- wezults, on 08/11/2008, -1/+46He'll be fine as long as he stays away from Heroin Hero.
- AudiaGirl, on 08/10/2008, -7/+51Cool, but I'd rather be the top guitar player in the world.
- ScionX, on 08/10/2008, -1/+38“When a new person will come around,” Chris said, “my friends will be like, ‘Hey, did you know this is the No. 1 kid in the world at Guitar Hero?’ And I’m like —— ” He hid his head in his hands. “That’s not what I want to first tell people when I meet them.”
That's not something I'd EVER want to tell anyone. - inactive, on 08/11/2008, -1/+34Move to Korea. Become a god.
- sfhock, on 08/12/2008, -2/+27Holy crap, lighten up people!! The article was a "puff piece" or "human interest" story for chrissakes. Also, why is it that everyone is so freaking judgemental about people who play guitar hero?? It's a GAME!!! Why should people have to "play a real guitar" to be legitimate? Should we take all of our video game experiences and do them in real life instead? Awww.. screw it.. instead of playing Grand Theft Auto IV (or whatever number they're up to now) on the old XBOX, I think I'll just go out and kill some effing hookers and jack a couple cars... Quit Bashing Video Game Players!!!
*steps down off of soap box* :-) - ThatSwedishGuy, on 08/10/2008, -11/+34He's living the dream of every Guitar Hero player out there.. But he will never become a true rockstar. Either that or he's wasted pretty much all of his free time becoming the no 1 Guitar Hero player in the world.
- byronm, on 08/12/2008, -1/+23Is it really about being a real rockstar? For me its about fun.. cheap fun. It easy and challenging to play the game and the game is simply downright fun. So fun its addictive like any other game.
If people can spend thousands of hours in their favorite RTS does that mean they want to be a general? If people spend thousands of hours in WoW does that mean they're secretly training to become a warrior, mage or hunter? - chaos7, on 08/12/2008, -0/+17you're unhappy with your own job
- SmellyGeekBoy, on 08/12/2008, -0/+16I play real guitar and I'm currently working my way through GHIII on Expert. Ain't no shame in that - it's all about the fun.
- inactive, on 08/10/2008, -4/+20Impressive, but I still think this guy I know named Billy that owns a restaurant near my house could beat him if he tried.
- cello, on 08/12/2008, -1/+16Cool, but you're neither.
(just sayin') - AndySomnifac, on 08/12/2008, -5/+18Next time you play Grand Theft Auto, think "hey, why am I doing this in a video game? I should just go shoot someone." No? Why not just do the real thing? Exactly.
It's a game. It's an escape. It's entertainment. Nothing more. - Feep, on 08/12/2008, -0/+12Actually, prick, he HAS FC'ed Jordan. http://www.scorehero.com/rankings.php?group=2&game ...
Also, in real life, he's picking up endorsements and the fame of a C-list celebrity. If you're not impressed, fine, but don't make fun of a guy just because he's good at something. - caresieb, on 08/12/2008, -0/+11This kid is from my home state of Minnesota, a local story on him also told that he is a straight A student, and an all around good kid, I think those are more important accomplishments, but it still kicks ass how good he is at the game. I hear he can play dragonforce with his eyes closed
- FeloniusMonkey, on 08/12/2008, -2/+13I'd rather be Ron Jeremy.
- dubey, on 08/12/2008, -1/+11The dreaded double facepalm
- angelof, on 08/12/2008, -1/+11I know this guy Steve, who likes to play in his garage, that could definitely beat Billy.
- angelof, on 08/12/2008, -0/+9I play guitar, and the game is still a lot of fun. What's frustrating is knowing that you can play a certain song on a real guitar, but you make a fool of yourself playing the virtual version.
- shutupdangit, on 08/12/2008, -1/+10It's the same guy.
- shitdigga, on 08/12/2008, -1/+9I played guitar for a long time in a 'real band' in some of the best rock haunts in the southern hemisphere. Nowadays, I get in 30 minutes of guitar hero for my 3 year old daughter every night...even trained her to yell "YOU ROCK!". So playing guitar hero doesn't make you gay, a virgin, or someone who can't actually play guitar....but I can't escape that feeling of complete douchebaggery when I shred the plastic axe.
- TrueXtremeIcon, on 08/12/2008, -0/+7@1timeuser:
You're wasting resources by posting on Digg right now. Shouldn't you be out curing cancer? - SuminderJi, on 08/12/2008, -0/+7He runs track and plays soccer.
What do you do Mr. High and Mighty. - MrFettuccine, on 08/11/2008, -1/+8So far, it looks like he doesn't need to get a real job since he is being sponsored from this company. And if Guitar Heroes keep getting pumped out, he will still be with it. So who knows, maybe his job will be Guitar Hero. I wonder how much money he is making. He even gets paid to go to these gaming events around the world.
- nicko68, on 08/12/2008, -0/+7You really think every 2-bit guitar player is contributing something back to the world with their music?
- nicko68, on 08/12/2008, -0/+7Who are you to judge what people should be spending their free time on, as long as it's not hurting anyone?
- sgtpppr, on 08/12/2008, -0/+7He's in high school...
- las3rjock, on 08/12/2008, -1/+7How is playing guitar useful in any meaningful way? Why does 100% of one's time need to be spent doing useful things?
- angelof, on 08/12/2008, -1/+7So you guys have something in common then... j/k.
- deweyhewson, on 08/12/2008, -0/+5To all the whiners who come on here to bitch about "playing a real guitar", you really just sound like douches. I play guitar, and piano, a bunch of other instruments, and have been recording music for nearly a decade.
I play Guitar Hero because - *gasp!* - it's fun! The only similarity the game even has to a real guitar is the shape of the controller. In fact, the first time I played it I was fumbling around for the buttons, despite having played a real guitar for nearly 15 years.
Believe it not, many people do things because they are fun. Sometimes it's fun to imagine yourself as Slash or Hendrix, the same as pretending you were Batman as a kid, or playing a pick-up game of basketball and saying, "I'm Jordan, you're Kobe."
So props to this kid for being so talented at it, and the rest of you, please shut up. If you really must bitch about something, at least find something worth bitching about. - bearcat8543, on 08/12/2008, -1/+6because playing a real guitar is 10X harder. its not just mashing 5 buttons down in a predetermined sequence. you actually have to understand music, not just be able to see a bunch of colored buttons flying at you at a million miles an hour. that being said, both are equally as fun. playing real guitar is more rewarding, guitar hero is fun makin an ass of yourself in front of friends.
- fahrvergnuugen, on 08/12/2008, -0/+5"I'm ten times richer than my big brother Bob
And he, he's got a haircut he's got a real job" - seraph741, on 08/12/2008, -0/+5i agree, fun and interesting article, good for him. relax people.
- yelsraek, on 08/12/2008, -0/+4It's closer than you'd think... if you look at the GH2 top scores, Chris has 42 to Lo7's 9, most of which Chris took from Lo7 while on a break from trying to FC TTFaF.
They're both excellent, though. I could never get that good at these games, though not for a lack of trying. I can pass every song on Expert, but not with anywhere near the proficiency that these folks do.
Also, just from a gamer's perspective, I'm not interested in learning the guitar. I like playing a plastic guitar controller. I'm good at video games, and I enjoy playing them. I understand there's no cross-over ability, and if I did apply the amount of time that I spend playing video games on something else, perhaps I could be doing something that some would consider "productive".
But I didn't. I spent all that time playing video games... because I like to play video games. Deal with it. - byronm, on 08/12/2008, -2/+6Believe it or not, GH is a pretty social game. In most of his videos you can hear his friends flipping out, he obviously challenges online on Xbox live and for the most part any time i whip out the game i've got a case of beer and a few friends over.
No, i can't be TFAF in expert but one day i hope to at least make it through it! - iDiggYa, on 08/12/2008, -0/+4Look 5 posts above this one.
- Nlewis4, on 08/12/2008, -0/+4is this what we have become
- nicko68, on 08/12/2008, -0/+4It's easy to say who the best Guitar Hero player in the world is since you can base it on score, note streaks, etc.
How do you judge who the best guitar player in the world is? - MurphyWatson, on 08/11/2008, -1/+5Here's one for people that can play the real guitar.
- Acglaphotis, on 08/12/2008, -0/+4For a buck you could be the best bass player. (too obscure?)
- TimeForAnal, on 08/12/2008, -1/+4But Billy has THE HAIR, man
- RainNIU, on 08/12/2008, -0/+3It's called "gamer shame". Most gamers that can actually carry out fulfilling active and social lives have this. I'm a run in races, I rock climb, snowboard, play paintball, lift weights, go to bars/clubs, etc...but I play World of Warcraft. I have gamer shame and I don't wear that fact that I play WoW on my sleeve.
- mille716, on 08/12/2008, -2/+5I AM gladly burying you now. Video games are fun, grandpa.
- rynTAU, on 08/12/2008, -1/+4Stan and Kyle not impressed.
- Iggins, on 08/12/2008, -0/+3'Stan, i want you to meet Thad."
"'Sup?" - SuminderJi, on 08/12/2008, -0/+3Damn it,
Next time someone tells me to play a real guitar - I'll tell them to kill real people instead of playing Halo/CoD4 - Grazfather, on 08/12/2008, -0/+3He FC'd it.
- sandiegodude, on 08/12/2008, -0/+2If this kid starts pulling mad cash from endorsements... the chicks will come.
- las3rjock, on 08/12/2008, -2/+4Why don't you name the best guitar player in the world? Isn't hypocrisy fun?
- jeepgun, on 08/13/2008, -0/+2I think his name says it all, he drinks and he diggs.
