- Doomsan, on 03/12/2008, -0/+12Spot on, as time pass by i feel that there's less and less time for me to play games; being an adult sucks sometimes.
- racketboy, on 03/12/2008, -0/+7Thanks -- glad to know I'm not the only one. Hopefully this will get me back on track :)
- jjgames, on 03/12/2008, -0/+6I think this is a great idea. I hope the discussion is good.
- joehobbes, on 03/12/2008, -0/+5I'm all in! I don't know about you all, but I have a nasty habit of getting into games and then putting them down to start something else. Having something like this would definitely help keep me on track :)
- unicronband, on 03/12/2008, -0/+4This is definitely a great idea. I've been playing through FFVI Advance on my DS and it's every bit as gripping as the first time I played it on SNES. I also have a bad habit of starting games and not finishing them, so this could help fight our collective gaming ADD. Guess I'll start digging up the old roms. 1,000 bonus points to you racketboy!
- estvir, on 03/12/2008, -0/+3The Penny Arcade forums have "Let's play!" threads which are kind of like this. They actually have kind of 'rules' you must follow for the thread creation and so on and the last one I recall them doing was Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis (Classic Lucas Arts adventure game) and it went really well.
They also do these on the SomethingAwful forums and they're even more detailed over there. Hell, someone created a small website or so with instructions on how to do one.
But yeah, I'm down for this. - joehobbes, on 03/12/2008, -1/+4I have the most problems with RPGs. Even with good ones, I get to easily distracted a day later and eventually I lose track of where I am in the story.
- racketboy, on 03/12/2008, -0/+2Thanks for your support.
And I'm pretty much the same way. I only seem to finish games that I am absolutely in love with. And sometimes if the last level or whatever is overly frustrating, I'll give up on it then.
Like I mentioned in the post, I'm not expecting everyone to finish each game to completion, but at least having some more motivation and support definitely helps. - AwesomeMonster, on 03/12/2008, -1/+3I'm actually doing something like this now with my old xbox games, It'd be good to have some structure. Just give me a week to finish Stranger's Wrath, amazing game so far.
- inactive, on 03/12/2008, -0/+2its a good idea. the only thing i sort of disagree with is the mentions of playing games like metroid and chrono trigger etc. whats the point of focusing on games that everyone has already played a thousand times?
- inactive, on 03/13/2008, -0/+2i still think playing the seminals is a better experience on your own anyways. i much like the idea better of focusing on more rare, less played, and underrated classics that most people haven't played.
its your gameplan though, you got my full support for the time being :)
- unicronband, on 03/12/2008, -1/+3I'm having that problem with Lost Odyssey right now, but I think that has more to do with the lack of save spots combined with the disc read error problems. Nothing is more frustrating than having a game crash on you and having to replay an hour's worth of ***** you've already been through. Great game though.
- joehobbes, on 03/12/2008, -0/+1Thanks racket for putting this together -- would be awesome if this front paged to get a ton of people involved.
- Shiftgood, on 03/13/2008, -0/+1What about instant classics?
audio surf + chemical brothers + spliff = euphoria
/may cause seizures - joehobbes, on 03/12/2008, -1/+2Oddworld games rock -- maybe racket will feature some of the PS1 originals :)
- racketboy, on 03/12/2008, -0/+1I'll keep that in mind -- they are great games
- racketboy, on 03/12/2008, -0/+1Actually, not everyone HAS played them. Just because they are popular, doesn't mean everyone has played them. Think about how many landmark games there are out there. Hundreds, right? Now think of how much time it takes to fully appreciate each of those games. Do you really think everyone has devoted enough time to play each any every one of those games?
Even if there aren't a ton of people that haven't played a particular game, what is wrong with playing it again and getting a fresh perspective on it? Now if you JUST played the original Metroid and Chrono Trigger last week, that's fine.
Also, if you have really had your fill of a particular game, there isn't a rule saying you can't sit a certain game out. - racketboy, on 03/13/2008, -0/+1Well, I do plan on having a good mix of the big names and the lesser-known gems.
Back to your example of Chrono Trigger, Up until last month, I had never played more than a bit of it.
I'm glad I gave it a longer try, obviously. - ToMZiLLA, on 03/12/2008, -1/+1It didn't have graphix to hold me attention. So I was not "in"
