Streets of Rage, Shemnue, Phantasy Star, just off the top of my head should be somewhere in that list (or at *least* a top 10). This is a rather fitting list for such an anti-violence biased source as MSNBC.

I can't say enough about Golden Axe, I know they're making a remake of the game but it doesn't look all that good. It's one of the first few games of the time that let you play co-op and attack your team mate, mount dragons, and attack these little blue green thieves. If you've never played it, you're really missing out - possibly the best hack n'slash from 90s.

- RobotBuddha, on 03/09/2009, -0/+3I'm still annoyed with how sega pretty much threw phantasy star into the garbage. Excepting dragon quest, it was pretty much the flagship title for having a series of rpgs sharing a concrete history and plotline. Then they turned it into an action/rpg that wasn't even up to gaiden level of relation to the previous offerings. And, following that, a forgettable half hearted universe game. Kind of sad how they brought it back from the amazing phantasy star 4 to end on a low note.
