- SeriouslyButNo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+283 million's quite a large amount.
- bloodylip, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Why isn't it possible? PSP has been out for almost 2 years in America. Do you grab every person on the street you see by the ankles and shake them upside down to see if a PSP falls out? Remember, it was going neck-and-neck with the DS for a while in America. Hardware sales are there, but software sales have been lacking. And if software sales are lacking, it means that people are probably just leaving them on their desk at home.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Data from http://www.vgcharts.org
Well done Nintendo ! - dullin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Didn't gears of war also pass 2 millions just before the holidays ... things are moving fast for Nintendo considering the console base ratio.
- hansamurai, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14Wish I had known where he got his data before I clicked on the blogspam, thanks.
- Murdats, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9uh, I know here in the outside of america, it wasnt bundled with the wii anywhere I saw, and I know the deals a lot of the major entertainment stores and retail chains were offering
it may be the case in america, but remember there are a lot of people (with wii's aswell) who dont live in the USA - bloodylip, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10So far, I've bought Zelda, Metal Slug Anthology, Rayman, and Super Monkey Ball. All of those games are really fun. I'd also like to get Madden, Tony Hawk, and Elebits. They all seem pretty fun.
- Toad008, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8At my house we have Zelda, Metal Slug, Trauma Center, Super Monkey Ball, Rayman, and Red Steel. We've only sunk maybe 10 hours into Zelda so far. Easily spent 4 or 5 times that on Monkey Ball, and Rayman, and probably close to 10 times in Wii Sports.
The big problem right now (at my house anyway) is we are using the Wii as a social gaming system, and those single player games just don't get a ton of play time. We need software that can entertain 4 people. WiiSports, Monkey ball, and Rayman definitely delivers.
That said, out of the single player games we have, we're playing a lot of Trauma Center, because it's easy to pick up and play just a mission for 20 minutes) and Red Steel. I don't know why so many people / reviewers are giving Red Steel such a bad rep. I'm really enjoying it. Multiplayer is a touch weak, as split screen is crowded, but Single Player is fun.
Just rented Elebits yesterday. Played it a bit last night. It's pretty crazy. First couple levels are super easy, but then once you aren't supposed to be smashing things anymore, and have to carefully put down vases, and dishes and such, and navigate through the traps they set up (Who the heck puts 2 dressers blocking the door to the bathroom? and why stack 5 expensive vases on top of them?). Game turned pretty hard. - Michalson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6It would be interesting to know where you got that number. TP isn't doing *as well* in Japan, not bombing - where as NA was getting a 75% TP uptake on launch day (3 out of every 4 Wii buyers also picked up TP), in Japan it was Wii Play getting the biggest uptake, with TP only being picked up by about 1 out of every 3 Japanese Wii buyers.
- thefirstenemy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Wow, you're bad at math. They state right below the headline, Wii sales 3 million, TP 2 million.
- whisperedlie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6... and i still can't even find a wii in stock.
- DeepDoo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8is that number counting the gamecube version of TP or just the Wii version?
- kelbear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Very few bundles have TP bundled, perhaps on ebay though.
Bundles are trying to foist extra sales on you along with the console. An extra sale i.e a sale that wouldn't have otherwise occured.
Bundling TP is pointless since most just buy it anyway. They'd want to bundle something that few people actually want so the store gets to rid itself of unwanted games. They don't bundle to make the package nicer, people are already buying out all the Wiis. They bundle to make money off you that you wouldn't otherwise give. - yasth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Zelda is a Strongly NA (and to an extent EU) game more so then most people imagine. It sells in Japan of course, and quite nicely, but the fan club is bigger here. One could try to draw conclusions from that, but eh it is hard and meaning laden.
- avidlinuxuser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Um, that was a weekly figure. Total sales for Twilight Princess in Japan is around 250,000.
- jgee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3There's more than just Zelda to play on the wii. Excite Truck, Madden, Call of Duty 3, Rayman Raving Rabbids to name a few. I'm actually hooked on Excite truck right now.
- Klarth, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6"I bought Barnyard for my wife for Christmas and her and my sister-in-law played 10 straight hours of it that day. It actually got a slightly better review score than TP at one of the game review sites."
What the ***** - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5You mean it was bundled in the console and I didn't need to buy it like I did? doh!
- hansamurai, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I gave my Wii to my brother in law after beating Zelda, I'll buy another one once Super Smash Bros. comes out.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Hahaha now i can tell all the GoW fans to ***** themselves
- Korexz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I have:
Zelda, freaking awesome.
Madden, I haven't liked a Madden game in years, and on the Wii it just has something more than previous years.
Rayman, this game is a blast, great guilty pleasure game.
Elebits, believe the hype, this game is crazy fun. I had to drive to 3 Best Buys (mostly because the customer service there SUCKS) to find one.
And Wii Sports of course, I find myself without enough time in the day to play. I don't know why everyone is complaining about having to wait for games. Seems to me that there is enough to do... and if not there is always the VC. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If you get modded down it would be because you states that its the only good game and then proceed to name 2 other good game.
You have to make up your mind before you post, not while you post. - Klarth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3No. Nobody knows.
Hint: It's Zelda! It's a main game in the series! Who is the villain likely to be? - robuk24, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Anyone who owns a Wii should play this. Its brilliant.
- motang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2According to vgcharts.org they have only the Wii numbers showing. I would like to know how the GC version is selling as well.
- NSMike, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I think he's referring to those criminal forced-bundles that gaming stores tend to make people buy just to get the console which include several games and a bunch of accessories you end up not wanting. Not that Nintendo bundled TP with the Wii.
However, I haven't seen that happen too much with the Wii. They're not in stores to begin with, so they don't get the opportunity to pull that crap. - kikuchiyo11, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@ dadioflex
You're right, many many more people use public transportation in Japan than commute via car.
You're wrong as most of them don't play portable games. I lived in Japan for a year and I only saw little kids playing game machines on trains and even that was pretty rare. Most people either sleep or e-mail from their cellphones. - TheWorm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That would mean 3/4th of wii buyers bought Zelda. I bought my wii today, I am planning on buying Zelda but that number seems a little unlikely.
- dadioflex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Most of them don't have to play games. Just more than would be average in the US, to explain the figures. Gaming is still a minority interest so obviously most commuters aren't playing games. If they were those figures would be 10s or 50s of millions per console.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4@ldhertert
Link to page where it says that? - miketuck3r, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5ps3's everywhere though
- cmfrolick, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I bought Barnyard for my wife for Christmas and her and my sister-in-law played 10 straight hours of it that day. It actually got a slightly better review score than TP at one of the game review sites. I also played it some, it is quite fun, a couple of the mini games had me laughing so hard I had to pause the game until I regained enough composure to play. There are a number of good titles already out for the Wii, just not all of them in one genre, TP and BY are definitely not the same type of game play.
I do have, and very much enjoy TP (my Christmas gift from the wife). - chimaera2005, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Interesting to know that the PSP is "chocking" in the dust left behind by the DS.
- jake13jake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wait, there have been twice as many copies of Zelda sold than PS3 has sold units? That's amazing. I love my Zelda games.
- freestatelover, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I bought the Costco bundle and it included TP and Excite Truck. For a time, I also other bundles online that included TP.
- dadioflex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you're looking at the vgcharts site also don't forget that the Japanese chart shows weekly sales and the US chart shows a monthly total.
I think it really demonstrates that portable gaming is just far more mainstream in Japan. It's commuter gaming. Possibly more people in Japan use public transport as opposed to driving themselves to and back from work. - thefaithful, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2DS = Dust Secreter?
- rboyce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Did anyone else get a copy of Twilight Princess before getting a Wii?
- jgee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I find it interesting that the Japanese game chart is dominated by portable games, whereas the Americas chart is the exact opposite: almost all the games are for consoles.
- dadioflex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I pasted the figures into a spreadsheet for the top 20 games (I am so lame...)
Cumulative figures, ie for total sales for each of the games in the top 20 by console type:
PS2 5.911 million
DS 5.593 million
GBA 4.093 million
360 1.703 million
WII .462 million
Which looks good for the PS2. But add up the Nintendo games and it's a squash match. Just look at portable games and they have a healthy lead on the living room based consoles. The PSP doesn't figure because it didn't have a top 20 game. On the day of release of Liberty City Stories it would probably have at least made a dent. A slight dent. Buffable. - pollardito, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"Very few bundles have TP bundled"
just doing an informal count on one of the wii availability tracking sites, it looks like about a third of them do. here's some :

a gamestop bundle that i purchased had it also, as well as some others that i can't link because the site deactivates the page when they're not-available.
not all of the bundles are exclusively slow-selling games, some of them actually are all decent games and some of them have a few decent games that they'd sell anyway along with some awful ones - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well this can all be found at
http://www.vgcharts.org/worldtotals.php - raineisdead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well, the Wii, according to some people, may only have one truly stellar title, Twilight Princess, but one must also take into consideration that this title is also a highly aticipated sequal to a widely beloved series. The PlayStation 3, on the other hand, accordingly has only one great game as well, Resistance: Fall of Man, but it is an unfamiliar title that many people would overlook in comparisson to more familiar titles because lets face it, not every gamer goes on Gamespot or IGN and reads reviews all day every day. But it is kind of amusing that even after the PlayStation 3 suffered from manufacturing problems, leading up to a horribly small number of launch units, one can still find a PlayStation 3 at retail. Where is the demand? Sony seems to like in supply and demand. This doesn't look too great. However, the Wii is an appealing system to a wider variety of people, including many hardcore gamers such as myself, and The Legend of Zelda is a series that the world has been in love with ever since its original release. So why are those numbers hard to believe? All I'm going to say is I've spent more time playing my Wii and Twilight Princess since I recieved it as a gift on Christmas Eve than I have playing The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion on my Xbox 360 since I got that as an apologetic gift back in July. And I'm not even going to consider buying a PlayStation 3 until Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Versus XIII are released, and that probably won't happen here in the states until late 2008, maybe even early 2009. I just think people aren't yet willing to believe that Nintendo has redeemed themselves of the flaws they made during the lives of the Nintendo 64 and the GameCube.
- TheWorm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Wrooong reply.
- stateyourname, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0No matter what the sales figures are, there will be one more sale when I actually manage to get my hands on a Wii, as I'll have to either get a second copy or trade in the Cube version for it. Damn having to wake up at 2am to go stand in line!
- modifiedbears, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I know Zelda is a popular game, but I call ***** on this number. Wouldn't Nintendo release a press statement about their big game selling this well? I think a lot of non/casual gamers who bought a Wii are happy with Wii Sports. This is going to be Nintendos biggest problem. Getting the people they've brought into gaming to buy games based off unfamiliar things. It's easy to say here play bowling, baseball, tennis, etc., but to get someone to shoot bunnies with plungers without feeling silly/childish is another thing.
- CanadianGeese, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Fanboys will digg me down for this, but it's really the only good game (besides Rayman and maybe Madden) on the Wii. I would assume it is the first game of choice for anyone who buys a Wii.
- xmuzik, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0i own the twilight princess for gamecube & i'm sure that's where alot of sales are coming from as well, i doubt it's all wii
- datek2517, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Two million SHIPPED, not sold. The title is misleading. Labeled as inaccurate.
- Korexz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Well, lets see here...
7 XB360 titles over 1 Million
3 Wii titles over 1 Million
0 PS3 titles over 1 Million
The attach rate for Zelda : TP alone is astounding, 2 out of 3 Wii owners have one... But is this combined sales of GC and Wii units?
This might have to do with Target selling TP for $40 this past week. Which brings a question to mind. What kind of margin are retailers making on Wii games. If Target was willing to take a loss on TP I wouldn't be too suprised, but I have a feeling that they still made money at the $40 price point. So how long before all Wii titles are $40? The World Poker game debuted at $40.
You cannot sell 1 game to everyone that owns a system, and therefore Sony is biting it hard right now.
Namco has stated they need to sell 500,000 units to make a profit... where do you think the next Soul Calibur will show up? -
