- rhfb, on 10/10/2007, -8/+63Screw the console price drop, GIVE US CHEAPER GAMES.
- CheapyD, on 10/10/2007, -3/+30Woops...threw an extra "&" in there. Sorry about that.
- afx1, on 10/10/2007, -3/+27u've lived up to your name, once again
- Gerchak, on 10/10/2007, -3/+26Amen. To hell with this "$60 is the new $50" bullcrap. $50 is the sweet spot, deal with it.
- Birdoftruth, on 10/10/2007, -13/+3350 not as much as a 100
- djSyndrome, on 10/10/2007, -1/+16Not everyone wants to ***** with their console - or Microsoft's generous new warranty, for that matter.
- chris9902, on 10/10/2007, -4/+18Video games were like $50 when they first came out and haven't really changed since. If you added inflation you'd be looking at $130 since the 80s. $50/60 is a pretty good price considering games are so much better now and cost more to produce.
- idleminded, on 10/10/2007, -6/+20Awesome. I just hope it stays in effect into the holidays and not just because they're trying to push out the ones with the high failure rate to make way for newer ones, with which they can then raise the price again.
- kenvsryu, on 10/10/2007, -16/+30Cheaper red rings!
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -4/+16Finally. I'm surprised they were able to go almost 2 years without dropping their price and still sell a decent amount of consoles.
- JMDupont, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12Generally speaking retailers don't put consoles on sale. The margins are too thin as it is.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -15/+24The newer ones will be even cheaper to make (with the new/smaller/cooler chips), so the price won't go up again. This isn't Sony.
- chocobomog, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9I looked at your comments and in EVERY article about a possible 360 price drop you posted the same "I posted this first, look at me!!!" comment, and even went so far as to say "you can digg me down, but just remember who broke this story". You realize this causes the opposite effect than what you intend, right? By demanding credit, fame, and attention, diggers will loath you and associate your infamous name with "attention-whore". No one cares who broke the first story, few people read the submitter's name in the first place. Continuing to post about it will only get you blocked, and then no one will read your stories.
- RooDoG, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10The Walmart one i still wont believe because there are so many inconsistencies. I have always wondered why these pictures are always so blurry and small, unless all they had was a cheap camera phone.
- yournamehere, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9prime idiot
- funnydale, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Actually, I remember 16-bit games costing a lot more than 50 dollars. Final Fantasy 3 for the SNES cost 70 dollars. Hell, Phantasy Star 4 for the Sega Genesis cost 100 bucks back in 1995.
- m00dy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Now cant you go to any circuit city, best buy etc and demand a price match?
- crussell96, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7got my 360 for $200 after the $100 rebate plus another $100 for opening the credit card, paid it and canceled it.
- Ignignokt01, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7All the people asking for $50 games instead of $60 are the SAME consumers demanding higher production-level games: your halos, your crysis, those all demand immensely huge amount of artwork and coding, in comparison to older classic games. Its amazing games don't cost $100!
Seriously, stop complaining. If consumers wouldn't bitch about who has the better graphics all the time, and didn't give a ***** about graphics, then the games would have gotten cheaper. - drjekelmrhyde, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Did'nt mircocenter offer it with 100 dollar rebate
- mrmcgoo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Yeah, I remember buying Donkey Kong Country on the SNES for $80 when it was released. Switching to discs later helped lower the cost, but game production costs have also risen since then.
- CyberSkull, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I'm hoping there will be a price cut on the Elite. 20 gigs isn't enough space with all the downloads they want you to use marketplace for.
- jacksons98, on 10/10/2007, -4/+9@gogogo111 The 3yr warranty only covers one issue and that is the red ring of death. Most people realize there are more issues than just that with the X360 which aren't covered. The DVD drive scratching disks, overheating, freezing, and power supply issues are all still 1 year.
- otakushark, on 10/10/2007, -7/+12Sorry, I should have said $50 off and a 3-year warranty is not enough for me to buy a product with a 30%+ failure rate.
- modifiedbears, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Games have become cheaper you kiddies just don't realize what N64 and older games use to cost.
- Necho, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4yep right around the time the PS3 and Wii was released. Still kicking myself for not having jumped on it then
- larrabee, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Alright Fat Ass! Just because it happened to you...
- joser916, on 10/10/2007, -5/+9hd-dvd player $179.99
- gwolf, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I think 360 will do well, PS2 had similar problems it's first couple of years and look how well it turned out. As long as they fix it soon and drop the price I think they have a distinct edge in the game console space because of the ease of development. Take your intense hatred of Microsoft out of the equation and you will see what I mean.
- macromorgan, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7Pretty darn close. $50 off $399 is 12.5%. $100 off $599 is 16.7%.
- strictnein, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Because the major cost in creating a game is the actual media it comes on, right? Get a clue.
- estvir, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4And you post on Destructoid, people already hate you enough, no need to fuel it.
- gwolf, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I agree, I have heard it's more like producing a Hollywood block buster when before it was a dozen people.
- schoate09, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5Still a Pain in the Ass to send back. Shouldn't be that way.
- driftwood07, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3on this note, companys barely make any profit, and in many cases /lose/ money on the sale of consoles. that loss is made up with software sales and peripherals like controllers, memory cards, ...
- gwolf, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4I expect a general price cut soon, this is the same thing that happened with the PS3. Except this won't be an inventory clearance sale.
- LordVance, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Yup... production companies definitely decided a raise from say, $50 a game to $60 a game was a good idea on a whim. It's not like they have corporate analysts studying market trends over long periods of time making a very educated decision on the matter. Nope, it was Bob from the art department who thought it would bring in more dough, and they just rolled with it.
Manufacturing may not be a huge price point... but look at the astronomical increase in the production cost of a AAA title over the past 15 years, I think we have earned the right to raise costs a little bit. - nwoolls, on 10/10/2007, -6/+8Bet you could get a betamax player cheap too. That also plays out-dated formats.
- P5ycHo, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Because people don't have an UTP connection in the living room? Because they don't want a cable to run through the house? Because it's too much work to set it up wired? Why would you NOT go for the wireless kit?
- JayD16, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Theres a few things wrong with Reed's statement. You really only rebuy something when the new player can't play the old format. The PS3 can play DVDs but its not like DVD players could play VHS. This brings me to the 2nd point. The PS3 can upscale too so even your old collection gets a boost...
- ericrous, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2No kidding. I can remember paying $30-$50 for games for the Atari 2600. And that was in the early 80's. Adjust that for inflation, and $60 for a modern game is NOTHING.
- ericrous, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Well maybe if your dad would stop drinking scotch and get a job, you could have a decent game system too, Kenny.
- navster15, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I understand them not dropping the price on new games, but the platinum hits lineup needs to be refreshed. Why exactly is GRAW 1 still near full price when GRAW 2 is already out?
- DarkShroud, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3My crappy generic 25" TV that I used mostly for gameing lasted 7 years before it broke. My $100 NES is still running. I paid +400 for my 360, it had better last for more than 1 year, not a few months and then burn out.
- Firehed, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3More like $100 off $799, but close enough. At $300, I'd buy a 360 without giving it too much more thought. That extra fifty bucks really makes me examine the game library and accessory prices a lot more. It's as much psychological than anything else.
- dillibob, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3hmm, throw some better games into the deal (im not talking about halo 3) and id buy it
- cave, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Except that DDR games haven't been any good since the 6th Mix. What ever happened to their trademark upbeat eurodance song lists?
- estvir, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1.. and that isn't strange, apparently:
