Yeah, but then you can't do 90-second long darkslide grinds off a third-story roof onto a power line.
And also not die. - jmechy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26holy amazing, those animations are very very good.
- Poddo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25I think it looks a lot more realistic. The weight of the skater, the way he moves with the baord, the fact that it actually looks like the Earth's gravity... I hope they go witha more realistic approach this time around. That would definitely be a new direction.
- GTPBearSuit, on 10/12/2007, -2/+24Bitchin. Hopefully they'll find other ways to update the franchise as well.
- jamsea, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11It was a fun game...
The first 2-3 times.
But now they come out with a "new" one every other weekend, hopefully they'll be some new gameplay stuff in this. - TheComputerMutt, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13It's jaw-dropping if it's real, and if it will actually look like that.
- Disodium, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Whats your point? This could easily be a lighting test to show off the lighting effects as the charecter goes form light to dark
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11you think they will decide to unpolish the animation before releasing the game?
- wastern, on 10/12/2007, -14/+23if i wanted something fully realistic i'd go outside and skateboard
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13wow, he even used the obligatory skateboarder reference: "fag"
- GTPBearSuit, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Yes actually, that's what I meant.
- daroots, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12really nice gfx but tired of this franchise .Apart from gfx ,really nothin' new
- sert, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I can just imagine how they would design the controls on the Wii (god it feels so silly saying that name), like using the controller as a pointer in order to keep your balance on a grind. Flicking it upwards to do an ollie, and it does a certain flip trick depending on how rapid and in what direction you flick.
- Badaudio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6pro skater was the best out of the franchise imo, underground was a novelty
- nymphetamine, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Another thing to notice is how high he went when he jumped. In all the other THPS games, you could jump at least 10 feet, and here you can see him jumping next to the trash can and he barely makes it just as high. Realism is a good thing.
- OwenX, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Looks very nice.... I hope the final product will be as polished as those animations.
- Rice, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7If they can remaster the warehouse with these graphics...
I'd buy the next game. - jguy584, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@mac2492
Sony does ***** like that all the time - Opelious, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I love how fluid it looks, which is quite welcome to the franchise.
Though it may not look AS good on the Wii, I hope it can at least stand up to it in some respects. - bash, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Producing a fake video of this caliber requires much, much more effort than a Photoshop job with, say, the "iPod video". Frankly, I doubt most fakers would find the reward outweighing the effort...although people have been known to hack a couple of videos together to give the illusion.
Not saying that there is NO possibility, but the probability of it is low. - BugMeNot2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The lighting and animations are really good, but they seem to be using low-res textures.
- carpespasm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5well, if you want total realism, then they should make you start out with a new character, unable to barely ollie, make it so when you fall and get hurt, you're less able to perform moves because he's hurt, you can break bones in the middle of a course you're doing awesome on, and populate the cites with things like potholes, deep sidewalk cracks, pedestrians you get knocked over by when you hit them, then we can lengthen the game by making the time it takes to lear new abilities longer, i mean realistic.
games are supposed to be fun, if that involves realism, go for it, if it involves over the top trick lists, god-like balance, and the ability to ollie over large buildings in a single bound, i'm all for it. - mac512k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4the shadows are really nice but you have to wonder if thats gonna cause slow downs with everything happening in the background and the "wide" open space. Cause i'm sure that would suck for tony hawk game.
- bury, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Actually, you tape the controllers to your feet in a sort of Skate-Skate Revolution - excuse me, Skate-Skate Wii style.
- Knoton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Well then lets just compare it to other games in the series http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-8700514604551739304&q=tony+hawk&pl=true
So yeah.... compared to any other skating game it looks amazing. But then maybe you thought it was a new movies trailer or something. - Mac2492, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yes, and if you play for too long your character dies. Don't forget that you need to attend school and college as well... Oh, and you need to take a shower every day or you'll have flies surrounding you.
- Synoptic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5If you're not a fan of the Tony Hawk games, why are you commenting? Go read a book. If the Tony Hawk games were about realism, then we wouldn't play them...we'd just skate. The excitement is in trying to imagine what's possible, and enjoy what's not. The leaked video looks good, and I, for one, am looking forward to the next gen. Dugg.
- Protoss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Actually that is exactly what they are showing off with the darkness, the lighting.
- Steelfox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4If any of you were avid fans of the past TH games, you'll know this is amazing and cool this is.
Awesome stuff. - davidv, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Obviously the textures aren't a priority here, they're barely up to par with playstation 1 stuff, its more of a tech demo for the players model and how much more realistic he/she will move.
That being said I personally believe textures is one of the worst things with the hawk games. Next gen better be all about high res texturing for the next few years. - LexisNexis, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5@streetstealth, he said realistic.
- daroots, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Man, you don't even know who u are speaking to,shhh and stop flaming .
So, Mr. "I know how things works" you should start to learn how to respect others - shit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah, what happened to collecting cash? Collecting ***** that's scattered all over was one of the fun things about THPS2. You see a $100 bill way up high, and have 2 minutes to find out how to get up there -- without getting off your board! (Really, I dislike that feature. Maybe I wouldn't mind it if it controlled half-way decent, but if they haven't got it right in 3 games, then I doubt they ever will.)
- cg0def, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2ok so this is game is for the xbox360? Looks nice but all those shadows make the game anoying. It was easier to see in previous games and while things are supposed to look good not everything realistck is good looking. But then again this is still in early dev stage. Anyway other than the shadows most everything could be achieved with a plain xbox hardware. So still don't see what the big deal is. Yes the next gen consoles are better and they have a ton of potential ( especially the ps3 ) but the software isn't there yet.
- daRoach, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah that and then the first Spiderman on PlayStation right afterwards. That game rocked.
- pigonthewing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@Mac:
Microsoft demonstrated their games for 360 on some Apple G5's.
And the new Splinter Cell screenshots? No way those are gameplay renders. You can see the photoshopping artifacts everywhere.
Game makers almost always release movies and screenshots that far supercede the level of realtime graphics processing capabilities. - Ollin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That reminds me of Thrash : Skate and Destroy...........that game had really cool physics and stuff but the game play was horrible it took forever to pull off any cool moves, but if the new TH looks like that and plays the part too then I'm going to be hooked allllllllllllllll over again.
- anymir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Have you played/seen the last Tony Hawk title? Compared to that, it is.
- Sibertank, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1When I first clicked this link and didn't read the description and saw the video I could have sworn that that was real video footage (asside from the balance meter). Very cool
- shit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I started playing THAW one Saturday morning, and beat Classic Mode and Story Mode on Sick Difficulty by the end of the afternoon. Those games are so damn easy now. THPS3 was the last great Tony Hawk game, and Neversoft needs to realize that the heart of the game is in Classic Mode, and not seeing Steve-O ride a mechanical bull, or bums giving you cash for tricks.
But yet, the play mechanics are so damn fun, I'm thinking of playing it right now... God dammit. All I'm saying is, Neversoft should beef up Classic Mode, put in a ton of levels (give me everything from THPS1 on) and make a harder-than-sick difficulty for those of us who can, gee I don't know, rip through a $50 game in HALF A DAY. - Mac2492, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I doubt they'd release such good footage then end up having a mediocre game that's nothing like the footage. That would be crushing to whoever publishes and develops the game.
- sidebuster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thrasher topped TH in my book. I liked the fact that for the most part, the longest line you could have would be like a ->fliptrick ->grind -> fliptrick out of grind -> manual. Not some of the crap that can literaly go on forever in th (although i like all the TH games)
And for the guy that said if he wanted realism he would go out and skate. Try dropping in on a half-pipe for the first time and not fall (the simplest thing like skating slow and hitting the tiniest pebble can make you fall off your board) - EnronFever, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3....or they could make a different damn game. this crap was old after the first 3 TH games....
no digg. - pbjorge12, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Will developers be willing to take the risk, pouring more money than usual into the Nintendo port to really make it great?"
Supposedly EA will...Which means that other companies should follow suit if it is profitable... - Mac2492, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Actually, you tape the controllers to your feet in a sort of Skate-Skate Revolution - excuse me, Skate-Skate Wii style."
I hope that won't void the warranty... it sounds too fun to resist. - shit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Concept drawings of the Wii version are in this month's Nintendo Power. Here's some of the small article:
"Like SSX on dry land, Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam mixes speed with gravity-defying tricks for a surefire hit on Nintendo's next console. Publisher Activision has tapped franchise new-comer Toys for Bob to develop a game that aims to attract new players to the series while it keeps the Tony Hawk faithful onboard. By using the Revolution motion sensitivity, racers will be able to turn and boost without touching a button. The game will also feature button combinations to pull off tricks that recall the controls for the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater and Tony Hawk's Underground titles." Blah blah blah, more next month.
So you'll need buttons and controller movement to play -- perhaps this is when we need the Wii-mote to be in the classic shell? Because holding it sideways you only have "a" and "b" to hit -- and no way you can do the same combos with that.
Either way, I'm sure this will look great on Wii, and I hope the new controls work out. - modestmouse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I agree to some extent. I'd like to see a game with graphics, physics and animations as good as this demo. That being said, I'd also like to see a return to the stylings of the first title. Video games can impress us technologically by getting better and better at simulating real life conditions, but there will always be some value in the escape they give us from reality. I just like the balance that the first title gave us. The balance was lost in the newer titles. I DON'T want to be Ben Franklin nor do I want to do a 30 mile grind balancing on my fingernail. Hopefully this next installment will be both technically impressive and balanced.
- Mac2492, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is an excellent step for ALL sports games. I'd say that being able to actually see and maneuver your character is a big plus.
- Mac2492, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1People make fake videos but not for trivial things like this.
