The AGS editor v2.72 works fine in Wine (http://www.winehq.com/).
Remember, neither the Mac nor the Linux version of the AGS engine works with games that use external plugins (DLLs). Also, videos (AVIs) don't work. - Lambik, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Am I the only one who can't stop using walkthroughs after getting stuck once?
- matriculated, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I guess I should buy the Indiana Jones game before it gets "foxed".
- killinger777, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8Also, get SCUMM VM and play all the old LucasArts adventure classics.

- frant1c, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Great find. Makes me remember my old adventuring days...
- VeganG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There's some very artistic-looking stuff on this list.
Another great feature of adventure games: they're one of the best genres for good, fanmade games. It doesn't take a lot of skill. Most people wouldn't have the technical knowledge to make a first-person shooter, but almost anyone can make an adventure game. - pozzoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Actually, many people has the technical skill to develop the Monkey Island equivalent of a FPS (and that's what this games are, technically and worst of all conceptually).
Think about this: Monkey Island was made on 1990, Doom on 1992. There are lots of engines out there that could help me write a simple fps. - Davedave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you go for Trilby's notes and 6 Days a sacrifice, be sure to play the previous games in the series first. It's an awesome story, and you're only cheating yourself if you miss the first half. 1213 is cool too, but it's more a Prince of Persia / Flashback style platform game than a traditional adventure game.
- caddyalan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Perhaps it was due to evolving marketing. *Something* helped make strategy, RTS, FPS, and MMORPG games the focus of modern PC games...
- pozzoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Because the genre is still stucked in the same old 2D, point-and-click style?
If you see what happens with FPS, RPG, RTS... all of them evolved, from better graphics to better gameplay. They even added elements from other genres (i.e. FPS that have a stronger interaction and puzzles, RPG that have real time action, etc). On the other hand Adventures, almost all the time, are the same point and click I used to play when I was a kid.
If you see this list, there is one indy game, one game with a pirate, and many games with an artistic style similar to the classics.
And don't get me started about the puzzles... Sadly, most of this games rely on the cliche puzzles of combining objects to get an effect.
I used to love graphic adventures. But until someone comes with an updated version of this kind of games, they will remain as a niche for nostalgic gamers. - kpsidekick, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1AGS is freak'n sweet!!! Adventure games are like cool movies you get to interact with. Why is the gaming industry moving away from this art-form? *sigh*
- Daniel001, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Why do no commercial geme developers make these adventures any more? Monkey Island 1 and 2 were the best games ever.
- JustAZombie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Missing is awesome. It's got a great retro feel while still creating a convincingly creepy atmosphere. It's got some interesting, if slightly outrageous plot twists thrown in as well.
It was made with a game creation engine called the OHRRPGCE, if anyone is interested. (http://hamsterrepublic.com/ohrrpgce/index.php/Main_Page.html) - JustAZombie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Whoops. Let me try that link again: http://hamsterrepublic.com/ohrrpgce/index.php/Main_Page.html
