2000 Wii points will be roughly $24 Canadian. - Wiinii, on 10/12/2007, -27/+12$250 + $60 for 2nd controller + ? for Opera browser + Game and I am forced with White console (knowing that the black will come out a few months later like DS)
Almost bought a XBOX 360... but with GameCube graphics.
I'm not going to lie, I am a bit let down. - Klisk, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10It's up for me.
- chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -28/+5the games are a rip-off.
There not even HD. There just repackaged gamecube games. - Harabeck, on 10/12/2007, -17/+5Hey, use your head before digging down, the link wasn't working when this was submitted. The url was known so the submitter put it up before the site came up.
- diggywiggit, on 10/12/2007, -13/+8I was just about to say
"This is the reason why I've quit being a PS3 fanboy because just look at that thing, its F sexy"
Until I saw the part where they didnt include the other controller, the price and the games - Wiinii, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14What Nintendo marketing genius decided to release it 2 days AFTER the PS3?
- Wiinii, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2AHHHH!
http://images.amazon.com/images/G/01/videogames/detail-page/revolution-1-lg.jpg - timdorr, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11"$250 + $60 for 2nd controller + ? for Opera browser + Game and I am forced with White console (knowing that the black will come out a few months later like DS)"
Huh? It's $40 for the 2nd controller. Do you really need Opera? And it comes with a game (several, in fact), so you don't need to tack that on to the cost.
$250 gets you playing out of the box. $290 gets you playing with a friend.
Also, consider the fact that people were thinking $200 without the included game. So, it would have been $250 anyways to buy an extra game. Even though this is forcing one on you, it's not like we're losing any of the value we were expecting.
I'm preordering mine as soon as possible. - cmw72, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9"What Nintendo marketing genius decided to release it 2 days AFTER the PS3?"
No really ... it's brilliant...
Dude hears the PS3 is out ... goes to the store ... realizes he won't be able to buy one until next year sometime, then sees that he can buy a Wii now and save three-hundred dollars (more actually, when you realize that the only people who are going to get a PS3 for x-mas this year are the ones who are going to spend $900 for on eBay).
- Wiinii, on 10/12/2007, -3/+48Wii for $250
- opnickc, on 10/12/2007, -2/+25For those who haven't heard:
US Launch info:
November 19th
$249.99
Comes with 1 controller, 1 nunchuck, and Wii Sports
LoZ:TP Launch title, gamecube version has been delayed.
Metroid Prime 3 now slated for 2007
Opera web browser included
30 games by the end of the year
30 Virtual Console games by the end of the year- farfromsubtl, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19Opera is NOT included... you must use "Wii Points" (which you have to buy) to download the browser.
- CAvenger, on 10/12/2007, -6/+28One controller takes the "We" out of Wii and just makes it a Mii. I don't like this at all.
- deeek, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2I don't think the Gamecube version of LoZ:TP has been delayed as much as that Nintendo wants people to purchase the Wii version and therefore a Wii as well. ;-)
- Klisk, on 10/12/2007, -23/+2Wronnnnnnnnnnnnnnng. It isn't true unless Nintendo says it.
At Nintendo Japan's press conference, the Wii was marked at $210 in US dollars. I'm still betting on a 199 price. The NYT is not trust worthy, have you ever read page 6? Hah. - j.carcinogen, on 10/12/2007, -13/+33Am I the only one that thinks $249.99 is a little high for the Wii?
- ImpactedColon, on 10/12/2007, -18/+9"One controller takes the "We" out of Wii and just makes it a Mii. I don't like this at all."
Quoted for truth. Disappointed. - ReBeLaCe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I think its a lil pricey but worth it when I think of how much fun I am gonna have with my friends and family playing it. This will bring gaming back to the whole family.
- thewebguy, on 10/12/2007, -13/+8"One controller takes the "We" out of Wii and just makes it a Mii. I don't like this at all."
well considering the fact that nintendo's official controllers have historically been the cheapest available i think you can stop your crying. at $249 (whether it is true or not) why would you expect 2 controllers?
"Am I the only one that thinks $249.99 is a little high for the Wii?"
yes, you are. go buy PSP or something. - Klisk, on 10/12/2007, -12/+5@j.carcinogen - Nope, you're not. I'm still thinking the NYT were wrong. 250 just seems rediculous. It's either that, or there will be a 199 barebones bundle without Wii Sports.
- mc4_a, on 10/12/2007, -9/+6j.carcinogen
I agree. Funny, it's only $50 difference, but it makes me consider going with an x-box 360 instead. Ah well, when we get a final confirmation on the price and see the games in action then we can make a better decision. - Butros, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3This compliments an xbox 360 if anything. You have to compare it with the 400 dollar xbox as well not the 300 dollar core (you need the hard drive for the 360 to use live, which is a big part of the 360 experience, and the wireless controller is important as well). Besides the 360's been out for a year, no one has seriously been waiting this long to purchase one because they want to see how the wii turns out.
- Skov2, on 10/12/2007, -11/+4works.
- motang, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2Most of links are working yet, but I am pretty sure when the event is over everything should be in working order.
- mrdctaylor, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Sooo pumped. I wish the price were lower, but I would've bought Wii Sports anyway, so it was basically a wash for me. $60 for an controller ($40 Wiimote, $20 nunchuck) is pretty steep though! Still...it will be my next gen console. I can't wait to see how it will interact with my DS.
- Foor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+28It was $50 for a 360 controller and that has half the tech the Wiimote has.
- ImpactedColon, on 10/12/2007, -14/+4But you can buy a knockoff 360 controller from another manufacturer for a LOT cheaper.
- tomhutchinson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23Yeah, a knockoff. Have you ever used a MadCatz controller? They always feel really cheap and flimsy. I don't think 60 dollars is really that bad for a controller that can do so much.
- thewebguy, on 10/12/2007, -11/+3i believe gamecube controllers were 19.99 at launch, and wavebirds were 24.99 or 29.99 at launch. even back then this was unheard of.
- Klisk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15The wavebirds didn't even exist at launch... Not that I remember, at least. Wavebirds were created later on in the Gamecube's existance.
- Butros, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Wavebirds were 40, you could get them cheaper at target sometimes (like 34.99). I know because we were having a LAN party one night, someone bought over a gamecube with one controller, and we were all like "NEED MORE CONTROLLERS NOOOOOOOOW". I think it was all the mountain dew we drank, memories...
- UGM2099, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20Let me just preorder this thing so I can relax!
- gamerscalling, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3I agree, I want to get my preorder over with. I know what I want and I do not want to have to keep looking for the preorder.
- CAvenger, on 10/12/2007, -12/+5fye has been accepting preorders for a while.
- CAvenger, on 10/12/2007, -12/+2Or, you can just -digg me until nobody knows where you can preorder the Wii. That's a novel idea!
- gamerscalling, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Glad I did not take your advice now after the issues FYE had. Got mine anyways from Wal-mart.
- Stwo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23nintendo is a strange company
- Klisk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Website is kind of plain, but cool none the less. Hope they add more content/information after the US conference or something.
- diggywiggit, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Less is more. Its the new 'in'. KISS.
- ahhell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Holy ***** that looks awesome.
*sigh* There goes $300. Wii and Zelda here I come.
(TG-16 games FTW!!) - mywhitenoise, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12what a letdown.
Higher than expected price.
Due out later than expected.
No second controller...which will add an extra $60 to the $250.
and $310 isn't bad, I can afford that. It's just that Nintendo is taking advantage of the hype and selling it a lot higher than expected because now they know it will sell.- disruptor108, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8It's only a letdown if you read every single rumor and story that went around the web since E3.
-They announced that the system would be released Q4 2006, which November 19th is pretty much dead center of Q4 2006.
-All along Nintendo has said that the system would cost $250 or less, they didn't disappoint with that. The system costs $250 - Eccohawk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I am amazed how so many think this is a 'let down'. Seriously...all the other recent systems were a lot more expensive for less. The 360 sold for 400 for it's full version right out of the gate and didn't come with any games, and only one controller if i remember. the ps3 is slated to sell with no games and 1 controller for 600 dollars. The Wii at 249 with a game is not a bad price at all. Also, the price points for the games themselves are cheaper than the 360's $60 price point on most games. If you add it up, for the price of the Wii, two remotes, two nunchuks, and 7! games (5-in-1 in Wii Sports) will cost you the same as just the 360 alone without any games at all. not to mention that you could only get 2/3rds of a ps3 system for the same 400 bucks. The price seems just fine to me.
Second, the rumors about when it was expected out have been flying around for months now. The fact you put credit to them without waiting to hear the final verdict shows exactly why you likely think this a let down. They've had a launch at or near Thanksgiving for every system they've had, this is nothing new.
Thirdly, they've got 30 titles at or extremely near launch date. No other system in history that I can remember has had that many. I think overall this is a great thing. - Stwo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You can thank Sony for Nintendo pulling off a higher price than expected... seems like nothing compared to a $600 price tag
- disruptor108, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8It's only a letdown if you read every single rumor and story that went around the web since E3.
- Vash382, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Amazon is already showing retail packaging that indicates Wii sports is included -- leading me to believe the packaging is a legit photo...
http://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Wii/dp/B0009VXBAQ/sr=8-26/qid=1158248366/ref=sr_1_26/102-3595134-4340915?ie=UTF8&s=videogames - HenryFatass, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Hmmm...Wii.com is blocked by Websense in the "Non-Traditional Religions and Occult and Folklore" category.
Someone at websense doesn't like Nintendo fanboys... - jrizzo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5I don't know why everyone is complaining about the price, it is still better/more fun than the other two consoles, and cheaper to boot. Frankly, if you think the price is too high, blame Sony - they started the idea of ripping people off.
-j/k I hope the PS3 will still kick ass despite the current setbacks. But if it really isn't coming out until march, then I'm getting a Wii. Screw Sony if they cannot get it out for the holidays. Its like they are taking advice from Microsoft's Vista team or something... - BiGSexY420, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Damn now i cant wait to get one. The whole spinning earth sold it for me. That ***** was fresh as *****.
- ek3s, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12There better be a digg channel for my Wii.
- bleonard, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Does anyone know if a wavebird controller will work with the Wii? It has ports for the Gamecube controllers, but its always possible that it will only work w/the wired ones.
- Butros, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2You ***** me? I don't have to pitch my gamecube controllers? rawk! Can I play SNES titles with them?
- Slinker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Gamecube controllers (including wavebird) will work with the wii. They won't work for virtual console or wii games.
- imnotquitesure, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2Everyone said there was one more big hardware secret with the controller. The secret must be that it is made of gold, because $60 for the full controller set up seems steeper than I expected. I was thinking like half of that for the remote/nunchuk combo.
- HenryFatass, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Dude...are you on drugs? $30 for THAT controller? It's the most revolutionary change in controller history since the introduction of the ***** joystick. I agree $60 is kinda steep...but I sure as hell didn't assume it would be cheaper than a wireless 360 controller...
- ElectricGrandpa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Ok perhaps you guys didn't get it... It's $40 for the remote, $20 for the nunchuk. The remote has motion sensing. The nunchuck has motion sensing. It's not just a little plug-in thing, and you won't need it for every game.
- jaiwithani, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Besides Wii Sports, is anyone seeing any good party games in the early linup? Strikers, maybe...I'd hoped that Wii would be promoted as more of a multiplayer, social experience - gamers and non-gamers swinging together. Don't get me wrong, the single-player games look great, but I want something I can waste a Friday night with friends on.
- CDHarrisUSF, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Super Monkey Ball would be my choice.
- ASSASSYN, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3Nothing can touch xbox-live. But, this sure beats the hell out of PS3 on-line.
- saudama, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Finally, some confirmed information about the features along with images and videos from Nintendo about the Wii.
To be honest, I was hoping for an earlier launch date, but now that I know it, it's all good. - darkpulsaromega, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The price of the nunchuck attachment seems too expensive. $20 for an analog stick, two buttons, and three accelerometers. That said, the price of the Wiimote seems right on, if not cheaper than I expected.
- Megatog615, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Anyone got the videos in another format? I'm on Linux right now and you have to have Flash >7 in order to view the videos.
- lxplicit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't get why some people think $250 is a lil too high, its the same price as the 8GB iPod Nano.
2 Months, 5 days until I get my Wii! - AllenHSmilden, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Any cheaper than $250 bucks and I would be wondering where they skimped. Because Nintendo is giving a lot for that price. Any cheaper and I would be wondering wether they used quality parts or not. Seriously people there is a fantasy land and there is reality. reality does not support a quality machine under $250. Seriously think about what your getting. The hardware, the software, online content that obviously cost money to make. The servers to hold it. Its just unrealistic to think that they would charge so low and provide all of this stuff. It does not make sense business wise. There would be no room for profit. If you don't make a profit you can't improve your products. Don't use Microsoft as an example they make profit elsewhere and dump it on their xbox line.
