- blackinthmiddle, on 12/20/2007, -4/+68Yeah, when I read this article, I was upset that they linked Mortal Kombat to this. The reporter even mentioned, "Well we're not talking about the video game". Really? I thought "combat" was spelled with a "C". Wonder why anyone would link it to the game?
- ericrous, on 12/20/2007, -2/+34The same reason you blame a murder on Zoloft or a Twinkie--to get out of a prosecution.
- scrimaxinc, on 12/20/2007, -2/+11Where did the reporter say that? The site linked above has an article written as someones opinion. The actual article (linked at the bottom of the page) says explicitly that they were imitating Mortal Kombat moves. I'm not saying its not an insanely stupid excuse, and I don't think video games are the cause of these problems, but it doesn't seem like the media is pulling this out of their ass (this time). It sounds to me like the kids are using it as an excuse because people have seen it work before.
- HubrisDeadPan, on 12/20/2007, -2/+4Wow guys, can you stop skimming the article and try to read it? It says the prosecution is claiming this, not the two teens...the male claimed he was drunk and playing video games.
- scrimaxinc, on 12/20/2007, -1/+3Wow hubris, why don't you take a guys opinion on a gaming website as fact. The article he so eloquently paraphrased was linked the bottom of the page. From that article....
"According to a police affidavit, the teens were baby-sitting Trujillo's half-sister, Zoe Garcia, on Dec. 6 while the girl's mother was at work. Zoe lost consciousness and stopped breathing after the teens hit, kicked and body-slammed her, imitating moves used in the video game, the document said."
The guy on the gamer site wrote it that way because the prosecutor was the one who read the affidavit. Why don't you go misinterpret some more glorified blog span as truth.

- Lancer383, on 12/20/2007, -2/+45Yeah, this all comes off as a load of bull. Unless the teens are trying to pull the classic "video games made me do it" defense, it sounds like there's some lawyer somewhere trying to grab headlines by linking this terrible murder to a fifteen year-old game.

- FreeStater, on 12/20/2007, -0/+6"Mortal Combat" has a much more lethal, intentional, sound to it, doesn't it? Me, my brothers, and all of our friends, used to beat the crap out of each other when we were dumb little wrestling fans. Thankfully, no one ever got hurt. I assume they decided to go with "Mortal Combat" to demonize these guys. Awfully sad story.
- Mikhail101, on 12/20/2007, -1/+5WTF why is everyone buyring him???
There is no wrestling in Mortal Kombat, only Hi/ Low Punches/Kicks, Sweeps, Uppercuts and special moves. They dont wrestle or anything like that.- redhotkurt, on 12/20/2007, -0/+0Because the question of wrestling moves existing in Mortal Kombat is beside the point. We should be talking about the fact that a videogame is being blamed for murder.

I think that as long as it doesn't get out of hand - say, 40 to 50 Mortal Kombat related deaths per year - we're okay.

BUT superwinner is correct. you cant save everyone. I hope they go jail for being ***** stupid and killing a poor girl.
these things happen though and as long as you have stupid kids watching over (i presume) innocent kids you will get this type of *****.

- GhostyBoy, on 12/20/2007, -2/+12People can laugh at what they want....but man....that's just a little kid. I can't think of an instance where I would find a young child being murdered funny. I don't like the idea of a kid getting even seriously hurt. Not funny to me, everyone else is free to their opinion.
- ChileanGoD, on 12/21/2007, -0/+2I dugg down the "finish him" comment above but i dugg this one. It's hard to achieve a golden surprising and assertive comment on this things. I argue that this comment still has more taste to it than the cheap stupid ones that were said before... in a sort of glorification of just what happened to the child, which is tasteless from any way you look at it. I don't know how to explain it.... this one didn't sound that offensive... I don't really know why... I'm still looking for an explanation. I gave it a try below.
- Dayleh, on 12/20/2007, -2/+3Cheer up and stop moaning behind your monitor, its not going to solve anything.
- ChileanGoD, on 12/21/2007, -0/+5- Death of an innocent child... Not funny.
- Random reference from the videogame to make fun of the death of an innocent child ... Not funny.
- Precise and assertive reference from the videogame that would correlate exactly to what would happen in that game if the death of the innocent child would somehow be a represented or reenacted since they are trying to link it to the videogame in the first place... funny. - rhinopig, on 12/21/2007, -0/+4The story is very tragic, but the comment was funny. Humor doesn't automatically mean disrespect.

It's NOT FUNNY...they beat her to death. Please explain to me how you see humor in a child being beatn to a pulp by a drunk 17 year old.- iamaelephant, on 12/20/2007, -3/+7I absolutely agree.
- GhostyBoy, on 12/20/2007, -1/+8Yeah, I have to say that stuff like this gets to me. It would be funny...except some mother has a dead kid, beaten to death by people she trusted. Not trying to be a buzzkill but damn...
- volonix, on 12/21/2007, -0/+2It can be tragic and funny. The story itself is horrific, but the comment was funny. I think thats what you are all misunderstanding - no one finds this funny, but the COMMENT was funny. Comedy and tragedy exist as one.

- beclamide, on 12/20/2007, -11/+15Sure thing. Can you do anything about it? Can you bring her back? Can you stop them from doing what they've done? Are you the sort of person who sobs into their keyboard when tragic things happen, or are you the sort of person who can see the stupidity and ridiculousness of what they've done? If you can't laugh about the tragic state of society, you might as well end it all now.

You can laugh at the tragic state of society all you want, but somebody just lost their little baby girl...
How about this? When I get through brutally murdering your family and everyone else you care about, we can sit back together and make jokes about the way that they were killed. I'm sure you'll still find it utterly hilarious!
***** retard...- beclamide, on 12/20/2007, -6/+9That completely depends if you've killed my family by using Mortal Kombat moves. I'll laugh my head off at you while I wrap a baseball bat round your head.
Just so everyone's clear on this.. even the stupid people.. I'm not laughing at the girl. I'm laughing at the bloody comment you muppet. - JJBagoose, on 12/20/2007, -5/+4@beclamide Actually, what you are laughing at is probably the types of things that poor little girl had to listen to while she was being murdered.
Funny Stuff. You are the stupid one. - seandaly, on 12/20/2007, -3/+4@beclamide:
You're telling people who were upset at comments mocking the way that this girl died to "get a sense of humor".
Exactly where in that statement were you implying that it wasn't OK to laugh at people cracking jokes about it?
"Sure thing. Can you do anything about it? Can you bring her back? Can you stop them from doing what they've done? Are you the sort of person who sobs into their keyboard when tragic things happen, or are you the sort of person who can see the stupidity and ridiculousness of what they've done?"
That sure sounds like justifying laughing at the events that lead to her death, not to a comment you back peddling waste of flesh. - beclamide, on 12/20/2007, -3/+1I'm not saying that at all, you're reading too much into what I said. - yutt, on 12/20/2007, -11/+9I am so tired of this naive response. The child didn't kill anyone. The murderers did kill someone. It isn't "behaving the same". It isn't even remotely comparable. You might as well say kidnapping and imprisonment for a crime are "the same thing".
"We can't imprison kidnappers! That just makes the government kidnappers!"
There are reasons to question capital punishment, but that is not one of them. - kleverness, on 12/20/2007, -4/+6The role of prison is on one side to recover the prisoner so he can reinsert into society and on the other hand to protect citizens from this person, it has nothing to do with kidnapping. However, killing a killer it's seems to be more like a way of revenge, not prevention and recovery.
- Solis, on 12/20/2007, -4/+4@yutt
You're one sick *****. Killing another human is never the right answer. You never should want to steep to the level of a killer, which is exactly what you are promoting. - yutt, on 12/21/2007, -1/+2@Solis
I agree, you should never step to the level of killing an innocent person.
Punishing murders is completely different, however. If you fail to admit or realize that, you're never going to convince anyone of anything. Stop being deliberately naive and pretending killing a murderer is morally equivalent to killing a child.
If you actually believe that; you are one sick *****. Not me.

They deserve death, what's wrong with hanging?- kleverness, on 12/20/2007, -3/+3You may think they deserve death, some of us don't, and who are you to decide this?
In reference to your first sentence, I'll not answer such a fallacy argument. - zagadooga, on 12/20/2007, -3/+1ehh i think hes right tho. most asian and middle eastern countries use hanging as their form of capital punishment. i mean, hanging is still a mode of execution in washington state, and till lethal injection came allong, it was sorta the norm in the US.
altho i dont agree with capital punishment, i personally think that hanging is the best way to go. once you reach the end of the rope, you are uncousiosness, paralyzed, and unable to feel any pain, as your vertebret have been seperated. eight minutes later and ur dead. easy. and for comparison, lethal injection takes around 25min. - Solis, on 12/20/2007, -1/+3What's wrong? The fact that you're murdering human beings. That's what's wrong. Some scary ass people in this world that just want to see other people killed.

I bet she is only crying because she knows that she will never see the light of day again. That tear is not for her poor 7 year old sister who was murdered, and for that reason alone I hope they both rot in hell.
- colto, on 12/20/2007, -22/+26I wouldn't go that far. Maybe she just had a really bad lapse of judgment and only meant to harm her sister and not kill her. I am not saying she doesn't deserve the sentence(if the charges pass) as I feel they are justified, but I wouldn't go so far as to assume she is crying for mere selfish reasons. I would guess that it is a combination of both personally. Perhaps she now realizes just how bad what she did was.
- waynethegreat, on 12/20/2007, -17/+17if she felt that bad she should not have beat her sister. I have a six year old niece and I would never "just try to harm her". The harm done to this girl if you ask me was done mostly by the boyfriend. I highly doubt the sister had as much to do with the actual physical damage done, however I do believe she had a lapse of judgment that began when she was born, the same lapse her mother had by allowing her to babysit the 7 year old. This entire thing makes me sick from beginning to end.
God bless the child.- Scrappy1850, on 12/20/2007, -9/+13so... you were there?
- greven, on 12/20/2007, -7/+18Having a 16 year old babysit a 7 year old is a lapse in judgement? And she had a lapse of judgement since she's been born? What the hell does that mean? It's tragic, yes, but you're comments make the sympathetic look like idiots.
- MindStalker, on 12/20/2007, -3/+26Oh come on, are you blaming the parents now? 16 years is more than old enough to babysit a 7 year old. Get real. Yea I'm sure the parents made some lapse in judgment in teaching this child right from wrong. But come on..
- yournightmare, on 12/20/2007, -1/+1I think he's saying the girl's parent probably knew she didn't display the best judgment, and went ahead and let her babysit the 7-year-old anyway. Which would be poor judgment on the mother's part. Obviously if the girl has always been an upstanding citizen then the mother had every right to assume she would be capable of babysitting her little sister.
- Naught, on 12/20/2007, -1/+8After reading your last two comments, I gotta be honest with you, you sound crazy. You know what the tear in the girl's eye is for, you know the guy did all the damage, and you think that a 16 year old babysitting a 7 year old is a lapse of judgment on the parents' part. Wow.
- Scrappy1850, on 12/20/2007, -2/+5nobody knows who did what to that little girl except for those two teens. hopefully it will all come out in court.
- floorman56, on 12/20/2007, -1/+4only meant to harm her sister
An autopsy showed she had a broken wrist, more than 20 bruises, swelling of the brain, and bleeding in her neck muscles and under her spine... yea it looked like they REALLY wanted to harm her
- waynethegreat, on 12/20/2007, -17/+17if she felt that bad she should not have beat her sister.
- JudgeMonkey, on 12/20/2007, -2/+37Wow, you jump to conclusions and pass your judgment on that alone. Yeah, why am I not surprised. You could say you hope they rot for kiling a kid, but no, that's not good enough. You have to imagine things.
- Nallohki, on 12/20/2007, -5/+17Seriously? You people are so full of vengeance that you have to think of all people who hurt others as sociopaths?
Frankly, this girl screwed up. There's no upside. She will probably have a long time to think about what she did. I can't imagine a worse punishment.
It doesn't mean you have the right to judge her intentions or her character in black and white.- 68024, on 12/20/2007, -4/+7I agree. The bloodlust in this thread is just unbelievable.
- DeadElephant, on 12/20/2007, -9/+3Bloodlust sounds kind of like what they did with that 7 year old. Eye for an eye.
- 68024, on 12/20/2007, -0/+6I'm sick of this 'eye for an eye' attitude. It's primitive, immature, and based on nothing but revenge. You kill because someone else kills, that means, the killing will never stop. It's trite but true: an eye for an eye makes the whole world go blind.
- DeadElephant, on 12/20/2007, -9/+3Bloodlust sounds kind of like what they did with that 7 year old. Eye for an eye.

- dadioflex, on 12/20/2007, -0/+7You're a dick. The sort of angry vengeful dick that would be hurting people with impunity except they're afraid of getting caught and punished. It's like there are two levels of people. People who do wrong and people who want to punish people who do wrong and the people who do wrong are selected by cobbling together a bunch of prejudice and rumour and then deciding what's worth getting flayed for this year.
IF a 16 year old girl killed her 7 year old sister it's a ***** tragedy, not a reason to strap on your dildo of retribution. If it was accidental I don't think that's a catchall getout clause either. There was at least one other person involved who should have known whether this girl child was fit to be left alone with her infant sister and I think they bear a far greater percentage of responsibility than the 16 year old girl. I ASSUME you ***** goats. And because of that, you are a sick, twisted individual.

- Ender008, on 12/20/2007, -1/+20Teenagers should be mature enough to know that beating a 7 year old girl to death is completely sick...
- CresseyChaos, on 12/20/2007, -2/+9Are you ***** mental! They didn't steal from the cookie jar you bloody idiot, I think more than a slap on the wrist is necessary
- BurningApple, on 12/20/2007, -1/+5As hard as it is to believe. Teenagers know that if you beat a 7 year old girl bad enough, she'll probably die.
- hexydes, on 12/20/2007, -1/+23They should take the average life-expectancy of a child the age of seven (as of the year 2007), subtract 7 from that, and then apply that number to the number of years each should receive in their sentence. They can each get one year in jail for every year the child was likely to have lived.
I'm guessing that's going to be somewhere in the range of 65-75 years. That sounds about right. Then if they ever think that what is happening to them isn't "fair", they can just remember that they are living one year of life (albeit in prison) that the little girl they murdered is not able to.- noisician, on 12/20/2007, -0/+17why not, it's just as arbitrary as any other length of imprisonment, yet has the veneer of logic
- AbsurdParadox, on 12/20/2007, -1/+7I like this alot, because then its no big deal for me to kill old people!!
- appleseed1234, on 12/20/2007, -0/+3But if you kill someone over 75, doesn't that mean they owe you years?
- parax, on 12/20/2007, -13/+23I think 48 years maximum is excessive. I think Norway has the right idea with a 21 year maximum sentence.
When it comes to laws, we must try to think objectively. Huge prison sentences only serve the purpose of revenge, not rehabilitation. The ultimate goal should be to turn a dysfunctional human being into a functional one. Any humane justice system seeks to rehabilitate its criminals, not punish them. Vengeance-focused justice systems produce better criminals, not better people. In such a system, the vast majority of people who end up in the system are a net loss to society. In addition to what they already took from society, they become a lifelong resource drain.- popfrogs, on 12/20/2007, -10/+8Which is why I support the death penalty with a single bullet. It's cheaper for society, it keeps prisons empty, it's humane, and vicious criminals like these two won't have a chance to perform another FATALITY!
- VieRelative, on 12/20/2007, -3/+9What about all the people that have been killed due to incorrect convictions?
- 68024, on 12/20/2007, -0/+1Uh.. hello!? That's what I'm talking about. 125 innocent people killed by the state since 1976.
- Qumahlin, on 12/20/2007, -2/+1That only matters if you truly believe that saving one innocent life is worth letting hundreds of murderers live...I myself don't believe that, but I digress...
The amount of wrongful convictions leading to the death penalty is going DOWN not up. The only reason a lot of those wrongful executions took place was because they did not have DNA testing back then. In fact if not for DNA testing we wouldn't even be aware of quite a few of those 125 people wrongfully killed. When you do the math you get a rough estimate of 4 innocents a year are killed, now that DNA evidence is part of almost all capital cases that number is going to drop fast.
- 68024, on 12/20/2007, -0/+2Yeah, like all 125 or so since 1976 in the USA. I guess they don't count.

I don't think I have a problem with that especially in this case.- burndive, on 12/20/2007, -0/+1Since when does rehabilitation have anything to do with justice? Mercy has its place, but mercy is the guest of justice: mercy affirms that justice is correct, and only then removes the penalty. By definition, NO ONE deserves mercy, and EVERYONE deserves justice.

2- That's not what he's talking about. That was rehabilitation by physiological conditioning. That's not the same thing as psychological rehabilitation, wherein you actually force the person to reflect on their own acts and understand why they were wrong.
Yes, there are of course convicts who are beyond help, but the vast majority of the prison system is filled with people who simply don't know anything else other than crime, and can be helped if approached the right way... - anarchyx34, on 12/20/2007, -1/+2OMG! So obscure!! I'm wowed!

- 141592653589793, on 12/20/2007, -1/+0no. killing another human being, especially your family member, your own little sister you're supposed to be looking after, is unforgivable.
i wouldn't mind making a law that says being drunk is illegal.
many argue that video games are not at fault here, because any sane person does not want to kill people just by playing video games, but that separation between the video game world and the real world can disappear in some individuals when they get drunk.
no objection to drinking though, but being drunk is damn dangerous to other people around you.
- 141592653589793, on 12/20/2007, -1/+0no. killing another human being, especially your family member, your own little sister you're supposed to be looking after, is unforgivable.
- VieRelative, on 12/20/2007, -4/+3Prison was never intended as rehabilitation. It serves two purpose:
1. deterrence (similar but not exactly the same as revenge)
2. prevent a repeat offense
For young children (less than 8 or so), they often don't even understand the concept of consequences of their actions yet. We rely on constant supervision and require strict adherence to authority in order to make sure that they don't harm themselves or others. So for children this young it makes no sense to send them to prison.
But at 15 and 16 year olds, they are expected to understand the consequences of their actions. If they think they can beat up their little sister and possibly kill her with little or no consequences, then they are a lot more likely to do it. They are also much more capable to out-muscle or circumvent authority. This is why we implement punitive sentences to send a clear message to all 15/16 year olds that they will be held accountable for their actions.
As for rehabilitation, you need to understand that not everyone is kindhearted. They will only do what they feel like and it is not society's responsibility to bend over backwards and brainwash those people to make sure that they never feel like killing or raping someone.- bspence11, on 12/20/2007, -2/+1Your source?

I'm 17- Wormfather, on 12/20/2007, -2/+1Agreed, but those consequences should be weighted for mitigating circumstances, and imo being a teenager is a mitigating circumstance. As a general rule, teens are reckless, if it wasn't true then why would some states be moving up the driving age to 18?
- Navicerts, on 12/20/2007, -0/+5I agree to a certain extent however... It had to be clear at some point that they were inflicting serious damage. As I recall when i was young we had rock fights and dumb things like that. If someone got nailed in the forehead with a rock (like I did) everyone immediately stopped the fight to check if they were OK. With a broken wrist, 20 bruises, bleeding in the neck, swelling of the brain; there had to be a few moments when even if no physical signs of damage were showing up it was clear the girl was getting seriously hurt.
Maybe you had to be there, I wonder who the "witnesses" are that are mentioned in the article and how much they saw, how they reacted. - MyBacchanalia, on 12/20/2007, -0/+2I know what you mean.. but this is a really ***** up case.
I'm all for lesser prison sentences across the board. Putting people in jail for the rest of their lives for one stupid mistake is a waste of a/another life and of huge cost to society.
I can imagine it happening if maybe they were on some other drugs too...it would be perhaps a little more understandable. I just don't know how this could happen.. How could they not realize what they were doing? This is like torture, totally sadist. I have no idea what to make of this case. - tehbored, on 12/20/2007, -1/+1Well you're ***** up. When I was 15 I knew better than to do things like that.
- bingobongony, on 12/21/2007, -2/+1So, becuase you are a stupid *****, or were at age 15, everyone should be able to get away with it? It is monumentally sad that you think that at age 15 you were not able to tell right from wrong because of your age.
- Vapor17, on 12/20/2007, -0/+7If a teenager cannot make good decisions regarding the life of others, they should suffer the consequences
- barnett25, on 12/20/2007, -0/+1Now the parent is going to have no children. It's a messed up situation. I wonder what the motivation was?
- tehbored, on 12/20/2007, -0/+1So you'd break into the local jailhouse, kill them, then get back out without being caught?
- bingobongony, on 12/21/2007, -0/+1Digg an't be dumbed down anymore than it alreay is/
- Frnnkdlxx, on 12/21/2007, -0/+1Umm... rtfa. they were brothers and sisters. this happens thousands of times a year. people looove blowing these things out of proportion when there are black people to hang.
- abbathdoom, on 12/20/2007, -5/+9The only reason this story is being dugg in the first place is because it mentions Mortal Kombat,. People are not joking about the death but about the lameness of a video game being attached to the murder for seemingly no reason other than it makes a more sensationalist story.
- KnockoutNerd, on 12/20/2007, -9/+282Why the ***** would they do something like that?
- DoodleMaster, on 12/20/2007, -28/+12because they are kids who are 16 and 17 and generally don't think about their actions' possible consequences, or do and go ahead with it anyway because they don't think it can happen.
- KnockoutNerd, on 12/20/2007, -2/+20I'm 16 an before I do anything I ALWAYS think of the outcomes to the best I can, and I think most people should, but hey I'm just cautious.
- noahhoward, on 12/20/2007, -3/+3Not everyone is raised that well, unfortunately the norm is that there are no parents around or no parents who bother to tell kids when something shouldn't be done.
- netant, on 12/20/2007, -0/+4Sometimes is a genetic/organic flaw in your brain; you're just not capable of having a conscience (empathy). Being a disciplinarian doesn't fix that.
- DoodleMaster, on 12/20/2007, -0/+2You're not jus being cautious you're being smart....but to clarify I was never trying to make an excuse for them but anwsering a question with respect to the proven reality that kids are inherently idiots/*****/***** ups/ hell raisers/ at that age partly do to mental development does that make it ok NO. What makes it worse is that they Kept going even after they new the damege was bring done.
- noahhoward, on 12/20/2007, -3/+3Not everyone is raised that well, unfortunately the norm is that there are no parents around or no parents who bother to tell kids when something shouldn't be done.
- exscind, on 12/20/2007, -2/+12Pathetic argument. A small child would instinctively know that such actions are unthinkable, much less two teenagers.
- Wormfather, on 12/20/2007, -2/+1WHOA, are you serious? Hind sight is 20/20, especially for kids. to say that a bunch of teenagers mimicking what they see on tv/video games is deviant behavior is sup par.
- DoodleMaster, on 12/20/2007, -1/+1I'm not arguing in favor for the kids I'm not saying its nto their fault it very much so is, but IT IS TRUE that inhibitions at that age are generally cast to the wind read news articles about things similar to this happening read why car accidents occur mostly with teens. Because of brain chemistry its a fact. But they should still be punished for their actions because they were there actions they just weren't thinking about the consequences.
- kooft, on 12/20/2007, -0/+8They weren't thinking about the consequences of their actions? Did you read the description of the damage done to the girl? I find it hard to believe you can hit a 7-year old hard enough to break her bones (very soft at that age I might add) yet not hear her scream in bloody agony. Then, instead of stopping they continued to beat her until she died.
They knew what they were doing and need to be locked up. Normal people don't go around brutally murdering toddlers, that's a task generally carried out by those with severe mental disorders. - iet2004, on 12/20/2007, -1/+5a stupid argument. i was six or seven when the first mortal kombat game came out, played every sequel since, still play those games, and every other worthy fighting game that came out since.....and i'm pretty sure i or the dozens of friends i have that play those games haven't murdered anyone yet.
- DoodleMaster, on 12/20/2007, -1/+1I'm not saying video games caused this at all I THINK ITS STUPID that peopels ay videos games caused this I ddin't mention at all video games caused this I entirely blocked the fact that they said video games because it's stupid. please stop changing my words around.
- AmICoolNow, on 12/20/2007, -0/+1Umm, just because someone is 17 doesn't mean that they have no conscience. If I had to guess, I'd say these people were on meth/some other hardcore drug, AND they were really messed up in the first place.
- KnockoutNerd, on 12/20/2007, -2/+20I'm 16 an before I do anything I ALWAYS think of the outcomes to the best I can, and I think most people should, but hey I'm just cautious.
- DoodleMaster, on 12/20/2007, -2/+11Ran out of time to add: That doesn't make any less wrong than it already is and shouldn't be used as an excuse, they should be punished.
- netant, on 12/20/2007, -0/+3What is the purpose of punishment? If they were capable of doing this, are they really capable of "learning" its not right to beat a 7 year old to death? Is the little 7 year old going to see from heaven that "justice has been served"?
No, at least one of these people are dangerous animals. Imprisonment is only for managing these people.
- netant, on 12/20/2007, -0/+3What is the purpose of punishment? If they were capable of doing this, are they really capable of "learning" its not right to beat a 7 year old to death? Is the little 7 year old going to see from heaven that "justice has been served"?
- killakan, on 12/20/2007, -0/+24"Roberts said Zoe had told them to stop wrestling. According to the affidavit, when the witness asked why they didn't stop, he responded, 'I don't know; I was drunk.' "
- johnhummel, on 12/20/2007, -1/+43I find it odd that there's more focus on the Mortal Kombat issue, than the fact that a 16 and 17 year old were drunk while babysitting.
Nah - alcohol wouldn't have anything to do with why two teenagers did something stupid.- esfisher, on 12/20/2007, -0/+13Politicians drink alcohol.
Politicians don't play video games. - Sheff, on 12/20/2007, -2/+2Politicians play real life with real people with real consequences. Ask Ted Kennedy about this.
- iamaelephant, on 12/20/2007, -0/+1Blaming alcohol is just as stupid. When I was 16 I was drunk every weekend. Alcohol and video games are both cop outs. There must be some underlying psychological issues at play, in my (amateur) opinion.
- 141592653589793, on 12/20/2007, -1/+0alcohol is not the problem and violent video games is not the problem;
but alcohol + violent video games may very well be the problem. after all, being drunk may blur the distinction between reality and video game world in some people.
thus, i wouldn't mind making it illegal to be drunk. - ZeroXMD, on 12/21/2007, -0/+1alchohol and a stupid mind is the problem. If you are too drunk to know that you are doing something stupid and retarded (in this case, I can't come up with a word to describe it), then you should not be drinking in the first place. It's the individual and the alchohol in this case, not the videogames. I'm glad scapegoats are used so much nowadays that personal accountability is out of the question. (it was because of the..... SHUT THE HELL UP AND ACCEPT THAT YOU ARE A *****) ((note, not meaning iamaelephant))

- floorman56, on 12/20/2007, -0/+4it also seems to be spomthing else was going on there
The two teens were baby- sitting Zoe and the girls' 2-year-old twin half-sisters. Roberts lived with the family.
Peggy Jeffries, whose son is Zoe's mother's live-in boyfriend, said she'd long had concerns about the kids' safety at home but didn't report it because she didn't want to get her son in trouble.
One sign surfaced when Zoe's teacher told Jeffries that Zoe had bruises on her chest and arms, something Jeffries saw for herself.
"Zoe said it was Lamar (Roberts)," Jeffries told 9News.
Jeffries said she finally contacted social services not long before Zoe died, landing her son in jail, but said her efforts came too late. - Navicerts, on 12/20/2007, -0/+2"One witness stated that according to Roberts, Zoe pleaded with them to stop wrestling with her, but he did not stop."
A little different from what you said, Roberts was not asking for it to stop, he was the one doing it (along with Heather)- kingvik, on 12/20/2007, -0/+1if there was a witness why didn't they stop it.
- johnhummel, on 12/20/2007, -1/+43I find it odd that there's more focus on the Mortal Kombat issue, than the fact that a 16 and 17 year old were drunk while babysitting.
- ElAssoWipo, on 12/20/2007, -10/+153Because they're stupid degenerates.
You can try and explain this with all kinds of social influences and bla, bla, bla, but the only difference between these two and everyone else that's been subjected to the same social influences is that they are degenerates. They are closer to an ape than they are to the human ideal (a reasonnable, social, kind, caring and intelligent being).
You need to be an animal to attack children. Humans are genetically programmed to care about children. Not in the sense of maternal instincts, but litterally in the sense that a child is supposed to cause an emotional response in humans that make them want to protect them. For example, if a stranger approaches you in the street or asks for help, you may or may not refuse to talk or help that person, because he's an adult and you don't feel at all responsible for him.
But if a child asks for help, you'll miss work to help the kid. You'll sacrifice your time and energy to help the kid just because it's a kid. If the kid is crying you'll feel compelled to comfort him.
These people kicked and punched a child to death. They are degenerates.- jun2san, on 12/20/2007, -1/+4well said
- iamaelephant, on 12/20/2007, -6/+3Saying "they're just degenerates" tells us nothing. Obviously there's something wrong, but throwing your arms up in the air and saying "well they're just degenerates" is weak. What is the underlying psychological issue? What CAUSED this to happen? Everything has a cause.
- jun2san, on 12/20/2007, -0/+3What caused this to happen? Well, they degenerated.
- ZeroXMD, on 12/21/2007, -0/+1They are dumbasses to begin with. throw in alchohol and the restraints are off

mod ElAssoWipo up! - ZeroXMD, on 12/21/2007, -0/+1Thank you for that comment.
- netant, on 12/20/2007, -0/+6Because at least one of them is a sociopath, a human monster that is incapable of living in human society without killing a child with indifference. This is not a 13 year old whom I could buy the possibility that it could have been unintentional. The tragedy is that people will have enough compassion for them that they'll probably commit a similar crime when they get out of prison in their forties.
If there weren't signs of abuse before this killing, my guess would be that it was mostly the boyfriend's fault. The older sister was probably either passed out drunk, or not around when the killing blow occurred. - EmperorAwesome, on 12/20/2007, -6/+1Minorities are dangerous?
- Jpotts12, on 12/20/2007, -6/+1Yes, yes they are. Just another stupid nig and spic here. What do you think a ***** will say when you ask them to rationalize a crime: "Uuhhh...I don't know *****...my semi-evolved brain is incapable of thinking".
- peranadigital, on 12/20/2007, -0/+3I'm amazed you survive with your semi evolved brain. If you add it up, there are more minorities than what you think of as the majority.
- EmperorAwesome, on 12/21/2007, -0/+1And I'm amazed that my clear jab at irrational explanation attracted a real, honest-to-goodness white supremacist.

- omicronblue, on 12/20/2007, -0/+1My guess is that the two teens were drunk and having sex when the seven year old walked in on them. They panicked and they didn't want to get in trouble for sex so they killed her.
- ZeroXMD, on 12/21/2007, -0/+2plausable, but i doubt it. Killing your sister because of sex is like impaling someone because they saw you eat a twinkie when you are on a diet.
- omicronblue, on 12/21/2007, -0/+1Yeah, I thought of that as I posted it. They were drunk though, so their judgment was impaired. Maybe they meant to just rough her up to keep her quiet, but it went too far?

Dumb drunkass didn't realize he was hurting her till it was too late. I've wrestled alot with my friends and brothers but never actually hurt ppl (unless it was submissions, even then, we didn't pull, we held onto the hold and didn't pull back on the limbs)
