- iluvatar, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17thank you, Nostradamus!
(just kidding, man. I can't wait either!) - trc0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5thats why a "regular" controller is also being introduced:
http://www.joystiq.com/media/2006/05/wii_shell.jpg - sp1keNARF, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5agreed... it should be higher on the list
- Blueshrike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Red Steel has supposedly had significant work done on it since the E3 demo you see in this movie. Both in graphics and control. We'll see if it pans out in the end, but it certainly did need some work. Consensus seems to be that MP3's controls were good.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Because it doesn't show the full article in the main page, noobsauce.
- julienbh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's all over the net, dude.
http://wii.nintendo.com/home.html - Electrox3d, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It was really hard controlling link with the wii controller. I liked every game w/the wii controller, except the Gamecube type games ported over (Zelda, and metroid) I think you have to change the way the game is from the ground up when you use the wii. for instance, shooting arrows should magnify where your aiming.
- jetpig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3yeah with the steering setup... that's gonna be awesome
- AmazingAndrex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Umm, Madden is one of those videos, RTFA.
- mrgreen4242, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Normally I would say that a game like HAMMER looks lame, but with the Wii controller it could actually be pretty cool. Watching the video, I am assuming that the red dot is where the user was "pointing" and at first it looked like it was really unresponsive and hard ton control. Then, as the game goes on you can see he gets better at it and starts succeed in making the moves he wants everytime. Looked like it could be fun swinging a big ass hammer around and crushing robots!
Assuming good multiplayer (co-op, deathmatch, teamplay) and some sort of cool customization/upgrade purchasing system, this could turn out to be kind of a sleeper hit for the Wii. - smithfly114, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3down boy.....
- jetpig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2look at the start of excite truck. it's got a genius way to steer a car.
- darthbator, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The Wii is just what I have been looking for. I feel like games have grown stale and tired in the past years. The Wii looks to deliver a brand new way to interface with the console, that's a winner in my book! Those videos all look great, I'm so excited for Zelda it's just sick. the Wii has easily brought me back into the fold as a Nintendo fan and it's not even out yet =P
- kakwakas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2They said something about it would be too fast, they tried it, people would feel sick after a while, etc. I just hope there's something for it in the options.
- underthewether, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2pretty cool, i hadn't seen red steel gameplay footage yet. i don't quite understand why they don't use the wiimote like a mouse to control the games. it looks like the crosshair can move around the screen and you can only turn when the cursor goes to the edges of the screen. maybe there is a good reason for this, but i can't figure out what.
- reddevil3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I don't know about you guys but the first person aiming in Red Steel and MP3 looks a bit uncomfortable. Hopefully it'll be more mouse like rather than the aim just moving in a specific 'square'. The games should offer both options.
- bpwwhirl, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Very nice list. I hadn't seen most of the videos yet. A must see.
- SnowBladerX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2My thoughts exactly, I am looking forward to Excite truck, I might just pick up a WII on launch day.
- Blueshrike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Cannot wait for Excite Truck. I am probably unrealistically hoping that it retains most of the gameplay of Excitebike. So far, the videos look promising.
Of the launch titles, 100% getting on day 1 include the above, Metriod Prime 3, and Zelda. - rocke86, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"I might just pick up a WII on launch day."
Good luck fighting all the ebayers and super mothers. This is going to be the most sought after item this holiday. - jknevitt, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3It would be pretty sweet for a Star Wars game ... imagine swinging a WiiMote around like a lightsaber. :)
- grimmthething, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6I am adding these to my video list of Wii games.
http://www.grimmthething.com/other/wii.htm
Zelda will be my most anticipated - XStatic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The audio in Super Mario Galaxy is really funny.
Sounds like an iconic gamer geek in the background... - ronaldst, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I was thinking of getting an Xbox360 with DOA4. But for some unknown reason, I have to play Wii sports. I hate sports. O_o
- tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4You can read the rest of my comment after the jump.
OK, now you're here, why-o-why do blogs say 'xyz continues after the jump'. What jump? There's no ads in the content. There's no interruption to the content. Why say it?!
Right, got that out of my system. Dugg this, good collection of what there is to look forward to. - ka0tic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You know when I saw Excite Truch at E3, I was like kinda skeptical because it really didn't look all that exciting footage on G4 but after watching this video, I believe that it could give Burnout a run for its money.
- Pigeon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well it looks like I'll be playing Sonic Wild Fire in the next couple of weeks then ^^
- Daisy88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hey, as a gamer girl, any console game is fine with me ;P or any gaming system-ness for that matter.
- kuranimo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Excite Truck's video should be moved up the list. Apart from the classics (Zelda, Metroid, Mario etc) that was the most exciting video!
- Blueshrike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1For me, it's not a matter of what to play *through* first, but a matter of which one I pop in the Wii first. I'll likely be bouncing between all my titles, just like I did with the GC when it came out:
Wave Race, Super Monkey Ball, Rogue Leader, that was a tough one too.
If the decision had to come right now, here's what I'd do: Put Metroid Prime 3 in first, play through the "tutorial level", save, put Zelda in, and do the same. Then it'd be up to what I felt like. - rysolag, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1waa psh
- MoeWasHere, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's nonsense!
I have a better idea. Program the wiimote to work on top of a surface (or 'virtual' surface even). Let's assume this surface is a table top (to mimic a mouse pad). Now any movements on the level of the table (or below the plain of the virtual surface) will be accepted as 2D input just like a mouse's. If they raise the wiimote above this plain (virtual or real) to within a few millimeters, then the input is not accepted (save for button presses of course - but not movement). This would sort of be like a 'boolean plain'. That is, anything past a certain 2D plain in 3D space would be accepted and anything else wouldn't.
And there you have it - a WiiMote Optical Mouse implementation!
CONS: You would need to play on a surface like a table top and move the wii around (pointing down like a pen) to get the easiest mouse control (i'm sure most wouldn't mind tho). Using it with a virtual plain in 3D space might take a lot of getting used to. You would obviously need to calibrate this plain before playing.
PROS:You could play on the wall, on your lap, on air, on anything! A nice thing would be to make a 'virtual plain' parallel to the screen and you. This way when playing an FPS you could just _almost_ point at your enemy's head to for great accuracy. But most of all: YOU COULD PLAY almost ANY PC COMPUTER GAME ON A WII. I could easily see something like StarCraft or CounterStrike being made on this thing without too much trouble.
Sorry for the long post. Opinions? (Anyone want to start a business endeavor with me?) - PSPDS, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1thank you for posting this. This is SWEET!
- idiotsrule, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm having a real hard time deciding what game to play first, Metroid or Zelda. The first two Prime games were two of my favorite games of all time and then there is Zelda which never disappoints. Maybe Metroid first just because it can probably be finished in under 20 hours. I've heard rumors that Zelda could hit 100 hours if you go for 100%. What a wonderful dilemma to be in. . .
- ktear, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3i feel two sided about the controller. it seems to be an innovative next-step in video game experience but i am afraid that this new device will hinder certain genres of games, sports in particular. However, the Wii Sports tennis demo looked very appealing
- marioluigi123, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0How is 'just swinging' worse than just pushing a button?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Top 25 Wii Videos:
http://digg.com/gaming_news/Top_25_Wii_Videos
Shows how the Wiimote is used to play each and every launch title. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3enough with these ingame videos, start showing how people are using the WII controller during game play.
be more interesting to see how people react using the new controller during the game then watching just the gameplay - idiotsrule, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I've heard the issue with the wiimote vs the mouse is that the wiimote is always responding to motion whereas a mouse can be picked up off the surface and become neutral. For example if you turned left 45 degrees with the wiimote you would be literally shooting to your left instead of at the screen. Not sure if I am explaining this right but hopefully you know what I mean. Anyone else have a better example?
- dancpsu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Picking up the mouse could be simulated by a button. Maybe in order to use the Wii-mote to move, you would have to hold down a button, and lifting up the button would be like lifting up the mouse. I don't even think about lifting up my mouse when I do anymore. It used to annoy me in Wolfenstein 3d, and I hooked up a trackball instead, but now the mouse doesn't bother me.
What would have been the best though is if Microsoft had replaced one of the analog sticks with a laptop-style trackball for Halo. That would have been a good thing to combat the Wii gameplay with. - slimthps, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3not many of those were even impressive. madden looks like gamecube madden?
- Daisy88, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0hmm..well "imo" i think that SSBB (Super Smash Bros. Brawl) should make teh top 10. From what i've seen it looks like its definately gonna be a really gewd and addicting game..just like teh first two.
Free online gameplay..FTW.. >:D - slimthps, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Wii tennis wasn't applealing at all. All you do is swing the Wiimote at a certain time. That is all you control in the game. Not very revolutionary if you ask me.
- Wavey, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Hmm, maybe I'm getting too old and jaded.
#10. Neat way to steer, but too arcade-looking. Ludicrously long jumps result in little damage. The car rolls like it's buoyed by helium.
#9. Decent, I guess, but I'm not much of a football fan. The players look a bit stiff.
#8. WTF?
#7. I'm not into Sonic the Hedgehog.
#6. Looks like a typical lame hack-and-slash, and that red streak is actually distracting and annoying.
#5. Something about the textures in this game just makes me think "meh..."
#4. Has some promise...although what is shown in the video is really nothing that I haven't seen before in a zillion other FPS games.
#3. I'm not into Mario games.
#2. This looks like a fun way to play tennis. Although, for me, after a while, all video tennis games just become high-tech pong.
#1. Looks cool!
Admittedly, I've never really been a console gamer -- pretty much stuck to PC games --so maybe I'm coming at these from the wrong perspective. Or maybe they'll look and play a heck of a lot better than what I'm assuming from just looking at videos of them. Am I off-base here? Missing something? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3Isnt this a little late? Not trying to troll here.
- tomsentest, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2hehe, bad quality though
