- chaosmachine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+31i kept waiting for the trucks to blow up.. but.. nothing.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23What? No guns? No rockets?
- Diseage, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18Pretty nice cockpit rendering but most advanced? please.
- Linkage155, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Was it just me or did anyone else kept waiting for the helicopter to shot one of the trucks?
- GamerSmurf, on 10/12/2007, -8/+14Looks like *****.
- SpacePope, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I suddenly want to play some Desert Combat.
- ilLH, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I like the usage of flat grass and roads as it truly brings out the 'advanced' in the title. The only thing advanced about this is the cockpit rendering, which is truly lame.
- keithharrison, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5indeed
- lethalpotato, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6why must every game preview use that song?
- doldr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5A few modest comments from a rotor-maniac like me:
* advanced.. we'll only be able to tell after trying, the tricky stuff is under the hood
* this dual-rotor thing (ugly as it is) actually exists, Russian model ka-50
* URL for this sim: http://www.lockon.ru/index.php?end_pos=950&scr=default&lang=en - mrmidgetman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4i played a flight sim a couple years ago that you had to use everything in the cockpit in order to fly. I quit it when it told me to fly a 8 hour mission. No enemies. Just transporting the plane. I was said ***** that and quit.
- mrmidgetman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4helicopters with two main rotors out preform helecopters with a tail rotor. An AK can shoot one down if it has a tail rotor but 2 main rotors are much less likely to be shot down.
- intarweb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4too bad the lock on games come with starforce
- mkaufman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6A textbook attack run? I'd rather call it a sure way to get shot down within seconds.
/BF2 chopperwhore. - mkaufman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4why should a chopper with two main rotors be a bad thing? They have some real advantages.
But yes, the sim is far away from being advanced... - t3hX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Hmmm. Doesn't look too good.
Anyone know how it compares to X-Plane? http://www.x-plane.com/ - Cytranic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Dual roter heli's can lift more then any other heli, so quit talking garbage. they also have the advantage of not having a tail roter. This means is a much more stable heli.
- acrossbetween, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5sorry couldn't resist
When did doing the whole, using a sarcastic statement that houses your opposite intentions then following it up with "Not." seem like a good idea outside of 1984? Please unpeg your acid wash jeans and turn down wham. The whole NOT thing was over with syke! But hey you could wait a few years and by that time it might come back into pop culture, but right now it just looks like you're sporting a George Michael mullet. Sorry if you're offended, just curl up with you're "relax" shirt, it will be cool then.
Seriously though, game wasn't that great and i was so waiting for something to blow up, even the school bus. That sounds bad, but anyways, anyone know why the landing gear was down the whole time during "attack runs." Nitpicking I know but really I wasn't impressed with the game in general. - EmileVictor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Someone show me a decent chopper simulator that pulls together combat, the nice cockpit in the linked video, good scenery and graphics.
I'd also like to see a non-gimped helicopter, like a Cobra. The one in the video is just hideous.
I love the BF games for the choppers, but I want something with the degree of difficulty as FS2004 coupled with a Battlefield-type gameplay. - piratearggghhh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Even choplifter kicks this game's ass.
- 7IM80, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4This game = 5 minutes of fun. BF2 = 100s of hours of fun.
- dude3609, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3i wouldnt call the cockpit rendering lame, but it isnt great. The way the chopper handles looks pretty cool.. but i still have yet to be impressed.
I would think that the most advanced helicopter simulator is under going testing by the US airforce, not a small pc game company. ;D - cataath, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yes, definitely not BF2. It actually looks like a modded version of Operation Flashpoint. I even remember seeing a dust up addon for that game a couple of years ago. But the ground textures, civilian buses, trees, all look like they're straight out of Operation Flashpoint. "World's Most Advanced" shouldn't look like a 5 year old game.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Looks like dumb.
- mkaufman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2well, i trust in the simulation abilities of x-plane, but the graphics in x-plane are not too good. Not to mention the user interface, which is a mess....
- iPirate, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Keith would probably get a kick out of that.
- sinkpoint, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Comparing BF2 to a sim is like comparing magazine articles to Moby Dick.
Please don't insult sims like that.
BF2 choppers are nowhere near being sims, they are just fancy arcades.
Can BF2 support miles upon miles of rolling terrains? Can BF2 let the pilot go up more than a few hundred meters in altitute before all hell breaks loose and the game takes control away from you? Only in BF2 where faster speed == smaller turning radius on a jet. There are no meaningful instruments, no way to rotate views in the cockpit with a joystick or keyboard. I can go on and on.
I can't wait for the new LockON game. - Aldaron07, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Excellent physics, but I'm of the idea that what defines an advanced simulation is the user interface. Without being able to test it myself at the moment with a joystick, other helicopter flight simulators such as the Commanche series beat it.
- bug20k1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1it reminds me of a bi-plane except in helicopter form
and if it weren't for that dual rotor lameness, it reminds me of a havok from bf2.. minus the guns and rockets and realism.
but hey, it has rooster tails. - waz67, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1BF2 choppers suck compared to Desert Combat
- Skeuomorph, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@piatearggghhh:
You can play Choplifter on OS X : http://classics_for_x.macbay.de/emulators/apple2/osxii_screen.gif

Great game. - Exempt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yah that was gay *****, woooOOOO weeee, he can fly a chopper in circles around a a few vehicles, and the dust effects look prehistoric, add some particle effects, and more physics, oh yah and I think it was mentioned in every comment, actually shoot something...
- Cybrwolf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Please, Gunship, on my C=64, was a rockin Chopper sim!
- antonj, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1it is from Godsmack, called Alive
- whiskeymb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1
This is hardly what I'd call "the most advanced" Not sure if anyone here played Apache Longbow by EA from about 8 years ago but THAT is what I'd call a sim. This looks more like an arcade action game (once they add in some actual fireworks).
btw, how can this be called "the most advanced" if the wheels don't even retract?!!?!? - Pwnzistor, on 07/16/2008, -0/+0This is Lock on Modern air combat - Black shark, yes it is advanced, most sims don't look all that great on the ground due to the stress that such a dynamic terrain rendering systems would put on any machine, so just back off, and there is hardly no way a Battlefield chopper whore would find any joy in this because it is a simulation.. too much work, stick to your arcade shooters kiddies.
- tutivlahos, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1He's using TrackR, thats why it feels so realistic.
- blindsidedude, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I too was expecting the chopper to blow up one of those trucks.
- t0ny, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I've been playing Lock on for a while and bf2 is nothing compared. Yes its fun but there is almost noting real in bf2. And Lockon compared to real life? It sucks. But its closer then most games/sims.
- stratmancj, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1crash that copter into a silo or something
- ForrestHump, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Take a look at the site and you'll see a complete mission video.
- aximbigfan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1xplane is pretty good. it only has a few helis but it is pretty realistic.
- neocitron, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1BF2 is not a simulator.... it's just fun.
- Petromyzon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Enemy Engaged was a good copter sim. It's old now but you got to blow up lots of stuff and good combat scenerios too. Such as China invading Tiawan, mideast conflicts...etc.
http://www.razorworks.com/enemyengaged/index.html
Would love to see a good copter sim with lots of combat. I'll keep an eye on this one. - bug20k1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1hey.. 1984 was a scary year, the thought police and the totalitarian government and the war. i'm just glad that those thought police could fly those choppers nice and steady right outside our windows.
-Worker of the Ministry of Truth - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1The physics don't look great. Could they have done something to the environment that you'll be flying in? Make it more detailed rather than stretching a photograph one of the designers took and making the vehicles interact with the wind. Volumetric clouds please.
- DeanO1589, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0OropheR, I'll take that copy off your hands if you don't want it. I'm always up for trying a different flight sim.
- lakai, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1this game isn't even out yet. its the new game made by lock-on developers.
