- backflip10019, on 10/28/2007, -4/+23Umm, where? All of the shooters on the list (either first or third person) are possibly as far away from "generic" as you can get.
Army of Two relies heavily on the idea of cooperation so much more than we (as gamers) have ever seen before.
Call of Duty 4 has completely tweaked the online multiplayer experience, as you may or may not have seen in the beta.
Crysis promises to use the most intelligent AI ever seen in a game.
Mass Effect (if you can even call this a shooter) gives players a deep RPG experience, while at the same time allows them to blow ***** up.
Umbrella Chronicles is probably the first or second shooter on the Wii that is guaranteed to work. With the Wii Zapper in hand, this on rails shooter should give Wii owners an experience that they have not had the opportunity to have yet. - Typhoon2009, on 10/24/2007, -0/+19FTA:
Army Of Two, Assassin's Creed, Beowulf, CoD4, Contra 4, Crysis, GH3, Mass Effect, Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, Rock Band, Simpsons Game, Super Mario Galaxy, - lacronicus, on 11/04/2007, -3/+17Can someone fill me in on what makes haze so great? I'm extremely hesitant to say that it's just a pretty shooter, given my love of Crysis, but I've seen little that would set it apart. It seems to be nothing more than a linear, run-n-gun shooter, even from the videos. What is it that puts this one up there?
And I'm being honest here, I'd like to see it as a great shooter, but I'm still waiting to be convinced. - Akaji, on 10/24/2007, -0/+12PC games are great, especially for shooters and strategy games, but I much prefer the feel of a console controller in my hand while leaning back in a reclining chair for some shooters and all RPGs. Yes, you could try to do that on a computer, but very few computer games are designed for non-keyboard/mouse controllers (and even those that allow a controller cause you to be gimped because of how much more precise a mouse is).
- LordSkywalker, on 10/28/2007, -0/+12Subtitle: Prepare to be broke for the next 3 months.
- Godlesswanderer, on 11/11/2007, -3/+13It is? Are we talking about some kind of alternate reality where Goldeneye didn't exist?
- norman619, on 10/25/2007, -0/+9This is the best year for video games in a long time.
- mywhitenoise, on 10/25/2007, -2/+11It's Call Of Duty, of course i'm going to forget about it.
- Feep, on 10/25/2007, -3/+12Super Mario Galaxy. See: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=8340262 ...
Impressions from an early arriving Gamestop demo. Holy hell. - MacSuxWindozSux, on 10/24/2007, -4/+11Unreal Tournament 3 - Not Listed.
- backflip10019, on 10/24/2007, -0/+6At the time during which this was written, Army of Two was still slated for a 2007 release. It was only yesterday that the date was changed.
- BattleScars, on 10/24/2007, -3/+9You can take a drug called nectar that makes everything go trippy and makes you very trigger happy. However, if you overdose, you go completely ***** scitz and shoot the ***** out of your teammates. It's cool cos you can induce the effects in enemies and watch as they butcher their own squad. There is also vehicle combat and some sick looking guns. Oh yeah and you can fake your death in multiplayer then spring up and stab someone when they walk past.
- TheFlood16, on 10/24/2007, -1/+7Mass Effect has serious Game of the Year potential.
The only bad thing is that I preordered a long time ago in the store thinking that I would just upgrade to the LE when it was announced, but now with this whole stupid online only LE, I'm a little angry. - norman619, on 10/24/2007, -0/+6It's just a power up. UT2K4 uses something similar.
- maus56, on 10/24/2007, -0/+5And for 2008: Spore? And for 2009: Spore? More Spore plz.
- BritishGolgo13, on 10/24/2007, -0/+5I'm assuming he's implying the fact that once it reaches the homepage, it's already down. That's what I got anyway.
- fixedcoma, on 10/24/2007, -4/+9dont forget call of duty 4 too!
- lacronicus, on 10/24/2007, -0/+4You suck. The end.
Oh wait, you think differently? I rest my case then. - BFeld13, on 10/24/2007, -0/+4For those complaining about omissions, each of the writers picked three games that they were looking forward to most. It's not the end-all-be-all of previews.
- Blueshrike, on 10/24/2007, -2/+6I have to agree. Pump this guy up, digg me down! But one of us shall prevail! Or will we? Just because it's Mario and it's been done to death doesn't mean a new one won't have you thanking Nintendo for another masterpiece.

- charlescheese, on 10/24/2007, -0/+4Do you hate ponies too?
- fognozzle, on 10/24/2007, -2/+6I agree. Mario Galaxy has been described as gaming bliss, from those who played it at the trade shows. It will be a fantastic game.

I was really looking forward to Army of Two. Me and a friend play co op games religiously, and this looked like it could potentially kick as. - Megaten, on 10/24/2007, -0/+3Like Norman said, the Unreal series has been big on using 'adrenaline' power ups for a while now. Not to mention the suit system in Crysis seems like a much more fleshed out, and most likely better executed idea than just some 'drug' gimmick. Haze might use it to good effect and end up standing above more generic shooters, but let's not kid ourselves here. Look at The Darkness which came out recently. It was a solid little shooter with a fun little gimmick/twist on the typical FPS gameplay fare - and while a solid, very enjoyable game, it was also easily forgettable. I think you're gonna find that much (more likely, speculatively speaking) better shooters like Unreal Tournament 3 and Call of Duty 4 will easily overshadow it. Haze just doesn't seem like it can actually go up against bigger name franchises like Halo 3 this holiday season, regardless of which one is better or more deserving of attention.
- koweja, on 10/24/2007, -0/+3Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles alone is enough to get me through the end of the year, which is good because I can't afford all of these games. Contra 4 and Galaxy are the only other big titles that I'm going to get asap; the rest I'll wait and get them cheap on ebay in 2008.
- leontes, on 10/24/2007, -2/+5As usual, I'm personally hoping that the new nethack version gets released. Yes. I'm used to disappointment.
- norman619, on 10/24/2007, -1/+4Very little new in FPS. You do know that right? What makes a game great is how it uses these elements to enhance gameplay.
- Megaten, on 10/24/2007, -3/+6Anyone who actually made Goldeneye and Perfect Dark good left Rare and went and started up Free Radical, the creators of the Timesplitters series. And considering Timesplitters came out pretty soonafter those games, yea - it is one of the first good ones like he said.
(This is also, of course, if I'm ignoring the actually good ports of Unreal Tournament and Quake III that hit the Dreamcast in late 2000 - thank you for proper keyboard and mouse support back in 2000 that some companies still can't get right, Sega...) - mythicflux, on 11/11/2007, -4/+7The developer of Haze, Free Radical, also created Time Splitters for the PS2. TimeSplitters is considered to be one of the first good FPS games for consoles.
- lacronicus, on 10/24/2007, -1/+4And not many games use gil or rupees, but that doesnt mean the idea of currency in an RPG is original.
- inactive, on 10/24/2007, -6/+8Army of Two and Beowulf? What the *****?
I thought this was a serious list. - lacronicus, on 10/24/2007, -1/+3Not to mention the fact that the console version is about 3 years late to the party, and is STILL extremely good, both looking and playing.
- BattleScars, on 10/24/2007, -0/+2Dude, how old are you? I had trouble spelling 'fulfill' in kindergarten.
- BTConan, on 10/25/2007, -6/+8'completely tweaked' makes no sense at all
- Christbait, on 10/24/2007, -0/+2...and that just sounds so ***** retarded.
- Lunarbunny, on 10/24/2007, -1/+3I played the demo of Haze (PS3) at PAX and I can't say the Nectar mechanic is all that special, although I do say it's amusing ODing (although they make it hard to accidentally OD) and going nuts on your friends. The way they had it in the coop they were running was that it would nudge your aim towards your friends a little, and would fire for you if you aimed close to them.
Playing one of the rebel missions we got to mess around with nectar nades and knives. It was pretty effective (and amusing) to watch one of your enemies start shooting his buddies up.) Still, seemed a little gimmicky and not special enough to make me care.
Also, it might have been the fact that it wasn't a final build but the graphics weren't all that amazing to me. Plant models seemed to be a bit higher poly than maybe Joint Operations, and the building we went into on the rebel demo level was about as sparse as what you might find in JO. At least the physics and animations weren't as bad. - nagayoshi, on 10/24/2007, -3/+5Wow... no Hellgate: London... unbelievable...
- thanakar, on 10/24/2007, -0/+2There is nothing 'most anticipated' about the list. It is just a list of upcoming games that the author will buy. Article buried as lame and inaccurate.
- clemsontiger, on 10/24/2007, -2/+4UT 3 should not be given honorable mention while Simpson's actually has a spot. UT 3 is amazing in my opinion.
- thanakar, on 10/24/2007, -0/+2How bout the 'shroom's in Heretic. They made everything go psychadelic
