphics, lots of broken glass etc mayhem.
- CTK14A, on 03/25/2008, -1/+1http://www.wired.com/gaming/virtualworlds/news/200 ...
Apparently counterterrorism researchers are studying WoW to see how people react to terrorist events; a game like this would be an even better petri dish for their studies.

- MT85, on 03/25/2008, -1/+3GTA gets enough bad press as it is. Can you imagine how much worse it would be if you actually had the option of lobbing a molotov ***** at a pack of children? Jack Thompson would be making the media rounds with his uninformed, bigoted ***** for solid YEARS off of that.
- eazyyweeezy, on 03/25/2008, -1/+0that would be fun though! 100g achievement unlocked - kill 1000 children using molotov *****!
- noname500, on 03/25/2008, -1/+3There are no children in GTA because the general public would feel uneasy with you being able to kill little kids in every way imaginary. Jack Thompson's popularity would be on the rise again.....
- JoeRW, on 03/25/2008, -0/+3I want civilian PC's - specifically I want large shopping complex terrorist attack which plays out over an hour, full physics, two main teams and random spawn inserts outside vs inside, but also a couple of civilian players as challenge in the mix with NPCs.
- tchynerd, on 03/25/2008, -2/+3I'd play it as long as they keep it in the baddass-universe of the old Clancy books (Red Storm Rising, Sum of all fears, Rainbow six, ect). Please ubisoft don't ***** this up!
- Stormlor, on 03/25/2008, -2/+4If this is anything like Planetside then this game will blow WoW out of the water. I honestly can't wait to get into Beta.
- Hananda, on 03/25/2008, -1/+2Hell, they could just reskin Planetside and sell it to me, minus the BFR's and other game-ruining additions.
- FDDIcent, on 03/25/2008, -0/+1Didn't Planetside die because of a lack of players?
- Hananda, on 03/25/2008, -0/+2It's still running, but yeah, there's hardly anyone playing anymore.
- whyufail, on 03/25/2008, -1/+4Prepare for required grouping, buggy gameplay (brought to you by Ubisoft), and overly complicated and cumbersome grouping controls.

- Mikhail101, on 03/25/2008, -1/+2This is stupid, companies are just doing this ***** because MMOrpgs are in demand. Call of duty announced there doing this too, stop this ***** and do what u do best. It would be cool if there was an idea behind this but there isnt its just an annoucnement of an mmo game thats it, if they had expanded on something like those blue eyed multiplayer spys in Splinter Cell: DA then i would understand.
- Perk, on 03/25/2008, -0/+1What I'm hoping for is a "Red Storm Rising" MMO with most of Germany, Scandinavia, and Iceland recreated with correct terrain elevation and type, road placement, and urban areas (ala flight sim or WWII Online). Then we let people play as Soviet or American infantry, tankers, fighter pilots, sub captains, etc... and let WWIII commence.
- Koush, on 03/25/2008, -0/+2haha...imagine grouping with a bunch of your friends and start to raid another group or something...it would take you like 5 hours just to breach all the security and be in a position where you could kill :)..everyone loves that adrenline rushing action.
- Donoram, on 03/25/2008, -1/+2Jesus Christ Ubisoft! If I have to throw one more ***** flash bang into a group of friggin terrorists to send in my squadmates to...

- MadOgre, on 03/25/2008, -1/+8Oh ***** no....
Can you imagine mining for enough gold for an F-14 Tomcat or a 688 Class attack sub?- slightlygifted, on 03/29/2008, -0/+1at lvl 22 you unlock grenade mining which speeds up the process though.
- Narcism, on 03/25/2008, -3/+2Rogue Spear was decent when played multiplayer.. None of this splinter cell, etc etc garbage.

i really hope this is gonna be a great game, because it has potential. but... - illegalcortex, on 03/25/2008, -0/+2When I read the headline, I thought it was going to be a game based around the real life Clancy. Or that maybe you could choose "Tom Clancy" as a character class.
