- assum09, on 10/12/2007, -2/+36The DS owns. End of story.
- lockedon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Mario Kart ds is still a good one ;). A lot of games are good for ds.
- imikedaman, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16Thank god no one said Metroid Prime: Hunters. That game was surprisingly boring and generic for a Metroid game.
EDIT: "Games that you're too afraid to admit suck: Final Fantasy III, Metroid Prime Hunters"
Woo, I just found my new favorite site. :-D - lunarworks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12I completely agree with Advance Wars DS.
It took me AGES to FIND the game (limited run, rarely appears used), but after a good deal on eBay I'm totally enjoying it. - fakeplasticsnow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10I like how they put Castlevania on a couple of those lists. It's the most under appreciated DS game.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+15New Super Mario Bros FTW! Honestly, have any of you played that game's multiplayer? It's like playing the classic Mario only you're beating the ***** out of the other player and stealing their stars. That game is a must have if you have a partner to play it with.
- DeathBorn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7It's not impossible if you train. I beat it in one try once I got my team up enough levels (avg. 59). I have to admit it was extremely close.
- sirpsychosexy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9electroplankton, ftw.
- Gazpacho, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Hotel Dusk really does it for me. The music, animation, the story, the exploring-I love it. It feels original among all the other games. I will admit, though, the ending was a touch of a let down, personally.
- jrsims, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Was thinking about getting FF3. What sucks about it?
- trib4lmaniac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Hang on... is that a compliment? I think it is so I'll digg you up, EBA is fantastically addictive.
- tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I don't have a big DS collection (actually, it's only 5 games big), but my favourite is Yoshi's Island 2. Brings back great memories of playing on the SNES, and cosmetically it's wonderful.
- tknd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Tetris DS only shows up on one of the lists, lame.
- grumbel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Lost in Blue is sadly however also amazingly frustrating and tedious. The core I idea of that game is pretty cool, the implementation however is far less enjoyable then it should be.
- listrophy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Agreed. Advance Wars DS is such a fantastic game. It has a wonderful campaign mode and the minigames don't feel like minigames. Pick it up expecting 5 minutes of gameplay, and you'll want to play 15. Expect an hour and you'll wonder where those 4 hours went.
That, and I can hand it off to a non-gaming sibling and watch them thoroughly enjoy it. - Nukingtoolbox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3In my opinion New Super Mario Bros, Mario Kart and Tetris-are the 3 main DS games I have and am sure a-lot of other people do to. Because of the sheer excitement, logical thinking involved through getting the star coins, Wi-Fi connection, graphics, also through experiencing the game there are many new moves such as "Ground Pound" and as i like to call it "Ninjisu" - (because of the motion you do which is jump from wall to wall with the A button and the left and right arrow keys). Again Tetris another great game in terms of faculties, Wi-Fi connection, graphics and a endless "adventure" to be the master. Mario Kart is another great game which has had a-lot of potential to make rapid progress through the chart's, i mean i had to wait for my Auntie from America, L.A. to get the game because of it's popularity!
Note: This is from my experience through the games.
Questions:On New Super Mario Bros. How the heck do you get to worlds 4 and 7? I've got all the star coins except of course i cant access worlds 4 and 7 which is why I'm asking the question, plus i have all the special flag endings completed-(i think..sigh). - grumbel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3YI2 might be an acceptable game on its own, but it doesn't come anywhere near the quality of the original game. Its use of the double screen is also a pretty stupid one and one that limits the game quite a bit (DS can't use both screen with all its capabilities, so the game basically has to use half of what the DS actually can do).
- soulpiercer7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The only think I liked about metroid prime hunters was the control scheme. I loved it. I want to see some more first person shooters on the handheld. everything else was crappy
-poor level design
like seriously. hallways didn't go through, there were a bunch of dead ends. there were things that did nothing. it was unclear where to go. it just sucked.
-LAME story line
so you have this transmission that says that the ultimate weapon lies in the blah blah blah system. you and a few bounty hunters go searching for it. You get like 7 crystals and then you reveal where the "umtimate weapon" is. Do you know what this "ultimate weapon" is, a blaster for Samus's suit. THE END!
-most horrendously terrible pseudo-science descriptions given my the scan visor
for the ice beam type weapon, it says that it "utilizes cold-fusion to launch streams of plasma at near absolute zero". this made me want to chuck my DS at the wall. Cold-fusion is not cold. it is a researched (but probably impossible) technology that would allow atoms to fuse without the need for the intense atmospheric conditions (thousands of degrees and under lots of pressure). and plasma is an ionized gas, this thing fires a shotgun type blast of beams. Gas doesn't behave like that. the whole thing pisses me off.
the others are bad too but I'm not going to rant about those.
-There were very few different kinds of enemies. You fought the same ones over and over.
-almost all of the bosses were the same damn thing as well! all they did was add a new weapon or movement to the thing and call it a new boss. It gets old.
-they left in a lot of tedium in their game which is the number one thing a game developer should avoid. It got frustrating.
this game got rushed. You can tell. My friend is obsessed with the multiplayer but even he will attest to how terrible the single player is. The multiplayer may be fun but since you have to play it on a wifi hotspot (usually your house) you could be playing so many better first person shooters on your computer like the Half-life 2, unreal tournament, battlefield 2 etc. They take an amazing Gamecube game and take away all the things that made it great and gave us this mediocre game. It's still a Metroid title and i love the control scheme and multiplayer so i cut it a bit of slack.
overall 7/10. Let Retro Studios (maker of the Gamecube versions) do the next one Nintendo. This one is an abomination to the series. - DeathBorn, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5New Super Mario Brothers was fun, but not the best by far. Elite Beat Agents is definitely the best, I can attest to that, but it should have been tied with Ouendan as #1. Plus, Castlevania should have definitely beaten out Mario Kart. Castlevania was a masterpiece, while Mario Kart's snaking and cheating AI messed up the game for lots of people. My list would be:
1) EBA/Ouendan (doesn't count since it's an import)
2) Advance Wars DS
3) Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
4) Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow
5) Mario Kart DS - sofaKing812, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I was apprehensive about importing Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan!, but that game was freaking awesome. It made me want to pop in the original PaRappa and play the ***** out of that; but the new quarter started before I could.
- grumbel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Get the mushroom that makes you small and finish the boss levels in world 3 and world 6, at the end of the level there is a small path that will lead you to 4 and 7 when you are small.
- dext3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Man, I got the game around release day and I'm still stuck in some dungeon facing this dude who keeps using Blizzera and *****. I haven't played it in months now because that douche pissed me off so bad.
- trib4lmaniac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2There are many different endings depending on your actions before you finish.
- zetec, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Elite Beat Agents is fun as crap.
When do we get a sequel? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+31) Phoenix Wright series
2) Lost In Blue series
3) Trauma Center: Under the Knife
4) Club House Games
5) Metroid Pinball
I really can't believe no one mentioned the Lost In Blue games. It's an amazingly immersive and addictive game. - skywake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I wonder what it would have looked like if they made the list next week
sure MKDS is the best game on the DS currently, but will it keep that title with Pokemon D/P out?
disappointed they didn't mention Clubhouse Games
that game is too good for a game based around card and board games - hartley, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Love the picture of the Supercard in the last photo.
Seems she loves every DS game. Oh, and homebrew... - wetard57, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Brain Age, FTFW
- leetdood, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Phoenix Wright needs to be tacked on all of the lists. Period.
- squirmalicious, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1To whoever said Clubhouse Games should be in there: it's on at least one of the lists... there are seven different lists. Six bloggers and then the games that scored highest from the critics.
- DJDrastic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1DS=Awesomeness
Though it sucks for us , in South Africa. Nintendo's supplier here has gone out of biz , and we have to import everything now :( - Homunculiheaded, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I thought FFIII was a breeze, but maybe I'm too old and default to 'grind for a few hours' far too often. I always thought RPGs were about 'kick some ass', 'get ass kicked', 'grind, grind, grind'.... 'grind some more', 'kick ass again'. The fun is in finding the best ratio of exp/diffult monsters, and exploiting the system to get as strong as you can as fast as possible.
Izuna was actually one of my favorite games, although most critics hated it, it perfectly satisfied my need for a great old-school rpg. It had enough complexity in it's combat system to make you always feel like you were just about to finally become way over-powered, while never getting you quite there. Which kept me entertain for a long time. - LamentMoon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@ trib4lmaniac:
Did it really? That would explain why I got a different ending the second time... I just thought it was because I beat the game already. - andrewrchambers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Best stages are YMCA and Let's Dance. Gotta love bowie.
I didn't think I'd love EBA as much as I do but it is absolutely fantastic. Can't get any perfects, though - having said that i've watched lots of videos on youtube of perfect scores and they are insane, so I'll probably just stick with my B ratings. - buu2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I love the last picture. His favorite ds game is a supercard, perfect for carrying up to 50 ds games with only one cartridge!
- flute, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0club house games is on there right?
- imikedaman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Ah yes, YI2 is a fun game. My only complaint is that the levels are too freaking huge... I mean to the point where it just stops becoming a fun diversion and starts becoming really tedious.
- mrbass, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0These are my favorites Nintendo DS Games with screenshots of course.

Also for those who know a tad of Japanese here's the best Japanese ones. I'm not totally fluent in Japanese so I do have my wife test out some of the ones that require a good command of Japanese.

I did enjoy reading all of the dsfanboy's authors pics...that is one of my favorite DS blogs to keep up on news. The other news sites I like for DS news are:
http://gonintendo.com/?cat=5
http://www.maxconsole.net/?mode=downloads&feed=nds - RandomGuySteve, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Anyone want to post all the editors top 5?
I think the site is pretty crappy and the fact that EACH list is in a separate link (probably for advertising purposes). - squirmalicious, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2YI2 is fun, definitely.
I like that the DS has such variety. I don't really have a -ton- of games, but there's -always- something to play. There are more DS games than anything else on my GameFly lists, too. - Jesse, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Who are the writers? The blog's authors??
- indraneel24, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1what, no elite beat agents?
