  • alysure, on 07/24/2008, -1/+2It's nice to see someone acknowledge the sexism that is so prevalent in the gaming industry, and of course, the mass media in general.

    Not only are women totally objectified in games, but they also portrays a completely unrealistic picture of the female anatomy to both men and women.

    It should be important to mention that video games are generally played by youth or adolescents, and this could lead to perceptions that are unhealthy for both genders. Women wanting huge breasts that would probably lead to back problems, and men thinking that the ideal woman is supposed to have two gigantic bubbles on their chest or they are not attractive.

    Anyways, that rant aside, it is nice to see someone acknowledge that with some dry wit and humour.

    Sexism hurts everyone !

        That's purely the my issue with it though. If people are actively questioning the media they are being fed then I really don't care. The problem is that most people (youth especially I would contend) don't question their media sources.

        I mean I totally get that games aren't supposed to be realistic of course, but as you said.. it's important that people realize that.

        I won't vastly overgeneralize, but that's just my viewpoint. I find video games to be much too gender biased in general. Then again, I guess girls don't play video games. Just like they don't exist on the internet and such :)

        I would also say that male body image is highly unrealistic in games too, but given that it isn't the topic of the article I didn't really touch on it.
