1. Atleast one of these games decides to go "consoles only"
2. Crysis 2 will probably be unplayable on the average card on high details until 2012
3. Almost all these games will be on a console much before or as soon as the PC release - maybe not Stalker 3
4. The best DX 11 game will eventually be a new IP we don't know of yet.
5. Halo 3 will be in the mix at some point time
6. Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 will each outsell all the games in the above list - bossm4n, on 10/28/2009, -1/+1237. Battlefield 3 will require at least two patches to be playable.
- theplop, on 10/28/2009, -2/+121I'm still waiting for all the DX10 games....
- Chris_F, on 10/28/2009, -1/+83People think that just because it's DirectX 11 they are going to have stunning visuals. Just look at Unreal Engine 3 using DirectX 9. It's not so much the API you use as it is how well you use it. Buying a $1000 set of painting brushes doesn't mean you can make beautiful works of art.
- Friendlyhazard, on 10/27/2009, -5/+78will we be saying: "but can it run crysis 2?" ?
- nullx42, on 10/28/2009, -0/+59They forgot Duke Nukem Forver ;_;
- atsguy, on 10/28/2009, -5/+61HOLY ***** ***** IN MY NUT SACK!!!! Alien Vs. Predator i didnt even NO!!!! OMFG I CANT WIAT
- heynow21, on 10/28/2009, -13/+65BF > CoD.
- Prodigy1990, on 10/28/2009, -4/+52I absolutely love the battlefield series, can't wait to play bf3.
- greentable, on 10/28/2009, -1/+46Dugg for excessive use of expletives and terrible spelling.
- MacSuxWindozSux, on 10/28/2009, -0/+38I'm interested to play Battlefield 3.
I think the best one was battlefield 1942. Simply because of the levels with pacific islands, with navy ships you can control or launch boats/planes off of. You could shell the island, or fly over dropping bombs, and the plane flew slow enough that you wouldn't blow past everything like a jet and risk falling off the map every 3 seconds.
None of the other games seem to have been able to reproduce this level of gameplay. - Darksoul, on 10/28/2009, -0/+35Two patches? I don't think your reaching high enough.
- MaxMWood, on 10/28/2009, -2/+36Two words. Alan Wake.
- Lane, on 10/28/2009, -0/+34It's all about optimization. You don't need ridiculous hardware, you need developers to start basically over for Pc copies of games instead of porting Xbox crap that clogs up valuable resources but you know which route will be taken : (
- freshgrease, on 10/28/2009, -0/+33Will we ever see the end of the "but will it run Crysis" meme?
- 4Paws, on 10/28/2009, -0/+32more like DirectX ∞
- blasteker, on 10/28/2009, -0/+30No they didn't. That will be included in the DirectX 16 list.
- BugMeNot2, on 10/28/2009, -4/+32Crysis 2 will be on consoles which are using 4-year-old hardware so you can cross #2 out.
- christianw, on 10/28/2009, -1/+27and in 2 years, apple will finally ship a pc with a directx 11 capable video card along with the 20 core cpu they'll probably ship with.
i mean think about it, the new imac that released last week has a mind numbing ATI Radeon HD 4670 that came out a year ago in it. on that 27" screen with a native res of 2560-by-1440 you could hope to play any of these games listed (with dx10 features only) at a whopping
5 FRAMES PER SECOND
WAY TO GO APPLE YOU SURE DO KNOW HARDWARE!!!! - Lloydinator, on 10/28/2009, -1/+24Thanks for putting my computer further and further into oblivion.
- MatzahMan, on 10/28/2009, -1/+24Does this mean DX 10 was an over hyped flop? Whatever happen to all the DX 10 games that were suppose to come out?
- juliusthecat, on 10/28/2009, -0/+22Why the ***** would you buy a mac to play games on?
- palehorse864, on 10/28/2009, -2/+24What does DX11 do? DX10 was neat for slightly improved shadowing techniques and a more efficient rendering path, but Microsoft put out a lot of fake pics showing a dramatic difference. I believe they even compared something like old Halo: CE models to Crysis models to prove that DX10 was a dramatic leap forward?
DX9 brought a lot to the table when it arrived, DX10 seemed like just a better more efficient DX9. Does DX11 do anything really cool? - chaos7, on 10/27/2009, -3/+24COOL
- Gizza, on 10/28/2009, -5/+26Not necessarily. GTA IV and Assassin's Creed were both on consoles yet required a super computer to run when they came to PC.
- Zarokima, on 10/28/2009, -0/+21So that guy who sold me my $1000 paintbrushes lied? Bastard! I probably shouldn't have bought that volcanoe insurance or handsome cream from him either.
- stevenwalters, on 10/28/2009, -0/+21The big fuss about DirectX 11 is its tessellation feature.
Think of it as a type of hardware supported LOD for geometry.
here's a video that shows what it is:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkKtY2G3FbU&fea ...
It's not a new idea. The ATI 4xxx cards actually already have a tessellator, but now it will be a standard DX feature. - Chris_F, on 10/28/2009, -0/+20Well, for starters, DIrectX 10 brought geometry shaders.
DirectX 11's biggest advantage is probably hardware tessellation, which is a type of geometry effect. - Phatt138, on 10/28/2009, -2/+21As soon as something can run Crysis, yes.
- appleseed1234, on 10/28/2009, -0/+17I absolutely can't wait for Supreme Commander 2.
- summersam, on 10/28/2009, -1/+17An F1 race car?
- supersonicjim, on 10/28/2009, -1/+16I beg to differ as this is my computer http://yfrog.com/6zwindowslivewriterthiscoj
- mandraque, on 10/28/2009, -2/+17have you ever seen one?
- Shaflugi, on 10/28/2009, -0/+14Hopefully not. After all, the article DID say that DirectX11 was actually an increase in speed, unlike DX10.
- KMartSheriff, on 10/28/2009, -0/+13To understand how awesome tessellation is:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkKtY2G3FbU - noirbass, on 10/28/2009, -0/+12Yeah, the only reason Assassin's Creed and GTA IV are so demanding is because they're poorly optimized, cause games like Batman: Arkham Asylum and Crysis look just as good or better, and run more smoothly on my computer.
- Kickinuarou, on 10/28/2009, -0/+11I completely agree, Im so psyched for Bad Company 2, hearing BF3 just makes me so much more happy :)
- Airforcefalco, on 10/28/2009, -0/+119. Blizzard announces that it is postponing the release of Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 the day before it is set to be released.
- supersonicjim, on 10/28/2009, -2/+13Oh dear, I am quaking for the system shock these new DX11 graphics will do to my 8800GT.
I think it might give off too much heat and cause a crysis on the motherboard and the game based pun generator. - slapMeOften, on 10/28/2009, -1/+12Mac people are weird.
- virtorio, on 10/28/2009, -0/+11Since when was Alan Wake coming to the PS3?
Since never, that's when. - BattleChimp, on 10/28/2009, -0/+101942 was better than sex
- murraya, on 10/28/2009, -0/+10As a minor point, I believe Alan Wake is PC/360 only.
- MikeMania, on 10/28/2009, -1/+11omg bf3...
- antdude, on 10/28/2009, -2/+12Bah, I am sticking with DirectX 9.0c (latest whatever month releases). I saw nothing impressive in 10. Maybe 11 will fix that up.
- Vivifyer, on 10/28/2009, -0/+10oblivion <3
- DeaderThanElvis, on 10/28/2009, -0/+10The 8800GT's Half-Life is over. Smash it to Splinters / Sell it.
On the other hand, Just 'Cause DirectX 11 is out, it doesn't mean older cards will be Left 4 Dead. - Thorlord, on 10/28/2009, -0/+9seeing as its apple. they generally dont care too much about DX11
though OpenGL3 performance matters.
then again.. its apple... - summersam, on 10/28/2009, -1/+10Maybe it's a "uber" F1 race car?
- BugMeNot2, on 10/28/2009, -2/+11Alan Wake has actually been put on hold for the PC due to Microsoft. Yeah, they don't really care about gaming on Windows anymore. They can milk console users out of their money far more easily so their Xbox 360 is a much more appealing platform to them.
