The Latest? The Hype.
The Bad? Made by Sony.
The Ugly? The Controler.
They didn't have to create an article for that :P - furtwan1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4What happened to my 3 gigabit ethernet ports? what about 2 1080p HDMI ports? What about the hard drive? What about it being twice as fast as the 360?
It seems like most of the claims Sony threw out at E3 last year have gone all vapor on us.
Developers are claiming it's hard to work with and isn't nearly as powerful as Sony claims. It doesn't have a good online network already in place, and it's looking like it could be late/expensive.
Finally, looking at where all the supposed perf comes from, I feel sorry for developers that have to shoe horn the SPE's into their engines.
I'd rather be in Microsofts position this round of consoles. - jpcoombs, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Anyone else get the sense that the PS3 is a sinking ship?
Give me Revolution anyday. - Weenis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2With so many games(and growing) that are just ported form one system to the other... Who even cares which console is more powerful? The Xbox was alot more powerful than the PS2 but only a handful of games actually showed that off. The next gen consoles are going to be the same. You're going to get virtually the same or comparable games and they are going to look virtually the same on your TV.
- DiggRadar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3XBox 360 and XBox Live involve a lot of complex software, something Microsoft has deep experience with. While most people are focusing on the hardware of the PS3 vs. the XBox 360, I wonder how much the operating system, server software, server farm maintenance, etc. will play a role in the success of the respective platforms.

Did anyone else notice they've used the cover of Condemned for this "211"? - stealthboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3One word: Revolution.
- redman5419, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Sony still swears up and down that the PS3 will be released this spring..."
Uh, no it doesn't...
http://www.gamespot.com/news/6144963.html - jguy584, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think sony has gotten themselves into a world of ***** with PS3, It better be as good as the demo's show for sony's sake
Oh and $80 games? wow sony your F*cked - SweetsGreen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Viva la Revolution!!!!
- CompWhiz2010, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The only good games I see are cross platform. Most of the other games are based on animated cartoon series. For all the hype the games don't seem that good.
- hoffmack5000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm generally a PC gamer, but this has titles I'm interested in i.e. MGS4, possibly Tekken (a bit repetitive, eh?) But at that pricepoint, Revolution it is. Nintendo has true innovation instead of the same rehashed, overpriced ideas.
- SimonX314, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Alot of those games are cross platform.
- fani, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1sony is phony.
- zachgc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I look at that list of games and one WAY overused word comes to mind... "Meh." I may want 3 of those games in that list. For me it's going to be the same deal as it was with the PS2. None of the launch games nor any of the games on the horizon interest me at all... so I'll just wait a couple of years till there's actually a hand full of games that I can't get on any of the other systems. Maybe after a Sucker Punch or an Insomniac game (or a God of War) comes out for it I'll be interested but for now... I wouldn't spend $500 (let alone $800) on it.
But what will be interesting is how Sony's online gaming service turns out, which is an area that Sony can have a potential advantage if they choose to offer downloadable multimedia content. Which is where I think even Microsoft is a little surprised how profitable they're downloadable content really is. - CapAmerica, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I wouldn't trust 1Up, alot of the games they have listed are purely assumptions.
Square has time and time again denied that a Final Fantasy VII remake will happen AND Square has yet to announce that Final Fantasy XIII will come to the PS3. Also saying that Soul Calibur 4 will be PS3 Only is total BS especially when Namco has come out and said that Soul Calibur 4 is going to me Multi-console.
I'm officially done with 1Ups lies. This was the final straw. They are just trying to make the PS3 out to be something better and are more then willing to lie, twist peoples words and bend the truth to make the PS3 look better. - I8PP, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Kinda glad I read that now. I didn't know about the FFVII tech demo for the PS3, or that it's highly likely going to be a proper remake of the game
- mandarin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1No they're not a big consortium of idiots, they are a bunch of geriatric chainsmoking idiots who wants to control media formats, region formats and whole bunch of overpriced hardware....
Good luck with UMD, Memory sticks, resource-hogging software and bad PSP ads.. - milkfilk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The MGS solid developer demo movie (where they stop and rotate the camera live on the PS3, in-game) was a ray of sunlight. My bet is on Q4, November. But speculation just isn't worth anything.
I want to swing a sword with Revolution's controller. Hot. - jpcoombs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Rockstar Ping Pong on PS3 or Revolution....
no brainer. - kneecarrot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Am I the only one who is feeling pretty jaded with the "next generation" of consoles? I just haven't heard any compelling reasons why I should plop down a grand for a new console.
- Braingoo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Viva la Revolution
- Inferno52386, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1After playing fight night 3 on the xbox 360, my mind has been completely off the PS3. The only game I wanna play on the system is MGS, and socom of course :-) but thats about it...
- ewestj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I saw somewhere that Sony has scaled back its claim of supporting 1080p and now the PS3 will max out at 720p. This artivle may not have the latest updates.
- GuyNextDoor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Can the Revolution fanboys shut it? Good grief...it's as if you all are just content to dance on the pre-dug grave of Sony before they even have a chance. I know it's all in good fun (I hope), but everytime there is a post about PS3, the big N fanboys are sure to make numerous "viva la revolution" comments. I'm down with what Nintendo is trying to do (except for their complete disregard for HD), but man, I hope all these consoles see success and close sales, as opposed to the lopsided generation we are passing out of (PS2 owned everybody in sales). Nintendo is taking some very big risks in this coming generation as well, and there is NO gurantee that they will be successful with it. Sony has also taken big risks with some crazy technologies on board, and from where things are right now, looks to be struggling to pull this one off (at a price we can afford). Microsoft, on the other hand, probably took the safest route by taking the angle of "perfecting" the current console scheme, that while far from revolutionary, is a VERY solid offering.
With that said, the PS3 needs a big morale boost from somewhere...maybe E3? I have no plans to get a PS3 in the early goings, as my Xbox360 will be well matured by the time the PS3 comes out, and the games will *hopefully be taking full advantage of the hardware inside. I'm interested in Nintendo, but unsure how the crazy controller scheme will pan out (any response lag will kill the experience people!). - froz3ntear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ive always had a ps2 and loved it, but I'm thinking about switching over to the Revolution next gen espcially if it has Smash brothers ONLINE. Theres always only a few reasons you get systems anyways. I wanted an xbox for fable but it came out on the computer (yay) so no xbox for me. I got the ps2 solely for GT4, but I'm enjoying a few other games like God of War. I only recently bought a used game cube for one game, SMASH BROTHERs... and if the revolution comes out at $250 or less... ill probably get it right away to play ssb.
- jedi55555, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I hope the less sequels thing is being sarcastic. There are tons of seaquels in the PS3 line up so far but that is ok because one of them is Warhawk.
- mark_in_bc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's all ugly if they never ship the thing.
- dumbsurfbum, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1And I said, how bout a revolution?
- sirgad, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1What JPCOOMBS and BRAINGOO said. Rawr.
- Protagoras, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Fairly interesting article, although it provides nothing of real interest. Are they serious in releasing three Mahjong titles for a next-gen system?? I mean, Sony fanboys generally rave about how the Playstation has more games, but is it worth investing in a new system to play Mahjong in HD with surround sound? = /
- breakneckridge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I hate websites that split a short article into a zillion pages. Bad webdesign = no digg from me.
- Comsamvimes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oh man...when I saw the picture they had for Aquanaut's Holiday: IMA, I seriously thought they were making an "Action League Now!" game. It *is* the same figure they used for Stinky Diver, after all :-(
- Nico_, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Heres to hoping that all next gen consoles are great and that there is an end to exclusive games for any console.
Exclusives suck, who ever heard of a movie that only plays on a Toshiba DVD player....
Anyway quit bashing consoles, we need all 3 consoles to succeed. The more consoles that are sold the more games will be made. - number8888, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I am surprise by the name of titles supposedly in development for the PS3. Let's just hope that a couple of good ones actually make it out.
- rebrad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It gets worse everyday for the $ony PS3. 720P, didn't XBOX do that how many years ago? Sounds like the PS3 would have been a good console if it were released a year ago but I would expect better tech in 2007. Hell the mini mac can do more than the PS3. Maybe $ony can make a deal with Apple.
- jpcoombs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0nnonix -
You're from that same breed who said "DS has no business being mentioned with PSP." - weiran, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's outdated already, it was recently announced that it would only support 720p instead of 1080p, possibly the one main advantage the PS3 had over the XBOX 360.
- ryogahibiki, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm waiting for the PS3 to come out...then I'm buying a Xbox 360 due to their sudden price drop! :)

I know I for one am very excited about owning a "next generation" console--in about 4 years. Hell, I just bought a Gamecube last weekend, to supplement the Dreamcast I got a couple years ago. For the $400 I would have spent on an X-Box 360 I'll end up with the Gamecube, a couple wireless controllers, 4 sets of Bongos, a memory card, and a dozen or more games. There are a ton of great Gamecube games available now for $13-20 and that makes my gaming budget go a lot further.
If the Revolution comes out at a reasonable price it has the opportunity to be the first console I've owned while it was in its prime since the Atari 2600. Otherwise I'll just wait and pick up one of the new systems in several years when the price has dropped and games are available cheaper. I'm more of a PC gamer, but I like consoles for games to play with the wife or when we have friends/family over.
Microsoft and Sony are pricing themselves out of reach for the casual gamer. Of course, maybe that's just my way of saying I'm a cheap SOB. - ahhell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The article should read like this:
Confirmed information about the PS3:
..............................................
End of article
I wonder how much 1Up got paid to write this lame ass article. - jpcoombs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oh and for the PS3 people who say "Well it's a Blu Ray drive too!" - *****.
Who here watches DVD's from their PS2? I know that I own a DVD player and a PS2. I think I played 2 DVD's in the system it's entire life. - GRIMREAPER187, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"I hate websites that split a short article into a zillion pages. Bad webdesign"
they do that for the people still on dial up - chriszma666, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think theres alot more bad and ugly than they touched on.
- SoberEmu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0FTA: "The PS3 controller ... will be a great departure from the DualShock-style controllers that have previously been Sony's standard"
Yeah, its gonna be a huge departure, cuz uhh there's new buttons on it..wait no.....cuz the buttons are in different places? nope. Same controller, more sucky shape. - BlindIrishman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow, I never knew how many games they had in development! Regardless of your opinion on the system and its features, you've got to admit those games look interesting. Nintendogs type game for ps3? Like 5 different High-Rez Pachinko, Go, and other obscure Japanese board games? CLOWN COMBAT?!??
I might not be buying it right away, but I plan on owning all 3 next-gen systems as the prices start to drop. Start saving a little now and you shouldn't have to decide either. - migsims, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0hmm... looks like I won't own all 3 consoles like the last-gen, might just be sticking to 360 and the revolution... and that's after I see if the Revolution can really do anything with that controller of theirs.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1the hype, the japanese, the delay till 2007
- BugMeNot2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0"What happened to my 3 gigabit ethernet ports? what about 2 1080p HDMI ports? What about the hard drive? What about it being twice as fast as the 360?"
They still have gigabit ethernet ports, they still have 2 1080p HDMI ports, and they still have a hard drive, albeit it's optional. The "being twice as fast as the 360", however, is not true.
And the PS3 is, with what we know, still capable of producing 1080p images, but games that take advantage of this resolution will probably not be released until a few years after the console's release. - nnonix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Mentioning a Revolution in a PS3 or Xbox360 thread is like mentioning Tonka when talking about Chevy and Ford.
