- enantiodromia, on 10/17/2009, -1/+162Good thing he didn't steal 2,200 MP3s, then he would have been in some real trouble.
- jrm125, on 10/16/2009, -4/+123Cmon' dude...you steal smaller quantities spread out so as to not arouse suspicion.
Nice thumbnail btw. - untitlednet, on 10/17/2009, -1/+107wow. That's like a total of 13 bucks trade-in value at GameStop.
- Maynza, on 10/17/2009, -3/+107How the ***** is this guy only getting less than 2 years?
He stole 2200+ pieces of mail, each of which is a serious offense, and he TOOK OFF IN HIS CAR WHEN THE COPS CAME. This guy should have 10 years MINIMUM. - viv4l4b4m03, on 10/17/2009, -3/+72I understand taking a few games, but 2,200? That's when it starts getting suspicious.
- zerohourtech, on 10/17/2009, -6/+71Dugg for thumbnail
- startsomething7, on 10/17/2009, -0/+56If he broke into a Gamestop and stole 2200+ games. I wonder what he would get?
- master69better, on 10/17/2009, -2/+52Your GameFly is open
- TheEggAndI, on 10/17/2009, -1/+46that *****! i had gamefly when i was living in philly about two years ago, and they canceled my account because the three games i sent back to them were never received! and i had always suspected it was some ***** postal office worker!
and even when i moved to another city, they still wouldnt reactivate my account even though i contested that i sent the games out and it was probably at the post office's fault. - firesights, on 10/17/2009, -2/+35Lock this guy up for a long time. People who steal mail are scum.
- inactive, on 10/17/2009, -1/+30Should have downloaded them via bittorent, the penalty is far less severe compared to mail theft.
- johnwayne1, on 10/17/2009, -0/+27Not Gamefly's first problem with the US Postal service.
http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/14/gamefly-files-fu ... - jeffiek, on 10/17/2009, -0/+25Those that don't steal understand that small quantities of disappearing stuff are hard to detect.
Those that do, don't. - Siskoraban, on 10/17/2009, -0/+23http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,192 ...
They sure do. - nickgj83, on 10/17/2009, -1/+24you get a golden star.
- Uaedaien, on 10/17/2009, -3/+25They would probably just say Gamestop deserved it because they sold the games which made him do it.
/s - Matt2k, on 10/17/2009, -1/+20When I was in highschool, I thought it would be funny to swipe a few mice from the computer lab. I got caught and punished as I rightly should have. This was in addition to numerous other little things I did to cause trouble. The administration chose to make me reimburse the school for damages. They had a police officer come in and sit me down and interrogate me. They chose to let me dig my way out of the mess rather than involving courts or parents. I repaid them two fold for their kindness and now have a normal life. Locking people up for non-violent crime is not always the best solution. Two years is a significant amount of time to spend incarcerated, would five or ten years teach a greater lesson? I am not certain.
- malman4, on 10/17/2009, -2/+14USPS didn't steal your PS2......a thief did. I retired from the USPS and resent being associated with a thief.
- Nerolus, on 10/17/2009, -0/+10He's saying the company didn't ploy to steal your *****. Some scumbag who just so happens to work for USPS most likely yoinked your goods.
The guy who stole it of course marked it as delivered - why wouldn't he if he was trying to steal your stuff? - secrity, on 10/17/2009, -7/+16I can't understand taking ANY games, or any other item.
- inactive, on 10/17/2009, -1/+9"Man what a collection you got Ray, how did you afford all these?"
"oh...they're used" - Philbert, on 10/17/2009, -2/+10Except you can't trade in downloads at Gamestop. RTFA
- ThE0eNiGmA, on 10/17/2009, -0/+7Idiot should have read the article. He wasn't stealing them to play them.
- blanktarget, on 10/17/2009, -0/+6He didn't even try to steal good games.
- Toadette, on 10/17/2009, -0/+6All the games I have gotten from gamefly have been in pretty good to almost perfect condition. The come in a waxy paper sleeve inside a cardboard sleeve inside an envelope. Than again, I've only had gamefly for about 6 months so maybe I've just been lucky.
I just took a peek at the two game I have checked out right now and they don't say gamefly on them anywhere. Probably because you have the option to buy the game - they'll send you the manual and case if you choose to keep it.
Sorry if I sound like an Ad for gamefly, I've just been really satisfied with them - I hate paying for stupid games, but sometimes i just want to play them for day or so (especially Wii games... some of them are just so bad)
PS. Gamestop is a ripoff - you can get used games way cheaper off amazon. - secrity, on 10/17/2009, -1/+7I wonder if Netflix has had the same problem.
- zerodepth, on 10/17/2009, -0/+6There was an article with the thumbnail?
- prettychristy, on 10/17/2009, -2/+7I say public flogging.
- HappyScrappy, on 10/17/2009, -0/+5http://gizmodo.com/5365780/postal-worker-steals-32 ...
- inactive, on 10/17/2009, -0/+5With gamefly, dont you get the generic printed disc and maybe an instruction manual inside a paper CD sleeve? You dont get the jewel case and half the time the disc is all scratched to hell (due to it being rented dozens of times). Gamestop employees would have to be braindead to accept that as a used game, especially when it says "Gamefly" on the disc itself. Unless of course, the employees of Gamestop knew they were stolen, which they would naturally take the stock copy of the game and print out b/w covers for the jewel case, not to mention removing any mention of Gamefly off the disc itself.
I would never buy a used game from Gamestop if it came in that condition, no matter how cheap it was.
Doesnt say that he actually traded those gamefly games at gamestop, just that they found a few receipts from gamestop in his car. If anything, gamestop naturally refused and he had no choice by to attempt to dupe normal pawn shops. Which explains why he had so many discs from gamestop in his possession (couldnt sell them).
Use your brain. If YOU read the story, you'd realize that theres alot more to this story than what was reported. - Brak710101, on 10/17/2009, -1/+5That's way to many to steal.
GameFly probably would have noticed a black hole in Philadelphia pretty quickly with that much. - Nashxsaysx, on 10/17/2009, -1/+5bastard...i hope this don't catch on, say with my netflix
- bubbachuck, on 10/17/2009, -0/+3i'm sure this isn't isolated to just Netflix and GameFly...they just get caught more often because they steal so much of it since each DVD has a "real worth" of like $1-2. I wonder if there are UPS/FedEx/DHL workers pulling this off, but instead of 2200, maybe more like 22 packages in the same time, spread out.
- Philbert, on 10/17/2009, -1/+4I've never used Gamefly so I don't know how their disks look. As far as scratches, if the disk is scratched to a certain extent Gamestop will take it back, but there's a $3 resurfacing fee. Of course with some older games like sports games you'll get less than $3 back so of course at that point they just won't take it. (I used to work there)
- Mersonix, on 10/17/2009, -1/+4I live in the Philly area and 4+ Gamefly games have been 'lost' in the mail since 2006 when I started the service. I also complained to several post office workers and managers...
...*****, I got Bioshock like 3 weeks after it came out instead of a week later...
although it's good to know that it wasn't the ineptitude of a US government run establishment... - Hellicus, on 10/17/2009, -2/+5I say death penalty.
- Inverno, on 10/18/2009, -1/+4, the plea memo said.
- bardamuclichy, on 10/18/2009, -0/+2super6: Sentencing doesn't generally work that way in the USA. If you are tried for all of your charges in the same case, you almost always serve your sentence concurrently. IE, if you receive 1 yr for 3 different charges each, you serve 1 yr total. However, it is usually much harder to gain parole if you have you have multiple charges(the exception are facilities that offer time off for good behavior).
Also, I'm not sure where you pulled that 'per instance' bit from. - Nephersir7, on 10/17/2009, -1/+35 Nintendo Wii Sports and 3 Wii Fits in his truck?
Damn, that's a lot of "Wii Sports"! - BookaShade, on 10/18/2009, -2/+4Too bad he didn't break in and steal all of Gamestops games. I ***** hate that place.
- LibertyPrime, on 10/17/2009, -3/+5Greed gets the better of you some times. he shouldn't be stealing in the first place but she should have at least been smart about it, like maybe take one game a week or a month.
- ArvinJA, on 10/18/2009, -0/+2Yeah, 'cause they're dumb!
- ElAmo, on 10/17/2009, -3/+5Your epidermis is showing...
- codyraymulcahy, on 10/17/2009, -2/+4Because he is probably a Veteran - most in USPS are. He'll, I wouldn't be surprised if he got his job back.
- Philbert, on 10/17/2009, -2/+4I have not seen that but I will now, Mos Def's an awesome actor.
- bardamuclichy, on 10/18/2009, -1/+2Federal agencies are prohibited from hiring felons.
- inactive, on 10/18/2009, -1/+2Meh, I used to be a Netflix user and most of the movies had scratches on them.
- CashSaver2, on 10/19/2009, -0/+1Good news she wasnt charged a late fee when she returned them. lol.
- djruden, on 10/19/2009, -1/+2OK - you were in highschool, of course they didn't waste their time in courts. You were a minor....
This was an adult, being paid (by your tax dollars) to work at the Post Office and ensure you get your mail. Now he will get to live in a jail cell (funded by your tax dollars), and probably get video games and cable tv there too. -
