- dualscreenman, on 10/12/2007, -8/+79To put this in perspective that's like the numbers of PS3 released. Every week.
- nihility, on 10/12/2007, -4/+38There's still a ton of demand in the US as it is.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+36WHAT!! How am I supposed to make a profit on ebay with all this supply nonsense. I have mouths to feed!!
- expertninja, on 10/12/2007, -0/+28Seriously, any and all future video game manufacturers should take notes. This is how you release a console.
- CadMasterAdam, on 10/12/2007, -2/+28man shall not live on ebay alone
- drlha, on 10/12/2007, -4/+29Because Nintendo hates Europe, I thought you already knew that?
- farfromsubtl, on 10/12/2007, -21/+45Which is why people shouldn't be paying double the price on ebay. You'll get one eventually. Extra controllers on the other hand... may be a different story.
- techforce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23I headed over to gamestop this morning, had a feeling they were sitting on some wiis. I showed up about 4:30 am. 1 dude was already there, had been since 12:00 (he was expecting the worst) So I ended up second in line. Almost everyone else that showed up was there for the wii. Only one guy was waiting for the PS3 (he was the butt of a lot our jokes, good humored, of course) When the employee finally strageled in at 10 minutes till 7 (they opened at 7), he informed us that they only had 2 wiis. Me and the first dude felt bad for the people behind us, but not bad enough to give them our spot. (They had no PS3's, BTW) So since about 8 this morning I have been playing Zelda non-stop. Sure, the graphics may not look like an SLI gaming rig, but it sure is a hell of a lot of fun.
- Klarth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21You do know the controller is motion-sensitive, right?
No, I'm seriously pondering your competency here. - Helicobacter, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20Weren't there supposed to be 4 million Wii units until the end of 2006?
I think the demand is a multiple larger than the planned supply... - farfromsubtl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17'cause it has been less than a week since launch!
- Klisk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17I guess I wasted 25 hours camping outside of Best Buy.
Or maybe not, the line was so much fun, what with DS connections and all, that I don't think you could find that many cool people at a LAN party. None of the people on our line planned to (or admitted to, at least) flipping the thing on ebay. - drlha, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Cadmaster: Way to miss the point completely. I can't believe you believe that Nintendo's innovation with the Wii is purely to fund the next console to be a graphic monster clone of the PS4. Nintendo have decided that consoles are about gameplay and not hyper realistic graphics. Sure their next console will be more powerful than the Wii, but I seriously doubt they're ever going to go for the penis size competition PS2 and Xbox enjoy any more.
- raabco, on 10/12/2007, -6/+18You could be dugg down for a myriad of reasons. The fact that they're only selling for around $100 profit on eBay currently, not twice the price. Or maybe it's the fact that controllers and nunchucks are readily available (at least in my area). Component cables on the other hand....
- Rikkochet, on 10/12/2007, -5/+15You stood around outside for hours on the suspicion you might get a Wii?
Damn dude, you're the most hardcore guy in the thread. - chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13To put this in perspective it's not like they are shipping PS3s.
I know we all hate the evil Sony or whatever but it's not even the same thing. - Bob042, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10And they'll still fly off shelves. People were still camping before midnight here for the second shipment, and it sold out instantly like the first. I'm hoping some come in Sunday.
- Ashkc88, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11@Diggemz
Yeah, its pretty sad the Wii (Gamecube 1.5 to PS3 fans) is getting better ratings and sales than the ever so fast and beautiful PS3 (or 360). How can people be so ignorant to post comments like this? - pureliquidhw, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9what wii bashing? those idiots were silenced when the wii was launched.
- Rhine23, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Dude same story for me I waited for two hours outside and the guy shows up 30 minutes before the opening and tells us there was only 3 units at the store and that was the average in our area. Huge disappointment because I was number 8 >.
- Ashkc88, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8@Rikkochet
Let alone on BlackFriday, every store in my area had a line of atleast 200-300 people literally wrapping around each and every store...and that was this morning at 4:30 as well. - Optimus, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11Article states North America would be getting that many, not the US alone.
- elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -12/+16I did down anybody who goes "Why am I being dugg down! I had a valid point!"
Yeah, maybe you DID have a valid point, even if you did, it didn't contribute to the conversation and it was completely irrelevant to the comment that you were replying to. There's an abundance of reasons why you were 'dugg down'
Me? I dugg you down for stupidity. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I waited at Target for 6 hours on the 19th to find out that I was #31 in line and they only had 30 units. I waited outside a KB Toys for 3 hours only to find out they they weren't going to get the Wii at all this year.
I got one on eBay for $349 and I don't feel too bad about spending a premium to get something that is in high demand. - jeremychoi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@artic
Get a sense of humor - somnus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Have you heard of Child's Play? They do an amazing job of fundraising for Children's Hospitals all over the continent. I'm not bashing your good intentions, but if you're affiliated with them you'll likely raise more funds than going it alone.
- nytechy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5If Nintendo is shipping 150,000-200,000 Wiis per week, why doesn't any of the stores have them in stock. I went to Bestbuy, Circuit City, Target, Walmart, and Gamestop today and none had them and didn't know when they will. : |
- flickr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I know what you mean, I was in the electronic section of our local department store for only five minutes last night and about 6 guys came by inquiring about when more Nintendos were going to be delivered.
- nanboya, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Picked one up this morning at the local Best Buy; got there an hour before opening and managed to snag number 35 out of the 41 units they had; unfortunately, no 2nd set of controllers or component cables available...
- interiot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Are we going to be able to get extra nunchucks sometime before christmas? Or component cables? I'd like to evangelize the Wii with party games, but I can't play half of the Super Monkeyball games because they require an extra nunchuck...
- iAmGeek, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@Kodek
Wow, your math was worse than his. He said 190k where he should have said 180k. He was doing quick math where you didn't even bother to notice he said for the USA. Gah.... I could go on such a rant.
Nintendo is seriously lacking in the Nunchuk shipment department in my area. Hopefully they send more than enough nunchuks. - pantload, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I was going to meet a coworker this morning at one of the Best Buys around here, which were opening at 5am, but when I got there at 3am, there were 300-400 people in line, wrapping around the outside of the building. I went to another BB and saw the same thing. I was about to give up, and looked over at Gamestop down the road and saw several cars, then looked over at an EB location further down the road and saw one car. I decided to stop, and a kid jumped out of that car and ran up to the door. I called my coworker and he decided to stay at the original BB because he wanted other stuff they had. The kid, his brother and dad and I hung out at EB, and an employee came in and did a few things and left, and told us "we were doing the right thing", but no further info. We stayed and the core group grew to 6 people, then at 6:45am the sole employee working this morning came in, got set up, and right before 7am came out and took the first 6 names buying Wiis (which is all any of these people wanted), and let the first 3 in and then locked the door back. We made our purchases (no extra nunchucks to be had), and he brought in the next 3, then told everyone else that was it, they only had 6. I found out later that the Best Buy my coworker went to had NONE at all. I feel lucky, and I've been playing Zelda all day.
- ipodman715, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I scanned this weeks BB ad:
http://img143.imageshack.us/img143/6661/wiibbadnov26rm6.jpg - CadMasterAdam, on 10/12/2007, -8/+10Canada Should get about 10% of that. so 140-190K for USA
- elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Wii bashing?
All I heard about the Wii for the six months prior to the launch was "OMG OMG OMG NINTENDO!!" - trubbleshute, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2They weren't allocated to Europe because the US has more disposable income, generally speaking. When the Wii comes down in price I'll end up buying one for my parents, sister, in-laws, et cetera. I'll even donate one to my grandmother's nursing home.
They are really just that good. The commercials are what is capturing people's minds, my mother saw Al Roker and said "that looks fun" -- proof positive in my opinion that Nintendo has a winner on their hands. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2There's also a "ton of demand" in Europe too. Not to worry though, I have mine preordered with Gameplay - guaranteed to be delivered to my home on the day of release (with Wii Play! :p) - no queueing, no going out in the cold.
- Nodren, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4you obviously havnt been reading digg or visiting any sort of geek site, just about every geek out there is in love with the wii.
- ipodman715, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Damn, I hope I get mine on Sunday at Best Buy.
- ggoyal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yes, but you have to grant Sony the fact that they had to create new facilities for manufacture of even the components of PS3.
Wii on the other hand, could be made from stock components, or with a minor retooling on existing lines.
I dont care about who wins - I am not getting any new console for the next 6 months. But I know how hard it is to set up new production lines and manage logistics. In case of Sony, its a case of classic project management failure. In fact a failure of management on every level. I guess we can be spared teaching Japanese fads in every class of management.
But still, after all this, it might just become a success in a few years, and we will be taught how the great long-term strategy of Sony worked. - iAmGeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1For some reason I don't think Nintendo would agree with you there.
Just like it's not the Nintendo Wii, it is the Wii. On one hand I like this, on the other, I think it will bite them in the ass. Who knows. - twtmc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Nintendo doesn't hate europe nearly as much as sony does, but sony hates everyone. Really, I think this is just the US, as a nation, getting back at europe (mainly england) for the crap when they were a colony. I know it was what seems like a long time ago, but its pretty well true.
- madformadness, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you were shopping in chicago for a wii today, you you probably did'nt get one, i went compusa, bestbuy, circut city and target and no stores got their 2nd shipment. I hope they get them, sat or sunday.
- scispaz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1All the stores were stockpiling what they could for Black Friday. I went around stores on Wednesday and found out the shipments came in Tuesday and Wednesday everywhere, but that the stores forbid their employees from selling the game until Friday morning when there would be enormous lines anyway.
(Extra thanks to the gamestop guy who told me what was up. I am sure he was pissed about getting asked all the time about consoles he had but couldn't sell. And the fact he had to be up to sell them at dawn 2 days later.) - Lieske, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Is there any way to find out which stores are getting the most and when they're shipments come in?
- kodek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I meant to say 10% will not deal 190K. Just replace the "10%" in my comment with "90%". I still deserve to be dugg down for being picky and screwing up myself.
- iAmGeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Technically, it's still the first week for the Wii, correct? So I'm sure most of the consoles will all come in next week. Just so you all know, consoles almost never ship on weekends.(There are rare ocassions and a few exceptions.) They usual come on the trucks somewhere between Monday and Thursday after close or early in the morning sometime before open.
- Crazychipmunk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yea, the digg community needs to find out where most of the wii's are going too, and then have everyone go there to get one. I assume it would be a walmart or target like department store.
Here's my wii story:
I went to my local EB games about last week, and was told they were going to have 20-24 wii's in stock. So, naturally, being the loser I am, I get in line yesterday lined up outside EB games. I was #7 in line. We watched in wait as the guy working there opened the door to come out and tell us something. That something was that they only had 6 wii's. And it also magically turns out that all 6 people in front of me were buying wii's. It sucked, but you always meet nice people in black friday lines(well, not always, but yea). We even had one guy play eye of the tiger right before the store opened. - KidAirbag, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Is it pretty much a fact that Best Buy is going to have them on Sunday?
A few days ago I called Best Buy and asked the dude if he knew when they were getting more in. He said "I have no idea but if I were you I would come in Sunday.", which seemed like a pretty weird answer but I've been reading everywhere that people are being told to go to Best Buy on Sunday.
I don't have a car so I'll have to take the bus, the earliest of which is 8:30. Best Buy opens at 9. Therefore in order for my day to go well, the following things have to happen...
A. Best Buy has Wiis in stock that they plan on selling Sunday.
and
B. People with cars aren't in on the secret so they are at home sleeping in and not in line ready to take my Wii!! - masonba2000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"We even had one guy play eye of the tiger right before the store opened."
When I went to walmart at 4 in the morning on black friday they should have been playing a requiem, because I didn't get one. -
