- internetisscary, on 11/03/2009, -0/+18I'm still holding out for an epic Pong novelization.
- MrScotchBoy, on 11/03/2009, -0/+15Dugg for Princess Peach inexplicably dunking a basketball in a sewer.
- bixby1, on 11/03/2009, -0/+15It must have taken balls to write the Mega Man 2 book. Going on little to no information and making ***** up as you go along FTW.
- Peachi, on 11/03/2009, -2/+14Myst must be a terribly boring book.
He walked intot the room, looked around, and left the room. - thegamingguy, on 11/03/2009, -0/+10One thing I noticed was in almost all of those, the book companies seemed to lower the quality of the covers too. So in this case you could pretty much judge the books by their covers.
- FreakyT, on 11/03/2009, -0/+10I'm so tired of people dissing the Final Fantasy movie -- it was actually pretty good, and even got 4 stars from Roger Ebert. People just didn't like it because it had absolutely nothing to do with Final Fantasy.
- angrytortilla, on 11/03/2009, -0/+9Beep... bop... beep........ bop... beep........................ bop
- rockon4life45, on 11/03/2009, -0/+8Luckily the Halo novels are surprisingly good. So are the Splinter Cell novels. I'd say Rainbow Six too but it was a book first.
- MassoukenBomb, on 11/03/2009, -1/+8I actually owned those Resident Evil books. The scariest thing in them wasn't the zombies, but the prose!
- casspa, on 11/03/2009, -0/+6Dugg for the concept of sneaking up on Princess Peach while she's exercising.
- thejenigma, on 11/03/2009, -0/+6I actually read the Doom novel...
And bought the second one...
-_- - fragomatik, on 11/03/2009, -0/+6"Reading is fundamental! And not very fun."
<facepalm> - stockwitch, on 11/03/2009, -2/+8The game did suck, but the novel was actually rather good, as far as those things go.
- Julie188, on 11/03/2009, -0/+6Normally, I think the book is always better but when it comes to video games, the game is always better.
- V3n0M, on 11/03/2009, -0/+5Dugg for Planescape:Torment and link to fan written novelization I never knew existed!!
Dugg for NOT including the Gabriel Knight books which are the BEST novelizations I've ever read. - VikingBeatbox, on 11/03/2009, -0/+5My parents decided that buying me that Mega Man 2 book when I was a kid was a good idea. They're divorced now.
- mikek814, on 11/03/2009, -0/+5wait they are working on Mega Man 3
- MaTT2011, on 11/03/2009, -0/+5I LOVED those books when i was young, and refuse to apologize for it. =D
- nepidae, on 11/03/2009, -0/+4fun ... fundamental. HAHAHAHAHA no.
- kinseyincanada, on 11/03/2009, -0/+4i actually have that Doom book!
- Strongo, on 11/03/2009, -0/+4It's clear they didn't read a lot of these. The Myst Books kicked major ass. I'd never get down on a novel for being, *gasp* descriptive. Besides, it fleshed out a great back story that the video game barely covered.
- PleaseJustDie, on 11/03/2009, -0/+4if I wrote Myst: The Book, it would have a lot of passages like this:
He wandered aimlessly around the island examining everything in sight hoping for some clue that might possibly give a hint as to what the hell is going on and where to go next from here. Suddenly, while examining a tree, the trunk opens to expose a giant elevator. Without hesitation at the new place to explore he jumps into the tree and goes down the elevator.
On the other side he wanders aimlessly around under the island examining everything in sight hoping for some clue that might possibly give a hint as to what the hell is going on and where to go next from here. [etc] - directedition, on 11/03/2009, -0/+4It has Gaia, it has a character named Sid. That's good enough for me. The movie kicked ass.
- end3rthe3rd, on 11/03/2009, -0/+3Hey look its Kyle Reese in Metal Gear.
Don't believe me?
http://www.critical-hits.com/wp-content/uploads/20 ... - Joemanji, on 11/03/2009, -0/+3Weird- I was just thinking about King's Quest being turned into a movie today!
I should lay off the weed... just a little. - tehrich, on 11/03/2009, -0/+3Only the second? Not the third and fourth as well? I loved those books, did my book reports in school on 'em. :D
- browwiw, on 11/03/2009, -0/+2One the other hand, the Star Wars: Republic Commando series by Karen Traviss is pretty badass.
- badqat, on 11/03/2009, -0/+2Indeed! Nolan Bushnell has waited too long for such an honor.
- SP1620, on 11/03/2009, -0/+2Wheres the list of best video game Novelizations? I vote for the Mass effect books, they were pretty good IMO. They detail before and after the game takes place though...
- angrytortilla, on 11/03/2009, -0/+2From the moment I saw the headline I was thinking of the Doom book. Never bought it, but always secretly wanted it.
- Carrot1991, on 11/03/2009, -1/+3I know It's Halo and Digg hates Halo and whatever but I have to admit, as a Halo fan, I found all Six Halo novels to be incredibly well written, fleshed out interesting side stories and provided exciting additions to such a brilliant universe. I believe they're well worthy of recognition and those even remotely interested in Halo lore should read them. (Especially 'The fall of Reach')
- volacide, on 11/04/2009, -0/+2Kinda like how Resident Evil 4 and 5 are great games but TERRIBLE Resident Evil games.
- alex7575, on 11/03/2009, -1/+3Good luck finding a gamer that reads anything besides game reviews and walkthroughs...
- jon02129, on 11/04/2009, -0/+2Wooooops, looks like i misread your comment. I missed the "NOT". A thousand pardons.
- kRYPT, on 11/03/2009, -0/+2I actually remember really enjoying that book when I read it ... the author is right in that it's hard to say if it's the best or the worst of the video-game-novel genre, it really straddles the line.
- dtfinch, on 11/03/2009, -0/+2I'm curious what the "top 10 best" list would look like.
- akohut, on 11/04/2009, -0/+2Wouldn't a better list be "Top 10 Good Video Game Novels?" I was under the impression all of them were terrible. Who the ***** reads books based on video games? Like those goddamn "Halo" novelizations. It's like reading books based on the "CSI" TV series. ***** idiots.
- Crono, on 11/04/2009, -0/+2I mostly agree. Except about the Myst Reader. I think that is a fantastic book.
Probably the best video game novelization ive read.. - Halsfield, on 11/04/2009, -0/+2I also enjoyed the movie. I think people went in thinking it was going to be advent childrenish and when they didn't get it they tuned out the rest.
I do think they threw away some of the characters, and the ending just didn't sit well with me. I was expecting the woman to calm the ghosts and/or somehow revive her love interest through gaia but it just kinda ended. The tech in the movie was great (the jelly parachutes, the ships, dream-recorders, the consoles they use that minority report stole) and it was fun to watch if you didn't expect cloud to show up and dice the enemies with his blade and bahamut. - ducttape36, on 11/04/2009, -0/+1zing!
- AmnesiacJack, on 11/04/2009, -0/+1Those books were awesome when I was kid.
I remember talking my parents into buying it for me when I saw it for sale. I think I sat there and read it all in almost one sitting. People might hate on them but I read the whole series (I'm pretty sure any ways) and the books were really good IMO even if they did get some what weird. - jon02129, on 11/04/2009, -0/+1Err, read the headline again: Top 10 _TERRIBLE_ Videogame Novelizations.
- Darkangel754, on 11/04/2009, -0/+1The Metal Gear Solid novel really is the worst, they completely changed snake's personality. Snake kills every guard he meets and even goes out of his way to kill extra guards!
The author actually has a scene where Snake yells "Merry Christmas!" while punching out a guards, he then has Snake say "Oh, I forgot to mention....Christmas came early this year"
ughhhhhhh - jon02129, on 11/04/2009, -0/+1How about a Choose Your Own Adventure Pong?
http://paperconsole.com/# - V3n0M, on 11/04/2009, -0/+1All good! Digg on fellow digger!
- thejenigma, on 11/13/2009, -0/+1yup
- V3n0M, on 11/04/2009, -0/+1I got it... Planescape's official book was TERRIBLE (but I'm glad I got the link to the other one) and Gabriel Knight books were not terrible, so I'm glad they weren't on the list. :)
- KingGorilla, on 11/03/2009, -1/+2It's a good movie it's just not a good Final Fantasy movie
- volacide, on 11/04/2009, -0/+1Holy *****, I didn't even know these existed. They're worth the read? Because I love the world of Mass Effect.
- Yargh, on 11/04/2009, -0/+1They certainly are not worth...anything.
