3) Beyond The Beyond (PSX)
It wasn't bad for what it was. Ridiculously long and drawn out maybe. It wasn't any worse then FF 8 or 10/10-2. Which were rather bad but still not THAT bad. - mobiusclimber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i agree that it was about as bad as final fantasy 8 (tho without the fmvs and sparklyness to keep one's interest, not to mention a hot chick w/ a whip), and certainly no worse than ff x-2, but final fantasy x?! that game was fun and had a decent story to it. beyond the beyond was pretty tedious. or maybe i'm just too dumb, cuz all i remember from that game was wandering around trying to figure out where i'm supposed to go next and getting my ass handed to me every third step. the characters weren't terribly engaging nor was the plot terribly engaging. i could tell you what happened in phantasy star ii, breath of fire ii or wild arms. i can't for the life of me remember what happened in beyond the beyond. but maybe that's more because i only played it for about twenty hours if that. but this is a purely subjective list. i think i might have started to have less time and less patiences by the time i got beyond the beyond. whereas i would have actually played it a lot further if i was still a teen, i gave up on it because after working all day, i just couldn't be bothered to slog through it. plus, i'd just gotten suikoden. funny, since there's a veiled swipe at beyond the beyond in a bit of dialogue in that game. (something along the lines of "what's beyond the beyond?" "nothing... nothing but boredom." or some such.)
you know i could have done a list of twenty or more of the worst rpgs i've ever played. and still wouldn't get even all of the ones i should. never had an n64, for instance. =p- WickedDrag0oN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well the reason I looped FF 10 in with 8 and 10-2 was just for the fact that it really stepped out of the Final Fantasy Series and didn't go along with the normal toon feel. Other than that it might have been a good game if it had shed the Final Fantasy name. I guess I'm just to much of a FF traditionalist.
- mobiusclimber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i think the final fantasy series has been getting progressively further and further away from the "normal toon feel" as you put it, and i think that's partly just b/c the technology is getting better. there are still chocobos tho, which i always thought contributed to the "toon" look and feel. don't remember about moogles tho. *shrugs* i think ff12 has really shied away from the normal ff feel... so does 11 (which i haven't played). but i'm not too worried about all that. i play them for the story mostly, and then the gameplay and feel of the game. it's one reason i didn't like 8 so much. parts of the story were rediculous but that could have been overlooked w/ compelling gameplay. but the drawing spell system sucked, as did the lack of equipment, imo.
- Sirking, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I disagree with number two. Lagoon was a great game, and it brings back many memories of me and my dad playing it together (I sucked so he played, I mostly watched). Call me crazy, but there's my two cents.
- mobiusclimber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i've had people tell me that saga frontier is their favorite rpg. b/c it's the first one they played. i think part of our feelings towards games comes from external things, like you and your dad bonding over the game. granted i DID enjoy lagoon to a certain extent, enough to complete the game at least. but i also felt that it was a seriously flawed game, that sucked more than it entertained. i'm the kind of person (or was anyway) that would play a game to completion even if i didn't enjoy it.
