The most explosively awful console launch titles.
1up.com — We've all been burned by new consoles, some more than others. The allure of a colorful new box and that unmistakable Chinese factory smell are more overpowering than the wall of half-finished garbage, glorified tech demos, and Ridge Racers awaiting the owner of fresh gaming hardware.

- navster15, on 04/17/2008, -14/+14Just thinking about Kameo makes me angry. That bland piece of platforming crap single handedly eliminated any respect I had for Rare. Banjo Threeie better be GOTY material before I start trusting them again.
- TimmyGUNZ, on 04/17/2008, -0/+16I actually enjoyed Kameo, but then again I got it used for $19.99.
- BearinG, on 04/17/2008, -0/+6Yeah that and you can play COOP.. Kameo was the only game my g/f ever played until Rock Band showed up..
No the best game ever but I wouldn't say its a bad game.. I enjoyed it
- BearinG, on 04/17/2008, -0/+6Yeah that and you can play COOP.. Kameo was the only game my g/f ever played until Rock Band showed up..
- slimscane, on 04/17/2008, -4/+11Did you not play Viva Piñata?
- thecrazyd, on 04/17/2008, -1/+8I did. I just couldn't make myself care about working hard to make piñatas *****.
- dcast777, on 04/17/2008, -0/+16I would have to agree with timmy, I enjoyed kameo also, It obviously wasn't the greatest game in the world but there had to been worse launch titles for the 360.
- twinegarden, on 04/17/2008, -5/+3I also enjoyed Kameo. Also, it was full of easy Acheivement points.
- mywhitenoise, on 04/17/2008, -2/+9I can't believe people get games for achievement points. I'm not going to play through a ***** game like Full-Auto, or Chicken Shoot, or King Kong just for some points.
- BearinG, on 04/17/2008, -5/+1Got king kong for free with the HD-DVD.. tried it.. 10 minutes later it was out and I've never played it again.
- HolyChimp, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1Only cuz you got all 1000 points in those 10 minutes... I'm saving it for a 99p rental if MS ever comes out with a contest similar to the old spice one for us brits.
- BearinG, on 04/18/2008, -0/+1Uh? No i didn't get the 1000 points.. I stopped playing because I didn't like it. I figured i'd try it and maybe get the points but I just didn't want to play it after the first few minutes.
- BearinG, on 04/17/2008, -5/+1Got king kong for free with the HD-DVD.. tried it.. 10 minutes later it was out and I've never played it again.
- mywhitenoise, on 04/17/2008, -2/+9I can't believe people get games for achievement points. I'm not going to play through a ***** game like Full-Auto, or Chicken Shoot, or King Kong just for some points.
- chillypacman, on 04/17/2008, -1/+18Kameo is a great game, the only problem it has is it came out on a console where the majority of its owners can't go on for thirty seconds without killing something. Besides, the criticism is absurd, Kameo had the best graphics of any Xbox360 game at launch as well as the best and most innovative gameplay of any of the bland lot. The critcism is valid however for Perfect dark, but oh, whats this? Yeah it's a shooter, therefore it cannot possibly be the worst launch title ever, I mean you shoot things in it.
I cannot BELIVE how pathetic some xbox owners are, then again, Psychonauts did not fair so well on the original Xbox. It's pretty clear the niche microsoft has with the xbox franchise isn't going to be letting go anytime soon.- BearinG, on 04/17/2008, -1/+9I agree, the graphics in Kameo made my HDTV shine.. lots of bright colors..
I rented Perfect Dark on launch week and wow.. I couldn't believe what a crappy game it was.. but that's my opinion, i know alot of people liked it.. but I personally would not qualify PDZ better than Kameo - bagboyrebel, on 04/17/2008, -0/+4I'm a big FPS fan and I couldn't stand Perfect Dark
- TimmyGUNZ, on 04/18/2008, -0/+1The original PD was my favorite game for N64. I never even finished the 360 version because it was so lifeless and lame.
- BearinG, on 04/17/2008, -1/+9I agree, the graphics in Kameo made my HDTV shine.. lots of bright colors..
- vincenzo7, on 04/17/2008, -0/+11the headline reads "explosively aweful". Kameo was nowhere near "explosively aweful". And that's the bottom line.
- TotalHalibut, on 04/17/2008, -0/+61up peddling subjective opinions as fact? Never seen them do that before.
Kameo was critically acclaimed. Being edgy doesn't mean you're right. They could have picked on Perfect Dark Zero (though they'd still have been stumped by fantastic multiplayer) but to be quite honest, from the perspective of reviewer acclaim, the 360 didn't have a genuinely bad launch title.- vincenzo7, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1is it cuz shoe left?
- TotalHalibut, on 04/18/2008, -0/+1Hell knows, I've never paid much attention to the 1up network.
- vincenzo7, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1is it cuz shoe left?
- rustytwonderdog, on 04/17/2008, -1/+3i, my wife, and my kids all enjoyed kameo. it may not have been worth $60 at launch, but it was great for the $10 i paid off eBay.
- 42Vindictive, on 04/17/2008, -0/+8I bought Kameo used about 2 years later, and enjoyed the heck out of it. I mean, it definitely wasn't Rare's best game, but I was able to beat it and enjoy it. So screw you 1UP
Oh and Altered Beast was pwnage too.- BabyWookie, on 04/17/2008, -1/+1Crap, I dugg you up for the first paragraph, before I read you praising Altered Beast. Try to play that game again some times. It's bloody awful and can be finished in 20 minutes.
- Tahiri, on 04/18/2008, -0/+1I bought Kameo new for $35 with my 360 and was glad to do so. It's the only game I don't believe belongs on that list
- TimmyGUNZ, on 04/17/2008, -0/+16I actually enjoyed Kameo, but then again I got it used for $19.99.
- shortyjacobs, on 04/17/2008, -26/+4Anyone else read "titties" and feel simultaneously grossed out and intrigued?
- shortyjacobs, on 04/17/2008, -0/+8...guess not.
- maaaaark, on 04/17/2008, -1/+10Only intrigued.
- polarpaw, on 04/17/2008, -29/+1WaveRace.
N64.- Dylson, on 04/17/2008, -0/+20Um...no? That game was actually fun to play.
- Shawn4168, on 04/17/2008, -0/+14Seriously? That game was one of my all-time favorites. Extremely impressive for a launch title. It had good music, voice, and sound effects, nice looking water, wave physics, and was challenging without being impossible.
- i4mt3hwin, on 04/17/2008, -3/+52uh Perfect Dark: Zero Hour on 360? Bad graphics, bad story, bad sequel, bad everything.
- SSCrow, on 04/17/2008, -0/+7The humans had poor shaders and there was way too much specular on everything. (and motion Blur)
But there were some incredibly impressive scenes of graphical awesome. - 6shot, on 04/17/2008, -2/+12That game got a 9.0 on Gamespot. It must be gold.
/sarcasm- BearinG, on 04/17/2008, -1/+6Wow, I never noticed that.. that puts it with Guitar Hero 2, Rockband, Bioshock.. yeah right..
- FFXIfrohike, on 04/18/2008, -0/+1Gamespot: "On a scale of 7 to 10, it's a 9!"
- RudeTurnip, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1I played it for a bit at launch and then stopped caring about it not too long after for the same reasons. I only picked it up again since co-op mode makes it fun
- chillypacman, on 04/17/2008, -1/+9yeah, they put kameo there which is definitely a good game vs. perfect dark which is a ***** ass game.
but you know, FPS titles always get preferred treatment. - chedabob, on 04/17/2008, -0/+4I liked it. It wasn't the greatest game in the world, but it was still fun to play, and it was good enough to tide most of us over until a decent multiplayer game came out.
- BearinG, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1I thought COD2 was way better then PDZ in all aspects.. not the same timeline or story or anything but FPS vs FPS, COD2 was awesome for launch
- BearinG, on 04/17/2008, -1/+1I thought the multiplayer was bad.. single player seemed "okay" but did not interest me..
- BearinG, on 04/18/2008, -0/+1I only rented it so I didn't feel too bad for not playing alot.. maybe if I had bought it, I would've put more effort into trying it out longer.. But I didn't get hooked..
- boombume, on 04/17/2008, -1/+1How can there be so many replies to this comment, and someone has yet to call this guy an ***** for getting the title of the game wrong?
Sure the game might suck, but the fact that you don't even know the title of the game doesn't put much weight in your opinion.
- SSCrow, on 04/17/2008, -0/+7The humans had poor shaders and there was way too much specular on everything. (and motion Blur)
- alpha19, on 04/17/2008, -1/+46Lol... Altered Beast was great.
- punkcat, on 04/17/2008, -0/+10thats when i discredited him.
maybe its ass now but back then it was great. - gfnw, on 04/17/2008, -0/+3It hasn't stood the test of time, that's for sure, but at the time it was amazing. Oh my God it's just like an arcade game! But on a home console! How can this be!?
I doubt this is the case since he's writing for a major gaming source, but some aspects of the article makes me feel that the author wasn't even around at the time games like Altered Beast and Mario Land were actually released, and is only seeing them from a modern perspective. - Ninjapope, on 04/17/2008, -0/+4POOOOWERRR UP!
- dataset, on 04/17/2008, -1/+3WISE FWOM YOUR GWAVE.
- TheObviousChild, on 04/17/2008, -1/+0Got mine with Sonic....woot.
...of course that meant i was the lame-ass still playing my crappy old 8-bit system while everyone else was basking in the warming glow of BLAST PROCESSING. - BabyWookie, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1You are crazy. I played it again on an emu in the late 90's and couldn't believe that I ever liked it. That game was only good for showing the Nintendofags what your Genesis could do.
- punkcat, on 04/17/2008, -0/+10thats when i discredited him.
- killbert24, on 04/17/2008, -2/+7I remember Cruis'n USA. I rented that game when I first got my N64 and only played it for like 10 minutes before returning to Mario 64. The only interesting part about the arcade game is that it was built on "Ultra 64" Technology, meaning the game was designed for N64 way before the N64 was even released.
- cypherstream, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1Yeah and what was with that girl at the beginning of each race that said "DAVID!!!!"
- rhino369, on 04/17/2008, -0/+2If someone answers this it will solve the biggest mystery of my preteen years. When I got N64 we only had cruisin USA for three months.
- grumbel, on 04/17/2008, -0/+8Never trust the advertisment:
"Although Cruis'n USA was advertised as running on Ultra 64 hardware (based on the Nintendo 64's hardware), it was actually implemented on the Midway Games reality engine - a TMS320c31-based hardware board designed by Midway engineers with a specially designed ASIC that was completely unrelated to the Ultra 64 hardware" - RainNIU, on 04/17/2008, -0/+2I loved playing this in the arcade. There was something appealing about racing a school bus agaist sports cars.
- cypherstream, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1Yeah and what was with that girl at the beginning of each race that said "DAVID!!!!"
- Doomsan, on 04/17/2008, -6/+9Dugg for Ace of Base reference.
- bills534, on 04/17/2008, -2/+6I like Ace of Base. *starts humming "I Saw the Sign"*
- EviLiu, on 04/17/2008, -0/+2And it opened up my eyes
- TheObviousChild, on 04/17/2008, -0/+0now I can't get the sound of that fat Swedish dude trying to rap out of my head.
...from "Don't Turn Around"....of course....god why do I remember that? I thought I repressed Ace of Base along with all of my other high school memories. back to the therapist for me. - Philbert, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1I just heard that song playing at a convenience store the other day and it was stuck in my head all day.
- bills534, on 04/17/2008, -2/+6I like Ace of Base. *starts humming "I Saw the Sign"*
- cledford, on 04/17/2008, -8/+3booooo
- fudsak, on 04/17/2008, -1/+55Uhhh last I checked, altered beast is the *****. "Wise fwom you gwave!"
- punkcat, on 04/17/2008, -1/+6how could u forget 2 player, "bastard, u stole my power up."
- sgtpppr, on 04/17/2008, -0/+3And I missed the intricate story telling and deep character development as you progressed and learned more and more about 'evil bald guy' with a single, static snapshot of some random scene between levels. Though, my favorite is the slimers from the swamp level that jumped on your head and attached to you. I miss the old 'wtf' super japanese games like this Forgotten Worlds, and Parodius. If you can actually figure wtf is going on in Forgotten Worlds, you must be channeling some ancient spirits.
- 42Vindictive, on 04/17/2008, -1/+6Yeah, this list sucked BALLS. I played Altered Beast all day and night, it was friggin awesome.
- dbsmoker, on 04/17/2008, -0/+3"POWER UP!"
- Philbert, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1I played Altered Beast so much that one day I was able to beat it with the TV turned off, just sound coming from the Genesis's headphone jack.
- NonLeftistDiggr, on 04/18/2008, -0/+1I stuffed 25 quarters in the arcade machine to beat Altered beast before the genesis came out, then when I bought a genesis and realized it came with altered beast I crapped my pants with glee. This list is horrid.
- orangefly, on 04/17/2008, -0/+9street fighter:the movie pronked hairy pronks....
- Chalks777, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1I despronkly want to make a movie, based on 'street fighter: the movie'.
- coldfire201, on 04/17/2008, -1/+12They are crazy... clockwork knight was epic
- jrm5100, on 04/17/2008, -0/+0I almost ***** myself after seeing that since I hadn't thought of the game at all in the 12 or so years since I last played it. I think I only had the demo, but that was an awesome game.
We need remakes of Clockwork Knight and Three Dirty Dwarves.- jrm5100, on 04/17/2008, -0/+0Three Dirty Dwarves: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fft8XGMPBPU
That was an awesome game. - Philbert, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1I too only had the demo but I loved it!
- jrm5100, on 04/17/2008, -0/+0Three Dirty Dwarves: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fft8XGMPBPU
- jrm5100, on 04/17/2008, -0/+0I almost ***** myself after seeing that since I hadn't thought of the game at all in the 12 or so years since I last played it. I think I only had the demo, but that was an awesome game.
- jackflash666, on 04/17/2008, -2/+114I'm sorry but no, Super Mario Land 1 on Game Boy was great! Second was better but man, that was a popular game with nothing awful about it. Somewhat lame list.
- akatherder, on 04/17/2008, -0/+18I loved that game but I had to comment on the annoyance of your fireballs bouncing on the ground once, then flying into the air instead of bouncing in front of you like the other Mario games. I think they called them superballs instead of fireballs, despite the fact that you got "superballs" when you got a fireflower.
- hocusposus, on 04/17/2008, -1/+1thats a superflower dumbass
- TimmyGUNZ, on 04/17/2008, -0/+6The ending music on that game is one of my all-time favorites, second only to Castlevania II: Simon's Quest.
- blackhole82, on 04/17/2008, -0/+9I also enjoyed Super Mario land quite a bit.
- thatcrazycommie, on 04/17/2008, -0/+10Seriously, that was like my favorite Game Boy game. The submarine level was so awesome.
- grumbel, on 04/17/2008, -0/+17Mario Land was just a few month released after MarioBros2, meaning there was MarioBros1, MarioBros2 and MarioLand and nothing else. Its Egyptian theme was no more weird then what MarioBros2 did. It is only years/decades later that the Egyptian theme stands out as unusual in the the Mario series as a whole, back then it didn't. That said, MarioLand is still a very good game, not the best Mario, but still a good one, especially for the time.
Overall that list is just retard, stuff like Kameo or WaveRace might not have been AAA titles, but they where still very decent games and there is nothing "explosive aweful" about them.- theaceoffire, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1Video of mario land:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-mIU59QvT5o
- theaceoffire, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1Video of mario land:
- steelclash84, on 04/17/2008, -0/+13The author complains about the random Egyptian theme in it, and yet Mario 64 (which has a whole zone devoted to an Egyptian theme, and is also a launch title) is perfectly acceptable? I stopped reading at that point.
- nlatimer, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1Obviously Super Mario Land provided the precedent.
But yeah, was there even a story to SML?- steelclash84, on 04/17/2008, -0/+2I do know the clouds are different than the bushes!
- nlatimer, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1Obviously Super Mario Land provided the precedent.
- ThirdWizard, on 04/17/2008, -0/+4Mario Land was freakin' awesome. I loved that game. I can't believe they put that on there...
- yohnstoppable, on 04/17/2008, -0/+4Super Mario Land was the *****, and is one of the all time greatest portable console games. Buried this ***** as inaccurate.
- slotimus, on 04/17/2008, -0/+7Came here to say that. Screw this guy.
- gstep, on 04/17/2008, -0/+3The only reason I looked through the comments on this page was so I could digg up whoever mentioned this. Glad to see people agree. Although, like he said, 6 Golden Coins was the coolest.
- magicaltrevor, on 04/17/2008, -0/+3Super Mario Land had the best soundtrack out of any Mario game.
- Wintermute426, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1Seems like they left out the most legitimate complaint about Super Mario Land: the migraine-inducing motion blur. Still loved it though.
- JeffH, on 04/17/2008, -0/+7Azurik was way worse than Mad Dash Racing.
- jonlarge, on 04/17/2008, -0/+3Kabuki Warriors was, hands down, the worst Xbox launch game
- twinegarden, on 04/17/2008, -0/+0Possibly the worst Xbox game period. I remember it getting reviews around 2 of 10.
- jonlarge, on 04/17/2008, -0/+3Kabuki Warriors was, hands down, the worst Xbox launch game
- iamollie, on 04/17/2008, -10/+6This article is total balls, it doesnt include perfect dark zero as someone said above which had to have been the biggest disapointment since hitler's mother realised what she'd done to the world, super mario advance was a perfectly good game (not excellent)
- dancercotillion, on 04/18/2008, -0/+1Those who pithily break Godwin's Law should be punished with death.
- celkin, on 04/17/2008, -7/+1I lost.
- Dylson, on 04/17/2008, -22/+1These comments SUCK!
- DangerMouse9, on 04/17/2008, -1/+14Yours isn't any better.
- Claude1971, on 04/17/2008, -1/+2i think you were supposed to say, "so does your Mom!"
- BearinG, on 04/17/2008, -1/+1yeah thanks for keeping that smart comment alive...
/s
- BearinG, on 04/17/2008, -1/+1yeah thanks for keeping that smart comment alive...
- jjpertusch, on 04/17/2008, -0/+61what?! as a kid i loved Super Mario Land on Game Boy. it was awesome, there was a submarine level AND an airplane level... and dont even get me started on the chinese level.
- kamog, on 04/17/2008, -1/+63I'm sorry, but Super Mario Land for the Game Boy does not deserve to be on this list. It was challenging, a solid platformer, and the last stage was epic. It's a classic!
- 8bit_Hero, on 04/17/2008, -0/+52Super Mario Land was awesome. this guy is crazy.
- v1c1ous, on 04/17/2008, -0/+42wow. super mario land on gb? gradius III for snes? bad?
what the hell was this guy smoking when he wrote this?- Philbert, on 04/17/2008, -0/+2Agreed, Gradius III is one of my all time favorites, so was SML on GB.
- Mansellisme, on 04/17/2008, -0/+10Dk Jr maths? I see how that failed with ease, but i would never shun Super Mario Land for the Gameboy, that was always a good little game for my Gameboy Pocket.
- FriedTurkey, on 04/17/2008, -6/+11Waverace: Blue Storm was and still is awesome. Lugi Mansion is the correct answer for crap.
- TimmyGUNZ, on 04/17/2008, -1/+10Waverace wasn't a bad game at all. To this day it is one of the best looking games on GC. Those water transparency effects were epic.
- Shaflugi, on 04/17/2008, -0/+2Not to mention Waverace 64 looks amazing for an N64 game. It still holds up pretty well today, IMO.
- jesterkap2, on 04/21/2008, -0/+0Waverace blue storm was awesome, but luigi's mansion was pretty sweet. It was just too short. I am biased towards anything luigi related though.
- TimmyGUNZ, on 04/17/2008, -1/+10Waverace wasn't a bad game at all. To this day it is one of the best looking games on GC. Those water transparency effects were epic.
- HenvY, on 04/17/2008, -1/+7Genji was easily the worst PS3 launch title!
- dsmith78, on 04/17/2008, -1/+1You forgot about the Gundam game that launched with the PS3. That POS looked like a PS2 launch title
- Casty, on 04/17/2008, -0/+5GIANT ENEMY CRAB!!11
- coresnake, on 04/18/2008, -0/+1Attack its weak point for massive damage!
- RedNumberFive, on 04/17/2008, -0/+22This list is horrible. Super Mario Advance? Feel the Magic? Altered Beast? I know some of them feel aged now, but at the time, they were all pretty boss.
- Mansellisme, on 04/17/2008, -10/+1Super Mario Advanced failed in my eyes, with the whole throwing turnips around...
- TimmyGUNZ, on 04/17/2008, -0/+14Did you never play SMB 2 on NES?!
- Mansellisme, on 04/17/2008, -10/+1Super Mario Advanced failed in my eyes, with the whole throwing turnips around...
- YouRookies, on 04/17/2008, -2/+29Red Steel.
- Synn, on 04/17/2008, -0/+5Red Steel wasn't awful...it was just the very definition of mediocre.
- zaphod49015, on 04/18/2008, -0/+0It was a failure from the fact that it was supposed to be AMAZING and it wasn't. It just didn't live up to its Nintendo-pushed video hype.
- CYG101, on 04/17/2008, -0/+27Super Mario Land was not only awesome but it is the second best selling Mario game ever. Only beaten by Super Mario Bros 3.
- ThePenrod, on 04/17/2008, -3/+9Ok, yes Mario Land had shoddy controls but Cruis'n USA? Kameo? Wave Race: Blue Storm? A few of these games (at the very least Cruis'n USA) were/are heralded as decent games. Futhermore, Cruis'n USA wasn not a launch title; it would be nice if somebody who knew something about video games were behind these articles.
- Shawn4168, on 04/17/2008, -2/+2RTFA. The N64 only had 2 launch titles, both of which were good. So the author had to go a little further down the road to find a crappy game for the system. And while some of those games you listed were indeed decent, they were still among the worst of the launch titles for their particular system.
- HolyChimp, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1He had no problem condemning decent launch titles such as Kameo, so why did he make the extra effort with the N64. Just call another decent game ***** and wait for the ad$!
- FFXIfrohike, on 04/18/2008, -0/+1Exactly... if a console didn't have godawful launch titles, why bother making some up? Perhaps to bolster his hackneyed theory that ALL console launches ever were cursed with bad software. Lame.
The whole article is lame, frankly. "Let's beat a dead horse shall we?"
- Shawn4168, on 04/17/2008, -2/+2RTFA. The N64 only had 2 launch titles, both of which were good. So the author had to go a little further down the road to find a crappy game for the system. - blest, on 04/17/2008, -8/+1Dugg for the review on Kameo.
- sadsadsadist, on 04/17/2008, -0/+8I loved Altered Beast, classic scrolling gameplay. Super Mario Land was my favorite Gameboy game of all time. I could beat the whole thing in less then half an hour and have about 20-30 lives left over. Love that game, hate this list.
- so1omon, on 04/17/2008, -1/+4Wait, why would kids be disappointed about not being able to do a trick with the number 58008? Huh... no foolin'... It spells BOOBS. That's funny. BOOBS. meh.
- whaleyboy, on 04/17/2008, -0/+16I loved Super Mario Land on the Gameboy! How was that a disappointment?? Before that all we had were those crappy Tiger Electronics LCD games! Idiot. Also...Altered Beast was pretty damn good to for it's day. It was pretty much "arcade perfect" which was a big deal back then...if you want to name a crappy Genesis launch title how about Last Battle?
- thephosphorbox, on 04/17/2008, -0/+2Last Battle was pretty damn bad.. but I remember really liking it at the time for some now-unknown reason.
- clarkec321, on 04/17/2008, -0/+2Well remembered. Last Battle must be one of the worst games ever
- linksdeity, on 04/17/2008, -0/+13It's already been said here that Mario Land on the Game Boy was actually sweet, I just wanted to see if anyone else loved the music to that game as much as i did.
The music when your in the sub, or the music to the beach level are VG Music classics.- TimmyGUNZ, on 04/17/2008, -0/+3See my comment from above. The ending music on that game is one of my favorites all time!
- magicaltrevor, on 04/17/2008, -0/+2I completely agree. Half the reason I loved it so much was the music.
- ApolloT4L, on 04/19/2008, -0/+1Too damn right.... this list lost respect the moment they dissed Super Mario Land.... I must have played and completed this game 30-40 times... if not more.
As to the music, awesome. How they got such sweet music from the Gameboy speaker is beyond me... awesome even to this day.
This list is opinion and bad opinion too. There are a number of games on the list that were classic or not half bad! Idiots!
- thebza451, on 04/17/2008, -2/+14Blue Man Group had nothing to do with the Feel The Magic game... buried for the writer's shoddy journalism skills (can't even wikipedia or google it dood?)
- Philbert, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1Not only that but I had a lot of fun with FTM before I sold off my DS.
- raublekick, on 04/17/2008, -1/+11Now wait a damn minute here 1up...
Super Mario Land is a decent game. Had it not had the name "Mario" attached to it, it would be viewed in a better light.
Gradius III!? This is such a superb shooter, and one of the best in the Gradius series!
Wave Race: Blue Storm had a lot to live up to, but your complaint about the controls is easily remedied since you can CUSTOMIZE THE SENSITIVITY. Personally, I thought that Blue Storm's controls were just like the original game's, but the defaults were set to be a bit more sensitive.
Feel The Magic might not be made of a lot of substance, but considering it was the first minigame type game on the DS and it's actually FUN, let's cut it some slack here.
Clockwork Knight might not be what everyone wanted, but it's still a decent platformer? I dunno, I don't think it's that bad.
Personally I don't like Kameo much, but I remember it getting fairly glowing reviews...
I'd like to look back at 1up's scores for these games, I have a feeling they wouldn't be all that bad.- imikedaman, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1"Super Mario Land is a decent game. Had it not had the name "Mario" attached to it, it would be viewed in a better light."
What?? If it didn't have Mario in it, it would have faded into obscurity with a 5/10 rating and no one would miss it. There were so many great platformers back in the day that received mediocre ratings, poor sales, and were all but forgotten, simply because it didn't have Mario in it.
Mario Land is a decent game, but the only reason anyone even cares in the first place is because of how much the Mario name improves ratings and sales.

- theragu40, on 04/17/2008, -1/+3"...like only finding one severed finger in your bowl of chili and saying, 'Well, at least it wasn't the entire hand.'"
What a great quote. - Carramrod72, on 04/17/2008, -2/+4Perfect Dark came with my 360 when I got it in '05 and that game SUCKED D. I think I sold it back for .79 cents a week later.
- Ascus, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1The only game I still play on my XBox is Mad Dash. My kids love it. Suprised to see it on the Bombs. Yeah is kind of whimiscal for most adults, but 8-10 y/os love it.
- akilleen, on 04/17/2008, -0/+9Damn, what is Gradius 3 doing on that list? While certainly nothing spectacular, it was still a good game. If that is one of the worst launch titles for SNES, then I think the SNES did pretty damn good.
- republikdh, on 04/17/2008, -0/+3Few thoughts-
I thought Super Mario Land was a great game and have fond memories of playing it.
As far as the Sega Dreamcast. Being there on day one and buying the system and practically every launch game associated with it, the worst by far was Blue Stinger. Hyped as a alternative to Resident Evil (which Im a huge fan of) this game had downright frustrating controls, awful camera system, bad story, bad graphics and I burned it about 20 minutes into playing.
Whats worse is the kids at IGN gave it an 8.4 and praised the game.
Sorry, Im still a bit bitter about the whole situation. - jjintheuk, on 04/17/2008, -8/+258008 is funny to a 9 year old, didnt you think it was amazing when you discovered it?! The article is largely good, but at the end the Xbox 360 one is rubbish, Kameo has an above average rating. Plus I doubt if that PS3 title was that bad, although I havent played it so...
jackthewelshman.blogspot.com - TimmyGUNZ, on 04/17/2008, -0/+2How can you complain about controls on the Gameboy? The Gameboy was never known for it's tight, arcade-like buttons.
- Mansellisme, on 04/17/2008, -0/+0How can you complain at 4 buttons and a d-pad in the first place?
- EvilFerret, on 04/18/2008, -0/+2Er......The Gameboy only had 2 buttons, unless you're counting the select/start buttons for some reason.
- Mansellisme, on 04/18/2008, -1/+0Yes i am, because they are " buttons ".
- EvilFerret, on 04/18/2008, -0/+2Er......The Gameboy only had 2 buttons, unless you're counting the select/start buttons for some reason.
- Mansellisme, on 04/17/2008, -0/+0How can you complain at 4 buttons and a d-pad in the first place?
- cudealer, on 04/17/2008, -2/+4As long as 1UP keeps running crap like this, they'll go the way of Games For Windows mag.
- nlatimer, on 04/17/2008, -0/+4Dude, GFW got absorbed into 1UP.
You lose. Good day sir.- cudealer, on 04/17/2008, -1/+1That was the point of my comment...
- HolyChimp, on 04/17/2008, -0/+11up will be aborbed into itself?
- cudealer, on 04/17/2008, -1/+1That was the point of my comment...
- nlatimer, on 04/17/2008, -0/+4Dude, GFW got absorbed into 1UP.
- ClarkNoHeart, on 04/17/2008, -0/+25Terrible, terrible list. Most of those games are pretty good.
- thedogfatherx, on 04/17/2008, -0/+15This guy is on crack.
- dumpling, on 04/17/2008, -0/+21Woah. I usually take 1up as gospel, but DAMN this list is just...incorrect.
- versapak, on 04/17/2008, -2/+10This list is all kinds of fail.
Buried as lame, though inaccurate would certainly be another valid reason. - TheKorn2, on 04/17/2008, -0/+3I've lost all respect for 1up. Not mentioning "Keith Courage in Alpha Zones" as possibly one of the worst pack-in games EVER is a MASSIVE oversight!
- profboobs, on 04/17/2008, -1/+11Super Mario Land was great!
- dysfunct, on 04/17/2008, -2/+8Should be:
#1: All VirtualBoy Launch titles.
Yeah... you remember now.- FecalHurler, on 04/17/2008, -0/+3#2: And every subsequent title.
- gametavern, on 04/17/2008, -0/+5Whats wrong with mario 2 for GBA? I LOVED that!
