- mikeophile, on 01/07/2009, -4/+118My browser window on that page is titled "Things gamers don't actually care about | GamesRadar".
Kinda says it all, doesn't it? - Jaysunli, on 01/07/2009, -1/+75Not a very good list.
Also, having the list on 1 page would be great, gamesradar. - Marcus677, on 01/07/2009, -17/+84graphics!
they are not everything and it doesnt make a game good just because what you see on the screen looks nice. - spyd3rweb, on 01/07/2009, -0/+52I hate games where the AI doesn't get better or smarter when you increase the difficulty, it just increases the amount of damage they do and the amount of damage they take. Its really retarded having to fill someone with 30 bullets to kill them and it only takes one of theirs to kill you.
- dougbot, on 07/14/2009, -0/+51Ehh, I care about harder difficulties if the game kicked so much ass that i really want to play again. Granted that doesn't happen a lot, but Dead Space is a hard act to follow, and I wanted to live it all over again, plus it was easy on medium except for the asteroid deflection parts... plus it was short... so I started it up again on the hardest setting. But I can agree on other things, especially DLC. That's just expensive carrots on the end of sticks that were never there.
- Phasmorphage, on 01/07/2009, -2/+42As much as I love storylines and cutscenes, making them unskippable really sucks when you're just trying to play with a group of people who want to kill things already
- ChinezePanda, on 01/07/2009, -5/+44yeah but it sure does help.
- Kflo, on 01/07/2009, -0/+37This list should be in the list.
- Murdats, on 01/07/2009, -5/+41so I gave up after the first page as it seemed to be making sweeping statements about things they barely relate to and being quite stupid while at it.
- voomfoo, on 01/07/2009, -5/+38they should try speaking for themselves.
- Khast, on 01/07/2009, -0/+31Although, Digg and Gamers agree that we care about lists not spanning multiple pages.....
- noviceuser, on 01/07/2009, -0/+29Well... now you know how they feel when you play on lower difficulties :)
- shagg187, on 01/07/2009, -4/+31I disagree with almost everything in that list. Everything in that list can be great if done right.
- Vegabondsx, on 01/07/2009, -3/+26Ok article, I disagree on a few points though:
1. Downloadable content: Sure it sucks if you have to pay for it, which is usually the tale on the console. On the PC many maps are free, and some games, new maps and guns are being added all the time... which is great! An example is Team Fortress 2 which is constantly upgraded and added to for free by the developers. This is one of the things that makes the game great. (The PC version at least)
2. Online Avatars: Simple - RPGs and MMOs. Neverwinter Nights, WoW, and any other RPG wouldn't be nearly as fun if you couldn't create your own characters. As far as Miis, I'm sure there are many people who enjoy making their own.
3. Tie-in books: I've never read a tie-in book, but I think that it's a good thing if developers work hard on developing a good story. A game with great gameplay is good on its own, but a great story makes it that much better. This is especially true of adventure games. I wouldn't mind a tie-in book being made by the writers of The Longest Journey or Fahrenheit (Indigo Prophecy.)
4. Video games not art? Why not? A game with stunning graphics and a beautiful soundtrack may be art in my book.
Some things I definitely agree with though: Requiring to play multiple difficulty levels. I *hate* it when I have to play the game over to unlock the hardest difficulty, then playing it all over again to unlock a new map or skin. Being able to adjust the difficulty isn't a bad thing, it's just when it's mandatory to unlock things. It's just not fun at that point. - FoxOrian, on 01/07/2009, -0/+22By the same token, games are much better when they make cutscenes able to be PAUSED.
I hate it when I'm in a cutscene, and suddenly I get an important phone call or someone *has* to talk to over it to tell me something so I lose some important detail.
Sometimes I'm hesitant to find out if a game's cutscenes can be paused, since so few actually allow it. I think to myself, "If I hit start, will I pause it ... or accidentally skip it?" - vanguardanon, on 01/07/2009, -2/+23Buried for 4 pages.
- inactive, on 01/07/2009, -2/+22This article is absolute crap. I absolutely care about DLC, I absolutely care about revamped classics (Bionic Commando: Rearmed, Street Fighter 2 HD), I absolutely care about playing on a harder difficulty. Wii motion plus is going to add a ton of new possibilities to the Wii (sword fighting anyone?)
What really pisses me off the most is the Artistic Merit one. Look at a game like Okami and tell me that doesn't take some major artistic skill. Games are becoming an art form, and I love it.
Games Radar sucks. - MattyDienhoff, on 01/07/2009, -0/+19He's referring to the frequency with which the words 'gay', 'fag' and '*****' are used to insult people in the online gaming world.
- o0joshua0o, on 01/07/2009, -0/+17Every game should:
a) allow you to skip the cutscenes, and
b) allow you to rewatch all unlocked cutscenes in some kind of gallery.
Developers, is this really asking too much? - QueTzl, on 01/07/2009, -0/+15actually it's about 71%
- eightyd, on 01/07/2009, -0/+13Yeah, this article was kind of stupid. I'm pretty okay with buying new maps in halo, or songs in rock band. And the same for difficulty. According to these dweebs, I never should've progressed up the difficulties in rock band/guitar hero. And some of these are just stupid to whine about. Books? Sleeves? Come on guys, you can think up some better content.
- BobScratchit, on 01/07/2009, -1/+14I have to agree with this one. Back in the day this was important but graphics have reached a point now that just being flashy alone is not going to sell a game. MGS4 for example had awesome graphics but wouldn't have been a blip on the radar if it didn't have a deep storyline and didn't get the player emotionally involved.
- GirlsCallMeMatt, on 01/07/2009, -3/+16homosexuals is also a recurring theme of dislike for gamers
- whaler, on 01/07/2009, -1/+13Dugg because I hate those cardboard sleeves - mainly because they do seem too valuable to throw away most of the time.
- inactive, on 01/07/2009, -1/+13Because PCs never have expansion packs for games.
***** idiot. - eightyd, on 01/07/2009, -0/+12I can only half agree with this one. While I don't think graphics are NECESSARY to make a game awesome (Braid and Geo Wars come to mind immediately), I think they could certainly help. Here's an example- I played Bioshock on my 360, and I really felt immersed in the game. The water effects, the lighting, everything made me feel almost hypnotized, truly a part of the experience. Then soon after, I played Zelda on the Wii, and while I think the gameplay was much more fun, I couldn't help but continually think "Man, I wish this had some horsepower behind it. What if the same game was on the 360 or PS3? Stepping into Hyrule would be that much more real, gorgeous, and just immersive." Another example might be Call of Duty 1 vs Call of Duty World at War; in essence they are pretty much the same game, but I'm enjoying W@W so much more because of the graphics. It's hard to look away from.
- Khast, on 01/07/2009, -0/+11You call that 1st gen?.... I challenge you to a game of Pong!
- coheedcollapse, on 01/07/2009, -1/+12I think the one on there that I agree most with is concept art. As interesting as it might be for some people to go back and look at character models before they were put in and crap like that, nothing disheartens me more than finding an unlockable in a game and finding out it's concept art.
- Memnochxx, on 01/07/2009, -0/+11Hey now. I earned those hats in Alien Homonid.
And exactly correct about the paper sleeves, I hate having to care about those things. ._. - anttheman101, on 01/07/2009, -1/+12why do gamesradar top lists always make the front page?
they always have more then one page!!!!!!!!!! and most of the lists are bad! - zdiddy85, on 01/07/2009, -2/+12I don't see how Games Radar keeps getting their multi-page crappy articles dugg to the Front Page.
- cbabe001, on 01/07/2009, -0/+9I agree. Half of the things on the list I do care about.
Downloadable content: GTA, Fallout, Oblivion, COD4 map packs. Yes please.
Retro gaming: I love street fighter. Bionic Commando was awesome. Doom 2. I can always play mario. I actually with PSN would come out with more retro gaming titles. FF7 anyone?
Replay on a harder diffculty: I played COD4 on hard and loved it so much I had to do it on veteran. Rachet and Clank was fun to play though on a harder setting once I beat it. Doom 2 on Nightmare mode. There are many others. If I loved the game and want to continue playing it then playing it on the uber herd setting seems logical to me.
Wii controller accesories: The steering wheel for Mario Cart is a must. - valkyries, on 01/07/2009, -2/+11$2 for a song you only can use in game isnt acceptable,
- Hoogs, on 01/07/2009, -0/+9I agree. Recently, I bought a copy of Half-Life (1) and played it for the first time. At first, the graphics put me off (after being spoiled by today's games), but after getting into it, it became one of my all-time favorite games.
- grandhi, on 01/07/2009, -1/+9do you really think, we(gamers) care about 5 page article??
~ramki - inactive, on 01/07/2009, -5/+13There are acceptable forms...
For instance, DLC in Rock Band and Guitar Hero. - whiteboyfunk, on 01/07/2009, -5/+13Cooking.
- coheedcollapse, on 01/07/2009, -1/+9The way Valve is talking about new stuff they're adding to Left 4 Dead is making me nervous. It feels like they're planning on charging for it even on the PC. Don't quote me on that though.
- Jektal, on 01/07/2009, -0/+8I kind of miss the days of games like Serious Sam, where the tough difficulties didn't make the enemies smarter or stronger, it just sent a whole lot more of them.
- FoxOrian, on 01/07/2009, -1/+9As an aspiring professional illustrator, I'd like to say that I always look forward to seeing concept art of the games I play. When I unlock new concept art, its like getting a look at the process went into making the game. For me at least, that's extremely important.
I thought the concept art unlockables for Mirror's Edge were rather incredible. - inactive, on 01/07/2009, -0/+7I think that's true tbh. You only have to spend 5 minutes on Counter-Stike, and you will have been called a fag more than 10^100 times.
- Shaflugi, on 01/07/2009, -0/+7Would be pretty neat if you could grab the songs off your 360 and put 'em on your iPod or something. The USB port is right there.
- alvination, on 01/07/2009, -0/+6Wut? My wallet hates DLC, sure, but I love it.
- zorton213, on 01/07/2009, -4/+10That list sucked
"They can’t stand the test of time. With advances in technology, games have improved more than just their graphics over the years"
Fail - IamNomad, on 01/07/2009, -1/+7I couldn't help but laugh out loud at this.. .
There was no reason for this article to take up that many pages other then poor webpage format and advertisement whoring - Pyrolistical, on 01/07/2009, -0/+6Shiny stuff.
Why is the road all shiny in need for speed undercover when it runs like ass on the wii? - swicken, on 01/07/2009, -0/+6The whole article was a bitter sounding poorly written attempt to get on to the front page of digg. Cause digg loves lists and bitter articles.
