"So, using bluetooth, you can control all your media and internet functions with your PSP!"
"How do I play a Playstation 3 game?"
"Oh, well, you just plug...um, you insert....SH1T!" - wordsnatcher, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13"-The Ps3 will take the media center functionality the 360 has even further
-PS3 will serve as a location free player for the psp, means you can watch the dvd's that you have in your psp on your psp (from anywhere in the world), or any other video files you have on your ps3, though this is still only being planned.
-PS3 will be able to send its files straight to the psp from anywhere in the world, and it can also control its DVR functionalities"
-PS3 will cost $45,000 - Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Though this stuff would be beyond awesome, I really don't think Sony will be able to do it. First off, with no built-in hard drive, where do you store the PVR programs (in other words, users will have to pay an extra $150 for an external HDD). Also, the LocationFree player is about $200 on the market right now. I just don't think they could put the LocationFree player in there combined with the Blu-Ray drive and keep the whole thing economical. I mean, don't get me wrong, if Sony pushes this thing out the door with all these features and keeps it around $400, i'll be the first in line, but I really don't think it's possible

- doddilus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4anyone remember the ps2?
"Here's the world Kutaragi envisions: from your mobile phone, you send an e-mail telling the machine to turn up the air-conditioning at home. "Welcome home," it purrs when you open the front door; it then puts your video e-mail on the TV monitor. You command the PS2 to download the movie you want and play it 30 minutes later. Mid-film, you stop to cue up a video game featuring the movie's main characters. Then you e-mail a virtual friend you met online who also likes this game; you face off against each other. "

yea all of those features made it to the ps2... - myskja, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Got to look for my waders again... This is Sony's usual extreme-hype BS. Going through all the pre-rendered games, exaggerations, theoretical skewed numbers and smoke and mirrors is getting tireing. Sony; Put up or shut the hell up.
- jersey_steve, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4This just in, PS3 to come bundled with Duke Nukem Forever!
- geminitojanus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4***** Christ, what will the PS3 NOT do? Okay, so far we have:
*Bluray
*Hard Drive
*Revolution-esque controller?
*Moon Teleport...wait that's Google.
*CELL PROCESSOR, THE WORLDS MOST LEET PROCESS0R EVAR
*WiFi!
*4-port switch
*USB Ports galore
*Online Game Portal (Xbox "live"-ish)
and the new come'r to the list: *DVR functionality.
The remaining question is will the PS3 do my laundry, feed my pets and service me while I play games with absolutely no replayability due to overemphasis on graphics and non-emphasis on gameplay? And also, will I be able to afford it and any game without taking out a second mortgage? - domokunt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3uh PS3 is VAPORHARDWARE
- w00gy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The article says that this is Sony's long term plan. So little to none of this will be available at launch, then, though firmware upgrades the pieces will come together. And by 2008 you might have what's mentioned here.
- 8bit_Hero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The ps3 will have an itunes type service to let you download HI DEF movies, music, etc
The Ps3 will take the media center functionality the 360 has even further
These were promised with the ps2, along with the HDD, an online service, and the "toy story" quality of the emotion chip.
I call ***** on sony - Xipher, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"They promised the "toy story" quality of the emotion chip"
That was the media that came up with that comparison, not Sony. - jpbleuu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i miss when all gaming machines where meant to just play games
- awa64, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The PS3's going to be a TiVo? Awesome! I've always wanted to pay a monthly charge to use my video game console!
- porterlangley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Bring it Sony! Walk the walk!
- GrimmRaver, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This article is really cool, if its true, then I give Sony mad props. Unfortunately, I've been disappointed by Sony's over promising and under delivering. Where does this guy get this info anyways?
- Herffinator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1lol... we will see. is all this direct from sony....does this guy they are getting this from get fired for all this info haha.... we will see what sony delivers......im sure they'll have their rootkit on it TOO they don't metion that do they...hhhmmm.
- MajorMauser, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Oh Sony you so funny .... you funny hahhahha
- punisher18, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1
prediction the PS3 will cost :
$369.00 - Gerz1219, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sony adds tons of features and people complain? So what if the PS3 is $500, that means for the price of a Radeon 1900XT you get a gaming system more powerful than any PC on the market for $1500 less, and can keep your current PC for standard day-to-day use without upgrading. Frankly I'm sick of AMD/Intel changing sockets and memory/graphics interfaces every year. It makes planning an upgrade path difficult and costly if you make the wrong choice.
And of course DVR will be an add-on, as it should be. If you already have one, don't buy it. If it includes HD capture via CableCard, it will be a more viable option than buying an OEM Media Center PC for $2,000 or paying Time Warner $15 every month. - pongx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1OK peoples. It's time to get back to reality. The PS3 as a DVR? Whoop de freeking do. You can get a DVR for what, like 5-10 bux a month from the cable company? Will you be able to DVR shows while playing the ps3, ummmm no. So where's the big advantage? Well, you can buy sony music and videos and save them on to the external hard drive that hasn't been annouced yet that will probably cost another $100 bux. Wait, doesn't the PS3 need some kind of TV TUNER? Well, add another extrnal device for $50-100 bux. And the initial cost of the PS3? $400 (no hard drive, no games, one boomerang err controller). What a ripoff. This is just Sony's attempt to once again put out an uber-device that nobody will buy. They made the same thing in Japan with the PS2 mutation known as the PSX and it tanked....hard.
Please everybody don't get caught up in fanboyism. The PS3 is just Sony's attempt to "be the center of your digital world" aka make you buy a PSP, PS3, Sony Movies, Sony Music, and Sony Walkmans. The PS3 won't sync with your iPod, it won't sync with Windows. It's going to sync with Sony and that's it. Also, the PS3 WON'T look any more incredible than the 360 already does. If you disagree, check out the Fight Night 3 demo. It looks great and the PS3 version will be completely identical. - indydrew, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The PS3 will not cost $500.00. But the XBOX fanboys would love it to be. When the PSP was announced everyone was saying that it to would cost $500.00. The CEO of Atari was quoted on record as saying $500 would be a miracle if it could launch that cheap. As we all know it launched at $250 in North America. Everyone on every message board and blog was guessing the PSP launch price as $300-$500. These same message boards and blogs where guessing the 360 would launch at $300.00, when it was announced at $400.00 people went nuts. The PS3 will launch this fall in North America for $400. Bet on it.

I should probably rephrase my last comment:
Look back with fondness to your SEGA Genesis and Super Nintendo 16-bit days...how many of you remember saying to yourselves: "You know what would really take this gameplay over the top!? PVR capabilities!"
...exactly - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Study your video game industry history books kiddies.
The Sony hype machine is now chugging along at full speed. Try not to be dissapointed when we learn the truth. - TheFoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Does it still play games too?
- Demagogue, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ill stick with the game-focused revolution...
- kurtm85, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0did anyone think about being able to record on a blue ray disc? you won't need a hard drive to have a DVR.
and as for:
"I'll believe it when my ***** turns purple..." - well if you drink lots of purple Gatorade i can guarantee it ends up purple(i know) - Rajio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0there is no credibility to this post. It is as speculative as all the apple/google related posts on digg.
- Guye, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Whatever.
Standard "I can do anything you can do better" PR crap.
We'll see when the thing materializes what all it can do. - aesir_loki, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Can this information really be trusted, its coming from playstation.com. Its like believing every thing microsoft says about their stuff. I will wait for an independent source.
- prgrmmr736, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What exactly does this mean?
"The Blu Ray Player functionality doesnt cost as much as a stand alone player because the Cell and RSX can take care of alot of the stuff the ps3 will need to do to be able to read the disks" - jpesicka2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i wish someday there will be cheaper, slower, faster, more expensive systems, like gaming pc's that are universal, 1 xbox can play against 1 playstation can play 1 revolution, runnning universal software like pc's, universal os's, different linux build's, kinda like a you get what you pay for type of thing, in which you can play a pc gamer, on your xbox, like a game that can play against someone with a game on a different os like no big deal, it just runs the same

- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"The Ps3 will take the media center functionality the 360 has even further"
Can Sony even use the Media center extender, would microsoft let them do that?
And if they made there own would it not be a huge files and unstable without a harddirve - Bigmrj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Final Price after tax, $1,000,000.00
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0>>>>Oh and the Sony rootkit is vicious.
>>people are so lame, i hate sony rootkit fiasco as much as the next guy, but the sony >>devisions have really *nothing much* to do with eachother.
>>do holes in Microsoft Windows that leave you vulnerable, or when their drm invades >>your privacy, cause you to boycott the XBOX?
Nothing much you say? When I look at this machine, it basically looks like sony's attempt to make the PC obsolete. However, on a PC I can control what software runs on it. Sony doesn't like this so tried to get rootkits on PCs. One of the features announced today is the "automatic firmware upgrades", like on PSP. Listen people, FIRMWARE UPGRADES == BUILT-IN ROOTKIT. The PSP firmwares have mainly been used to control the PSP homebrew scene. (See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_Portable_homebrew )
The PS3 is certainly sexy hardware, and it is even subsidised by Sony to make it cheaper. I for one, however, am not willing to sell my freedom to use my hardware however I feel like. Just like I would never buy a so-called "Trusted computing PC" (See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trusted_computing ) - cha0sth30ry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Based on past history... Sony is really good at hyping something that isn't really great. Until there is something concrete such as a video of real time gameplay and the media center, I don't buy it. In their defense, Microsoft's 360 was somewhat of a disappointment and they pretty much engage in the same tactics.
Frankly I think the winner of this new next gen war will be Nintendo due to their low price and new controller. - iammike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0seriously, where is the credible news source. All i see in this link is a message post with bullets, from an unknown source. no digg till i see a real article somewhere.. .it seems like nobody else in comments has found one either.
- jpesicka2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this is bullcrap, get your crap together microsoft, there talkin throwin out this awesome hardware & you can't even put out a goddamn cover of halo 3, close your goddamn ass-cheeks, get it the hell out, maybe you guys are taking your time so you can release an hd-dvd & dvd version of the game, wait a second, that's it, you guys are waiting to launch your external hd-dvd drive (36GB discs they are, blu-ray 54GB discs) waiting 'til people release hd-dvd's themselves, like movies, or maybe your planning a new media center for vista, maybe just an update, vista possibly november 30, december 1???
- boardo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0as others have said. the sony marketing machine is about to get into full swing starting at E3 in may. They always show trailers or things that are not possible on the console ie) psx and ps2. I loved both of those systems, but they always overhype more then just about any company in the electronics industry. I could really care less about a DVR since I have XBMC. I just want to play good games.
- gnarbuckets, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Since when is anubisosirishades a credible news source? Furthermore why does the "article" only consist of a fan-boy bullet list? What a waste.
- mrpeaches, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yeah...but can it run doom?
- samdu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0For everyone that is saying there was no gaming information mentioned in the article:
"Sony knows that it has to hook hardcore early system buyers with the works best console so the PS3 should be 99.99% game focused for day one. "There are so many games being worked on in the US than people realize." We got our findal hardware in early January and it's even faster than we were expecting. We're going to have a lot of fun just throwing stuff into our game world and trying to get the thing to slow down" -
