- walkingdogs, on 10/12/2007, -4/+58Not only the Wii titles but what about UT2007 or Alan Wake or Spore!
- DrummerSi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+45This list is *****! Where's SPORE!?
- hypnotizd, on 10/12/2007, -4/+37No Spore? No digg.
- jrefenes, on 10/12/2007, -1/+27Excuse me?!
"......and include PC gaming anyway, since it's a comparatively small phenomenon compared to console gaming"
I can think of about 8 million subscribers to World of Warcraft that would beg to differ calling PC gaming a "small phenomenon" - FalseProphecy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23"New Mario, Metroid and Super Smash Bros coming out next year"
This year. - Misanthrope, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19It's all "amazing graphics" type games. Every single one. This is a list of the best graphics of 2007, without a doubt.
- Atom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18 wtf kind of ***** list leaves off spore?!? Are you kidding me?
- Paroparo, on 10/12/2007, -30/+46Where are all the Nintendo games? New Mario, Metroid and Super Smash Bros coming out next year, but these guys don't seem to care. All the games on the list are interesting, or at least I recognize they're interesting to a lot of people, but those aren't exactly the top ten all around.
You can't really say "top ten wanted games" and include PC gaming anyway, since it's a comparatively small phenomenon compared to console gaming. Seriously, there are many times fewer PC gamers than console gamers out there. Of course that's probably not the case on digg... =P - GenVoss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16Duke Nukem Forever didn't make the list?
- lax767, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16UT2K7 is where on that list? It looks a lot better than that pirate game, ARRRGGHHH
- ethon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Add another to the list: Half-Life 2: Episode Two?
- canti32, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Did anyone else notice that they used a fake GTA 4 screenshot from a couple of months ago?
- thelastknowngod, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14WTF?!? What about Duke Nukem Forever?!?
- Kickersny, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Agreed. Half-Life 2: Episode 2 / Portal / Team Fortress 2 are on the top of my list.
- whiskeymb, on 10/12/2007, -7/+17without seeing Spore or Supreme Commander on this list I have to disagree with him. These two games will be huge and redefine their genres. C&C3? I haven't seen or heard anything about this that makes it sound good besides the graphics. Which, from what I've seen, look more distracting then anything else. Plus, you gotta wonder about a game that has so many hollywooders in it, anybody remember the drab game that Wing Commander 3 was?!
- bigz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Alan Wake is 2008
- pathy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Bit-Tech is a *very* good site. It's also very well known, especially among PC Gamers/Hardware enthusiasts. It isn't a group of little nublets.
See, the problem with these lists are - There are a LOT of games ready for 2007 right now. It's a bit difficult to make them cross platform, because there are just so many awesome games planned to come out.
For me, the first is going to hit close to my birthday - STALKER... Mmmm... - DJFMA, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I can't believe Mass Effect isn't on there.
- profOblivion, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9@beachbabe22
You're back? So that makes account number... what, 7? 8? More? Man, after yesterday I thought you'd died horrible, gruesome death or something. Ah well, one can only hope. - AgentBorrelli, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Yeah, all i have to say is SPORE . . .
- ryandeean, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8The Microsoft guy said at CES today that there were 200 million PC gamers compared to less than half of that for consoles. Don't know whether that is true.
- otheruser, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9NO SPORE, NO THANK YOU.
- NoTiG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Where is quake wars enemy territory, and ut 2007 ?
- superheroboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Anyone who has lived or visited outside the US can see how popular internet cafes are for their multiplayer gaming. I would think the 200 million number is conservative.
- dopelogic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5What about Assassins Creed?
- Fascist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I've always had a soft spot in my heart for extreme fragging sports.
- Jetpac, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7This is another top 10 Bollocks list of games for 2007.
PC:
where is unreal 2007
where is SPORE
where is HL2: EP 2 (plus PORTAL and TF2)
where is Quake Wars: ET
Where is Supreme Commander
Where are all the console titles?
Mario Etc
These are the games people want not that load of crap.
Man i havnt even heard about some of those games... Very Poor.
Find one person (other than the author) who agrees with that top ten and i will happily eat my hat and anyone elses hat!
FFS STOP DIGGING ***** TOP 10 LISTS. - ahawks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Not only are the Wii titles missing (and as other pointed out, Spore, and many others)... but the author is so ignorant to the reader's perspective that the games' platforms aren't even mentioned.
Sure, some of those looked mildly amusing, but I've pretty much sworn off buying a PS3. However, I do like to follow the struggle (if you can call it that so far) between the 360 and PS3, and I'd like to know which of these games were strengthening each side. - wingnut21, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"Alan Wake is 2008"
Goddamnit. I guess Remedy caught whatever disease 3D Realms has. - skymt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6If Far Cry is the second-best FPS of all time, I must have just been dreaming about Half-Life 1&2 and the Marathon Trilogy.
- Coffeedemon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Diversity? Not sure you know what that word means. You only listed Nintendo games.
- PSPon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I hate clicking next
- radixus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I don't get it . . . just because the list doesn't include a specific game you're interested you instantly mark the article as lame?
You can't get a world average of the top 10 most wanted game, the best you can do is either provide your opinion or opinions of a small handful of the public. Personally the list is pretty good. If you really look at it the top two games are pretty much the most wanted games. They are two games the industry has been buzzing about for the past year or two. I'm of course talking about Project Offset and Crysis - two LANDMARK games that will change the industry. They deserve to be on the list then anything Nintendo can release as well as Spore.
So just because it doesn't have your favorite game, doesn't mean it can't be a valid list. - omatsei, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5@ilyag: Actually, I know quite a bit about Alan Wake. It's based on a novelist named Alan Wake, who suffers from insomnia (hence the name Alan, which means he's "A. Wake"). He goes to vacation in Oregon somewhere, just off the Pacific coast, and that's when his insomnia really kicks in... He starts seeing *****, and not remembering how he got to places, etc. In the end, it looks like a psychological thriller on par with the nightmare sequences of Max Payne, but not a FPS.
- Stevethegreat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Maybe but I really doubt if it will measure up with a PC FPS like Crysis, or Project Offset or even STALKER. Console controller always takes away half the magic of a shooter
- Coffeedemon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5@ilyag
I'll start... Unreal 2.
I like nice graphics but that game was a very weak "FPS by numbers". - kcpwnsgman, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7"Top 10 list of games, centered mainly around PC"
- Pile, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4What a crock.. Hello? Spore... marked as inaccurate
- tafkase7en, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Where is Assassins Creed and God of War 2? This list sucks.
- LeftistPersona, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Raiden will be in MGS4. Dumbass.
"Set after Metal Gear Solid 2 (thankfully no sign of the long haired pansy Raiden)." - Stevethegreat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3You never heard of Project Offset? It is a very famous underground game, it currently holds a great deal of innovation in graphics. It can easily better than any game currently announce included Crysis. It's the first which promised to deliver large scale with cinematic graphics, I 'm looking forward to it, but sadly -as it seems- it's 2008 title.
- Wytefang, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Instead of grumbling, why don't you folks post your own lists here? It'll at least help you blow off some steam over any choices in that list that annoyed you. My choices for must-own games of this year include (more than 10 of them, sorry):
18. Alan Wake - PC (Last on this list because they've really not shown enough of anything significant, despite some recent in-depth previews, to make it seem that cool - right now it's a foggy town and a guy with mental problems and a flashlight - yawn - BUT despite this lack of substance, fans seem pretty interested so it JUST squeeks on my list)
17. Metroid Prime: Corruption - Wii
16. Super Mario Galaxy (not my kind of game at all and I find Mario extremely boring but the controller might make this fun) - Wii
15. God of War 2 - PS2
14. Command & Conquer 3 - PC
13. Supreme Commander- PC (both of these RTS games are down here because Company of Heroes is STILL so amazing that it's hard to be that excited about more RTS games - though SupCom has the best potential out of the two games, imho)
12. Assassin's Creed - PS3/X360 or PC (While this game saw some hype, it seems to have died down, thus its lower placement here)
11. Dragon Age - PC
10. Hellgate: London - PC (this game from the makers of Diablo has dropped in my want list due to the news that the MP portion of the game is definitely going to be a MMO pay-to-play model - tons of people are dropping it from their 'must-buy' lists now that this news is official - it'll still be something cool for single-player at least)
9. Enemy Territory: Quake Wars - PC (it makes top 10 because it's all-new idea, sort-of, related to Quake and it's had a LOT of hype)
8. Half-Life Ep 2 with Team Fortress Classic 2 and Portal (TFC 2 is what puts this so high on my list and for many fans)
7. Mass Effect - X360
6. UT2007 - PC/PS3 (This franchise is too huge not to rank this high at least and coming out on dual-platforms won't hurt it at all)
5. GTA IV - Every platform (I loathe this series, finding it low-brow and clunky but the kiddies love it so you know it'll be anticipated and sell well, thus its high-placement)
4. BioShock - PC/X360 (I have it this high due to the hype I seem to hear for it though I have doubts that it'll be as good on the PC as on the X360, I suspect that it'll be consolized, unfortunately for PC fans but good for X360 fans)
3. Halo 3 - X360 (I find the Halo series vastly over-rated but based on what I know about the fans and their rabid love for this series, it makes sense for it to be this high on the list and in fact, depending on how much you like this game, I could see it being #1 or #2, it's just that huge of a series all around)
2. Crysis - PC (This next-gen killer is NOT just about graphics - anyone saying that is just cranky because they can't play it or they dislike the PC as a gaming platform - read the previews to learn more about some of the cool stuff Crytek plans to do with AI and story-telling in the game. This game is ranked so high because of its DX10 aspects and for how their pushing hardware with it.)
1. Spore - PC (Clearly this is the best known of the highly-anticipated games coming out in the near future - Will Wright has rarely not delivered what he's promised and his success with The Sims, while not a game that I like at all, proves that Spore will be absolutely huge) - dyzlexiK, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6L4D is by turtleneck studios? This has to be the least researched article ever. My top 10:
10: Duke Nukem Forever ( :) )
9: Super Mario Galaxy
8: C&C3
7: HL: Episode 2
6: Crysis
5: Ut2007
4: Spore
3: Super Smash Bros Melee
2: WoW: Burning Crusade
1: Halo 3 - Stevethegreat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Never forget how much money game developing companies pump from the hardware industry. If titles themselves are the main resource of money for console developers then PC hardware is the one for the top of the line PC games developers (which actually hurts the small developers in the PC industry, they run quite of a risk). But don't -ever- believe that EA for example makes more money from the consoles, Battlefield 1942's advertisements alone gave the company as much money as a successful console run. Hardcore gamers buy both the hardware AND the game, when talking for PCs, even if they're pirates they will pay the hardware from which a great premium goes to top of the live PC gaming companies, things are quite more balanced than you may think
- FuzzyBunny, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Yeah this is a pretty poor list. MGS4 and Dragon Age are extremely unlikely to make it in 2007. Some VERY notable exceptions missing from the list are Spore, Mass Effect, Assassins Creed, and Supreme Commander. I find their exceptions all the more notable since I have never even heard of Left for Dead, Project Offset, or Pirates of the Burning Sea.
- autocrawler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"Project Offset will probably flop like Dark Messiah, and/or it will never be as good as Elder Scrolls 4."
How the hell does one compare a supposed FPS to a sandbox RPG with little emphasis on combat mechanics?! Those two are completely different genres.
Secondly, Dark Messiah has never "flopped". It simply didn't live up to the hype, however, regardless of that, it succeeded in being the best first person melee game...ever. It isn't bad when judged from a "fantasy FPS" standpoint either.
"Crysis does look amazing, but I bet Metal Gear Solid 4 will have better graphics and be a much better game, regardless of genre or platform."
Right, let's compare a third person sneaking game...to a FPS. Yet again, brilliant. I'll throw in another valid comparison: "Hey, you know, I think Microsoft Flight Simulator XI will be a better game than MGS4!" - SeriouslyButNo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Melee's already out. :)
- ophilye, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3regardless of whether the list is crap or not.. the games are at least worth the attention. Crysis is absolutely beautiful. I doubt it will look that beautiful for most of us, but the screenshots are worth mentioning (saying a lot from a girl that usually prefers Viva Pinata-looking things). That's the closest to realistic I have seen yet.
And Left 4 Dead is going to be more fun long-term. who doesn't like the idea of being a zombie if you can't be one of the main killers with your friends? I personally am looking forward to finding my husband (who inevitably gets the good position) and eating his brains.
Bioshock everyone has looked forward to for months. I swear I saw that being advertised last year at this time. I dont' think it will live up to the hype. - Wytefang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3To Overmind12812: Well you don't do much to make yourself sound like an even-minded gamer yourself. There are WAY more gaming PCs out there (that can play the majority of current and upcoming games at least on lower resolutions) than there are X360s. Do some research and then come back when you know something. Digged down for stupidity.
- scallon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3And there will be exclamation marks. They were reinstated for nostalgic reasons. The MGS4 info is seriously out of date.
