- kalleanka, on 10/12/2007, -1/+46The worst thing with Mine Sweeper is when you have played for a long time and cleaned almost the entire board, and then you come to a situation where you have to guess (not possible to know for sure if a certain block is mine or not). That really sucks to die after something like that.
- gregm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+25You say that, but I can seriously say that I have lost with that strategy before.
- smackhero, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19@Alpha: some people like to challenge themselves mentally.
- nfollmer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17ahhhh, you can do better than that! set it on 1 mine and the max size, you can beat it in 1 click!
- breezy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16xyzzy shift+enter
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12@Alpha don't hate, just appreciate.
If nothing else, chicks digg it. - evilpig, on 10/28/2007, -2/+10Anyone notice he was using "Minesweeper Clone 2006"? Why would someone make minesweeper when it is on every ***** Windows computer out there? I call hax.
- vizerei, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9That's exactly what I was thinking it looked like. The animations for clearing looks way sped up, the mouse movements look sped up, the clock looks suspicious with the way it was bumping up(fraps records plenty fast enough to have a smooth clock, as does most other screencap software).
Looks a bit fake to me. Who could check the validity? You don't hear about the ZOMG HUGE MINESWEEPER TOURNAMENT FOR LOADS OF MONEY! - timmay, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10me either
- ThinkBox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7You type slow
- jggr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7No you didn't. The minimum number of mines is 10. So, you're both liars. (liar, liar pants on fire... :P)
Lies make baby Jesus cry, ya know.
/I always thought I was good at minesweeper until I saw these guys. My personal best 4-25-140. Or there abouts... - gconeen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5the timer seems to jump every once in awhile, but that may be because his screen cap software isn't recording at a high framerate.
- McGrude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Apparently :
"Regular minesweeper is too easy to cheat on, so the minesweeper community only accepts records on minesweeper clone or arbiter." - Dayz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7it seems speeded up and the clock is from another game
- noodlehed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Of course it is fake! Look at the game's title bar -- it's obvious, Dion Tiu is a CLONE! We all know clones are faster than us normal humans.
- astyler, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5it is sped up, the animations are too short on the area expansion as well as button depression.
is it even the packaged minesweeper? - matrixbandit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yea that and the fact that the windows version of minesweeper doesn't generate the field until after the first click. It does this to guarantee that the first click doesn't land on a mine. Try this yourself, setup a custom board, 9x9 with 64 mines.(9x9=81 spaces) So more than half of the spaces are mines. Notice how you can never hit a mine with the first click. The versions of minesweeper for linux don't seem to have this feature, at least that I have seen.
- Chort, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Heh, minesweeper is so much easier under Vista, there's an option to reset the game with the mines in the same places, so if you memorize that one pattern, it could be done in less time.
- ryguy314, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7I'll never understand how that game works. At all.
- ApplCmptrDood, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I can't even get 15 in the time it took him to do that. Crazy...
- Inverno, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2OMG HAX! I'm really jealous. I think my personal record is 999+
- Mirag3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Warning: Math following
If I remember correctly, isn't minesweeper a subsection of the n vs. np problem, one of the millenium problems? If that's so I'd like to know how the hell he's doing this so quickly. - smackhero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2grok is from robert heinlein's Stranger in a Strange Land. it's not exactly new or "hip".
- jggr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3It ain't for everyone. If you have a penchant for patterns, then it's a good game, but if not, then it's just hard.
Interesting story though.. Minesweeper got me laid once. Seriously. I was playing and this girl was watching me, and couldn't believe I was that good at the game... I swear I've never seen a girl get turned on by me playing Minesweeper. Weird broad, that one. Anyway, threadjack, but thought I'd share. ;)
/Just wanted to say thanks for the new word. 'Grok: (slang) To understand profoundly through intuition or empathy.'
//Don't know if it's been around for a while, but then I'm old and very un-hip.
///I used to be with it, then they changed what 'it' was. - SchuBomb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1jggr: here's a quote from the minesweeper champion from 2000 until 2004: Lasse Jensen
"Girls hate computer geeks, but they love minesweeper fingers" - Lanyjé
and yeah - I know what you mean!! - Slacker101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1NE one else notice its a mine sweeper Clone. This could very well be rigged.
- 47knight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It looked like that was being played in fast motion. And also if you look at the title bar, it says Mine Sweeper CLONE, what if...
- Pulp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I am puzzled by how the pointer goes under the bottom border of the Minesweeper playing area. Actually, I'm not really puzzled since this is so clearly a fake.
- unlimitedorb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I pull out my 1337 h4x, PH33R M3...
Ch33ts LMFAO - CapeKid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The numbers represent the amount of mines in squares adjacent to the box you clicked. Right clicking is the way to "flag" the ones you think might be bombs, just for your own reference.
Don't left-click click on bombs. Clear the board to win. - johnnycornholer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oh my god! That is hilarious.
Maybe I'm just tired... - blizzok, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@ringo380
RULES ONE AND TWO! - Urusai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Easy map...the corners are all clear except the lower right that has a 1 on it.
- elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The inverse of his time in years?
Let me try this math:
His time is 38 seconds
The inverse is 1/38 seconds
That, in years is 0.000000000833914859 years
So.. this guy will be a virgin for .000000000833914859 years?
That's pretty impressive. - elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Or you can just change the scores directly:
Hkey_current_usersoftwaremicrosoftwinmine
From there, it's really easy to simply change name1 and time1 to "Elnerdo" and "1". - smackhero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1(time in years)^(-1) = [38 / (60 * 60 * 24 *365)]^(-1) = 1.204972...e6 years
- davidave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0interesting...if you take the inverse of his time in years...you get the amount of time this guy will remain a virgin
- thecyko1, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Ok, for those of you who don't know much about the minesweeper game, the goal of the game is to clear all the squares without clicking on a mine. To do this, you are given clues, each number you see on the board tells you how many mines that specific square is touching. Normally, when playing this game, you figure out which squares have bombs and which ones don't through logic and deduction. That isn't the case in this video. This guy is using a little known trick in the game, where when you hold down both mouse buttons, it will test all squares around the mouse. If one of those squares has a mine, it will not open any of the squares, if there are no bombs in any of the squares, it will automatically open those squares. This makes the game so simple that a retarded monkey could beat it in 11 seconds. Try it for yourself and you'll see how easy the game is when you do it that way.
Long story short, the guy doesn't know how to play and is just clicking around like an idiot. - SchuBomb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1You are completely wrong. The left+right click technique doesn't work that way at all. It works by, say if you have a square with a 3, you flag those 3 indicated mines and if you left+right click on that 3 square, all non-mines around the 3 will be cleared. You still have to deduce everything as usual.
I would really like to see you do this in 11 seconds. Really. - daleeburg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1totally agreed. But you can use the center mouse button also (instead of the left-right combo)
This is very obvious when you see that some times 3 or more squares get pushed down at the same time and he never mouses over any of them. - ringo380, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This is completely off topic, but I have to laugh at the fact that the original comment is still a +1, while "me either" got +4.
Maybe I'm just missing some obscure inside 4chan joke or something. - loddie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I got really into minesweeper when I was 12-13, and my dad and I would go back and forth trying to beat each other's records. I think my personal best on expert was around 180 seconds.
- duster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1That's not a "little known trick". It's part of the game. It doesn't cheat for you, it only clears the cells that you've determined aren't mines. That is...if you click both buttons on an open "3" and you have 3 mine flags placed adjacently, it will clear the rest of the adjacent cells. If you frigged up and flagged an adjacent cell that wasn't a mine, then it will clear the mine and you lose.
- SchuBomb, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Maybe your viewing experience has been wrecked by having a crap computer, or maybe you're high. The timer is fine.
- SchuBomb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0It is not sped up. I submitted this video. I have seen the man get a 43 when I went to Sydney.
astyler - the "animations" aren't animations, they only last so long as you hold the mouse button down. As someone said, this is not the packaged minesweeper, because it is too easy to cheat on and no longer accepted for records.
vizerei - there are tournaments - http://ms.dotti.at/ - fiver22, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1A computer user since the TI-994a days: I *STILL* don't really grok Minesweeper: sad, I know...but at least I'm honest.
- DuckFish, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Technically not MineSweeper (Mines), but...
http://img50.imageshack.us/img50/2158/minescq2.png - Darmichar, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1There used to be a 'hack' you could do that would make one pixel on your monitor light up white when you moused over the squares hiding bombs.
Not sure if it can still be done, but knowing you used to be able to makes me suspect of his 'ability'.
[edit]breezy beat me to it, and it is the reverse of what I remembered.[/edit] - emorphien, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Best I did that one in was 45 seconds I think. I could do the easy one in 7 seconds (couldn't click any faster) and the middle one was maybe 15 or 20. That was years ago though.
