US video game sales sink in June, biggest drop in 9 years

networkworld.com — Sales of video game hardware and software were down by around one-third in June compared to the same month last year, according to data released late Thursday. After initially showing positive growth as the U.S. slid into recession, the latest figures mark the fourth month of declines and the largest year-on-year decline in almost 9 years.

For some reason they kept releasing Big Name titles through the summer to great success, normally the summer months are the dead months. So it's obvious why sales are down from last year, excluding the 5 or 6 big named titles released in June the rest of the Summer looks to be a return to the dead months again.

    I still buy games all the time, but from XBLA, for $5-$15. Who has $60 for a new game, especially since you can just wait a month and get it for half price on eBay or Game Stop?
