The consoles always do this at launch - the hype, the "shortages", the panic to buy, buy, buy during the frantic holiday season. The base units are always sold as a loss, so of course they want to limit those losses at first by packaging them with some overpriced accessories - especially to the die hards that must be first and will pay anything for the privilege. Just smile and be content in the fact that those suckers buying the $999 pre-order packages are subsidizing your baseline unit a few weeks later.

- digitalgopher, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0agree with bitwise. why not let people just order the system and game without insanely expensive bundled items that one may not want. if m$oft really wants to steal PS fans, they need to push retailers to offer an attractive price not $1000 bundles.
I'm waiting for Costco and the like to start offering simple, less expensive bundles.
