- vic42482, on 11/17/2008, -3/+105I don't know what's worse. The fact that people die from WoW or that there are virtual funerals held inside the game.
- PatrickFlorida, on 11/18/2008, -0/+78272 hours as Engineer on TF2. I should have an engineering degree by now!
- Doomsan, on 11/18/2008, -0/+53Goldeneye + Mario Kart 64 = Summer of '97
- ProfessorLX, on 11/17/2008, -10/+56the group of guys that ambushed the funeral were my ***** favorite.. take that you ***** losers.
- Kenelm, on 11/17/2008, -0/+41I play Diablo, StarCraft, Halo, and WoW.
Maybe I should drop one. - Ymeg, on 11/18/2008, -1/+36As of Nov-18-08:

- vinceislegend, on 11/18/2008, -0/+28Call me crazy, but Rock Band still owns my life.
Yeah, I know, play a real instrument. - Ivallios, on 11/17/2008, -5/+30Numbers of hours playing wotlc.... none. I quit that soul sucking wow game forever.
- jwk4heels, on 11/18/2008, -5/+27I used to play WoW. Quitting was the best thing I ever did. My advice: If you play, get out of it now while you still can, while you haven't started all the new raids that came with WotLK. Seriously, give your character away, uninstall it, and break the discs. You'll thank me later.
- jaymulder, on 11/18/2008, -2/+23No one ever quits, they just take extended breaks.
- roctimo, on 11/18/2008, -0/+18Two of the best games ever conceived. Those games are great examples of how much fun it is to play with your friends.
- fumar, on 11/18/2008, -0/+17SC isn't that addictive unless you are into ladders and competition.
TF2 is addictive as ***** though. I got addicted to it for a while. For me it was a combination of an all-talk server + gaming community + custom mod with leveling + stats = addiction. - inactive, on 11/18/2008, -2/+18Currently, Fallout 3 is zapping away my hours...it's a nightmare.
I could be playing all of Duty for god's sake. - inactive, on 11/18/2008, -0/+15TF2 ,you raped my GPA.
- eraser34, on 11/18/2008, -3/+16People with low will power get addictions. I played Cs competitivly for 4 years, and as soon as high scool was over, and I moved out with my fiance and played only casually. Everything is addictive if you let it be addictive.
Another example, I recently started play WoW. I never played before in my life, due to hating the community everyone always talked about. But here I am, 3 years or so after its launch, and I finally started, yet I cannot even play more than a few hours, because I just some so many other things that I could be doing.
Games are fun time spenders, and hobbies, but they never turn to addiction unless you let them! - mikbunn, on 11/17/2008, -0/+13I don't think parents should beat their kids, but I'd definitely offer to do it for them.
- lastmaster, on 11/18/2008, -0/+11I don't even know why i am writing this post, when i could be playing fallout 3.
- Duncast, on 11/18/2008, -0/+11The civ franchise and football/fifa mangers should have a mention here.
- dborgir, on 11/18/2008, -1/+10dugg for admitting you have a problem. It's the first step.
- badnewsblair, on 11/18/2008, -0/+9I played on an addicted level for the first year. I've worked out a nice balance now. Sure, I play a little more now since the new expansion came out, but I still don't play anywhere near as much as I used to (I can quit any time, I swear).
People that quit WoW and say it is the best thing they've ever done for themselves will inevitably get addicted to another game. Its not the game that is the problem, its your view toward it. - Halsfield, on 11/18/2008, -0/+9fallout 3 is great. i hear a lot of people complaining because they think it doesnt fit with fallout 1+2's style but i really think it did a great job of capturing the world of DC post-nuke .
- blest, on 11/18/2008, -0/+8I think that instead of just WOW, no.1 one should be MMORPGs in general. I have been playing Guild Wars for the better part of three years now, and I still love it
- Brad324, on 11/18/2008, -0/+8man, those were some long nights... you remember when people would all bitch at the guy who tried to play as oddjob? Or the bastard who would hog the body armor.
- JParsons4, on 11/18/2008, -0/+8Is anyone else addicted to Peggle Deluxe?
- PiRATE7, on 11/18/2008, -0/+8yes, but I'll never admit it
- machocheese34, on 11/18/2008, -2/+9Scatman, holy ***** that takes me back.
- Navicerts, on 11/18/2008, -0/+7Usually the people that attack "the subculture" the most are people that resent games like WoW because of their own addiction or the addiction of a loved one. This is why they have a one sided view of things, no amount of explanation will change that. I think they are wrong to categorize a large group of people based off a few but I can understand why they do it.
- bigteebo, on 11/18/2008, -0/+7I'm addicted to fallout 3 as well. 13 hours in.
- brstilson, on 11/18/2008, -0/+7I played Guild Wars for a while. Very easy game to walk away from in my case. I think partly it's because of the extremely low level cap. Once I hit level 20, I couldn't care less. Plus, no monthly fee helps too.
WoW I found is just much more immersing than GW. - remotehuman, on 11/18/2008, -0/+7i missed work today :(
- MoonDogAFO, on 11/18/2008, -0/+6Yea, my thoughts too.
EVE Online's player base is maybe too small for people to truly understand the soul-sucking properties that it possesses. Do you have more than one account? Do you often ask how much ISK that purchase will cost? Do you spend countless hours tweaking ship loadouts to achieve an extra 5% resistance on a certain damage type?
You get my drift :) - hypnotoad32, on 11/18/2008, -0/+6...or four. Ok, maybe three.
- elitebmo, on 11/18/2008, -0/+6Oh it does.... fond fond memorys of jaws with teh golden gun in the temple.
Brings a tear to the eye. - AlJensen, on 11/17/2008, -2/+8Wow for some weird reason I feel like finding that Halo kid, and shoving that controller up his ass, and then go into the kitchen and backhand his mom (and then steal some milk.......cookies if they have some)
- NuclearFriend, on 11/18/2008, -0/+5That's like a full time jobs worth. :p
- Elranzer, on 11/18/2008, -1/+6List + MrBabyMan = digg it or you'll lose your account
- xGeneric, on 11/18/2008, -0/+5Indeed. Also...
Perfect Dark = Summer of 00' - h37s3m, on 11/18/2008, -0/+5or pick up 2
- rpapi100, on 11/18/2008, -0/+5I agree that pretty much every game blizzard made is pretty addictive, having had my own encounter with Diablo II (was a top 25 Hardcore ladder player) and StarCraft, I voluntarily avoided WOW.
Other games deserve honorable mentions: Peggle, Civilization, SimCity, The Sims as well as Jedi Knight 2 (believe me nothing trumps this game in terms of online play, customized avatar + lightsaber-wielding + duel mode).
Some gaming franchise are more impervious to this I guess because they take so much time to level, like KOTOR, Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter night, Oblivion, D&D based games mostly or have such an emotional or unique storyline that replay value is lower, like Final Fantasy (of old, not familiar with newer iterations), Half-Life, Deux Ex, etc.
Over the years my personnal rule has been:
- play when you have time (summer)
- favor single player games
- don't pay more money after purchase of disk
- to install a game, uninstall one already there (keeping save files of course)
- finish thoroughly games you play as do prevent revisiting them
- shop and read revues to maximize your gaming time
- replay only the best and keep your standards high - coyote1284, on 11/18/2008, -0/+5"jaws with teh golden gun in the temple"
Clue: 007 Edition - NuclearFriend, on 11/18/2008, -0/+5STOP TRYING TO GET US ADDICTED YOU SOUL SUCKING SOB
- Brad324, on 11/18/2008, -0/+5Dude, just think about how much stronger everyone else is getting than you. You dont want to be a NOOB do you? Get back on the game, man. You belong with us.
- lastmaster, on 11/18/2008, -0/+5it doesn't fit with 1 & 2, but it is still awesome.
- Inverno, on 11/18/2008, -0/+4I'm with you Cougar.
- inactive, on 11/18/2008, -1/+580 HOURS OF TF2 PAST 2 WEEKS FOR ME WTF DAVID
