- richehh, on 01/07/2009, -10/+48Cannot stand these multiple page articles.
- MrFettuccine, on 01/08/2009, -2/+23Dugg for the realization that Activision is milking the GH franchise to death... even more than the Tony Hawk series.
- inactive, on 01/08/2009, -3/+22"Hell, know what? Give us a new engine, Valve. Don’t get us wrong, Source is awesome, but it has been over four years now… couldn’t you maybe make Half-Life 2: Episode 3 into Half-Life 3? That would surprise the hell out of everyone! It’d be great! And of course, Portal 2 would be there too. Pretty please?"
Maybe these idiots should try making their OWN ***** game engine, and see how nontrivial that is. - anttheman101, on 01/08/2009, -13/+31cannot stand GAMESRADAR..seriously put a good video game website up there..everyone submits these and how do they get to the front page?..they're horrible.
- ObiNguyen, on 01/08/2009, -0/+13Those babycentric games must be stopped.
- HalsMyPal, on 01/08/2009, -1/+14nintendo is dissapointing me soooo much!
I see so much promise in a system like the Wii, but this casual-gamer crap and shoveling of the *****-ware is pushing me away!
All of the serious games that have come out on the wii have been pretty great
Zelda, Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, smash brothers, and the ports of Okami and RE4 (which is even better on wii).
I think the wii format is the way to go as far as incresing game play, but not with the market they are targeting.
Yeah it could be more powerful, but honestly i dont need more graphics, where we are at now is great anything more to me is just excess. I dont want to go back to dual-analog, i like shooting space pirates with the wii-mote much more than with the analog sticks on gc, i like slashing the sword and aiming arrows, i like painting the attacks and techniques on Okami with the remote, but it doesn't look like Nintendo cares....... all they care about is their damn casual gamer. - Barackalypse, on 01/08/2009, -1/+12I can't believe in discussing Farcry 2 they failed to mention the utterly annoying infinitely re spawning checkpoint guards, which really suck when you have to drive halfway across the map to complete a mission and end up going through 6 of the things on the way there, and then the same 6 on the way back.
- Immune, on 01/08/2009, -0/+10Actually, your response would be posted on 78 pages.
/smartass - SreyaNotfilc, on 01/08/2009, -1/+11Well to be honest richehh the article is only 6 pages long. Each page has a decent lenght to it as well. It doesn't seem as if GamesRadar is trying to whore ads from each page click, but is trying to be efficient in the way it's showing its data. Honestly, if they took all of the content from that article and place it on one page, one would either get lost in the article, or have to wait a bit for the page to load all of it's content or even both.
It's not like Forbes.com or other sites that just shows one or two small paragraphs by a picture and expect you to go through a list of 23 anecdotes. There are times when multiple pages are annoying, but I do not think this is one of them. - MentalBeaver, on 01/08/2009, -0/+10As soon as I see an article from Games Radar I just bury it based on the assumption that a) It will be a ***** article and b) It will span as many pages as possible.
So, Games Radar : ***** you and the horse you rode in on. - deshabble, on 01/07/2009, -0/+10Not just 'Babyz', but every girl focused DS game. Interior design anyone?
- RandomSkratch, on 01/08/2009, -0/+9Dugg for (possibly) NSFW crotch shots of Alison Carroll
- GawtMilk, on 01/08/2009, -0/+9Oh, and the fact that you have to drive all the way across the map every single level is just boneheaded level design.
The "diamonds" were probably just added for the Gamer Score obsessed jerk wads, I stopped picking them up after the fifth one because they have no impact on the game - you get more than enough money to buy all the weapons you need just doing a few side quests.
The ending is stupid, because you don't have a sense of accomplishment. You don't even know the fate of your character, it just cuts to black.
The NPC "allies" you meet have no use for the story or for gameplay, and they are forced to die at certain points along the game anyway.
The weapons are lame - you can carry a .50 caliber machine gun and a sniper rifle, but carrying a SMG with a sniper rifle is too heavy?
Who the ***** cares about the "random encounter" system when driving? You could be parked by the side of the road in a small subcompact car and suddenly a 4x4 with a machine gun starts shooting at you.
There are hundreds of vehicles trying to kill you when you are trying to drive to your mission objective, but the SECOND you get out of the car they mysteriously vanish. This means that if your car explodes or gets stuck you have to traverse that entire 50km map on foot.
Plus, the game is incredibly easy to beat. Carry the machine gun, a sniper and a machine pistol and you are unstoppable when on foot.
Find a grenade launching 4x4 and you can one-hit kill any vehicle or infantry unit. - Jinstevens, on 01/08/2009, -0/+9Allison Carroll (doing gynecological inspired kicks and splits) redeemed an article that had way too many annoying baby pictures, ran too many pages and didn't have nearly enough pictures about what the heck the writer was talking about. Just skip to page 6.
- deema1, on 01/08/2009, -1/+10Gears of War 2, and the entire Epic team. And they should remain on this list until they get off their asses and fix their broken game.
- WhoDoneIt, on 01/08/2009, -5/+13I'm going to post my response to this article on 25 different pages. One ***** word at a time.
I refuse to click that many times. In fact I will not go to this website again for an article. So while you thought you might make extra ad revenue $$$ by having us click a zillion times, I'm sure others feel the same as I do. No extra clicks for you. One page said it all for me. - bustaballs, on 01/08/2009, -0/+7I dugg you up but I partly agree with the quoted text. I don't really want to pay $60+ (extra for download content) on a game that uses a nearly five year old engine. I'm a small time indie game dev so I know, to an extent, how difficult the development process is and I can understand where you're coming from but you know.. making new games on new engines is kind of what these guys are paid to do. The source engine is great and all but all of the games that used it mostly consumed the last generation's console and PC games.
- MrFettuccine, on 01/08/2009, -0/+6Yes, much more than any other franchise. 6 GH games came out in a little over a year while 3 did for RB. I believe at least 3 more GH games are coming out in 2009 making at least 9 GH games in 2.5 years. I can't think of any other franchise that is squeezing as much as they can out of the GH name. Activision is just trying to get as much money as they can by slapping the GH name on all these games but I guess it seems to be working since people are eating it up.
- paidhima, on 01/08/2009, -0/+6I didn't expect much from GamesRadar, and that comment from them did not surprise me. While I can understand giving ***** to a developer that uses an old and clearly outclassed engine for a new game, there's still a lot of life in the Source engine and Valve has done nothing but improve it. Just look at Episode 2 vs Episode 1 or original HL2. The amount of polish the engine got for Ep 2 was astonishing, and it really showed how much room Source has for further refinement. L4D also managed to look good, with impressive use of light and shadow.
I see no reason for Valve to abandon Source for a new engine right now. I'll take a mature, stable and accomplished engine over new flash any day. - Blakovitch, on 01/08/2009, -1/+7They forgot to include: Games "journalism" sites that write content specifically as digg bait, then spread it out over 5 million pages to generate maximum pageviews and profit. Really could have done without that this year.
- tmyprod, on 01/08/2009, -0/+6"Halo 3: Hell-Jumpers" would have been a much better name.
- XanthZeax, on 01/08/2009, -3/+9What's the problem with Blizzard releasing StarCraft II in 3 parts, if it gets me multiplayer faster I'll buy it in a heartbeat. Especially considering Blizzard goes above and beyond with supporting and balancing their games. BroodWar is still being played a lot more than most other games and it's 10 years old. Can you name any other video game that has the longevity of a Blizzard game?
Plus you're getting 90 missions total, compared to 30 for StarCraft and 30 for BroodWar. Also Blizzard games are usually $40-$50, with hundreds if not thousands of hours of gameplay (I know I've gotten my thousands from, StarCraft, WarCraft, Diablo and WoW, hell I even played Lost Vikings as a kid.)
GamesRadar sucks, holy ***** 6 pages with pop-ups. - toughluck2, on 01/08/2009, -1/+7There's over 1000 words on each page... I don't really understand why pagination, when it's reasonable, is such a bad thing. I'd rather not scroll through 6000 words and images and embedded videos. The only time I'd rather something this big were on one page would be if I wasn't going to read it (because clicking isn't that big a deal if you do it once every 1000 words), but was just going to scroll down to see what the entries were, in which case, it would feel like you had to click a lot, because you're not taking any time to read it. But I don't think was how it was intended to be viewed - maybe it should have been.
- Mackofalltrades, on 01/08/2009, -0/+5Wait that game is real? Thats not a shoop? Someone needs to be killed.
- vonbroner, on 01/08/2009, -3/+8oooohh chill out those pages had craploads on each one. next you're gonna say you wish a helper monkey typed everything for you.
- inactive, on 01/08/2009, -2/+6No, they're paid to make FUN games, not games that look pretty. Most games these days spend far too much time trying to add new effects and not enough time actually making the game enjoyable to play.
E.g. Would you rather a smoking hot blonde who just lays there in bed, or would you rather just an above average girl who gives you the ***** of a lifetime?
I know which one I would want. - GawtMilk, on 01/08/2009, -1/+5Who the hell enjoys the "drive from A to B, back to A, cut through C then finally shoot general "hiding" at location D" elements of games? That is what made GTAIV a bit of a disappointment, and that is why I didn't like Far Cry 2. The Sims never made you drive to work everyday, because that would be boring. Counter-Strike doesn't make you complete a extensive three-week training course before each round, because that would be boring. Far Cry 2 shouldn't slap you in the face and make you "enjoy" the open-world environment, because it is BORING!
That, and the game is incredibly buggy. Get shot while riding the handglider and you'll see what I mean. - zip000, on 01/08/2009, -0/+4a helper monkey would be nice.
- InfinitySnatch, on 01/08/2009, -0/+4Imagine Party Babyz
I don't know what I raged harder about, the fact that it exists or that someone at IGN thought it was about as good as No More Heroes, but both of my eyes were bleeding. - Perch, on 01/08/2009, -0/+4Yes, we tend to separate pages for flow and just for a goddam break in the text. 1000 words, with images and video on every page, warrants a break. It's not like we're writing 200 words or less per page, people. Also, I'd like to point out that last year's anti-awards were 19 PAGES because of GR's old design. New design? Six pages. Less than half, same amount of content. I feel that's a step forward.
- Aethirig, on 01/08/2009, -0/+4Unless your old code is really boning you, there's not a lot of reason to rewrite the entire thing. Sound, math, and input stuff probably won't change too much, and I imagine they have a lot of hours invested in editing and scripting code. So, they could take some shiny new graphics code and integrate it with the existing framework, and call it something new. No need to throw everything away when making a new engine.
- petebot, on 01/08/2009, -0/+4You do know that it is not the same exact engine as it was 5 years ago. I don’t know ***** about programming, but a friend of mine who does says that it is modular, and sections of the engine can be tweaked rather easily.
- WhoDoneIt, on 01/08/2009, -0/+4Dugg, for that you would actually count my words. Smartass. :)
- WesleyD, on 01/08/2009, -2/+6Stop bitching. What "good video game" websites are there? What.. like Gamespot? Pffft.. lol. They all suck in some sort of way.
This was actually a good read, you should check it out. By the way, I don't know how this ***** gets to the fp either, every article they put out gets submitted to digg.. what kind of stupid ***** is that? - YouRookies, on 01/08/2009, -0/+3"BroodWar is still being played a lot more than most other games and it's 10 years old. Can you name any other video game that has the longevity of a Blizzard game?"
Yes, the hardcore Street Fighter 2 scene. Almost 20 years and it is still played at EVO. http://www.evo2k.com/. HD Remix just came out so that'll add another 10 years to the game.
There's no problem with Blizzard releasing SC2 in different parts. This is Blizzard, not EA. They actually try to make their games good. If they say they need more than 10 stages per race for the story that's fine by me. - andrewglover87, on 01/08/2009, -1/+4Dugg for giving Portal the ass-kicking it needed for lack of sequel.
- bustaballs, on 01/08/2009, -0/+3I put somewhere around 200 hours into that game and I got about 4 or 5 crash-to-desktop. That's the only bug I ran into. If that's considered broken then I don't know what PC game is considered functional.
- Godlike, on 01/08/2009, -0/+3It's better than ManBearPig being in Sonic. Or is it more of a PigManBear?
Anyway who cares if tweeny chicks want to screw around with fruity games? *hides the my little pony cart* - voldron, on 01/08/2009, -1/+4Coming from someone who develops mods for source, me, the easiest way to get the whiners to shut up would be to slap some pretty shaders in there and call it a day. Honestly people don't look much beyond visuals and story. The physics in source are pretty well done, thank you Havok. Also the animations come directly the .mdl file, so how ever good your animators are is how good things will look on that end. Sure it may not be Unreal 3 or CryEngine, no DirectX 10 support yet(though you can compile your own shaders for DX10). But also a lot of large companies have purchased Unreal over Source, mostly political in my opinion because they have been using Unreal for quite some time.
Also I have been working on developing my own engine, it's not easy people. So before anyone goes spouting off about "They need a new engine", go do it yourself and come back to us with a valid argument. - vonbroner, on 01/08/2009, -0/+3...dammit. yeah it would be.
- sirflibble, on 01/09/2009, -0/+3The spawning ad windows behind the browser window is more annoying that the multiple page thing.
- voldron, on 01/08/2009, -1/+4Your friend is correct since you can swap models, textures, or sounds without having to recompile; that is if you keep the names the same. But also that means that you do not have to recompile everything. But with that said CryEngine2 and Unreal 3 are also modular.
I agree with what you said about the engine not being the same as it was 5 years ago. I started modding Source about 4 years ago and let me tell you, a lot has changed. The base is still the same but a lot methods in the code have been made obsolete or vastly improved.
The reason it isn't as "pretty" as Unreal boils down to one thing, Unreal is used by more companies than source and thus has more developers making the engine better and better. - petebot, on 01/08/2009, -0/+2I'd rather wait for a good sequel than get Portal 2: son of GLaDOS.
- nickert0n, on 01/08/2009, -0/+2And they are making ***** so they dont ***** care.
- petebot, on 01/08/2009, -0/+2Does anyone have anything good to say about Far Cry 2? That game still intrigues me for some reason...
- excalipoor, on 01/09/2009, -0/+2they need to give us a konami code to make the article into a one page article.
- popltree2, on 01/08/2009, -0/+2"...which is why many are accusing Blizzard of milking their fans for all they’re worth." Hmmm...haven't they been doing that all along with WoW?
- gs68, on 01/09/2009, -0/+2Well at least they acknowledged that Guitar Hero is essentially a glorified GitaDora.
Speaking of Bemani, Beat'n Groovy should've been a second runner-up to "Wasted Potential." What could've been a no-import-necessary way to play 5-button Pop'n Music was wasted on a 9-song, really easy piece of crap. - johnnyblazepw, on 01/08/2009, -0/+2pop ups? really? I don't even have a browser without a pop up blocker heh.
- XanthZeax, on 01/10/2009, -0/+2A little late on the response, but using Firefox on my mac without adblocker (I feel the need to support the webpages that I go to, it just makes me feel better.) I get a ***** tonne of pop up's. Doesn't seem to happen on Windows though ><.
