- Ocelot13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16resistance killer?
um, have you heard of alittle game called "Gears of War"?, you might want to go to your local video game store and pick up a copy, because according to pretty much every multiplatform video game magazine and website, gears has better reviews. and guess what? you dont need to pay $500 for a console to play it, you can spend $300 and play it. and the $50, thats for Xbox Live. Xbox Live will curb stomp the ***** out of the PS3 online network. so before you ask for a Resistance "killer" make sure you know that there is already a game out that is way better. - no_root_toe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13With your philosophy would you rather get a game for free and get tired of it then or pay 60 dollars for the game then get tired of it?
- Timmaay, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I Wonder how hard it will be to achieve the second option, meaning how quickly will the 13k spots fill, cause I really don't wanna buy crackdown.
- NuAngel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9My guess, for "rule of 3" would be that the 13,333 spots will fill up in under 5 hours.
As far as 'renting' crackdown, goes, it's a tough call - it's not clear enough, yet, how it's going to work. If the disc will have to be in the unit when the beta is offered in order to unlock the download - or if a 25-char key may be included that can be entered on LIVE. Also, if it's a unique number to each individual copy of the game, perhaps the first renter could 'beat you to it.' Who knows.... - kevxross, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Congratulations, you figured out the reason for beta testing - "they're not sure if the product is going to suck."
Moron. - redneckblues, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Crackdown is gonna sell like crack.
- joaob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5So are the people who made the initial beta signup good to go? Or is it still possible not to be chosen?
I signed up within the first 10 hours. - Memnochxx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The initial sign-up was for a /chance/ to participate. There is no way all those people will get in.
- Carteelith, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5So getting through to the beta testing registration that first night didn't mean anything? That took ***** forever!!
Someone tells me that counts for something... - goonbaggins, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I don't want massive 40 player matches. I want tight 4v4 matches with teammates I know and trust and can communicate with.
- Crass22, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Hed rahter pay 60 bucks so he could get tired of it after everyone else who got tired of it for free. DUH!!! You guys are so...... Logical........ Ugh!
/sarc ;-) - goonbaggins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4from bungie:
http://www.bungie.net/News/TopStory.aspx?cid=9376 - Crass22, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Wow you tote Resistance like it and the PS3 are selling really well?
When will newbs realize the BEST high-definition, Multi-Media, Free online play/content platform by far is a good PC. Back in the day people would say "well I cant afford a PC!" But to get all the shibang out of your PS3 you would need the system and a nice TV to play it on, so your lookin at like 2,000 bucks for a nice set up. You can get a Kick ass computer for 1,000 to 1,500 depending on your taste. - beelz, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8read the story
"In order to qualify, Xbox 360 owners must participate in at least three hours of Halo 2 multiplayer sessions over Xbox Live between February 1 and February 3. Once this is accomplished, players must then register at Halo3.com. The "Rule of Three" program is open only to US residents age 17 and older. The first 13,333 players to register will be accepted into the beta."
So at 3:01 AM on February 1erst that site is going to get hit by 13,333 people. - goonbaggins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2an unannounced number of people are going to be drawn from that group.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2druminpatrick, i dont think it will work like that.
i'm pretty sure they dont track the duration of matches online, i think they go by your time online.
anyhow, i'm gonna give the "rule of three" deal a try. if it doesnt work, i'll happily buy crackdown. - marspidey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The Armed forces have already got to play and they have betas sign-ups in other continents as well
- EXreaction, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Ya, seriously...
I signed up for that too, but I remember the last page just not having anything on it...I am really wondering if that was a joke or never finished(and not meant to be released). - PurpleSfinx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I recall Bungie saying places other than just the USA would get a chance to play...
...hmmm. - The1337Dude, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I’m buying Crackdown regardless, the fact that is comes with an invitation to the Halo 3 Beta just makes me more excited for the game.
- marspidey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The beta sign-up is probably going to random or why keep the site up if there are still spots?
- rrasco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@Crepsley
Did you get an email from them saying you are got a spot? I signed up in Dec and have not heard anything from them yet. - meetthescott, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah... The wording of TFA rather confuses me. I thought the previous signups (during which I "enlisted") were for a chance to be selected to participate in the beta, not for a guaranteed spot. After reading this article, I'm inclined to believe that doing one of the two things listed will result in an insured spot in the beta, which I would assume means that those who previously signed up would be guaranteed spots as well.
So, I guess the question is: is everyone that "enlists," either by way of the first signups or by way of these two methods, ensured a spot in the beta, are they all for CHANCES to be in the beta, or were the first signups for a chance while these other methods are for ensured spots?
Hopefully, I don't have to worry about these secondary methods if I made it into the first signup. - sinembarg0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1
Massive 40 player online matches. (Okay... so what?)
The best matchmaking system in any online game. (Opinion, and you definitely have not played every online game, so this point is nullified)
Completely lag free play even in 40 player matches due to Sony's killer dedicated server setup. (Most lag comes from connection speed [primarily upload], not from a lacking server)
The best weapons and gameplay modes in any online game. (Again, opinion, and nullified because you have not played every online game.)
vs.
That stupid old green metal effect (Baseless opinion, you haven't seen what it's going to look like while playing, and thats just plain dumb saying a game is a bad game because it has dirty green metal in it.)
No dedicated servers (Okay, you have a slight point here, I wouldn't mind dedicated servers, not so much for the advantages of having dedicated servers, just so I don't have to hear people complain about the negligible 'host advantage')
And 50 bucks a year just for the privilege to play. (Live is a great system, and well worth the $50/yr to use. Also, think about it this way: For $600, you can get a PS3, or you can get an Xbox 360 Premium and 4 years of Live, which is great considering that the next generation of consoles will be out only one to three years after those 4 years of live are gone.)
So basically your argument is all opinion and misinformation, and it seems that you are a Halo hater. - AEGYPT, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2...and the third is to PS3 bash on Digg!
think outside the box - DruminPatrick, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3If I understand correctly, it won't be exactly 3:01 AM when the flood starts, since it says "at least three hours of Halo 2 multiplayer sessions over Xbox Live." For each 10-15 minute match there will be about a minute or so of waiting for the next match.
- rrasco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0they are allowing people into the beta out of connections. my brother was promised a spot as a gaming site owner.
- rrasco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0im also trying to figure this out...i signed up weeks ago and want to know if i need to try one of these things too.
- Sharn8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0My guess is about 30 minutes to an hour. If their server can handle the traffic, of course. Thinkg about how many people have Live and a 360... There's well over 13k. Everyone wants Halo 3. :O And, since I know very few of you *actually* read it, it's Halo 2 you have to play and you have 2 days before the signup to get 3 hours. Meaning, yes, everyone will be on it the second it turns 3. (For you...)
- rrasco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i think that is still going to be random once its beta time.
- Anrkist, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Gehko - Yes, go ahead. The people who rented it before you would be nice enough to not use the key, knowing full well you wanted it. You Sir, have outsmarted a multi-billion dollar company. TA HECK WITH BUYING! MS IS DUMB ENOUGH TO LET ME RENT!
- marspidey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Where did you here that from?
- mojorojoe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Microsoft went on to say their was Originally a Third way on getting in on the Halo 3 beta but it hinged on last weekends NFL regular season finale involving the Green Bay Packers making the playoffs.
- Crepsley, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Well, it is a dilema
Do you think that Halo 3 is worth buying Crackdown?
You don't know if the game is good, but its worth tracking it down
Like me, I was the lucky one that did it on December
All you had to do is sign up for it really
OH YEA! - PurpleSfinx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1In that case, please point me to the beta sign up page for Australia. PLEASE.
- lost916, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1lol digg this down, i want to get into the rule of three
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+5i dont want to be tired of the game before it even comes out
- marspidey, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1If you think that their going to be super awesome from playing it is going to affect the X-box community then you don't know what your talking about. More you play anything the better chances you are going to get better at it.
- Memnochxx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Bungie records the time/duration of every game you play online. This is what they will use. Not your online time just sitting in a lobby.
- marspidey, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I like playing multi-player games on the computer but to do that you need a decent computer which might cost 600 to 1500 depending on how good you want it. So if people want to play online would and buy a 360 plus and Xbox live account wouldn't that be cheaper? Also with computers new video cards and processors are always being made so you have to update your computer or you won't be able to run them very well. If you can't use a "joystick" then maybe you shouldn't play on the consoles.
- rrasco, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0he was just saying that so we know his daddy spent $10K on a PS3 for him.
- AntiInsight, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Ive herd that all employees of Gamestop and EBgames are invited to take part in the beta test too.
- stockjones, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I have nothing against consoles. The new ones such as the XBOX 360 and PS3 are very much a PC just packaged differently and the MP games you play must be played on a company specific game network. You are correct, a game PC would probaly cost more, although the PS3 is pretty close in price to an entry level barebones gaming PC.
Still for something just a tad more then of say a PS3 you could get a pretty decent game rig thats upgradable yet current for todays games and its also something you can use for school, work, etc.

My main angst against console multiplayer games is that consoles (at least now) are very limited in terms of player community created content (maps, skins, UI add ons etc) , the fact that you cant have self administered servers and for the most part the same game on a console tends to be minimal in terms of features versus the same game on a PC. I do believe there are options to use a keyboard and mouse with say the X-BOX 360, that would be my preference. - stockjones, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Best online mp experience with over 40 players blah blah. Heck this was going on in the PC world back in 1999 with one of the best darkhorse team based multiplayer games ever made: Tribes and Tribes 2. Hell the very first Halo came about in response the the underground success of Tribes.
it is pretty cool that MS is pushing the multiplayer threshold with consoles, but seriously it just does not match PC multiplayer gaming, at least not now. Where are the mods, player created content, the ability to run "your own server", on the "free" Internet. Consoles are nice but that's how they will all get you into the pay to play mode. Most of the young kids or casual players dont realize they can play online games with their PC without any monthly fee.
On the other hand, MS does seem to want to push PC gaming again which is great, and it would be fun if the day ever came where one game came out for the PC and consoles, were both can play on the same server. Lol what fun it would be to join a server with my keyboard and mouse setup and rack up the kills with the poor guys on their joysticks. I could never play full out MP with a joystick ugh. For me consoles are more for single player games but that seems to slowly be changing. - halosniper7, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1darwin damn it, i hate what bungie does besides make great games. They know how to make them but dont know what the ***** they're doing otherwise.
- h4mx0r, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2Don't think renting would work, because I bet it probably comes on a sheet of paper in the copy of Crackdown, and most places you rent from, they take out all the manuals and stuff when you rent something.
- G-RaZoR, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2Dude... One of the options is to play the beta for 3 hours, how can 13k people play the game for 3 hours and then register within 5 seconds? it has to be a minimum of 3 hours.
- MYarms, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1Hmmm does this mean that they're not sure if Halo 3 is going to suck? Like come try out the game and tell us what you think cuz we're pretty sure that we didn't live up to your hopes for it.
And aren't these people going to be super awesome on multiplayer by the time everyone else gets to play it? That's kind of not fair for the gaming community as a whole. - Insimbi, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2wtf is Crackdown?
