- joehobbes, on 10/10/2007, -0/+33Prince of Persia Classic is what a remake SHOULD be like. Too bad there hasn't been much talk about it on XBLA.
Super Mario All-Stars is definitely one of the best remakes/compilations/pack-ins of all time. Now if they would port it to the DS! :)
Also, lets see if we can continue the trend with some of these:
http://www.racketboy.com/retro/2006/04/classic-franchises-that-actually-need.html
Also add in Guardian Heroes, the 2D Sonic games, and Comix Zone for good measure :) - freakgd, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12dugg for resident evil.
- ursername180, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12Pokemon FireRed/LeafGreen
Legend Of Zelda Four Swords/Link To The Past
Were better than some of those in my opinion. - honeymustardn, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11Conker Live and Reloaded? Are you freakin' kidding me?
- NeoCortex, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Her sister that I've always pictured having that 3-way with.
- JaffaC, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Does Ninja Gaiden not count?
- goteki45, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Who the hell is Laura Croft? :P
- imikedaman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8I agree with those two choices, but Conker: Live and Reloaded was much worse than the original N64 game... it had a lot of annoying bugs and apparently was missing a few parts from the original. Also, the GBA Kirby game is pretty much the exact same game but you miss out on a LOT of screen real estate compared to the NES version.
I'm just glad Metroid: Zero Mission made the cut. That was one hell of a remake. - BLyn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8seems like more of a sequel than a remake.
- SamKellett, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7No Sid Meier's Pirates! No Digg.
- windy5883, on 10/10/2007, -5/+1110. Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland (GBA)
9. Conker: Live & Reloaded (Xbox)
8. Super Mario All-Stars (SNES)
7. Star Fox 64
6. Prince of Persia Classic (Xbox 360)
5. Tomb Raider Anniversary (PS2)
4. Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes (GameCube)
3. Metroid Zero Mission (GBA)
2. Final Fantasy III (DS)
1. Resident Evil (Gamecube) - kufu91, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6link to the past (gba) was a port with an experimental game tacked on, not a remake
- grumbel, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7True, but its a completly seperate game and as nothing to do with a Link to the Past, except being a Zelda game.
- Downtime, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Wow this site's article layout is an exact rip-off of IGN's.
- posure, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5The original was amazing (my fav game of all time). The remake sucked ass. They removed some parts of the single player and they completely ditched the original multiplayer modes (which were awesome and much better than the ones that they added imo). Back in the day, we played as much Conker as Goldeneye and Smash Bros (beach mode and capture the flag ftw). On the plus side, the graphics in the remake were great.
- Irvulous, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Super Mario All-Stars is one of the most epic cartridges ever created. Ever single Mario Bros. game up to that point redone in gorgeous 16-bit. And bringing the REAL Super Mario Bros. 2 to the US as The Lost Levels, by far the most challenging Mario platformer.
- acdcfanbill, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5here's a mirror since it was getting slow.

page2: http://bayimg.com/laFBeAABi - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6Four swords is not a Link to the Past remake...
- adenansu, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6buried, simply because i'm sick and tired of seeing "the top 10 ______" lists all the damn time
- feedle, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4No digg for missing Tempest 2000/X3. Tempest 2000 was the (more or less) only reason to get a Jaguar.
- satx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4No Dragon Quest games?
- bagboyrebel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3umm.. what? Prime was out before zero mission and was it's own game in the series.
- wafflesomd, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Here's a guy that when he runs, he goes faster!
- Fhwqhgads, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3the original one for gameboy? uhh, no he didnt. all he could do was swallow and spit.
uhh... that last part sounded a bit wrong lol - ph3rny, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3How about Pokemon Red/Blue/Green/Yellow ( http://www.x-entertainment.com/pics/game1.jpg )
to Pokemon Firered and Leafgreen ( http://www.psypokes.com/lgfr/images/islands4d.png ) ? - NewPunk, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Super Mario All-Stars should be ported to the Wii virtual console... but Nintendo will never do it since they can sell all the games separately... same reason they won't port it on the DS.
- moya, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4pretty sure a remake is when you make the same game again, not sequels
- CornStarch, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Conkers was lame and was more of a regraphicfacation than a remaking, and I'd take Prince of Persia: Sands of Time over the old one any day. This guy has some unique taste, trying too hard to be different maybe.
- tjdoom, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2That wasn't so much a remake as it was a greatly-improved-port.
- sauvaget, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2the absent accent bothered me too. but i hate the new music even more.
the original soundtrack was excellent. - Thorpe, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I am very much glad Tomb Raider: Anniversary is there. Certainly one of the more recent games worth playing on PlayStation 2.
- blatantninja, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1QfG1 was a gret remake, they did a lot of great remakes.
The best remake though, IMO, is Ultima V, done as an open source project running the Dungeon Siege Engine, www.u5lazrus.com - makis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1where is ultimate ghost'n goblins?
- StarExtreme, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Counter-Strike: Source?
- Medusausi, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Yay for Resident Evil and Tomb Raider Anniversary.
- R3Dirkulous, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1hahah wow me too, so many good times with the n64..man with the golden gun 4 player FTW
- abucada, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I was totally thinking Ninja Gaiden #1, and it was shunned from the list...
- blahtastic, on 10/10/2007, -5/+6They're on the same cart, so you can't really have one without the other..
- rootstyle, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Because Super Mario 64 DS was a port, not a remake...
- gazotem, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Ninja Gaiden...Ninja Gaiden Black...Ninja Gaiden Black?
- allisonaxe, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1...except its not a remake.
- Elranzer, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1In addition to the list, some more good remakes:
Ninja Gaiden series (NES) -> Ninja Gaiden Trilogy (SNES) [Xbox's Ninja Gaiden (Black) was not a remake, it was a new game.]
Pokemon Blue / Red (GB) -> LeafGreen / FireRed (GBA) [Note: Blue was actually Green in Japan]
Final Fantasy 1&2 (NES) -> Final Fantasy Origins (Wonderswan/PlayStation/GBA)
Star Fox 2 (SNES, unreleased) -> Star Fox Assault (DS) [Note: Completed ROM of SF2 is available to compare.]
Trauma Center (DS) -> Trauma Center: Second Opinion (Wii)
Donkey Kong (Arcade) -> Donkey Kong '94 (GB)
River City Ransom (NES) -> River City Ransom Ex (GBA)
Guardian Heroes (Saturn) -> Guardian Heroes Advance (GBA)
Mario Bros (Arcade) -> 2P Battle Mode in Super Mario Bros 3 (NES)
...and perhaps the most overlooked remake, though the games themselves are highly regarded...
Legend of Zelda (NES) -> Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (SNES) -> Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64)
Also:
Legend of Zelda: Four Swords (GBA) -> Four Swords Adventure (GC) -> Minish Cap (GBA)
[Note: These are storyline reboots of each other] - penhead, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1What, no Wolfenstein???
- bagboyrebel, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1what's your definition of a remake? I'm pretty sure sands of time was a completely new game in the series, not a remake.
- dawg098, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Shadows of the empire should be remade for the xbox 360.
- patch6, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Pretty sure it can be emulated on both consoles already.
- jamspt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I guess a lot of people don't remember the first two wolfenstein games.
They were top down adventure games where you had to avoiid nazis and save prisoners.
Good call. - rootstyle, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Its a list of sequels called remakes (Starfox 64) , and bad remakes (MGS)... Notably FF3 for NDS was the most over hyped disappointing remake ever, not ruined like MGS, but def. not #2 best remake of all time. As usual, some fanboys mediocre top10 list of something digged up to the frontpage.
- jamspt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Quest for Glory 1: So you want to be a hero?
If you've played both versions - you'll know what I mean.
Though honestly, that game came out when Sierra was king. When Kings Quest still mattered, and we didn't have all of these new fangled graphics. - nephilimx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0and the orginal sin sucked, and flopped
