englishrussia.com — These guys play popular S.T.A.L.K.E.R. video game for real. They on purpose go to the Chernobyl area of the nuclear disaster explosion site dress in Stalker themed cloths and play, even involving armored vehicles and real guns.

      And from what I've read on the stalkerfiles.com forums, is that they are no where near the reactors, due to high military presence and tour groups.

      And those aren't real guns, dammit. It's airsoft!

Radiation isn't really spread evenly over the area so some areas are safer then others and for the most part only the Chernobyl power station itself is horrible unsafe. Unless you are in there everyday, you probably aren't going to receive a high enough dose to kill you or cause any damage.

      The reactor is not on a hill, there should be numerous abandoned vehicles, and that area is paved.

  • Codename46, on 05/29/2008, -19/+33They can't be civilians. Civilian ownership of real firearms is essentially outlawed in Russia. Assuming the picture of the machine gun belt was real, they would HAVE to be military to have that kind of weaponry.

    They can't be real military either. From the pics it looks like they were just screwing around, and I don't think the Russian military has their troops wearing S.T.A.L.K.E.R buttons on their uniforms. Speaking of which, their uniforms are all different and not standardized.

    Only possibility is fake pics, and the guns are airsoft, not real guns. Buried of inaccuracy.

        This bunch probably bought the APC for fun.
      • KingFog, on 06/28/2008, -0/+0Look back at the ammo belt, under it are two silver pipes. Those are BB pellet feeds. Also, the photo of pellets plus bullet cases in the original set is a big clue. These guys are rich civvys with enough money to buy good airsoft guns

        And the APCs? Those are old... I think 1960's time... You can buy those now. A number of collectors own them. (You did know that there are civilians who own tanks, APCs and Armoured Cars right?)

The problem is that I'm separated from it by 5,000 miles and an ocean. I'm a poor freelance photographer - I'd need to scrape up a lot of money to get over there.

        I'll get there eventually, I'm just saying it'd be awesome.

  • IndigoMoss, on 05/30/2008, -0/+5That's pretty awesome. Definitively one of the best games of 07', especially after to put some awesome mods into it. I haven't been as scared playing a video as I had when the first invisible mutant jumped out at me in the tunnels. I totally forgot what it's name was though. One thing to make it a lot more atmospheric and scary is to add the mod that makes the weather and stuff more realistic. You can barely see anything at night and it gets intense.

  • Chrispyc1211, on 05/30/2008, -1/+8What makes them think the guns are real? They're airsoft guns. All the wood on the various guns' stocks, hand guards, etc. are made of fake wood, and one picture even shows the BBs on the ground next to old 7.62mm rounds.
    I mean, they're great pics, but whoever was writing this up had no idea what the pictures were of.

    If they did use real guns, i don't see how it could be any fun. Could have at least used airsoft or paint ball guns.

    • zyklon, on 05/30/2008, -0/+2Well, they've put a cover on the reactor itself. The real danger is in the surrounding area where the fallout affected. Namely, Pripyat River and part of northern Pripyat.

Perhaps this is something similar and they have gone one step further and re enacted a stalker scene ?

    Not to mention the reactor itself IS NOT IN SOME REMOTE FIELD. nor is it that small... seriously guys.. come on.


    Isn't the entire area around the reactor a quarantine zone?

    Not to mention THERE IS NEW CONSTRUCTION ON THE DOME that is encasing the entire power plant underway.... right now.

They eat irradiated vegetables from their gardens they have, growing stuff in radioactive soil... Time magazine did a story on them. Wild stuff, but some people are still in the area.

      But yeah, without more explanation, these photos are probably fake... I want more proof. Wasn't the Chernobyl reactor near a city??? I've seen photos from inside the zone, its an abandoned shell of city that looks like the movie Silent Hill. The real Chernobyl photos I've seen look a lot spookier and scarier than this.
