The Real Life S.T.A.L.K.E.R. [PICS]
englishrussia.com — These guys play popular S.T.A.L.K.E.R. video game for real. They on purpose go to the Chernobyl area of the nuclear disaster explosion site dress in Stalker themed cloths and play, even involving armored vehicles and real guns.

And from what I've read on the stalkerfiles.com forums, is that they are no where near the reactors, due to high military presence and tour groups.
And those aren't real guns, dammit. It's airsoft! - prleet, on 05/30/2008, -0/+1there are some really great great photos..!!!!!
- ani625, on 05/29/2008, -4/+35This is what a nuclear disaster can do to people..
- wontstoptalking, on 05/30/2008, -6/+4I thought it made them mutants with superhuman abilities and deformities?
- dizavin, on 05/30/2008, -1/+1no, it makes modern Japanese culture.
anime should be a testament to why we should never drop nuclear bombs on people.
- dizavin, on 05/30/2008, -1/+1no, it makes modern Japanese culture.
- ChinezePanda, on 05/30/2008, -1/+2You mean it grows trees somewhere in some guys backyard in New England?

- borninda818, on 05/29/2008, -6/+180Stunning pictures, Definitely worth the cancer.
- wontstoptalking, on 05/30/2008, -7/+11-What kind of cancer do you have?
-SUP3R C4NC3R! - mrgodai, on 05/30/2008, -1/+8or worth the mutation, maybe they'll turn into super heroes, or villains.
- mark076h, on 05/30/2008, -0/+15just need to get the right stalker suit and not worry about cancer
- Thater, on 05/30/2008, -0/+14I recommend the SEVA suit and a droplet artifact. eliminates 100% radiation but the droplet does -18 endurance which is fine if you have a couple of Moonlight artifacts.
- Utope, on 05/31/2008, -0/+1i agree, that's probably your best bet to block out radiation, other wise just stalk up on anti rad and get an exoskeleton. (there is a SEVA suit in the wild territory in a building by the train station, go in through the roof...) woot STALKER FTW!
- Thater, on 05/30/2008, -0/+14I recommend the SEVA suit and a droplet artifact. eliminates 100% radiation but the droplet does -18 endurance which is fine if you have a couple of Moonlight artifacts.
- ChileanGoD, on 05/30/2008, -1/+2...and the sterilization.
- shawnanigans, on 05/30/2008, -0/+15If you play are LARPing in Chernoble probably won't make a big difference.
- ericrous, on 05/30/2008, -0/+7Superheroes my ass! I had a cousin that got bit by a radioactive spider and all he got was radiation poisoning and a bunch of tumors. Comic books are so full of *****.
- wontstoptalking, on 05/30/2008, -7/+11-What kind of cancer do you have?
- mark076h, on 05/29/2008, -1/+39i don't think they are near the real site, does anyone have more info on this? that last picture is definitely not real but with the reactor photo-shoped in.
- cheeseefungu, on 05/30/2008, -0/+3yeah you can tell, i thought it was real for a second but noticed it was really blurry in the chimneys
- Eldorian, on 05/30/2008, -2/+19Can you tell by the pixels and because you've seen a lot of photoshops in your lifetime?
- misterS, on 05/30/2008, -0/+2I'd say he can tell because he's seen a lot of real pictures of the reactor building - and it's not standing in a field of grass.
Compare with this picture:
http://www-carmin.cea.fr/var/plain/storage/origina ...- AL7AIR, on 05/30/2008, -0/+1Even though there are grassy patches in-between the pavement, there is a building missing to the right of the main reactor housing > http://www.panoramio.com/photo/1270315
- misterS, on 05/30/2008, -0/+2I'd say he can tell because he's seen a lot of real pictures of the reactor building - and it's not standing in a field of grass.
- tmbrwolf19, on 05/30/2008, -0/+14Actually can take tours of Prypiat and get pretty close to the reactor itself. Radiation isn't really spread evenly over the area so some areas are safer then others and for the most part only the Chernobyl power station itself is horrible unsafe. Unless you are in there everyday, you probably aren't going to receive a high enough dose to kill you or cause any damage.
- werries, on 05/30/2008, -2/+1"probably" being the key word there. we're still not entirely sure on what small doses can really do. its definitely not good for you in any way.
- dvicklund, on 05/30/2008, -0/+1Well these guys were probably there or at least around there for some extended period of time.
- DenRoedeBaron, on 05/30/2008, -0/+1If it's in Chernobyl, why the hell are they wearing German and Danish camouflage?
- rastakid, on 05/30/2008, -1/+1There are even tours through the city of Chernobyl. A couple of years ago there was this stunning story about a motor cyclist called Elena who would ride through the disaster-stricken zone. A mirror is here: http://vincent.vanscherpenseel.nl/chernobyl/page2. ...
- saulimus, on 05/30/2008, -0/+3That story was later found out to be false.
- jonr1, on 05/30/2008, -0/+1Yes, I would say it is a photoshop. Google maps shows that the environment for that shot is all wrong.
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=C ...
The reactor is not on a hill, there should be numerous abandoned vehicles, and that area is paved. - jtbell04, on 05/30/2008, -0/+1The reactor just plunked in there is among the worst shoops ever. Although, there are areas of Pripyat MUCH more radioactive (like the red forest) than the area immediately surrounding the reactor.
- Angelix, on 05/29/2008, -10/+3The photos are fake but look really cool though.
- themastersb, on 05/30/2008, -0/+6If by fake you mean the added in HDR effects.....
- DurtyJ, on 05/30/2008, -0/+6HOLY *****! Do you mean to tell me that there really wasn't a motion blur covering the entire area that they were playing in!?!?
- JusticeFriend, on 05/30/2008, -0/+1Dunno why are you being buried.
These photos are not taken in Chernobyl area.... except the last, who are photoshoped.
Take a look:

- Omek, on 05/29/2008, -1/+13kinda reminds me of Fallout...
- ortucis, on 05/30/2008, -6/+1***** Fallout.
- somedirtbag, on 05/30/2008, -1/+3***** yourself.
- ortucis, on 05/30/2008, -1/+1I would if I could. For now, ***** Fallout. Lameass game..
- somedirtbag, on 05/30/2008, -1/+3***** yourself.
- MasterGrief, on 05/30/2008, -1/+3I... don't want to set the world... on... fire....
- ortucis, on 05/30/2008, -6/+1***** Fallout.
- MartinR, on 05/29/2008, -5/+11I never even got through the whole game.
- mark076h, on 05/30/2008, -1/+11because your not a real STALKER
- PullingTeeth, on 05/30/2008, -0/+13The side missions became ridiculously repetitive after awhile, but the main story line was still pretty cool. They made some nice scary scenarios in the reactors.
- Lunarbunny, on 05/30/2008, -0/+3I played through a second time to make up for that.
- Dradis, on 05/29/2008, -19/+24Alright, the game wasn't THAT good.
- ortucis, on 05/30/2008, -0/+11Yes it was. Ignore the retarded side quests and enjoy the freaky creatures and the abandoned world. No other game comes close.
- Dradis, on 05/30/2008, -1/+5Yeah, it was fun. Just not fun enough to make me get cancer so I can re-enact it.
- spawnfree, on 05/30/2008, -0/+6just played through it again with the latest patch and the oblivion lost mod. Fantastic.
if you want to lose a few days then do it! - daggah, on 05/30/2008, -0/+1In fact, I thought it was pretty damn terrible.
- ortucis, on 05/30/2008, -0/+11Yes it was. Ignore the retarded side quests and enjoy the freaky creatures and the abandoned world. No other game comes close.
- NGliam, on 05/29/2008, -8/+3I would pay to watch grown men playing video games for real (
- NGliam, on 05/30/2008, -3/+2Wow that comment messed up >_> the page crashed when I tried posting it. Nvm, bury keke
- BoonTobias, on 05/30/2008, -0/+5give me $20, i'll play cod for another hour
- BlackKnight6, on 05/30/2008, -0/+3He said for real, so you have to goto some middle eastern country and start shooting people...oh wait.
- Codename46, on 05/29/2008, -19/+33They can't be civilians. Civilian ownership of real firearms is essentially outlawed in Russia. Assuming the picture of the machine gun belt was real, they would HAVE to be military to have that kind of weaponry.
They can't be real military either. From the pics it looks like they were just screwing around, and I don't think the Russian military has their troops wearing S.T.A.L.K.E.R buttons on their uniforms. Speaking of which, their uniforms are all different and not standardized.
Only possibility is fake pics, and the guns are airsoft, not real guns. Buried of inaccuracy.- rockinthekeys, on 05/30/2008, -1/+9Then how do you explain the APCs?
- bencefeher, on 05/30/2008, -0/+7Those APCs are pretty bad-ass. I wonder how they managed to pull that off.
- sovietninja, on 05/30/2008, -0/+6Probably real military vehicles used in movies and etc as props.
- Kennerk, on 05/30/2008, -0/+7if you read the April issue of auto trader i believe it is, theres an article about a guy that had the craving to buy a tank. his only problem: getting it home, since he was already in the czech republic. after a few days, he found somewhere that would sell it to him straight up. it was pretty kickass
- ambion, on 05/30/2008, -0/+2That one APC looks like a BTR-60. Those were in production from 1959 to 1963. They are still in use around the world, but seldom used for carrying personnel.
This bunch probably bought the APC for fun. - KingFog, on 06/28/2008, -0/+0Look back at the ammo belt, under it are two silver pipes. Those are BB pellet feeds. Also, the photo of pellets plus bullet cases in the original set is a big clue. These guys are rich civvys with enough money to buy good airsoft guns
And the APCs? Those are old... I think 1960's time... You can buy those now. A number of collectors own them. (You did know that there are civilians who own tanks, APCs and Armoured Cars right?)
- bencefeher, on 05/30/2008, -0/+7Those APCs are pretty bad-ass. I wonder how they managed to pull that off.
- Namco, on 05/30/2008, -0/+29They're airsoft. They talked about this on GFW Radio yesterday.
- mark076h, on 05/30/2008, -8/+3all of this was in the zone, its very real
- ohmysac, on 05/30/2008, -1/+84Just wanted to point out that Chernobyl isn't in Russia.
- Ortheos, on 05/30/2008, -1/+5Indeed. It is in Ukraine. However, it is in eastern ukraine, which is composed of 90% russian population.
- ohmysac, on 05/31/2008, -0/+1Thanks for that bit of information. But what does it have to do with Chernobyl not being in Russia?
- Ortheos, on 05/30/2008, -1/+5Indeed. It is in Ukraine. However, it is in eastern ukraine, which is composed of 90% russian population.
- sovietninja, on 05/30/2008, -0/+23Proof that its airsoft:
http://englishrussia.com/images/real_stalker/27.jp ...
those are biodegradable airsoft bbs.- phqu88, on 05/30/2008, -0/+4Or there potassium iodide tablets...thats what im going to go with.
- linuxpenguin, on 05/30/2008, -1/+2Wimps. . . playing with Airsoft instead of real guns.
- cheeseefungu, on 05/30/2008, -0/+3You can see a clear plastic line going through the trees in pic number one that looks like a no crossing line
- DroppedGT, on 05/30/2008, -0/+6"Its elementary my dear Watson."
- willskillz, on 05/30/2008, -0/+8Looks like they're wearing German bdus. Looks like fun...where can I sign up?!!
- zyklon, on 05/30/2008, -0/+3Called Flektarn.
- willskillz, on 05/30/2008, -0/+1Mea culpa.
- zyklon, on 05/30/2008, -0/+3Called Flektarn.
- brundlefly76, on 05/30/2008, -0/+1Yeah I dont understand how you 'play' a game with 'real' guns -?
- rockinthekeys, on 05/30/2008, -1/+9Then how do you explain the APCs?
- nico623, on 05/29/2008, -2/+5I'd love to see the reaction of passer-by'ers as they do this...
- pendrachken, on 05/30/2008, -0/+11If it was real ( may or may not be ) how many people do you think just "pass by" the Chernobyl disaster site?
- cheeseefungu, on 05/30/2008, -0/+3Not much?
- pendrachken, on 05/30/2008, -0/+11If it was real ( may or may not be ) how many people do you think just "pass by" the Chernobyl disaster site?
- wontstoptalking, on 05/30/2008, -8/+4I was expecting Michael Jackson.
- UltramegaOK, on 05/30/2008, -6/+41In Soviet Russia real life stalks you!
- Nhmarine, on 05/30/2008, -4/+21cool, do they kill each other for real too?
- cheeseefungu, on 05/30/2008, -1/+10If that machine gun belt was real, yes
- domokunt, on 05/30/2008, -0/+3I think its real name is LARPing. Live action role play.
- ibone, on 05/30/2008, -9/+3How many times will this dupe make the front page in our lifetimes? Dupe, Buried.
- grimward, on 05/30/2008, -0/+4You're doing it wrong.. here's how you do it:
Mr submitter, I'm detective Grimward with the Old Police *flashes badge* I'm afraid I'll have to ask you
to come downtown with me to answer a few questions about your inability to check for dupes
before submitting your article.
Old Police: keeping your digg dupe free since yesterday. (because otherwise. it would be OLD!) - mark076h, on 05/30/2008, -0/+3has this been on the front page before?
- DurtyJ, on 05/30/2008, -0/+3Can you please link me to the original? Because I can't seem to find this story on digg anywhere. If you do, I will undigg your comment, then digg your comment followed by undigging this story and digging the original story, in that order.
- Kennerk, on 05/30/2008, -0/+1at least he's better than MrBabyMan...
- grimward, on 05/30/2008, -0/+4You're doing it wrong.. here's how you do it:
- coheedcollapse, on 05/30/2008, -4/+6I would seriously kill to be able to take photos at Chernobyl. That's my dream - to get there and be able to explore as I wish.
- hellosaysme, on 05/30/2008, -0/+6you do know that you can now get tours? You might want to look into that.
- skav, on 05/30/2008, -0/+6Although your plan of killing may exempt you from being able to tour Chernobyl, and instead give you a free pass to tour real life Russian prison.
- coheedcollapse, on 05/30/2008, -0/+1Of course I knew that. I also know that people are pretty much allowed in and out of the area as long as they go through checkpoints. The problem is that I'm separated from it by 5,000 miles and an ocean. I'm a poor freelance photographer - I'd need to scrape up a lot of money to get over there.
I'll get there eventually, I'm just saying it'd be awesome.- Patori, on 05/30/2008, -1/+2on a side note, coheed and cambria is an excellent band.
- Dwebtron, on 05/30/2008, -1/+2if by excellent you actually mean awful, then yes. I agree.
- ccalabro, on 05/30/2008, -1/+1http://www.kiddofspeed.com/

- ThePenrod, on 05/30/2008, -1/+45WHEN COS-PLAYING STARTS GETTING REAL!!!
- seastobble, on 05/30/2008, -8/+2right next to chernobyl? that's just ***** dumb.
- Kennerk, on 05/30/2008, -0/+2but sounds fun!!
- JensenSteve, on 05/30/2008, -5/+6It will be even cooler when they get cancer and die.
- luckyguy2000, on 05/30/2008, -1/+2you dont get cancer when youre in chernobyl area. scientists even go into the sarcophagus. yeah, there is radiation, yeah there are some dangerous spots, but those are marked. in the reactors cooling water are plenty of fishes healthy and alive. humans and animals are more resistant against radiation as ppl thought in 1986
- Hanker, on 05/30/2008, -2/+1three-eyed fishes you mean
- luckyguy2000, on 05/30/2008, -1/+2you dont get cancer when youre in chernobyl area. scientists even go into the sarcophagus. yeah, there is radiation, yeah there are some dangerous spots, but those are marked. in the reactors cooling water are plenty of fishes healthy and alive. humans and animals are more resistant against radiation as ppl thought in 1986

- luckyguy2000, on 05/30/2008, -0/+1and it probably is. i think its in germany, since the guys wear german military stuff. i really think they are just german soldiers having fun.
- Maozeng93, on 05/30/2008, -11/+0Great photos

- tenspeedogbb, on 05/30/2008, -0/+6Not the real site, but still sounds like fun!
- Maksx, on 05/30/2008, -2/+3well i guess with the third arm they may develop they shoot a gun and throw a grenade at the same time
- DroppedGT, on 05/30/2008, -1/+2I'm glad they had the chance to do this before the 500,000 year half life was up on the radiation contamination... then it wouldn't be as cool.
- CharlesP2009, on 05/30/2008, -1/+3Server is already choking.
- lazlonger, on 05/30/2008, -1/+2is this just another russki scam? pannty fukkers. we will win this feckin' code war!
- IndigoMoss, on 05/30/2008, -0/+5That's pretty awesome. Definitively one of the best games of 07', especially after to put some awesome mods into it. I haven't been as scared playing a video as I had when the first invisible mutant jumped out at me in the tunnels. I totally forgot what it's name was though. One thing to make it a lot more atmospheric and scary is to add the mod that makes the weather and stuff more realistic. You can barely see anything at night and it gets intense.
- mark076h, on 05/30/2008, -0/+5have you seen the tech videos for CLEAR SKY? it looks amazing
- duel007, on 05/30/2008, -0/+1Ohmygod
i cant wait for Clear Sky.
especially after STALKER made my inner gamer cream itself.

- mhender, on 05/30/2008, -1/+5" They on purpose go to the Chernobyl area of the nuclear disaster explosion site dress in Stalker themed cloths and play, even involving armored vehicles and real guns."
Was the 'on purpose' necessary? Can someone accidentally visit a nuclear disaster explosion site dressed in the proper attire?- Bender1001, on 05/30/2008, -0/+1I'm sure it's a daily occurrence for people in that part of the world, casual evening walk and bam you're at Chernobyl...
Anyway, cool pics, makes me want to start playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R again :D.

- mark076h, on 05/30/2008, -0/+9i submitted a fascinating photo tour of chernobyl and pripyat i found today http://digg.com/general_sciences/Another_Fascinati ...
- Stepoo, on 05/30/2008, -3/+0Whats the point of running around a nuclear explosion site and not getting to shoot anything?
They should've used paintball guns. - Chrispyc1211, on 05/30/2008, -1/+8What makes them think the guns are real? They're airsoft guns. All the wood on the various guns' stocks, hand guards, etc. are made of fake wood, and one picture even shows the BBs on the ground next to old 7.62mm rounds.
I mean, they're great pics, but whoever was writing this up had no idea what the pictures were of.- natastna2, on 05/30/2008, -0/+1There is a picture of live ammunition.
- destron, on 05/30/2008, -1/+2Heard about this on the GFW podcast. Cool *****.

- Tyrghast, on 05/30/2008, -0/+3Oh god the excessive photoshopping (HDR shots or whatever the hell these are) made my stomach churn...
- spacerobot, on 05/30/2008, -5/+3How do they "play" with real guns? Do they just point the guns at each other and say "bang!"?
I can see it now:
guy 1: Bang! Got ya!
guy 2: Nuh uh! you missed!
guy 1: did not!
and so on.
Were they reinacting scenes from the game or something?
If they did use real guns, i don't see how it could be any fun. Could have at least used airsoft or paint ball guns.- linuxpenguin, on 05/30/2008, -0/+1I think they're using Airsoft if anything. I don't think they'd have any ammo in the guns if they were real - that might be kinda dangerous. Although I'm not sure these aren't photoshopped in the first place.
- stargatesteve, on 05/30/2008, -0/+1paintball. see the dude with the "blood" sploches. it's paint.

haunting, if not a bit drawn out. - stargatesteve, on 05/30/2008, -0/+2both the movie and the game are actually based on the book "Roadside Picnic" by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky.

Maybe too far? Or a burn victim who picked a good hobby?- king12kong12, on 05/30/2008, -0/+1or a mask?
- greytfriend, on 05/30/2008, -0/+1Sure makes renaissance fairs and civil war reenactments seem more lame.Or did I mean more sane. Either/or.
- zdiddy85, on 05/30/2008, -0/+1On a side note, if I was ever stricken with a terminal illness, I would pack up and move to Prypiat just to journalize the area. How close could you get to the reactor before you would feel immediate effects? (sorry, my knowledge on nuclear radiation is sparse)
- zyklon, on 05/30/2008, -0/+2Well, they've put a cover on the reactor itself. The real danger is in the surrounding area where the fallout affected. Namely, Pripyat River and part of northern Pripyat.
- koleka, on 05/30/2008, -0/+0I know in Australia there is a community that re-enact famous ww1 and ww2 battles, and they have specific legal agreements that allow them to use replica fire arms for only this purpose. Perhaps this is something similar and they have gone one step further and re enacted a stalker scene ?
- smitlet, on 05/30/2008, -2/+0Radiation FTW
- ChinezePanda, on 05/30/2008, -4/+7Thats a whole lotta ***** right there my friends.
Wheres the town?
All I see is field after open field which looks to be somewhere either in New England...
Or somewhere down south after a rainy muggy day.
These photos are *****.
PROOF: http://www.panoramio.com/photos/original/4931266.j ...
Not to mention the reactor itself IS NOT IN SOME REMOTE FIELD. nor is it that small... seriously guys.. come on.
Isn't the entire area around the reactor a quarantine zone?
Not to mention THERE IS NEW CONSTRUCTION ON THE DOME that is encasing the entire power plant underway.... right now.- Hyperion1144, on 05/30/2008, -0/+2People still live in the quarantine zone, mostly old people who refuse to leave. They eat irradiated vegetables from their gardens they have, growing stuff in radioactive soil... Time magazine did a story on them. Wild stuff, but some people are still in the area.
But yeah, without more explanation, these photos are probably fake... I want more proof. Wasn't the Chernobyl reactor near a city??? I've seen photos from inside the zone, its an abandoned shell of city that looks like the movie Silent Hill. The real Chernobyl photos I've seen look a lot spookier and scarier than this.- databeast, on 05/30/2008, -0/+1yes, The city of Prypiat, built for the reactor workers.
- flibuste, on 05/30/2008, -3/+1http://englishrussia.com/?p=1945
I see a crane and a Chernobyl reactor site.
Those guys did a good job at faking the whole thing.
Your picture however is meaningless.

- Rodalli, on 05/30/2008, -1/+1If Chernobyl is so god-damned dangerous, why do I see a new story every couple of months about some reporter/group of teenagers/scientist ***** around up there?
