- Feckinmik, on 10/09/2009, -4/+40No Call of Duty?
- JamesNapping, on 10/09/2009, -18/+49Halo 3 sucked butthole. If your going to put any of the Halo games put the first one.
- Puppytwo, on 10/10/2009, -5/+26***** article
- socivitus, on 10/09/2009, -1/+16Doom needs to be on here simply because of its history and cultural influence on games. Also, while BF2 is a good game, it's too high up. And I agree with JamesNapping, if you're going to put a Halo game on the list at all, it should be Halo CE.
- Th3Wh1teRabb1t, on 10/09/2009, -2/+17Battlefield 2. Yes!!!! Still playing that game after all these years. So much fun.
- CourageWulf, on 10/09/2009, -1/+13Good list bust tempted to bury for no Duke Nukem 3d.
- ummcordell, on 10/10/2009, -7/+19Terrible list. Halo 3 better than TF2? Are you ***** kidding me? Buried.
- bratterscain, on 10/10/2009, -8/+19Where is _________? ***** list. The list I'd make would be perfect and everyone would agree on every single game on it in that exact order. There's no site out there that can put together a top 10 game list better than this random guy on digg. I'm so ***** perfect.
- kostritzer1984, on 10/10/2009, -6/+15That is one of the worst lists I have ever seen on here! No Call of Duty and the Halo they pick is the weakest of them all. Buried.
- Ellrick, on 10/10/2009, -2/+9TF2 is ranked FAR too low.
- jnuffnuffnomnom, on 10/10/2009, -1/+8duke nukem forever number 1
- freshgrease, on 10/10/2009, -1/+8Halo 1 - 3 would rank higher on my list if annoying retard children (not real mentally handicapped people....the idiots who choose to act like it) could be muted or placed in a pre-16 year old league (or have their Xbox 360 explode).
- MaTT2011, on 10/10/2009, -8/+15Halo over TF2?
Jesus christ.....thats terrible. Thats like saying a ***** sandwich is better than steak. - Ninh, on 10/10/2009, -2/+9Tribes was excellent .. I actually used to play it with a trackball instead of a mouse .. made for smooth sniping.
- gixxer600, on 10/10/2009, -1/+6buried you
- tanmaker, on 10/10/2009, -0/+5While I agree that Halo 3 definitely should not be on this list, neither should Halo CE. Halo 2 should be in that spot, and it's because of the online multiplayer. Halo 2 revolutionized how companies dealt with the online aspect of a game, most notably, matchmaking.
- opitica, on 10/10/2009, -0/+4top 10 multiplayer fps according to digitalbattle.com. theres nothing i love more than getting great info from an obscure dime-a-dozen gaming website (ffs one article is "Lil Wayne has a modded Xbox?")
- moirende, on 10/10/2009, -0/+4I still vividly remember carting my PC down to a buddy's place and playing networked Doom, the first time we'd ever managed to make something like that work. It was AWESOME. The first rocket that exploded near someone it was like... we cannot believe we are doing this.
Personally, though, my favorite multiplayer FPS experiences were mostly Half-Life. At the place I worked at the time there was about six of us who loved that game. On Fridays after work we used to bring in Pizza and beer and play until 2:00am. Ah, "Rats" level... I was wicked deadly with that crossbow.
The first time we networked two Xboxs and played an eight player local game of Halo was pretty fun, too.
Man, we also loved loved networked Diablo, Warcraft II and Starcraft. A buddy got a job as the IT guy at a software development company about two blocks from my apartment... about four of us were down there all the time. The cries of agony after "one more level" (followed by about 3 hours of trying to get all your stuff back after a horrible death deep in some dungeon) were legion in Diablo. Memories.
Then, of course, came wives and kids for most of us and the declining twitch reflexes of age, and those days ended. Now we content ourselves with Rock Band (those custom ION drum kits are SO awesome). - KMye, on 10/10/2009, -1/+5My feeling is, if there's a rationale for putting an old-school Mario game in the top-3 of most "Best All-Time Video Games" lists (which I think there is), then the there's a definite argument for Doom or Doom II being somewhere in this list as well...
- inactive, on 10/10/2009, -1/+5Day of Defeat and TFC were better than TF2 or Battlefield series. Ah the memories of DoD_Caen and TFC's Hunted and Canal Zone *sniff sniff*
- kingnova, on 10/10/2009, -0/+4No *****. At minimum, Doom II and co-op mode. That was a revelation.
- KMye, on 10/10/2009, -0/+4So, the first time me and a friend managed to connect modem-to-modem, in Doom: revelation. Then, DWANGO! Did you experience this? Simultaneous 4-player deathmatch?? My head asplode...
- watchudo, on 10/10/2009, -1/+4bf1942 is so much better, imho. it was such an epic game for its time, and is still my favorite game. but yah, bf2 was and still is a great game.
- staticshadow, on 10/10/2009, -0/+3No Planetside?
- sparkmonkeyz, on 10/10/2009, -0/+3I wouldn't say put the first one for multiplayer, I enjoyed the Halo 2's mulitplayer much more, but then again I also enjoy Halo 3's multiplayer. I think all the Halos should go down, just like they had counter-strike.
- bales2552, on 10/10/2009, -1/+4I really think COD 4 should have been on there. So should Modern Warfare. I don't care that it hasn't been released yet but we all know it will be amazing.
- palehorse864, on 10/10/2009, -0/+3This has nothing to do with bobbing reticles. That's something else entirely. I'm talking about big reticles so that the bullets spray all over to compensate for the flaws in the aim. You could aim with a d-pad if the reticle was designed to shoot across half the screen, but that doesn't mean the controller is good.
The XIM360 is a poor example because all the compensation is there on the controllers and the XIM360 itself is still working in the somewhat convoluted manner of a controller. If you could take away aim assist completely and have native kb/m you would see the difference, but the XIM360 is just interpreting mouse movements into analog joystick inputs. It basically has to fake it, and while it's a nice idea, it's largely imperfect compared to how it works natively.
As for being upset about video card prices, I payed less for my video card than a 360 or ps3 costs, even after they've dropped prices, and manage better settings on the same games at higher resolutions and with AA on where XBOX or PS3 may have nothing to eliminate jaggies. I"ve seen the weird looking shadows on 360 games like Farcry2 and don't see it on the PC. - GKaushik, on 10/10/2009, -3/+6Goldeneye should be number 1.
- inactive, on 10/10/2009, -0/+3too many people playing cs that absolutely play way too often, no fun
- hawk196, on 10/10/2009, -0/+3^someone who obviously has no idea what Tribes is like
- kingnova, on 10/10/2009, -1/+4Doom II co-op mode.
That is all. End of story. List buried for overlooking the precursor to all that is holy. - alexhud, on 10/10/2009, -1/+4dugg for cs #1
- burden555, on 10/10/2009, -0/+3As I guessed, my old beloved CS 1.6 makes it to the number one spot. de_dust2 is the most played multiplayer map of ANY game. CS definantly deserves that #1 spot.
- spectre51, on 10/10/2009, -0/+3Actually the second would be the better choice as it had the online multiplayer with its matchmaking system which most companies still can't get right.
- scoottie, on 10/10/2009, -0/+3No Doom? the one that started it all.
- spectre51, on 10/10/2009, -0/+2I usually have to mute everyone or close to it everytime I play.
- Sil369, on 10/10/2009, -1/+3Duke. Nukem. Forever.
- palehorse864, on 10/10/2009, -1/+3I think a lot of FPS gamers tend to frown on aim assist and auto aim in the multiplayer arena even if everybody has it. I've played Halo 3 at a friend's house and found I was doing better hitting him by just getting my reticle in the general area while he danced around and letting it follow him. I hit him a bit before, but once I took my finger off the thumbstick and quit aiming for him, I tended to hit a lot more.
Even without aim assist, a number of console FPS games are geared to compensate for the sloppy aim of thumb sticks. Weapons with a lot of spread so it's more like aiming a sawed off shot gun than a more accurate weapon. Halo 1 had a huge reticle to compensate for aiming problems and the gun sprayed all over. Considering half of an FPS is aiming and the other half is movement, I don't think some people take console FPS's too seriously. It would be interesting to throw in a game with highly accurate weapons and no aim assistance of any sort into a multiplayer console fps and see how it goes.
Console companies could make a decent FPS system if they replaced one analog stick with an optical trackball of some sort, maybe one the left hand. Some controllers have been designed with this in mind, but it hasn't seen mainstream acceptance in the console world. - adml_shake, on 10/10/2009, -3/+5TF2? I would have put TFC on there myself, my friends and I still play the hell out of that. We do like TF2, but the original usually pulls us back.
- zabean, on 10/10/2009, -0/+2Dugg for tribes. Been playing that for ten years straight.
I should probably go outside or something though. - CanUTube, on 10/10/2009, -0/+2For a console, at least
- inactive, on 10/10/2009, -0/+2no return to castle wolfeinstien no dice, and i never had fun with cs or cs source
- Narishma, on 10/10/2009, -0/+2Those descriptions are full of errors. He says Quake 2 is the first game that allowed mods but Doom started that 5 years before. He says Quake 3 was "minimalist in eye candy and aesthetics", but it was the best looking game when it was released...
- waynehoggett, on 10/10/2009, -0/+2LAME LIST BURIED!
- AngryDeuce, on 10/10/2009, -1/+3I wasted SOOOOOO man hours playing Quake 2 online LOL
And yeah, no COD? - HottLumpiaz, on 10/10/2009, -0/+2I was a sniping machine at Battlefield 2.
- htiawe, on 10/10/2009, -0/+2BF1942 is in it. Read the article.
- geogeer, on 10/10/2009, -0/+2Needs Duke Nukem 3D (kickin' ass and chewing bubblegum, and I'm all outta bubblegum) and Marathon (They're everywhere!)
- inactive, on 10/10/2009, -0/+2If you can put Tribes on there, you can put Doom on there.
I think the writer has to be a bit too young to know firsthand what the milestones were.
And of the three Halo games... number three? Come on. -
