- dunezone, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27"They shipped what they said they would to meet the American market. Unless you're in Japan you shouldn't care about this."
It shows they cant meet certain goals in certain situations, and to some people, investors, distributors, product owners, etc, it shows what we call uncertainty in a company. - Nocturnal, on 10/12/2007, -18/+42I'm being honest when I say this, I am not buying a PS3. My mom recently asked me if it was a good idea to buy one for my little brother since it was a little easier to get than the Wii. I told her NO, at all costs, save the money you're going to spend and buy him a Wii when you can find one and or get an XBox360. I am advising anyone who will listen to stay away from the PS3. I am not a fanboy of any console but I know what is worth money and isn't. The PS3 unfortunately, isn't.
- kylesellers, on 10/12/2007, -5/+25Wow, does anyone else just love watching Sony make fools of themselves? It's like watching Michael Richards go crazy, Britney Spears forget underwear, Rosie fake a Chinese accent and that Fat chick falling off the dirt bike all at once!
- staticneuron, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22They said 4 mill, then 2 mill then 1 mill.

Funny how people were all over Sony's shrinking shipments but missed the last one. - enforcerpsu, on 10/12/2007, -9/+29Whats even funnier is the fact that they didn't meet their launch goals, and PS3s are now sitting on the shelves.
So they shipped less, and sold even less than that. Wow. - Crass22, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20The Truth finally just came out now? I thought we had all been aware of this for atleast a month.
- Desolite, on 10/12/2007, -8/+21my cousin's girlfriend's mother's friend's son said the same thing!
- slatez, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13"I'd say they made a good decision to ship less considering people aren't buying"
lol at the thought sony "decided" to ship less. - Alphateam, on 10/12/2007, -34/+45Do they just continue their lies and think we will believe them?
They were supposed to ship 2 million by years and and they got less than 1 million. Less than 50% of what they said. That is not even close. If they shipped say 90%...I'd be like ok...that was close.
So now they say 6 million before the end of March. So they shipped 1 million in 1.5 months, and now they can ship 5.5 million in 2.5 months.....
I'll believe it when I see it. If they do I hope Best Buy has enough storage space to hold all the unsold PS3's. - Champzilla, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Wow, you're dumb twice. You left a lame comment, and replied to it!
- mclumber1, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11"it's a less expensive Blu-Ray DVD player, get your facts right. Can you point to Blu-Ray player out today that sells for less?"
Can you point to a reason why people should invest $1000 (or $599 for that matter) on a blu-ray player, $25 on each blu-ray disc, and a $2000 1080p television, when they are perfectly content with their $50 dvd player, $15 dvds, and $500 Television? - craterburnsu, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10OK, lets pause for a second. What do you get from the statement, Sony's 2 million Shipped TARGET. The obvious sentence modifier has been Capsed. A TARGET is something to shoot for, that is not a solid, "WE WILL DO EXACTLY THAT AND NO LESS." statement.
- sfacets, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9*insert Nelson laugh here*
- Mikey9oo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Yea, does it even matter? I was at the Best Buy on La Brea in Los Angeles last night and they had plenty of 60gb ps3 systems available. Who cares if they missed their target? A lot of people are happy with the wii60 (myself included).
Microsoft really had the right idea releasing the 360 last year. They got a major leg up, and the Wii countered the ps3 by being cheaper, and those (like myself) who already have a 360 countered their craving for a new system with the wii.
The wii60 beats the ps3, any day, for the same price. (almost) - brianb722, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I don't know where you people shop but I've only seen ONE PS3 in stock ever at a Target this weekend. Never seen them at any Best Buy or CC around here. Only seen Wii's in stock once (also at a Target), they had like 12 because they had just gotten their shipment in but they were gone within the hour I spent in the store (but I got mine!)
- crgnetworks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5It's a trap!
- HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I'm sorry, the truth comes out?
The haters last week said there was no way Sony shipped 1.5M. Now they say "the truth is out" as if some revelation vindicated them?
The hate gets incredibly boring. - Toad008, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5"So I'm no one fans boy. Just stating what is grossly obvious."
Maybe that's why your getting dug down? and not "Dug down b/c I speak the truth."
When it's obvious, and has been mentioned in other comments earlier, people generally don't want to keep reading it. Thus get more and more likely to dig you down.
That's also assuming the masses act in any predictable means, which is definitely not always true.
Plus I think your "truth" might have just a touch of hyperbole in it. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6SWEET ANOTHER CHANCE TO BASH THE PS3
- TheXeno, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7"Can you point to a reason why people should invest $1000 (or $599 for that matter) on a blu-ray player, $25 on each blu-ray disc, and a $2000 1080p television, when they are perfectly content with their $50 dvd player, $15 dvds, and $500 Television?"
Personal preference? - therethere76, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4People so easily forget, without the competition from Sony (Think back to the original Playstation) there wouldn't have ever been an Xbox or Xbox 360. Microsoft only jumped in the mix because Sony and Nintendo were making all the cash. Competition creates better games and more powerful game systems. If there were still only Nintendo and Sega or even just Nintendo making games and consoles then I think that gaming would be no where's near as big as it has become because of this competition.
And as far as them only selling 500K, big deal. Why would I want to buy one if there are only a handful of games out for it? I am going to wait for some more first party games before buying one. I'm sure I'm not alone. - tooasianguys, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4yeah missing your shipping mark by half a mil and still having units just sitting on store shelves is def a bad sign.
- knodi, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9It doens't really matter because not one is buying them now. Every store has them in stock and they are not moving at all.
- vhold, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4"1.5 million PS3s shipped. 1.4 million still on store shelves!"
"LOL! Dug down b/c I speak the truth."
"What am I overstating? What am I exagerrating?"
"You don't encounter sarcasm too much, do you?"
So, you're saying you were being sarcastic when you said you were telling the truth and not exaggerating. That makes sense. - daridave, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I just stopped carring about it a week after launch.
I'll say it again: Sorry SONY, I took the red pill a long time ago. - datsclark, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4The busiest Wal-Mart in the world is in Southaven, Mississippi.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wal-Mart - Avalontor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5it's a less expensive Blu-Ray DVD player, get your facts right. Can you point to Blu-Ray player out today that sells for less?
- iposthuman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3360's are in stacks of 100's in every major electronics store I've seen since before chrismas. Microsoft missed their numbers too. Anyone wanna talk about them or is it bashing Sony de rigeur right now?
Seriously ya.. sony is ***** up, and they've got about 5 years to make it right. M$ had a far less than stellar launch with the 360 and they've managed to make that dream come true over the last 14 months.
So probably the 360 isn't getting enough positive press, the wii is maybe getting balanced press and the ps3 is getting the dogs breakfast. That balance probably has more to do with what readers want to read than actual reality in most cases.
Either way IMO the only thing worse than fan boys are the people who sit around and trash talk whatever system/console/electronic thing cause they have some kinda axe to grind. I've seen the digg gaming channel go from constructive to just a free for all bash sony fest in the last 2 months. It's really gotten tired. Thats comments and posts.
Just asking for a little more perspective and perhaps something new to digg. - BigCalhoun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You're lying. That just can't be. Why, if you look around here, the PS3 is the best thing since a nail clipper. I must insist you recheck your records. Surely, there must be an error in the data.
- kylesellers, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Nooo! Sony never blows their promises!
- achoi, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5"Can you point to a reason why people should invest $1000 (or $599 for that matter) on a blu-ray player, $25 on each blu-ray disc, and a $2000 1080p television, when they are perfectly content with their $50 dvd player, $15 dvds, and $500 Television?"
Are you trying to dispute the value of new technology against old technology? How about everybody start comparing their $299 ipod that can only hold a few thousand songs vs. a $30 radio that holds UNLIMITED songs...
The above is a fallacious arguement. Newsflash: new technology is expensive, and people are willing to pay for nice things. But since you wanted a reason, here's one: how about.. uh... picture quality? If you can't tell the difference of picture quality between an old television unit and a 1080p unit, I'll be happy to take that 1080p unit from you and give you my old CRT tv.
This discussion is about is intelligent as comparing your PS2 to your VHS player. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Sony PlayStation 3 IN STOCK with FREE SHIPPING from circuitcity.com at suggested retail price
- vhold, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"1.5 million PS3s shipped. 1.4 million still on store shelves!"
So you're claiming only 100,000 sold? It sold nearly 200,000 on launch day alone. - BigCalhoun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Actually, most of those folks (including myself) also dugg another article that appeared about 2 weeks ago or so. They were holiday sales numbers for the Wii and the PS3 and it appeared that the PS3 outsold the Wii. However, when you factored in the release dates and the the dates used to produce the data, it was blatantly obvious that the original data was skewed in favor of Sony.
Again, like I said earlier...this isn't something *I* am making up, this is what has been written about. It's not my data but I look like the arsehole for pointing out the bad news. Go figure. - thund3rstruck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@therethere76
That is a good point indeed. Sony does deserve credit for making gaming as popular as it is today and we should all be cheering for the next gen contenders to do well so competition remains stiff and thus we all get better products. It should also be pointed out that these recent acts of hate are the consumer expressing their disgust with the cost of the product. Hopefully Sony will realize this and drop the price by a couple of hundred dollars. That in itself would guarantee success. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2People hate on sony because they've been getting more and more arrogent and anti consumer for years now. They put rootkits on CDs, announce that everyone will take a second job to pay $600 for a ps3 even if it has no games, the quality of their electronics and general have been going down, and they hold the title of the most notoriously bad customer service for any online game.
- alx242, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't agree about the online comment...but whatever
- piper999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It looks like popfrogs is stalking me on this and other threads.
Ooooh frightening!
@popfrogs - you can contribute to this site like everyone else and if you actually tried to do so your member rank wouldn't be so low, you would have more people in your friends list and one day you might get to experience having one of your stories on the frontpage (and the whackjobs like you coming out of the woodwork to criticize but that comes with the territory). - carlvjack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What I find so ironic from Digg is that 7 years ago this crowd would have been all "F Microsoft" yet this crowd cheers the XBox and Nintendo like those companies personally care about you.
All I hear is "Rootkits" something which I bet if you did a survey in every major city you would maybe find 1 out a thousand people who have even heard of that CD protection fiasco. Probably most of us switched to the PS1 after the Super Nintendo and 64 if even some of us had a 64. - staticneuron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1
Did "Rootkits" affect you personally?
"realtime graphics" that werent like the bullshot concept videos of madden on the 360 or that raven demo?
missed release dates obviously because of redesign and manufacturing
"lies about the ports and number of controllers, " Work in progress shots means...... well if you knew you wouldn't be complaining would you? By the way was it really needed to have more hdmi, usb and ethernet ports? I don't think so.
"Target shipments lowered? ohhh the horror.
overpriced, only has 1 decent game, crappy on line service, and arrogant comments such as "the next gen doesnt start until we say it does", "most people, I think, dont know what a rootkit is so why should they care" and the classic "people will work two jobs to afford a Playstation 3 even if there are no games games for it"
classic case of Sony hate for superficial unimportant reasons. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I love you.
- strictnein, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"as opposed to everyone else who erroneously says "could care less""
I know no one who uses that phrase incorrectly. Perhaps you should start hanging around with people who have graduated the 6th grade? - niceyuk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1OK, heres a few reasons:
Rootkits, "realtime graphics" that werent, missed release dates, lies about the ports and number of controllers, E3 2006, lies about release numbers, more missed release dates, massively overhyped compared to Xbox360, overpriced, only has 1 decent game, crappy on line service, and arrogant comments such as "the next gen doesnt start until we say it does", "most people, I think, dont know what a rootkit is so why should they care" and the classic "people will work two jobs to afford a Playstation 3 even if there are no games games for it" - DYMongoose, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@datsclark
Thanks, I guess it does still hold the title. I don't know why I got dugg down so much for that comment... I live in Southaven (suburb of Memphis, TN) - check my profile, and I saw them sitting behind the glass myself the next day after I posted that... went again today and they were still there. - skuzmak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i wonder how many sold purely at blur-ay players? seems like the game selection is lacking
- rohcky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow, shipped less than expected and still can't sell out. Sony better hope those killer apps go gold soon.
- andrewgreene, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3All of this makes me remember the commercial that Sony was running prior to the PS2 launch where they were advertising the PS9 or whatever it was. It's going to take more than a couple of console sellers to get these things off the shelves at this price. I won't say that I'll never buy a PS3, but as a happy owner of a Wii and a PS2, I'm doing fine in my standard definition world. And when I do make the jump to HD (hopefully sooner rather than later), I'll be more inclined to get an Xbox360 purely on the price point.
- freetyme, on 10/12/2007, -9/+10I guess that puts a hole in the whole "PS3's-are-sitting-around-at-stores-because-they-have-put-so-much-supply-out" (or something to that effect) theory
- berserkiest, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1it really doesn't matter if they ship that much by March if they can't sell them. At first I didn't believe the "PS3 sitting on shelves" rumors, but now that ever single store in my area has at least 2 when they still get lines every time a new Wii shipment comes in I'm beginning to think all the people that are going to buy PS3s for this price have already.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3why everyone gotta be hate'n on Sony... so much ***** is said about sony that can easily be said about microsoft as well.. but whats really gonna piss everyone off is that im not going to list them cause i dont want to waste the time.
