- Ray_Justice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18unless developers develop games for the 360 and PS3 that utilize the Wii remote, using Wiimote on a 360 or PS3 would be useless.
- NSMike, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16Expensive? The wiimote plus a bluetooth adapter plus tea lights as a makeshift sensor bar = about $55. Any good wireless mouse costs at least that much.
- Ignignokt01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11This is pretty exciting. Granted its not completely working yet, and they still have to get the nunchuk working too, but I think this stuff is worth buying a Bluetooth adapter for
- zapa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Well if you want to play Halo with wiimote, never gonna happen. Infrared aiming needs moving crosshair and in Halo crosshair is always at center.
- dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10But if they have girlfriends, they won't have any time to do awesome stuff like this.
They're taking one for the team. *salute* - fanboydcs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I am using it for my Home theater computer, it works amazingly well
- YourTechSupport, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Someone get these people some girlfriends...... as gifts for completing the project, don't want them getting preoccupied.
- 72doubledown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7this program + wiimote + HTPC with 40" HDTV = couch mouse and happy beer times!!
- cam0man, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I saw somebody else post in another related submission about the application of the Wiimote in HTPC's. What an incredible solution to avoid needing a mouse in your living room. Once this gets perfected, I think it'll definitely have a solid application in a lot of computing environments outside of gaming.
- NSMike, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Okay, Preemptive comment for everyone who calls "fake" -
Why do you consistently deny stories that people have been able to test? Go buy a Wii-Mote, a bluetooth adapter, and download the drivers and try it for yourself. It's not even remotely unbelievable that this is possible, so shut up and go home. No one wants to hear your unjustified skepticism just because you like being an *****. - BillDoE, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6That isn't going to happen with the xbox. Their wi-fi is totally proprietary. And, what Ray said.
- pingviini, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4three cheers for blizzard ds games
- JudgeMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4it wouldn't need a moving cursor. Yes on PC FPS games and well most normally controlled console FPS games for that matter, the cursor is centered, yes. But when you moved the wiimote, it would move your view. So the cursor would, in effect, be moving as you wanted it to.
On another one of these I think someone mentioned they tried quake or something, it was quirky as hell, and when you reached the end of the screen it bugged out, but it did kinda work. - 72doubledown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4 Me using the wiimote you the harmony... you want to drag race? You'd get so owned.
- velvet396, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4if you're reading this and considering doing it, I doubt you're the host of many parties.
aside from nerd gatherings, which would involve using the wiimote to play games, not control a pc playlist. - Milamber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"Notice how far back he has to stand to use the ir function."
I guess that the easiest way to fix this would be to use a custom sensor bar with the IR LEDs closer together - this would have the same effect as standing further back because the Wiimote is probably only measuring the apparent angle between the two sources. If it was being done any other way then you would need more than 2 sources.
Similarly, if people want to stand much further away than normal then they can use a custom sensor bar with the LEDs much further apart. - ArmchairAthlete, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Could help with a media-center PC if you set it up to have a very large cursor and large buttons on the UI. Maybe a special Winamp skin or something.
Then if you're having a party just take the remote out of your pocket and skip between songs =P. Or to control dvd playback. - smiley2billion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I've done the same thing on a Smartboard. It's liking have a huge Nintendo DS, which is also why I wish Blizzard would get on the ball and make some DS games.
- AllenHSmilden, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3zapa it does not. ir aiming will work fine with halo 2 as mentioned above.
- vkapadia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Hey guys, vkapadia here. i wrote the script he's using.
First off, the invalid wiimote errors are happening because you have an older version of GlovePIE. This script works best with GlovePIE version 0.24.
Also, I am constantly updating the script, you can always get the latest version at my website.
http://www.vkapadia.com/wii - agent888, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I had just bought a little bluetooth adapter to sync my computer with my cell phone. Now I'm tempted to run out and buy a wii-mote, especially after seeing the HLF2 video dugg a day or two ago.
Me and friends in high school had a blast playing with a gyro mouse, smart board, and a projector. We loaded up starcraft and stood around formulating battle strategies, like having our own war room. Ya just walk up to the board, tap on the unit, and tap where you wanted him to go....fun stuff.
It may not be as practical as a mouse and keyboard for some games but who cares if it's fun. - Broccoli, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Notice how far back he has to stand to use the ir functuion. Thtas the major problem with using the wiimote on a pc, it wont work if your to close. However if they can work that one out it will be sweet.
- WhereAmI, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I don't believe they ever trademarked it, so no.
Wiimote is an internet and all around dub, thats all. - johnhummel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That's what I was telling my wife last night. I could plug the Mac Mini into the HDTV, hook it into the network so it interfaces with the NAS, where all of the DVD's *that I own* have been ripped.
Then, using the Wiimote as a "mouse", I could point and click at what I wanted to play - the crosshairs would function just fine as "faster forward/reverse/pause/stop" and the normal "select" functions.
Sweet idea. I already have a Wii, so this just adds to the possible uses. (Only thing to worry about is how to "share" the sensor bar, but since that just blindly sends out the IR signal, the might not be a problem.) - XStatic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Dang Wiimotes are going to be hard to get...
I wonder if Nintendo will have trademark problems with Weemote? - vkapadia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Also if you have any games/other ideas that you want controlled with the Wiimote, let me know and I'll try it out.
- warezronin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Got it!
http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/games/missilegame3d - idmclaren, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is pretty cool, however the cursor only goes about 60% down the screen before the Wii-mote stops responding . I still tried out playing Solitaire with it.
Would be awesome if the nunchuk worked too. Would be fun trying out some FPS with it. - spenceman01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You could always just doublesize Winamp. You don't need a special skin.
- warezronin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Whats the game?
I need to know!!! - bitcloud, on 10/25/2007, -3/+4Damn... you beat me... I was about to make a pre-emptive comment about people who make pre-emptive comments about people who call "fake"
- wallyson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Just imagine these guys hacking the wiimote + nunchuck to play all PC games, and like what one guy said most new graphic cards output to HD so you can hook your comp. to a 50 inch HD TV and then sit on teh couch and play Counter Strike, or bio shock with the wii mote and nun chuck.
Then go back to your wii and play some zelda.
That would be awesome. - jpbleuu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2at johnhummel. perhaps its possible to slice the sensor bar cable and somehow splice it with a usb cable.
- vkapadia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Best for Winamp control is not using this, if you want to control it at a party like ArmchairAthlete mentioned. Best for that is to write a script that just emulates a button combo for each button on the wiimote, then set the global hotkeys in winamp to those button combos.
If you want a script for that, email me. - TwilightKing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hey, any chance of this ever being ported to Mac?
- crossers, on 07/11/2008, -0/+0it's cool, but there are some problems whith this!
http://www.chasr.org/
http://www.ocflex.com/ - WhereAmI, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Only when they make an emulator, and when this is all available for linux (see where I am going?).
- idmclaren, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1yay! *edited*
- pyromanpng, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I am really wanting to play fps's on the computer, Like especially halo 2. But mainly I was wondering what the response was like with the wiimote on the pc, and is it reasonably good to play halo?
- m0shen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1yay! *edited*
- warezronin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Thats exatly what I am diong once I got me Wii!
- bobotheking, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I have the sudden urge to download this driver and play Freelancer...
- 72doubledown, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2and can you imagine, the wife actually understanding a remote for once? Nobel Prize!!!
- loginname, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3Invalid Wiimote value error for lines 112, 117, 118
- zapa, on 10/12/2007, -10/+1dupe comment
- negativefx, on 10/12/2007, -12/+1I'd rather spend $60 on a refurb'd Harmony remote...oh wait, already did.
- termitenshort, on 10/12/2007, -17/+2Quite the expensive mouse but it's neat :-)
- burnt1ce85, on 10/12/2007, -26/+1If someone can hack the wii controller so it can be integrated well with the xbox 360 or ps3, then the wii will be doomed. Ofcourse it wouldnt be commercially available but i can imagine microsoft or sony would not try to interfere with the hacker/mod community to sell it or give the software hack for free.
