- Oblivion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Personally, I feel like the state of the video game industry is really sad right now. 90% of games released on the consoles are crap, it is obvious that the publishers wanted to make a quick buck (and they do.) I actually have a part time job at Gamestop, and you wouldn't believe how many people have bought games that have recieved horrible reviews, games like "50 Cent: Bulletproof." Personally, I am just going to play games on the PC. Strategy games are better on the PC platform, and you get games like WoW that have unlimitted replayability. I'm sick of the lame console "Grand Theft Auto" and "Halo" clones.

There is no depth to consle story telling, and quit claiming you have better graphics. Half Life 2 which was totally overshadowed by that horrible Halo 2 because it "was one of the first to start online gaming" well buddy PC still has bettr online support and has had it for years. Back to half life 2 it was far superior not only in its rich storytelling, but its graphics are still far superior to CoD 2 on the 360 with HDR and textures that would seem to be a photo if not for your HUD and slightly less beautiful character models.

All EA did was basically takeover the successful mod team that created Desert Combat and have them create BF2 on a new engine, which is the buggiest piece of crap I've ever seen. Then to top it off, they screwed over the developers they hired. There's nothing original about this game. And I agree the GTA San Andreas killed the series for me--worst game in the series. FEAR is incredible and there's not enough good things to say about Civ IV. Sid pwns.

- Arramol, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@serpentor - I've been playing the AoE III demo (you can get it at www.ageofempires3.com) and it's pretty self-explanatory. Haven't actually bought the game yet, but not having played the first two hasn't tripped me up at all in the demo.
I have to agree that it just seems pointless to spend another $400 on a console to get games that are generally either the same or inferior to PC titles. 2006 looks like a potentially amazing year for PC games. Spore and Oblivion both sound extremely promising. Haven't grabbed Civ 4 yet, but I'm looking forward to it. - drysz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0F.E.A.R. rocks and I have the $2600 PC to prove it. hehe.

I've been thinking of picking up Guild Wars or WoW, since the MMORPG I'm in now will probably end up taking home the Biggest Disappointment for 2006 [Matrix Online won the Biggest Disappointment for 2005].

FEAR for example, is one of the worst, poorly coded & implemented pieces of server software I have ever encountered. It is so bad that many GSP's are not offering the game server for rent for online play. There is an average of 300 servers online at any time and 300 players total.

First off, I agree with Buddybot111's comment, and secondly, all this exaggeration over a 3000 is BS and most everyone (the smart ones) know it. Hell, I've been running on a rig that cost me about 1100 dollars I bought almost 2 and a half years ago, and the only upgrade I made was adding 512MB more ram, and the ONLY thing I can't play well right now is F.E.A.R. Sure, I might not experience all the dynamic lighting, anti-aliasing, or other special effects certain games have to offer, but I could honestly care less. The funny part is, even being deprived of certain key features certain games I own has to offer, the graphics are still hands down better on the PC than they are for their console counterparts (if they even have console counterparts). And for those people who think the PC will die soon, all I have to say is, with games like BF2, WoW, F.E.A.R, and others, PC gaming is far from dieing out completely for a good while. - elfuego, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If you're playing FEAR for the multiplay, you're playing it for the wrong reasons. Anyways, Civ 4 was a good choice... BF2, CoD2, Age3, and Guild Wars should've been lower and FEAR should've been #2. It doesn't take 3 grand to play. It runs pretty damn slick on the $600 rig I bought 18 months ago... runs better than Doom3, actually. And how they got CoD2 to look so good and run so smooth, I may never know.

It's already been happening, look at the Xbox 360 launch list... FIFA '06, Project Gotham Racing 3, NHL 2k6, NBA Live 06, Need for Speed Most Wanted. The only games for it I'd be remotely interested in are made for the PC anyway. If you bought an Xbox 360 for >$400 to play that *****, jokes on you. Wrong, its the best _console_ online experience, no contest I might add, I agree with that. Its also a good choice for casual gamers. But if your either a competetive player or an MMO player xbox live doesnt hold a candle to PC. xbox live is streamlined for noobs and is simplistic so it appeals to casual gamers but as far as quality goes, well, no.
Well I guess its natural that at least a few console noobs would bitch about how consoles are better, but those of us with good pcs will stick with better graphics, controls, games and a superior system.

I've long heard good things about the AoE series. For someone with a powerful PC who's never played any one of them, is there any benefit in playing the first two before trying AoE III? I imagine III has everything the first 2 had and a whole lot more, I just feel I'm doing an injustice by skipping right to the cake. I think BF2 rocks, then again, I've been playing the demo since BF2 was released and haven't even bought the game yet, but I still can't get enough of it. :) I will agree with you though, in games like this, there's always going to be a rather large influx of morons/douchebags whose sole purpose is to lay C4 on friendly vehicles only to blow them up just before a teammate get to it, or my favorite, those idiots who plant C4 right on friendly snipers and blow them sky high while they're trying to shoot opposing team members. News flash, there is no reason for 99% of america to buy a computer for over $500 dollars. I make my living on hardware that is all 4+ years old and have no reason to upgrade it. Now if I used it to play games, I would be broke keeping it up to date. I heard a guy at the Store telling his GF he needed to buy a new $500 video card to play the $50 game in his other hand. that is just stupid talk. By a console and be done with upgrade hell.
--dan - victimofkratina, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Call of Duty 2 was absolutely horrible in my opinion. You can tell they developed it with the Xbox 360 in mind. They wanted to create this game with nonstop action in mind so it wouldnt bore all those console gamers. The triggers were all f'ed up...you could sit back and theoretically kill all the millions of Nazis that poured out of this tiny building, but once you took a few steps forward, and your idiot comrades followed, they suddenly stopped coming out. There would also be times, like in the beginning, where you were to fend off the Nazis with a few teammates, but they would always overrun you. But if you went to they back of the building and stayed out of the fight, the two AI teammates magically took care of the whole rushing Nazi army. The guns sucked too, most of the machine guns you could be right in front of a guy, unload a full clip and he would still be running around, barely wounded. You would always have to aim for a shot right in front of you.
